• Visual studio asp.net code behind file not showing errors

  Hi, I am developing a web application in which I am suddenly facing an issue. I have a webpage which contains many controls, one of the control is JQuery color picker. Now, I am upgrading my system with telerik controls. As part of this process, I replaced textbox(txtcolor) with radcolorpicker with a different id(colorPicker). Suddenly, my code behind file is not throwing any errors like 'unable to find txtColor'. It is running successfully without build errors. But, when I open the page, system is throwing runtime exception(txtColor not found) which is correct. I tried to change other controls with asp.net controls, still the problem persists. So, I dont think it is anything to do with telerik. Could you please let me know how can fix this issue?? Thanks, Mahesh

• Detect WebKit Version 525 and Below With RegEx

  I'm no good at Regular Expressions, really! I would like to specifically detect WebKit browsers below version 525. I have a regular expression [/WebKit\/[\d.]+/.exec(navigator.appVersion)] that correctly returns WebKit/5….…, really, I'd like it to return only the version number, but if the browser isn't WebKit, return null, or better still 0. For example, if the browser was Trident, Presto or Gecko, return null, whereas if the browser is WebKit, return it's version number. To clarify, I would like the regular expression to check if navigator.appVersion contains WebKit and if it does not, return null, if it does, return the version number. I appreciate all your help! Please let's keep this focused, let's not flirt with jQuery or the sort, it's overkill in this scenario.

• asp.net MVC Partial Views how to initialise javascript

  Hi, I have an edit form that uses an ajax form to submit to the controller. Depending on the data submitted I redirect the user to one of two pages (by returning a partial view). Both pages rely on javascript/jquery and neither use anything common between the pages. What is the best way to initialise these javascripts on each page? I know there is the AjaxOption OnComplete but both pages are quite dynamic depending on the Model passed and I would rather keep the javascript for both pages seperate rather than having a common method.   Hey everybody, I've been seriously preparing to take the entrepreneurship leap. I've got a great partner, and we're going to take on some minor funding, and do the thing. Our product is web-based- I'll deem it YAWA (Yet Another Web Application). Both my partner and I have database and web development experience, and I've had a front-end developer in mind for a while. Except, well- he just bowed out. I know a fair amount about the associated technologies (XHTML, CSS, Javascript and some JQuery) interface-side, but I've never had to deal with real-world scenarios, eg cross-browser design. Am I going to be able to survive without this guy? Is it realistic to believe that I can learn the details as I go?

There are many plugins that support degrading the javascript to browsers that dont have javascript enabled and techniques to support this. What are peoples thoughts on javascript support, we build applications rather than just websites and are looking to just support javascript enabled browsers as a pre-requisite assuming that most people or companies have javascript enabled. Do you find most people have javascript? do you monitor the percentage of javascript/non-javascript browsers (I guess this can be done with website stats) and what are the numbers regarding this?

  I'm following the Railscast #223 that introduced Morris.JS. I generate a data set called @orders_yearly in my controller and in my view I have the following to try and render the graph: <%= content_tag :div, "", id: "orders_chart", data: {orders: @orders_yearly} %> Calling @orders_yearly.inspect shows it's just a simple hash: {2009=>1000, 2010=>2000, 2011=>4000, 2012=>100000} I'll need to modify the values for xkey and ykeys in coffeescript to work, but I'm not sure how to make it work with my data set: jQuery -> Morris.Line element: 'orders_chart' data: $('#orders_chart').data('orders') xkey: 'purchased_at' # <------------------ replace with what? ykeys: ['price'] # <---------------------- replace with what? labels: ['Price'] Anyone have any ideas? • Insert an ajaxified Webpart into an existing MOSS site

  Hi everybody, I need to code a webpart which purpose is to asynchronously fetch some documents and display them into an existing page. Unfortunately I have to face a lot of rescritcions and my struggle to find a solution seems useleess so far. 1) I cannot use Microsoft asp.net ajax 2) I must use Jsonp because the called service (page, whatever...) is outside the site's domain. That's not a big problem. 3) I have no possibility to alter the existing page code, so I cannot reference an external library such as JQuery. 4) For the same reason I have no possibility to call my methods on the window.onLoad event, so here the question is: how can I be sure that everything is correctly loaded before triggering my ajax call? 5) Since several instances of the same webpart can be placed into the same page, can there be some possible conflicts among the various js functions?

