• ps1xml is not digitally signed

  I'm trying to load Exchange Management Shell and it gives me a big 'ol red error that says: Import-Module : There were errors in loading the format data file: Microsoft.PowerShell, , %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\Exchange\RemotePowerShell\DOMAINNAME.format.ps1xml : File skipped because of the following validation exception: File %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\Exchange\RemotePowerShell\DOMAINNAME.format.ps1xml cannot be loaded. The file %APPDATA%\Roaming\Microsoft\ExchangeRemotePowerShell\DOMAINNAME\DOMAINNAME.format.ps1xml is not digitally signed. The script will not execute on the system. Please see "get-help about_signing" for more details... The %APPDATA% is stored on an external server on my network (that I can ping to without problems). I am missing a ton of PS cmdlets too, which I'm presuming are stored in '*.format.ps1xml' Can someone tell me where to start?

• Mount Return Code for CIFS mount

  When I run the following command (as root or via sudo) from a bash script I get an exit status (or return code in mount man page parlance) of 1: mount -v -t cifs //nasbox/volume /tmpdir/ --verbose -o credentials=/root/cifsid & /tmp/mylog It outputs the following into the myflog file: parsing options: rw,credentials=/root/cifsid mount.cifs kernel mount options unc=//nasbox\volume,ip=192.168.1.1,user=root,pass=xxxx,ver=1,rw,credentials=/root/cifsid It mounts the volume fine but returns the exit code (from the mount man page): 1 Incorrect invocation or permissions The standard Linux log files don't contain any error information. Hence, all seems to go well but I get an exit code of 1 instead of 0. Any ideas? The -v and --verbose options are just there for debugging this problem.

• Upgrade to 11.2.0.3 - OCM: ORA-12012 and ORA-29280

  OCM is the Oracle Configuration Manager, a tool to proactively monitor your Oracle environment to provide this information to Oracle Software Support. As OCM is installed by default in many databases but is some sort of independent from the database's version you won't expect any issues during or after a database upgrade But after the upgrade from Oracle 11.1.0.7 to Oracle 11.2.0.3 on Exadata X2-2 one of my customers found the following error in the alert.log every 24 hours: Errors in file /opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/db/trace/db_j001_26027.trc: ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job "ORACLE_OCM"."MGMT_CONFIG_JOB_2_1" ORA-29280: invalid directory path ORA-06512: at "ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_DB_LL_METRICS", line 2436 ORA-06512: at line 1 Why is that happening and how to solve that issue now? OCM is trying to write to a local directory which does not exist. Besides that the OCM version delivered with Oracle Database Patch Set 11.2.0.3 is older than the newest available OCM Collector 10.3.7 - the one which has that issue fixed. So you'll either drop OCM completely if you won't use it: SQL> drop user ORACLE_OCM cascade; or you'll disable the collector jobs: SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.disable('ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_CONFIG_JOB');SQL> exec dbms_scheduler.disable('ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_STATS_CONFIG_JOB'); or you'll have to reconfigure OCM - and please see MOS Note:1453959.1 for a detailed description how to do that - it's basically executing the script ORACLE_HOME/ccr/admin/scripts/installCCRSQL - but there maybe other things to consider especially in a RAC environment. - Mike

• Uploading documents to WSS (Windows Sharepoint Services) using SSIS

  Recently I was tasked to create an SSIS application that will query a database, split the results with certain criteria and create CSV file for every result and upload the file to a Sharepoint Document Library site. I've search the web and compiled the steps I've taken to build the solution. Summary: A) Create a proxy class of WSS Copy.asmx. B) Create a wrapper class for the proxy class and add a mechanism to check if the file is existing and delete method. C) Create an SSIS and call the wrapper class to transfer the files.   A) Creating Proxy Class 1) Go to Visual Studio Command Prompt type wsdl http://[sharepoint site]/_vti_bin/Copy.asmx this will generate the proxy class (Copy.cs) that will be added to the solution. 2) Add Copy.cs to solution and create another constructor for Copy() that will accept additional parameters url, userName, password and domain.   public Copy(string url, string userName, string password, string domain) { this.Url = url; this.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(userName, password, domain); } 3) Add a namespace.     B) Wrapper Class Create a C# new library that references the Proxy Class.         C) Create SSIS SSIS solution is composed of:   1) Execute SQL Task, returns a single column rows containing the criteria. 2) Foreach Loop Container - loops per result from query (SQL Task) and creates a CSV file on a certain folder. 3) Script Task - calls the wrapper class to upload CSV files located on a certain folder to targer WSS Document Library Note: I've created another overload of CopyFiles that accepts a Directory Info instead of file location that loops thru the contents of the folder. • CentOS 5.4 NFS v4 client file permissions differ from original files & NFS Share file contents

