• IIS not serving up .dat files.

  Hi all, I have a ASP MVC web application that uses a plugin to load images and points for a 3d application. When debugging with the the Visual Studio development server the images and the points are served up great... http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s19/littleniv/Debugging/local.png Second image: same url but iis.png When running in IIS 7 though the .Dat point files do not serve and produce a 404. I've noticed the caching is marked as private in fiddler, but i don't know what this means. Can anyone help? Cheers, Stu

• What's a good icon to represent a legend or a key for a diagram?

  I'm implementing a small web app widget that shows a legend/key for a diagram (or chart/map/graph/whatever), but only during mouseover of the widget. It's basically just going to be a div with a background image. What would be a good icon that communicates "I show the legend" or "I am the legend" to the unfamiliar users? I'm looking for something in the 10x10 to 20x20 pixel range. Assuming that a legend is the same thing as a key (is it?) then I could use a small icon of a key (like you'd unlock a door with) but that seems cheesy or unclear at worst. I'm not sure that's really the clearest way to do it. Is there an icon that should instantly remind users of a legend?

• Restoring a subversion repository to workcopy revision

  My subversion VM died the other day (host hardware melted) and I had to restore a backed up copy of the vmware server image. The restore went well and the VM is running again on a new host. The problem I have is that my restored repository is at revision 60 but my working copy on my PC is at 66. When I try and commit my working copy I get the following error message. svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: No such revision 61 What is the best way to force this commit and bring subversion up to the same revision as my working copy? • Multi-tab application (C#)

  Hi, I'm creating a multi-tabbed .NET application that allows the user to dynamically add and remove tabs at runtime. When a new tab is added, a control is added to it (as a child), in which the contents can be edited (eg. a text box). The user can perform tasks on the currently visible text box using a toolbar/menu bar. To better explain this, look at the picture below to see an example of what I want to accomplish. It's just a mock-up, so it doesn't actually work that way, but it shows what I want to get done. Essentially, like a multi-tabbed Notepad. • Transform PDF to HTML, keep layout

  What methods are there to transform a PDF to HTML? It could be anything - online service, software, library. (Opensource preferred. In the last case, php or python would be preferred.) It has to keep the original layout (including page numbers, footnotes and such), keep the images (combining them to one single background image per page is acceptable) and keep the links. It should preferably output valid XHTML and clean up PDF features such as ligatures, but if there is some post-processing required, I can live with that. Something with a clean, relatively semantic HTML output would be great. The closest one I found was zamzar.org, but it choked on links. (Also, the HTML output is an ugly heap of absolutely positioned divs and needs post-processing because of encoding problems.)

• My iPhone App don't works in iOS 4. Why?

  Hi everybody. I make a iPhone App that display some videos, I made it with Xcode 3.2.2 with iPhone SDK 3.1.3 and works fine. But a few days ago I downloaded the last version of the iPhone SDK for iOS 4, the proyect Build ok, no erros, no warnings, but when I run the aplication the video didnt work, the image didn't load but sound works. I don't understand it. Here is the code that I used. • What is the best way to render sprites using OpenGL?

  I have been digging around for the past couple of days for a good way to render small sprites using OpenGL and glut. I have tried different libraries including EasyBMP and a few others but all of them seem to have some sort of problem with them that I cannot solve. I want to be able to take image data (I don't care what format it is or what I have to do to it to get it to work) and under the context of games programming use it on the screen. What is the best way to achieve this? I seem to be running around in circles.

• Localizing other pages in Settings.bundle

  I have other pages within my app preferences which are stored as separate files within the settings.bundle. It has come time to localize my app and I can only seem to get the Root values to localize. I was wondering whether there was a trick? The following image shows that my second screen is stored within a file called "MyPrefs.plist" and I have created a corresponding named file "MyPrefs.strings" in the en.lproj directory. Mirroring the same naming and location as the Root.plist and Root.strings. The values with the Root.plist are converted as expected but not in the extra screen. Is there any trick to localizing secondary screens with the settings.bundle?

• Highlight polygon and tint rest of map using Google Maps

  Hi, I'd like to display a highlighted polygon using Google Maps. The idea is that the polygon in question would be displayed normally and the rest of the map should be darkened a little bit. Here's an example image what I would like to accomplish with a polygon from Austria: Unfortunately, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to Google Maps API's and map stuff in general. So, is this even possible do this with Google Map API's? If yes, with what version (v2, v3)? Would it be easier to do it with other map toolkits, like openlayers? PS: One idea I had, was to build an inverse polygon (in this example, the whole world minus the shape of austria) and then display a black colored overlay with transparency using this inverted polygon. But that seems to be quite complicated to me.

  I'm trying to convert bmp files in a folder to jpg, then delete the old files. The code works fine, except it can't delete the bmp's.   I'm trying to write a function that will let me red-shift or blue-shift a bitmap while preserving the overall brightness of the image. Basically, a fully red-shifted bitmap would have the same brightness as the original but be thoroughly red-tinted (i.e. the G and B values would be equal for all pixels). Same for blue-tinting (but with R and G equal). The degree of spectrum shifting needs to vary from 0 to 1. Thanks in advance.

