  hi my problem is how to create footer image in this video screen while playing.... how to create this format. now i am give my description: • 1) Header image, a stretched background image. The location of this external image comes from the application xml; • 2) Footer image, a stretched background image. And an option to buy the application for the advertisement less version. The content of this block is fed trough the application XML feed. The color of the text is fed by the application xml plus the popup links and texts itself; • 3) Carousel image, a stretched background image. The location of this external image comes from the application xml; 3.a) the carousel contains objects that can flow from right to left, possibly trough a animation (a soft break of the slide). The first object is centered in the middle of the carousel. This is the first element in the video feed. All the subsequent video object are added to the right of the centered object; 4) Total Video object, this object links to window two with the corresponding video of this object. This object is visually build out of the following sub parts:o 4.a) Thumb object (possible playing video thumb); 4.b) Reflection of the Thumb; 4.c) Textual Explanation of Thumb. 1) Video stream, this is the video stream coming from a external server streamed to the television (maybe up scaled) as 720p stream; 2) Advertisement, the type of advertisement shown overlaid on the video is based on previous settings in the video feed. This could mean that Admob, Adsense or a third party image plus URL could be shown. When the advertisement is selected trough navigation (it will highlight in a different color as a border around the advertisement. The color an thickness can be managed trough the application xml), when clicked a browser will open with the associated site (the application will be pushed to the background process, when the user is finished it will return to the app); 3) A back button, an image and navigational element. The location of the image comes from the application xml. The button is only shown when a cursor is moved (a button is pressed on the remote) it will highlight when selected and when pressed will forward the screen to the main window. When the main window is opened the video will be removed from cache and memory and cannot be start from the point it was exited. please give me your idea....

• How do I properly register the Type Library of A VB.NET COM+ Component?

  I am looking to upgrade legacy VB6 COM+ components to VB.NET components. I have seemingly upgraded one already, called EventPackage, which has one class, IEventListener. Another, TradeOrders, Implements EventPackage.IEventListener. When attempting to build TradeOrders, I get the following Errors/Warnings; Cannot load type library for reference "EventPackage". Library not registered. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8002801D (TYPE_E_LIBNOTREGISTERED)) The referenced component 'EventPackage' could not be found. Type 'EventPackage.IEventListener' is not defined. In the .vbproj, I notice this reference <COMReference Include="EventPackage"> <Guid>{0D76C094-21A6-4E04-802B-6E539F7102D7}</Guid> <Lcid>0</Lcid> <VersionMajor>2</VersionMajor> <VersionMinor>0</VersionMinor> <WrapperTool>tlbimp</WrapperTool> </COMReference> When I search the registry for this Guid, I find nothing. When using GUIDs for similar COM+ objects, I find them in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{...}\TypeLib ("..." being the GUID of the other component). When I go to the registry key name corresponding to EventPackage.IEventListener, I find that there is no \TypeLib subkey. As you might suspect, searching the reg for "0D76C094-21A6-4E04-802B-6E539F7102D7" yields no results. So I know this must be a registry problem, But I have tried seemingly every google result I have found. I have tried Regasm and regsvcs .exe's to no avail. Many pages just tell me that dragging the dll to the COM+ manager should automatically register the component. So how do I register the Type library? Details on how I made EventPackage COM+ component Ran the VB6-VB.NET wizard Then I added some lines to the assemblyinfo.vb file added Imports System.EnterpriseServices added Imports System.EnterpriseServices Imports System.Data.SqlClient <Assembly: CLSCompliant(True)> <Assembly: AssemblyKeyFileAttribute("...")> for a strong name <Assembly: Guid("...")> (Where "..." is the COM+ CLSID of the old component) I added the following to the class file IEventListener.VB Imports System.EnterpriseServices <ComClass("...")> _ (Where ... is the proper COM+ CLSID, that is the only argument) Inherits ServicedComponent changed the ID made by the Conversion wizard to the proper value (from <System.Runtime.InteropServices.ProgId("IEventListener_NET.IEventListener)> to <System.Runtime.InteropServices.ProgId("EventPackage.IEventListener")> _ Then I dragged the DLL into the COM+ manager in the proper COM+ application (although, the "Path" is not specified and only says mscoree.dll)