  Having a strange problem with NFS share and file permissions on the 1 out of the 2 NFS clients, web1 has file permissions issues but web2 is fine. web1 and web2 are load balanced web servers. So questions are: how do I ensure NFS share file contents retain the same permissions for user/group as the original files on web1 server like they do on web2 server ? how do I reverse what I did on web1, i tried unmount command and said command not found ? Information: I'm using 3 dedicated server setup. All 3 servers CentOS 5.4 64bit based. servers are as follows: web1 - nfs client with file permissions issues web2 - nfs client file permissions are OKAY db1 - nfs share at /nfsroot web2 nfs client was setup by my web host, while web1 was setup by me. I did the following commands on web1 and it worked with updating db1 nfsroot share at /nfsroot/site_css with latest files on web1 but the file permissions don't stick even if i use tar with -p command to perserve file permissions ? cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zcp site_css/ > site_css.tar.gz mount -t nfs4 nfsshareipaddress:/site_css /home/username/public_html/forums/scripts/site_css/ -o rw,soft cd /home/username/public_html/forums/script/ tar -zxf site_css.tar.gz But checking on web1 file permissions no longer username user/group but owned by nobody ? but web2 file permissions correct ? This is only a problem for web1 while web2 is correct ? Looks like numeric ids aren't the same ? • Introducing… SharePress!