• CSS3 Continous Rotate Animation (Just like a loading sundial)

  Hi, I am trying to replicate an Apple style activity indicator (sundial loading icon) by using a PNG and CSS3 animation. I have the image rotating and doing it continuously, but there seems to be a delay after the animation has finished before it does the next rotation. @-webkit-keyframes rotate { from { -webkit-transform: rotate(0deg); } to { -webkit-transform: rotate(360deg); } } #loading img { -webkit-animation-name: rotate; -webkit-animation-duration: 0.5s; -webkit-animation-iteration-count: infinite; -webkit-transition-timing-function: linear; } I have tried changing the animation duration but it makes no difference, if you slow it right down say 5s its just more apparent that after the first rotation there is a pause before it rotates again. It's this pause I want to get rid of. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

  I'm building a few small prototypes in Silverlight and have quite a bit of .NET experience, but Ive never had the need to contact the server from Silverlight. Im really just after a really quick solution for the purposes of prototyping and I'll be needing to call the server and do a few things, like server a generated image from the server, receive basic responses from the server, but nothing too fancy. Is .NET RIA Services the best way to do this or is it overkill? The documentation for RIA Services is huge, 1 hour long video introductions, 26-part series blogs, etc... seems like its overkill. Is there a quick REST based project I could create, or should RIA services be the way to go?

• SQL Server adding a record record manually to a view

  I have a view which contains the data seen in the image below. The view is showing me how many working days are available in each month for the current financial year taking away any school/bank holidays. As the month of August has zero days available it has excluded this month from the view. As the total number of days available will always be zero for the month of August, then it seems acceptable to hardcode the SQL to always have 0 for August, and also an April-August record which will be the same as April-July.   Is it possible to cache the response of a http handler on the server and on the client? This doesn't seem to be doing the trick: _context.Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.Public); _context.Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddDays(7)); The _context is the HTTPContext passed as an argument to the ProcessRequest method on the IHttpHandler implementation. Any ideas? Update: The client does cache images that are loaded through the httphandler, but if another client does the same call, the server hasn't got it cached. So for each client that asks for the image, the server goes to the database (and filestream). If we use a aspx page instead of a httphandler together with a caching profile, then the images are cached both on the client and the server.

  I have 2 virtual hosts running on my Windows XP laptop. One is Ubuntu running inside vmware player. The other is MS virtual PC (so I can test with IE6 ). The Ubuntu virtual host is running my web application with apache. I can point my browser on my laptop at the Ubuntu IP and view my web app. I read this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/197792/how-to-connect-to-host-machine-from-within-virtual-pc-image and was able to get my Virtual PC to ping my physical machine using the loopback adapter. But I'm stuck on getting my Virtual PC to see my web application running in the Ubuntu vmware player host. I appreciate any suggestions.

  Hi Frst of all wanted to send out a huge thanks for the great feedback and support. I have a simple application working, right now simply loads a sequence of images and alows the user to step thru the images by clicking a button. All of my logic is in my Application Delegate class, with the image loading, initialization of UIImage Views etc happening in my applicationDidFinishLaunching method. My next step is to migrate as much as possible all of the logic from this class to a ViewController, to take advantage of the extra functionality etc in viewcontrollers. All my images and imageViews are initialized like the following in my applicationDidFinishLaunching. img = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@image1.jpg" ofType:nil]]; imgView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:img]; How would I migrate this to a ViewController based application? Where would I put all of the logic currently in my applicationDidFinishLaunching method, or for loading of images, is it necessary to only load them here? Any feedback, tips, suggestions appreciated.

I know the default encoding of the Java net transmission is "ISO-8859-1", it can works normally with all characters what defined in "ISO-8859-1". But when I request a multi-byte Unicode character (e.g. chinese or something like ¤?), then I need to decode it by "UTF-8" from "ISO-8859-1". My codes like: String reslut = new String(requestString.getBytes("ISO-8859-1"), "UTF-8"); Everything is fine, but I found some characters in ISO-8859-1 are not been shown now, which characters are 0x80 - 0xFF(defined in" ISO-8859-1"), i.e. the characters except 0x00-0x7F are not been shown when converted to "UTF-8" from "ISO-8859-1" Any other method can solve this query?

• Is there a way to write System.Drawing.Graphics to PDF from C#?

  I have a whole bunch of 2D graphics that is being used for both rendering controls on screen and used to print, it's pretty custom graphics that couldn't be done by any 3rd party reporting tools or off the shelf controls. The program can generate PDF files of the printed content but when I wrote it I cheated and just print the Graphics object to an in memory image and then embed that into the PDF page. Since the users are emailing the documents they're finding they are too large. I've started writing the PDF from scratch using iText, however is there a way to get System.Drawing.Graphics content directly into PDF? The way iText works and Graphics works is completely different.