• Determining full XHR request URL on a Google Chrome XHR Breakpoint

  I am initiating a jQuery ajax ($.ajax) post, within the Google Chrome browser. I have setup a XHR breakpoint in the "XHR Breakpoints" section of the "Scripts" tab within the Developer Tools. The criteria of the breakpoint is "get" ie. I want the debugger to break on all XHR requests which contain the word "get" in them (somePage.asmx/getListOfAnimals) is an example. The breakpoint is being correctly hit, however I am unable to determine what the exact URL that is being requested. I realize I can remove the breakpoint and see what URL is being requested from the "Network" tab, but I want to know this at the time the breakpoint is hit. I have tried stepping through the XHR request once it has been hit in Chrome, but I must be missing a Javascript object/property which contains the fully requested URL. Google Chrome has detected that the XHR requested URL contains "get" but how do I get to this URL from within the debug session before the request is made?

• Searching for a semantic syntax highlighter in Javascript

  OK, I know, there are literally dozens of already available syntax highlighters out there. But I want one specifically, that implements line numbers through <ol/> lists. And that reduces the number of possible candidates to one, Lighter.js. Unfortunately, that is MooTools based, and since I decided some time ago to use jQuery, I don't want to embed yet another library just for syntax highlighting. The SyntaxHighlighter does something similar, but uses tables for the line numbering, and I don't want to hack it, if there is an already available tool, too.

• Adding links to full change forms for inline items in django admin?

  I have a standard admin change form for an object, with the usual StackedInline forms for a ForeignKey relationship. I would like to be able to link each inline item to its corresponding full-sized change form, as the inline item has inlined items of its own, and I can't nest them. I've tried everything from custom widgets to custom templates, and can't make anything work. So far, the "solutions" I've seen in the form of snippets just plain don't seem to work for inlines. I'm getting ready to try some DOM hacking with jQuery just to get it working and move on. I hope I must be missing something very simple, as this seems like such a simple task! Using Django 1.2.

• Phonegap: Slow response with vibrate notification

  I created a simple android application with jquery and phonegap. When testing the app with phone, I noticed that vibration effect, that I have used to indicate that user touches a button, comes after a delay of maybe 0,5 seconds. This is way too long delay and just confuses the user. Is this just the downside of using phonegap? Or is there any configuration or additional frameworks which could be used to make the app response and produce the vibration more quickly? I installed the vibration plugin like this: phonegap local plugin add https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf/cordova-plugin-vibration.git I use the code below to create the vibration effect. navigator.notification.vibrate(200); My phone gap version is 3.0.0-0.14.3

• Need help parsing file/writing script

  Hey all, I have been doing nothing but web development over the last few years and haven't written any Java or C++ in what feels like forever. I don't necessarily need to use these languages, so I'm entirely open to suggestion. I was given an email list by a client to import into their mailchimp account yesterday and unfortunately, Mailchimp couldn't read the file. It's a text file, but I don't believe it's tab delimited (which would make this much, much easier for me). A small portion of the file (I've changed last names and email addresses) can be viewed here: http://sparktoignite.com/patients.txt If anyone has suggestions on how I can get this into a Mailchimp readable format (csv, tab delimited txt, excel) please let me know. I feel like 3 years ago I would've been able to do this in a matter of minutes, but given that I haven't touched anything other than RoR, PHP, and jQuery for the last few years, I don't know where to start.   I'm new to stackoverflow and have been reading through a bunch of the "highest voted" questions for GWT. Several of these questions talk about the pitfalls or problems with GWT. In the articles: Which Javascript framework (jQuery vs Dojo vs … )? and Biggest GWT Pitfalls?, some posters seem to suggest that GWT is not lightweight enough or that there are better alternatives that may be used. Do most of you feel that there are problems with GWT that have not been fixed with GWT 2.0 -- which would make you inclined to suggest using a simpler framework for a new project? To some extent, shouldn't GWT be somewhat future-proof (since you don't have to worry about it changing drastically from release to release and since it is backed by Google)? I realize that the answer to this question depends greatly upon what you want to do or what you wish to make. I am looking at this from the perspective of starting a new web application that will eventually be used by millions of users.

  Here's (i think) an interesting question. With AJAX more and more common i feel more and more like doing all form validation server-side. Picture a registration form pre-AJAX. You have all your validation client-side using the common asp validation controls and validation summery...except...checking username availability, check emailadress availability, captcha and what not. So you end up with 2 kinds of validation and so presenting the user with 2 different UI's at 2 different moments. 2 words come to my mind. Ugly. Inconsistent. So here's the question. Why not do all the validation server-side (using AJAX or not). (I'm not using JQuery yet, should i?)