  For those that follow me I’ve been away from blogging and twittering for a couple of months. This is the reason. For the last few months I’ve been working with a cross-functional team putting together a new product from the people that run WordPress, the free premiere blogging platform. The result is a new product we call SharePress, a highly extensible blogging and content management platform with the usability of WordPress and the power of SharePoint combined into a single product. SharePress gives you SharePoint sites that are SEO-friendly delivered with a Web 2.0 ease of use, leveraging all of the existing abilities of SharePoint and WordPress that we know today. The Reason Back in December I was approached by the WordPress team about building a new platform that took advantage of the power of SharePoint but the ease of WordPress. I’m no stranger to WordPress and it’s 5 minute no-holds-barred install (I’ve always wanted SharePoint to do this!) and I run my personal blog on WordPress as does my better half, Princess Jenn. There’s always been a pitch by so-called Web 2.0 applications to deliver the power of SharePoint but the ease of [insert product here] over the past year or so. I checked each and every one of them out, but they fell woefully short when it came to SharePoint’s document management, versioning, and customization. They try, but it’s never been up to par in my books. On the flipside, SharePoint has always been tops in collaboration in the Enterprise but it’s painful to develop web parts, UI customization can be tricky, and there’s just no user community for something as simple as themes and designs. The Product Enter SharePress. Is it SharePoint? Is it WordPress? It’s both, and neither. Everything you like about both products are there but this is a bold new product that is positioned to bring SharePoint to the masses while maintaining the fidelity of an Enterprise 2.0 collaboration platform. SharePress delivers on all fronts including: The ability to leverage any WordPress/Joomla/Drupal/DotNetNuke themes and skins inside of SharePoint Run any WordPress/Drupal/Joomla/DotNetNuke/SharePoint plug-in/module/web part/feature works out of the box with SharePress SEO-friendly URLs and pages Permalinks for all content All the features of SharePoint Server 2010 (including InfoPath, Excel, and Access services) included in the price Small deployment footprint. You decide how much to deploy and where. Independent Database Abstraction Layer (iDal) that allows you to deploy to SQL Server 2005/2008, MySQL, and PostgreSQL Portable Rendering Engine Layer (PREL) so you host .NET or PHP on Apache or IIS (version 7 or higher). The install feature is built around WordPress and it’s famous 5-minute install (actually, it’s never taken me more than 1 minute). SharePress installs with two screens after the files are uploaded to your server (which can be done entirely using FTP): After you enter two fields of information click “Install SharePress” and you’ll be done: No mess, no fuss, no complicated dependencies, and no server access required! How simpler could this be? The Technology WordPress plug-ins and themes working with SharePoint? Of course! The answer is IronPython which has now reached a maturity level capable of doing on the fly code language conversions. SharePress is a brand new product not built on top of any previous platform but leverages all the power of each of those applications through a patent pending technique called SharePress Multi-plAtfoRm Technology (SMART). SMART will convert PHP code on the fly into Python (using SWIG as an intermediate processor) which is then compiled to MSIL and then delivered back as an ASP.NET MVC application (output is C# or VB.NET, but you can build your own SMART converter to output a different language). Sound complicated? It is, but it’s all behind the scenes and you don’t have to worry about a thing. This image illustrates the technology stack and process: So users can load up out of the box PHP themes and plug-ins from the WordPress/Joomla/Drupal community into the SMART converter and output MSIL that is used by the SharePress engine and rendered on the fly to the end user. Supported PHP versions are 4.xx and 5.xx with version 6 support to come when it’s released. Similarly you can take any .NET application, DotNetNuke Module, SharePoint Web Part or event handler and feed it into the converter to output the same. Everything is reverse compiled into MSIL so it becomes technology agnostic. No source code access is needed and the SMART converter can handle obfuscated .NET assemblies that were built with .NET 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.5, and 4.0. With this technology you can also with the flip of a switch have the output create PHP pages for you. This allows you to run SharePress on Unix based systems running PHP and MySQL, allowing you to deliver your SharePoint like experience to your users with a $0 infrastructure footprint. Here’s SharePress with the default WordPress post imported then a stock SharePoint collaboration site was imported. The site was then applied with the default Kubrick theme from WordPress. The Features Deploy any of the freely available 100,000 WordPress/Joomla/Drupal themes instantly to your runtime SharePress environment and preview or activate them right from your browser. Built-in Web 2.0 jQuery Enabled End User and Administrator Web Interface. Never have to remote into a server again! Run any SharePoint Web Part or Event Handler directly without modification or access to source code in SharePress. Use any WordPress/Joomla/Drupal plug-in directly in SharePress, no local admin or access to server. Just upload and activate. Upload and Activate any SharePoint Solution Package to any site remotely. No rebuilding. Changes made to sites require no compiling or rebuilding and are published immediately. Password Protected Content. You can give passwords to individual posts, articles, pages, documents, forms, and list items. A powerful polymorphic Captcha system backs the security interface and vendors can easily tie into smart card readers, fingerprint readers, and retina scanners for authorization and identification. OpenID, Windows Live, and Windows Authentication are supported out of the box. Infinitely customizable and extensible. You can leverage plug-ins from the open source community to do practically anything, all configured and uploaded via the browser. Additionally the developer API (available soon) allows you to build extensions in .NET, PHP, and Python with little effort. Easy Importing. We have importers for Blogger, WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, DotNetNuke, and SharePoint so you can populate your site quickly and easily with full metadata modeling and creation. Banner Management. It’s easy to setup banners for your web site complete with impression numbers, special URLs, and more. Menu Manager. The Menu Manager allows you to create as many menus as you want, each one can be associated to specific audiences or roles and then be styled across multiple contexts including the same menu delivered as a fly out, rollover, drop down, and just about any navigation you can think of. Collaborative ShareBook. Our exclusive book feature allows you to setup a “book” and then authorize individuals to contribute content. Permalinks. All content in SharePress has a permanent or “perma link” associated with it so people can link to it freely without fear of broken links. Apache or IIS, Unix / Linux / BSD / Solaris / Windows / Mac OS X support. Deliver SharePress the way *you* want from the platform *you* decide. Database Independence. We know people wanted to run on any database platform so SharePress is built on top of a database abstraction layer that allows you to run on SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL. Other databases can be supported by writing a supporting database script consisting of fourteen function calls. The script can be written in Perl, Python, AWK, PowerShell, Unix Shell scripts, VBA, or simple DOS batch files. The Team SharePress is the work of a lot of people in both the WordPress and SharePoint community. I worked with a lot of SharePoint MVPs to create this new product as we really wanted to deliver the most compatible and feature rich system in a product that we would be proud of. Licensing and Pricing SharePress is still in the final stages for pricing but we’re looking at a price point somewhere between $99-$100 to make it affordable for everyone. We plan to announce final pricing sometime in the next few weeks. There are no additional charges for Enterprise versions or additional features. Everything you see is what’s available and it’s just a matter of lighting up your site with whatever feature you want to enable. The product will not be open source but source code licenses will be available to ISVs who are interested in interfacing with the API at a low level. Cost will be $25,000 USD per developer and gives you complete access to the source code to the SharePress Foundation System and the .NET 4.0 Framework source code. • How can I get penetration depth from Minkowski Portal Refinement / Xenocollide?