• How can I sort an array, yet exclude certain elements (to be kept at the same position in the array)

  This will be implemented in Javascript (jQuery) but I suppose the method could be used in any language. I have an array of items and I need to perform a sort. However there are some items in the array that have to be kept in the same position (same index). The array in question is build from a list of <li> elements and I'm using .data() values attached to the list item as the value on which to sort. • Javascript table construction bug using JQuery in Firefox on Mac OSX

  I'm using some code to build up tables using JQuery, but in Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac OSX, the table cells all appear on separate lines by themselves, instead of in their respective rows. Chrome 5.0.342.7 beta on OSX correctly produces the table, as does Safari 4.0.5. Also, if I change the JS to append then entire table in one call then it also works -- the only time it doesn't work is if you append it part-by-part as I have done before. My question is: is this to be expected, or should I report this as a bug to Firefox? I'm pretty sure this is a Firefox bug, but I'm a bit of a newbie to JS and web development in general, so perhaps there's something I'm missing? P.S. obviously there are easy ways to get around this -- that's not my concern. See above.

  I have a realy hard task here. I am working on an AngularJS web app, which is capable of sending different HTTP methods to our project's Restful Web Service and receiving responses in JSON. Basicaly it looks like this: You can create some REST resource from this application. Let's say an exam. To create an exam - you pick a resource from a list of available resources. This triggers a function, that sends a request to localhost:8080/STEP/api/explain/resorceName and gets a description for this resource. Does anyone know how this can be achieved using angular recursive directive? Every useful answer is highly appreciated and evaluated.   I am trying to send a HTTP PUT (in order to create a new cache and populate it with my generated JSON) to ehCache using my webservice which is on the same local tomcat instance. Am new to RESTful Web Services and am using JDK 1.6, Tomcat 7, ehCache, and JSON. • C++ Template const char array to int

  So, I'm wishing to be able to have a static const compile time struct that holds some value based on a string by using templates. I only desire up to four characters. I know that the type of 'abcd' is int, and so is 'ab','abc', and although 'a' is of type char, it works out for a template<int v> struct What I wish to do is take sizes of 2,3,4,5 of some const char, "abcd" and have the same functionality as if they used 'abcd'. Note that I do not mean 1,2,3, or 4 because I expect the null terminator. cout << typeid("abcd").name() << endl; tells me that the type for this hard coded string is char const [5], which includes the null terminator on the end. I understand that I will need to twiddle the values as characters, so they are represented as an integer. I cannot use constexpr since VS10 does not support it (VS11 doesn't either..) So, for example with somewhere this template defined, and later the last line template <int v> struct something { static const int value = v; }; //Eventually in some method cout << typeid(something<'abcd'>::value).name() << endl; works just fine. I've tried template<char v[5]> struct something2 { static const int value = v[0]; } template<char const v[5]> struct something2 { static const int value = v[0]; } template<const char v[5]> struct something2 { static const int value = v[0]; } All of them build individually, though when I throw in my test, cout << typeid(something2<"abcd">::value).name() << endl; I get 'something2' : invalid expression as a template argument for 'v' 'something2' : use of class template requires template argument list Is this not feasible or am I misunderstanding something?

• What is the most idiomatic way to emulating Perl's Test::More::done_testing?

  I have to build unit tests for in environment with a very old version of Test::More (perl5.8 with $Test::More::VERSION being '0.80') which predates the addition of done_testing(). Upgrading to newer Test::More is out of the question for practical reasons. And I am trying to avoid using no_tests - it's generally a bad idea not catching when your unit test exits prematurely - say due to some logic not executing when you expected it to. What is the most idiomatic way of running a configurable amount of tests, assuming no no_tests or done_testing() is used? Details: My unit tests usually take the form of: use Test::More; my @test_set = ( [ "Test #1", $param1, $param2, ... ] ,[ "Test #1", $param1, $param2, ... ] # ,... ); foreach my $test (@test_set) { run_test($test); } sub run_test { # $expected_tests += count_tests($test); ok(test1($test)) || diag("Test1 failed"); # ... } The standard approach of use Test::More tests => 23; or BEGIN {plan tests => 23} does not work since both are obviously executed before @tests is known. • How can I improve my select query for storing large versioned data sets?