• referencing a WCF web service

  Our current project uses an asmx service. We want to keep this service for now, but would like to add an additional wcf service for ajax calls. I followed a procedure i found online to set up the service and it works fine with javascript in aspx files within that particular project but i'm unsure how to reference it in javascript files in a different project (in the same solution). If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. • Get the full URI from the href property of a link

  Hello SO, I would like to have a confirmation on some point. My goal is to always get the same string (which is the URI in my case) while reading the href property from a link. Example: <a href="test.htm" /> with base_url = http://domain.name/ <a href="../test.htm" /> with base_url = http://domain.name/domain/ <a href="http://domain.name/test.htm" /> with base_url = any folder from http://domain.name/ I need to get http://domain.name/test.htm from the 3 situations above (or any other identical string). After some tests, it appears that my_a_dom_node.href always return the full-qualified URI, including the http://domaine.name, which should be okay for what I want. jQuery has a different behaviour and $(my_a_dom_node).attr('href') returns the content (text) that appears inside the HTML. So my trick is to use $(my_a_dom_node).get(0).href to get the full URI. The question is: can I rely on this?

• CSS : overflow : auto will not work under FireFox 3.6.2

  Hello everyone: This is a CSS related question, I got one good answer from my previous question, which suggested to use some CSS code like overflow:auto together with a fixed height container. And here is my actual implementation : on uni server Please follow the instructions on screen and buy more than 4 kinds of tickets. If you are using IE8, Opera, Safari, Chrome, you would notice that the lower right corner of the page now has a vertical scroll bar, which scrolls the content inside it and prevent it from overflowing. That's what I want to have in this section. Now the problem is, this would not do in FireFox 3.6.2. Am I doing something not compliant to the CSS standard or FireFox has its own way of overflow control? You can inspect the elements on screen, and all controlling functions are done in one javascript using jQuery. All CSS code are kept in a separated file as well. According to the professor, FireFox would be the target browser, although the version was set to 2.0...

  Hi, my date formatting in PHP is d-M-Y and I'm trying to match the dates with a javascript regex: s.match(new RegExp(/^(\d{1,2})(\-)(\w{3})(\-)(\d{4})$/)) To be used with the jQuery plugin, tablesorter. The problem is it's not working and I'm wondering why not. I tried removing the dashes in my date() formatting (d M Y) and tried the ff and it worked: s.match(new RegExp(/^\d{1,2}[ ]\w{3}[ ]\d{4}$/)); My question is what is the correct regex if I'm using dashes on PHP's date() i.e. d-M-Y? • Does Eclipse has a plugin for code clips like in Coda?

  There is a very useful "Clips" feature in Coda, do we have such thing in Eclipse? What it does is pretty simple, you save once a code clip which you use very often and assign it a shortcut and when you want to re-use it on editor you type the shortcut you assigned and it automatically pastes that code clip and sets caret position to the defined position. On the example here (second image) when i write 4dom and press TAB afterwards it types me this... jQuery(function($){ //puts cursor here }); Since it is a very useful feature i miss that one on Eclipse, is there a plugin for this? • Disappearing IE6 elements.

  I don't know what could be causing this issue, but for some reason, elements on my page (list navigation items, specifically), are disappearing in IE6. That is, from IE developer toolbar, I can see that the elements are there, and the DOM/css is correct, but the elements just aren't visible. The odd thing is that if you set or toggle ANY css element on the list items with the IE6 toolbar, the elements appear. I also have a hover() jQuery action set on the list navigation items, and the event fires as if the elements were visible and working correctly. What could possibly be going wrong here? I initially thought z-index could be an issue, but changing ANY attribute or css value (not necessarily z-index), causes the element to render. I should note, however, that doing this programmatically does not cause the elements to display properly, even if triggered seconds after the page load.

  Hi, i have a page with the main content area being big thumbnails, but elsewhere on the page are about 100-200 other (smaller) thumbs that are not important but must still show. What ways do i have to make the main ones show first (or the unimportant ones show last)? I was thinking of these ways: JS load: on page load (once it has finished loading), use a jquery's append() (or whatever other way) to write the html with the image code Set all unimportant images inside a div with style="display:none;". Then once the page has loaded, use JS to set it as visible what do you think is the best way?

• jqueryUI: Drag element from dialog and drop onto main page?

  I am trying to create a drag and drop system consisting of a workspace and a "palette". The workspace currently consists of re-orderable list items, and I want the palette to be a floating window from which I can drag items and add them to a specific position on the workspace. I am currently using the jqueryUI "sortable" plugin for the workspace and the jqueryUI "dialog" plugin for the palette. However, I cannot drag something out of the dialog and on to the main page. When I try, the item being dragged disappears as it crosses the boundary of the dialog (which makes sense). What can I change so that items will remain visible as I drag them out of the palette and allow me to drop them onto the main workspace? Alternatively, are there any jquery plugins that offer this sort of drag-n-drop palette as a primary feature?