  I recently got an implementation of Minkowski Portal Refinement (MPR) successfully detecting collision. Even better, my implementation returns a good estimate (local minimum) direction for the minimum penetration depth. So I took a stab at adjusting the algorithm to return the penetration depth in an arbitrary direction, and was modestly successful - my altered method works splendidly for face-edge collision resolution! What it doesn't currently do, is correctly provide the minimum penetration depth for edge-edge scenarios, such as the case on the right: What I perceive to be happening, is that my current method returns the minimum penetration depth to the nearest vertex - which works fine when the collision is actually occurring on the plane of that vertex, but not when the collision happens along an edge. Is there a way I can alter my method to return the penetration depth to the point of collision, rather than the nearest vertex? • Installing a php extension (xdiff) from pecl on Linux

  I was getting this error on my php script: Fatal error: Call to undefined function xdiff_file_diff() I realised that I didn't had the xdiff extension installed. • How do I create statistics to make ‘small’ objects appear ‘large’ to the Optmizer?

  I recently spoke with a customer who has a development environment that is a tiny fraction of the size of their production environment. His team has been tasked with identifying problem SQL statements in this development environment before new code is released into production. The problem is the objects in the development environment are so small, the execution plans selected in the development environment rarely reflects what actually happens in production. To ensure the development environment accurately reflects production, in the eyes of the Optimizer, the statistics used in the development environment must be the same as the statistics used in production. This can be achieved by exporting the statistics from production and import them into the development environment. Even though the underlying objects are a fraction of the size of production, the Optimizer will see them as the same size and treat them the same way as it would in production. Below are the necessary steps to achieve this in their environment. I am using the SH sample schema as the application schema who's statistics we want to move from production to development. Step 1. Create a staging table, in the production environment, where the statistics can be stored Step 2. Export the statistics for the application schema, from the data dictionary in production, into the staging table Step 3. Create an Oracle directory on the production system where the export of the staging table will reside and grant the SH user the necessary privileges on it. Step 4. Export the staging table from production using data pump export Step 5. Copy the dump file containing the stating table from production to development Step 6. Create an Oracle directory on the development system where the export of the staging table resides and grant the SH user the necessary privileges on it.  Step 7. Import the staging table into the development environment using data pump import Step 8. Import the statistics from the staging table into the dictionary in the development environment. • JoinDomainOrWorkgroup Method FJoinOptions help

  Anyone have experience of using the JoinDomainOrWorkgroup Method of the Win32_ComputerSystem Class? I want to write a powershell script to join a machine to a domain. There may be an existing computer account for the machine, and if so I want to delete it and rejoin to the domain. I've already scripted the "search and destroy" part that will delete the computer account if it exists, but just noticed the FJoinOptions switches on Technet. Trouble is - they're a bit ambiguous. Does 4 (0x4) Deletes an account when a domain exists. mean it will delete the computer account if it already exists on the domain? Also, can you specify the computername you want to join the machine under with this method, or should you do a rename and then join the domain. • IUSR account and SCCM 2007 R3 agent