  At work, we build large multi-page web applications, consisting mostly of radio and check boxes. The primary purpose of each application is to gather data, but as users return to a page they have previously visited, we report back to them their previous responses. Worst-case scenario, we might have up to 900 distinct variables and around 1.5 million users. For several reasons, it makes sense to use an insert-only approach to storing the data (as opposed to update-in-place) so that we can capture historical data about repeated interactions with variables. The net result is that we might have several responses per user per variable. Our table to collect the responses looks something like this: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[results]( [id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [userid] [int] NULL, [variable] [varchar](8) NULL, [value] [tinyint] NULL, [submitted] [smalldatetime] NULL) Where id serves as the primary key. Virtually every request results in a series of insert statements (one per variable submitted), and then we run a select to produce previous responses for the next page (something like this): SELECT t.id, t.variable, t.value FROM results t WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE t.userid = '2111846' AND (t.variable='internat' OR t.variable='veteran' OR t.variable='athlete') AND t.id IN (SELECT MAX(id) AS id FROM results WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE userid = '2111846' AND (t.variable='internat' OR t.variable='veteran' OR t.variable='athlete') GROUP BY variable) Which, in this case, would return the most recent responses for the variables "internat", "veteran", and "athlete" for user 2111846. We have followed the advice of the database tuning tools in indexing the tables, and against our data, this is the best-performing version of the select query that we have been able to come up with. Even so, there seems to be significant performance degradation as the table approaches 1 million records (and we might have about 150x that). We have a fairly-elegant solution in place for sharding the data across multiple tables which has been working quite well, but I am open for any advice about how I might construct a better version of the select query. We use this structure frequently for storing lots of independent data points, and we like the benefits it provides. So the question is, how can I improve the performance of the select query? I assume the nested select statement is a bad idea, but I have yet to find an alternative that performs as well. Thanks in advance. NB: Since we emphasize creating over reading in this case, and since we never update in place, there doesn't seem to be any penalty (and some advantage) for using the NOLOCK directive in this case.

• Is 4-5 years the “Midlife Crisis” for a programming career?

  I’ve been programming C# professionally for a bit over 4 years now. For the past 4 years I’ve worked for a few small/medium companies ranging from “web/ads agencies”, small industry specific software shops to a small startup. I've been mainly doing "business apps" that involves using high-level programming languages (garbage collected) and my overall experience was that all of the works I’ve done could have been more professional. A lot of the things were done incorrectly (in a rush) mainly due to cost factor that people always wanted something “now” and with the smallest amount of spendable money. I kept on thinking maybe if I could work for a bigger companies or a company that’s better suited for programmers, or somewhere that's got the money and time to really build something longer term and more maintainable I may have enjoyed more in my career. I’ve never had a “mentor” that guided me through my 4 years career. I am pretty much blog / google / self taught programmer other than my bachelor IT degree. I’ve also observed another issue that most so called “senior” programmer in “my working environment” are really not that senior skill wise. They are “senior” only because they’ve been a long time programmer, but the code they write or the decisions they make are absolutely rubbish! They don't want to learn, they don't want to be better they just want to get paid and do what they've told to do which make sense and most of us are like that. Maybe that’s why they are where they are now. But I don’t want to become like them I want to be better. I’ve run into a mental state that I no longer intend to be a programmer for my future career. I started to think maybe there are better things out there to work on. The more blogs I read, the more “best practices” I’ve tried the more I feel I am drifting away from “my reality”. But I am not a great programmer otherwise I don't think I am where I am now. I think 4-5 years is a stage that can be a step forward career wise or a step out of where you are. I just wanted to hear what other have to say about what I’ve mentioned above and whether you’ve experienced similar situation in your past programming career and how you dealt with it. Thanks.