  I recently started working with SCCM and rolling the agent out with machine having IIS 7.x installed.  I ran into issues where the SCCM agent wouldn't install.  The errors mostly were 0x80004005 and 1603, another key one I found was Return Value 3 in the SCCM setup log.  During the troubleshooting, I found a cool utility called WMI Diag  WMI diag is a VBS script that reads the local WMI store and helps diagnose issue.  Anyone working with SMS or SCCM should keep this handy tool around.  The good thing my particular case WMI was healthy.  The issue turned out I changed the Anonymous Authentication module from using the IUSR account to inherit Application Pool identity.  Once we temporarily switched back to IUSR, installed the agent, then switched the setting back to inherit application pool identity, the SCCM agent installed with no issues. I'm not sure why switching back to the IUSR account solved my issue, if I find out I'll update the post.  More information on IIS 7 builtin accounts http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/140/understanding-built-in-user-and-group-accounts-in-iis-7 Specify an application pool identity  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771170(WS.10).aspx SCCM resources (Config Mgr Setup  / Deployment forums) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrsetup/threads http://www.myitforum.com (the best independent SCCM community resource) Hope this helps. • Session memory – who’s this guy named Max and what’s he doing with my memory?

  SQL Server MVP Jonathan Kehayias (blog) emailed me a question last week when he noticed that the total memory used by the buffers for an event session was larger than the value he specified for the MAX_MEMORY option in the CREATE EVENT SESSION DDL. The answer here seems like an excellent subject for me to kick-off my new “401 – Internals” tag that identifies posts where I pull back the curtains a bit and let you peek into what’s going on inside the extended events engine. In a previous post (Option Trading: Getting the most out of the event session options) I explained that we use a set of buffers to store the event data before  we write the event data to asynchronous targets. The MAX_MEMORY along with the MEMORY_PARTITION_MODE defines how big each buffer will be. Theoretically, that means that I can predict the size of each buffer using the following formula: max memory / # of buffers = buffer size If it was that simple I wouldn’t be writing this post. I’ll take “boundary” for 64K Alex For a number of reasons that are beyond the scope of this blog, we create event buffers in 64K chunks. The result of this is that the buffer size indicated by the formula above is rounded up to the next 64K boundary and that is the size used to create the buffers. If you think visually, this means that the graph of your max_memory option compared to the actual buffer size that results will look like a set of stairs rather than a smooth line. You can see this behavior by looking at the output of dm_xe_sessions, specifically the fields related to the buffer sizes, over a range of different memory inputs: Note: This test was run on a 2 core machine using per_cpu partitioning which results in 5 buffers. You can verify the size boundary by doing the math on the regular_buffer_size field, which is returned in bytes: 196403 – 130867 = 65536 bytes 65536 / 1024 = 64 KB The relationship between the input for max_memory and when the regular_buffer_size is going to jump from one 64K boundary to the next is going to change based on the number of buffers being created. The number of buffers is dependent on the partition mode you choose. If you choose any partition mode other than NONE, the number of buffers will depend on your hardware configuration. (Again, see the earlier post referenced above.) Max approximates True as memory approaches 64K The upshot of this is that the max_memory option does not imply a contract for the maximum memory that will be used for the session buffers (Those of you who read Take it to the Max (and beyond) know that max_memory is really only referring to the event session buffer memory.) but is more of an estimate of total buffer size to the nearest higher multiple of 64K times the number of buffers you have. The maximum delta between your initial max_memory setting and the true total buffer size occurs right after you break through a 64K boundary, for example if you set max_memory = 576 KB (see the green line in the table), your actual buffer size will be closer to 767 KB in a non-partitioned event session. You get “stepped up” for every 191 KB block of initial max_memory which isn’t likely to cause a problem for most machines. Things get more interesting when you consider a partitioned event session on a computer that has a large number of logical CPUs or NUMA nodes. Since each buffer gets “stepped up” when you break a boundary, the delta can get much larger because it’s multiplied by the number of buffers. For example, a machine with 64 logical CPUs will have 160 buffers using per_cpu partitioning or if you have 8 NUMA nodes configured on that machine you would have 24 buffers when using per_node. If you’ve just broken through a 64K boundary and get “stepped up” to the next buffer size you’ll end up with total buffer size approximately 10240 KB and 1536 KB respectively (64K * # of buffers) larger than max_memory value you might think you’re getting. Using per_cpu partitioning on large machine has the most impact because of the large number of buffers created. If the amount of memory being used by your system within these ranges is important to you then this is something worth paying attention to and considering when you configure your event sessions. The DMV dm_xe_sessions is the tool to use to identify the exact buffer size for your sessions. In addition to the regular buffers (read: event session buffers) you’ll also see the details for large buffers if you have configured MAX_EVENT_SIZE. The “buffer steps” for any given hardware configuration should be static within each partition mode so if you want to have a handy reference available when you configure your event sessions you can use the following code to generate a range table similar to the one above that is applicable for your specific machine and chosen partition mode. Is it possible to solve this problem by using Isapi Rewrite (official site) in IIS 6 acting like a reverse proxy? If so, how would I configure the reverse proxy? It has significantly increased family communication, and has become rather indispensable due to this. If I tried to put the system to sleep, it disconnect the network then reconnect it automatically, never goes to sleep. I uninstalled the network manager, then /etc/init.d/networking stop will not help shutdown the system anymore. When I boot into the OS, there were some warning about Unknown job:S20acpid,S20network-interface, S20network-manager . I got some advices to do update-rc.d -f to remove all those script, which I am not certain if it's right thing to do. The messages are gone but the problem remains. When I tried to restart, I used to get this message It doesn't seem to be the modem manager since I later removed it. Once upon a time, the fronze shutting down/restarting can be restarted when I presses Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and it says something like networking is stopped externally. If I log in single user mode, and shutdown or reboot, it show this screen I also tried GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "acpi=force" This is a Ubuntu 12.04 running on Thinkpad T520, not new installation, no such problems occurred before.

• Downloading a file over HTTP the SSIS way

  This post shows you how to download files from a web site whilst really making the most of the SSIS objects that are available. There is no task to do this, so we have to use the Script Task and some simple VB.NET or C# (if you have SQL Server 2008) code. Very often I see suggestions about how to use the .NET class System.Net.WebClient and of course this works, you can code pretty much anything you like in .NET. Here I’d just like to raise the profile of an alternative. This approach uses the HTTP Connection Manager, one of the stock connection managers, so you can use configurations and property expressions in the same way you would for all other connections. Settings like the security details that you would want to make configurable already are, but if you take the .NET route you have to write quite a lot of code to manage those values via package variables. Using the connection manager we get all of that flexibility for free. The screenshot below illustrate some of the options we have. Using the HttpClientConnection class makes for much simpler code as well. I have demonstrated two methods, DownloadFile which just downloads a file to disk, and DownloadData which downloads the file and retains it in memory. In each case we show a message box to note the completion of the download. Is there a way, with a script file or a tool, that can extract this kind of information by checking all the servers and computers in my network?   I am myself surprised that I am writing this post today. I am going to present one of the very known facts of SQL Server SMALLDATETIME datatype. Even though this is a very well-known datatype, many a time, I have seen developers getting confused with precision of the SMALLDATETIME datatype. The precision of the datatype SMALLDATETIME is 1 minute. It discards the seconds by rounding up or rounding down any seconds greater than zero. Let us see the following example DECLARE @varSDate AS SMALLDATETIME SET @varSDate = '1900-01-01 12:12:01' SELECT @varSDate C_SDT SET @varSDate = '1900-01-01 12:12:29' SELECT @varSDate C_SDT SET @varSDate = '1900-01-01 12:12:30' SELECT @varSDate C_SDT SET @varSDate = '1900-01-01 12:12:59' SELECT @varSDate C_SDT Following is the result of the above script and note that any value between 0 (zero) and 59 is converted up or down. The part that confuses the developers is the value of the seconds in the display. I think if it is not maintained or recorded, it should not be displayed as well. You can assess the command line options by specifying the -h option on the command line.