• Model self referential collections in Rails

  I have written an application for an online clothing store in Rails 2.3.5. I want to show related Products when a customer views the Product Detail page. For example, if the customer views the detail page for a suit, I'd like to display the accessory products that match the dress such as a vest, shoes, and belt. I have named the related products an Ensemble. However, the vest, shoes, and belts are also Products which is what has me struggling. I have it working as follows but I know it's not the Rails way. I have a Products table for all of the products. Not important here but I also have a ProductDetails table. I have an Ensembles table that has the following columns: product_id - the main or origination product, the one displayed on the detail page outfit_id - the related or accessory product In setting up the data, on the Products list, for each Product I have an Ensemble link. This link takes you to the index action in the Ensembles controller. Using the id from the "main" Product, I find all of the associated Ensemble rows by product_id or I create a new ensemble and assign the id from the main product as the product_id. I'd like to just be able to do @product.related_products to get an Ensemble collection. Also on the index page I list the columns of the main product so the user can be sure their main product was the one they selected from the list. I also have a select list of the other products, with an Add to Ensemble action. Finally on the same index page, I have a table that displays the products that are already in the ensemble and in that list each row has a destroy link to remove a particular product from the ensemble. It would be nice if given a single Ensemble row @ensemble I could do @ensemble.product to get the Product related to the outfit_id of the ensemble row. I've got it working without associations but I have to run queries in the controller to build my own @product, @ensemble, and @ensembles collections. Also the only way I found to destroy an ensemble row is by Ensemble.connection.delete(sql to delete), simple @ensemble.destroy doesn't work. Anyone know how I would set up the associations or have a link to a site explaining a similar setup. None of the examples I found use the same table. They have A related to B through C. I want A related to other A through B.

In my projects i've been using var mfloor = Math.floor, and according to my not-so-amazing benchmarks, my efforts to "optimize" actually slowed down the script by ALOT... • pagerAnchorBuilder - trying to add classes

  I'm using Cycle2 to build a carousel gallery and I've run into a little problem regarding styling the pager buttons. What I've gathered is that Cycle2 creates its own pager span tags for each slide which is a bummer becaus I've already styled my the sub-nav markup. This should be a minor issue as long as I can assign individual classes to the spans and change my css accordingly. However, I can't get this to work. TLDR: I was hoping that I could use pagerAnchorBuilder to create individual classes for each span. I can't. Help. • Animation not start immediately when the target view is out of window

  Hi. When I apply some animation to the view, which is out of window, the animation not start immediately. And then, I scroll the screen to show the animation target view, the animation will start. Thoughts?

My question: Im trying to build a CSS horizontal menu with hover drop downs, however, when I use the 'display: inline' property with li (list) items, I get horizontal spaces between the li (list) items in the bar. How do I remove this space? • How do I use JDK 7 on Mac OSX?

  OK. This is a newbie question but I can't figure it out... I would like to use the WatchService API as mentioned in this link: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/notification.html After reading around, I found out that WatchService is part of the NIO class which is scheduled for JDK 7. So, it is in beta form. It's fine. http://jdk7.java.net/download.html has the JDK which I downloaded and extracted. I got a bunch of folders. I don't know what to do with them. Then, I read around some more and found that some nice group of people created JDK 7 as a binary so someone like me can install it easily. It is called Open JDK: http://code.google.com/p/openjdk-osx-build/ So, I downloaded the .dmg file and instal it. Then I open "Java Preference" and see that OpenJDK7 is available. So, now I feel that I can start trying out WatchService API. From the tutorial in the first link, the author gave a .java file to test it out first and make sure that it is running. Here is the link to the file: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/essential/io/examples/WatchDir.java So, I boot up Eclipse (actually I use STS) and create a new Java project and choose JaveSE-1.7 in the "use an execution environment JRE:". Under the src folder, I copy pasted the WatchDir.java file. And I still see tons of squiggly red lines. All the "import.java.nio.*" are all red and I cannot run it as a Java app. If you read this far, thanks a lot. So, now... What do I need to do? Thanks. EDIT: I actually did not pursue using Java 7 but there are a lot of interest in it and it seems like people keep answering this question. • Using a large list of terms, search through page text and replace words with links

  A while ago I posted this question asking if it's possible to convert text to HTML links if they match a list of terms from my database. I have a fairly huge list of terms - around 6000. The accepted answer on that question was superb, but having never used XPath, I was at a loss when problems started occurring. At one point, after fiddling with code, I somehow managed to add over 40,000 random characters to our database - the majority of which required manual removal. Since then I've lost faith in that idea and the more simple PHP solutions simply weren't efficient enough to deal with the amount of data and the quantity of terms. My next attempt at a solution is to write a JS script which, once the page has loaded, retrieves the terms and matches them against the text on a page. This answer has an idea which I'd like to attempt. I would use AJAX to retrieve the terms from the database, to build an object such as this: var words = [ { word: 'Something', link: 'http://www.something.com' }, { word: 'Something Else', link: 'http://www.something.com/else' } ]; When the object has been built, I'd use this kind of code: //for each array element $.each(words, function() { //store it ("this" is gonna become the dom element in the next function) var search = this; $('.message').each( function() { //if it's exactly the same if ($(this).text() === search.word) { //do your magic tricks $(this).html('<a href="' + search.link + '">' + search.link + '</a>'); } } ); } ); Now, at first sight, there is a major issue here: with 6,000 terms, will this code be in any way efficient enough to do what I'm trying to do?. One option would possibly be to perform some of the overhead within the PHP script that the AJAX communicates with. For instance, I could send the ID of the post and then the PHP script could use SQL statements to retrieve all of the information from the post and match it against all 6,000 terms.. then the return call to the JavaScript could simply be the matching terms, which would significantly reduce the number of matches the above jQuery would make (around 50 at most). I have no problem with the script taking a few seconds to "load" on the user's browser, as long as it isn't impacting their CPU usage or anything like that. So, two questions in one: Can I make this work? What steps can I take to make it as efficient as possible? Thanks in advance,

  Update/Note: I think what I'm probably looking for is to get the captures of a group in PHP. Referenced: PCRE regular expressions using named pattern subroutines. (Read carefully:) I have a string that contains a variable number of segments (simplified): $subject = 'AA BB DD '; // could be 'AA BB DD CC EE ' as well I would like now to match the segments and return them via the matches array: $pattern = '/^(([a-z]+) )+$/i'; $result = preg_match_all($pattern, $subject, $matches); This will only return the last match for the capture group 2: DD. Is there a way that I can retrieve all subpattern captures (AA, BB, DD) with one regex execution? Isn't preg_match_all suitable for this? This question is a generalization. Both the $subject and $pattern are simplified. Naturally with such the general list of AA, BB, .. is much more easy to extract with other functions (e.g. explode) or with a variation of the $pattern. But I'm specifically asking how to return all of the subgroup matches with the preg_...-family of functions. For a real life case imagine you have multiple (nested) level of a variant amount of subpattern matches. Example This is an example in pseudo code to describe a bit of the background. Imagine the following: Regular definitions of tokens: CHARS := [a-z]+ PUNCT := [.,!?] WS := [ ] $subject get's tokenized based on these. The tokenization is stored inside an array of tokens (type, offset, ...). That array is then transformed into a string, containing one character per token: CHARS -> "c" PUNCT -> "p" WS -> "s" So that it's now possible to run regular expressions based on tokens (and not character classes etc.) on the token stream string index. E.g. regex: (cs)?cp to express one or more group of chars followed by a punctuation. As I now can express self-defined tokens as regex, the next step was to build the grammar. This is only an example, this is sort of ABNF style: words = word | (word space)+ word word = CHARS+ space = WS punctuation = PUNCT If I now compile the grammar for words into a (token) regex I would like to have naturally all subgroup matches of each word. words = (CHARS+) | ( (CHARS+) WS )+ (CHARS+) # words resolved to tokens words = (c+)|((c+)s)+c+ # words resolved to regex I could code until this point. Then I ran into the problem that the sub-group matches did only contain their last match. So I have the option to either create an automata for the grammar on my own (which I would like to prevent to keep the grammar expressions generic) or to somewhat make preg_match working for me somehow so I can spare that. • Why is my custom view not appearing?

  When I comment out setContentView(boardView); in my Game.java my custom view in BoardView works fine and displays everything nicely... but onSizeChanged never gets called in BoardView.java... so I can't read the device width and height at runtime. If I leave setContentView uncommented onSizeChanged works... but the screen is blank!
