• What are possible/good ways to prototype iPhone applications?

  This is intentionally left broad. If you wanted to show users what iPhone/mobile applications could to for them. The more interactive the better, but it must be quick to build as you can't code up every idea. Let us assume real-time games are out of scope. Throw out ideas or state which approach would be best. Here are some of my ideas, what are yours? Hack a app that loads mostly web or image content, but has hyperlinks to get around in. This would mean static data. Build screens which look great but can only be navigated in a story board type fashion. Load the web version or equivalent on the iPhone and say: now image the buttons and navigation is better. A paper based prototype. Flash or video walk through running on the phone. String existing iPhone apps and web pages together with minimal glue just to convey the idea. Can anyone share prototyping methods for other mobile devices? Ex: The palm prototype was just a block of wood and note pad that was carried around.

• Orientation issue while presenting Modal ViewController

  Current scenario: Right now I am showing a UIViewController using a segue with the style Modal and presentation Sheet. This Modal gets its superview bounds change, in order to have the dimensions I want, like this: - (void)viewWillLayoutSubviews { [super viewWillLayoutSubviews]; self.view.superview.bounds = WHBoundsRect; } The only allowed orientations are UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft and UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight. Since the Modal has some TextFields and the keyboard would be over the Modal itself, I am changing its center so it moves a bit to the top. The problem: What I am noticing right now, is that I am unable to work with the Y coordinate. In order for it move vertically (remember it's on landscape) I need to work with the X. The problem is that when it's UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft I need to come with a negative X. And when it's UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight I need to come with a positive X. So it seems that the X/Y Coordinate System is "glued" to the top left corner while in Portrait and when an orientation occurs, it's still there: What I have done So I have something like this: UIInterfaceOrientation orientation = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] statusBarOrientation]; NSInteger newX = 0.0f; if (orientation == UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeLeft) { // Logic for calculating the negative X. } else { // Logic for calculating the positive X. } It works exactly like I want, but it seems a very fragile implementation. Am I missing something? Is this the expected behaviour?

• Chrome extension custom cursor

  Hi, I building an Google Chrome extension that place some IMG tag in sites. This img tag on :hover must show a custom cursor. The extension uses jQuery as its injected core script. I tried the following methods: 1. var cursor = 'url('+chrome.extension.getURL('icons/cursor.cur')+')'; $('#myImgId').css({ 'position': 'absolute', 'top':'5px', 'left':'5px', 'cursor':cursor }); This is the best working. On smaller sites its shows the cursor. On slower loading sites it does not. But on little sites it fails sometimes. 2. var cursor = 'url('+chrome.extension.getURL('icons/cursor.cur')+')'; $('<style>#myImgId{cursor:'+cursor+'}</style>').appendTo('head'); This did nothing at all. 3. In manifest.json I injected the css. "content_scripts": [ { "matches": ["http://*/*"], "css": ["css/style.css"], "js": ["j/c.js", "j/s.js"] } The css file just had the cursor:url(icons/cursor.cur) as I don't have idea, how to get real url in a css file. This isn't working at all. I think it must work like this, I didn't find reference for this on code.google though.

• How to know which image is being viewed in UIScrollView? Also, is it possible to loop scrolling for

  This is what I'm trying to do, and I'm not sure if it's possible using UIScrollView. First, I don't care about zooming, all I care is that the user is able to scroll through images just like the Photo App, this I got. But how do I know which image he is viewing while using UIScrollView? For instance, if he stops on the 3rd image out of 10 images in the view, how do I know he's on that image? I can't find a way to access the index (is this accessible)?? Also, bonus question, once the user scrolls to the last image, I don't want the scrolling to stop but I want it to loop so that image 1 comes after image 10. And vice versa, if you scroll left passed image 1, you'll see image 10. I'm not asking for the logic, I can do this in an array very simply, I just don't know how to access (if it's even possible) the indexing of the images in the scroll view. If it's not, does anyone have a solution to do this? thanks in advance!

• Modifying CSS class property values on the fly with JavaScript / jQuery

  all. I've run into a unique situation that I have so far been unable to find a solution for: dynamically assigning a value to a CSS style. I know how to use jQuery to assign width, height, etc. to an element, but what I'm trying to do is actually change the value defined in the stylesheet so that the dynamically-created value can be assigned to multiple elements. What I'm building is a slideshow of images that occupy the full viewport, recalculating the image's width, height, and left properties on resize so that the image is always centered, favors width over height, except when the viewport is taller than it is wide (resizing does not reload the page, just fires a function to resize the image). I have successfully been able to get it to work on one image, and now I'm trying to determine the best way to assign those property values to all images in the slideshow without having to specify those three things individually for every image. Can the values of properties in a class be modified on the fly? I'm sure the answer is out there, I'm probably just not using the correct terminology in my searches. Hope I did a good job of describing the problem. TIA.

• Determine target architecture of binary file in Linux (library or executable)

  We have an issue related to a Java application running under a (rather old) FC3 on a Advantech POS board with a Via C3 processor. The java application has several compiled shared libs that are accessed via JNI. Via C3 processor is suppossed to be i686 compatible. Some time ago after installing Ubuntu 6.10 on a MiniItx board with the same processor I found out that the previous statement is not 100% true. The Ubuntu kernel hanged on startup due to the lack of some specific and optional instructions of the i686 set in the C3 processor. These instructions missing in C3 implementation of i686 set are used by default by GCC compiler when using i686 optimizations. The solution in this case was to go with a i386 compiled version of Ubuntu distribution. The base problem with the Java application is that the FC3 distribution was installed on the HD by cloning from an image of the HD of another PC, this time an Intel P4. Afterwards the distribution needed some hacking to have it running such as replacing some packages (such as the kernel one) with the i383 compiled version. The problem is that after working for a while the system completely hangs without a trace. I am afraid that some i686 code is left somewhere in the system and could be executed randomly at any time (for example after recovering from suspend mode or something like that). My question is: Is there any tool or way to find out at what specific architecture is an binary file (executable or library) aimed provided that "file" does not give so much information?

  So, I have a macro to export data into CSV format and it's working great (Code at the bottom). The problem is the data I am putting into it. When I put the data in question in it comes out Firstname,Lastname,username,password,description I'd like to change it so I get Firstname Lastname,Firstname,Lastname,username,password,description What I'd like to do is manipulate my existing macro so to accomplish this. • What *is* an IPM.DistList?

  I'm trying to get the recipient addresses within an IPM.DistList that is stored in a public folder (of type contacts) in Exchange 2003. The typeName of the object (once I get hold of it) is a Message (with a parent object being a Messages collection) and the messageType is "IPM.DistList". I can find all sorts of things about IPM.DistListItems, which you would think an IPM.DistList would contain, but there apparently isn't any documentation on the DistList (that I can find) and DistListItems documentation lists no parent possibilities in MSDN. I'll state it another way in case I've left you confused: We have an Exchange 2003 info store with Public Folders. Within those Public Folders is a [sub]folder (that holds items of type "Contact") that has a bunch of distribution lists (IPM.DistList's) that have contact entries, members of the list essentially. I need to get the addresses of the members of the lists in the Public Folder sub-folder using any VB language, because the company I work for hired me as a VB guy and expects me to write VB solutions, even though I could do it in C++... alas, I digress. VB is the language I'm supposed to figure this out in. (.net, script, vba, vb6, it doesn't matter which one. Yes, I know vb.net is not really related to those that came before, but they don't know that.) Anyone ran into anything like this? Am I just not finding the IPM.DistList documentation but it does actually exist somewhere? This isn't a Message.MAPIOBJECT (iUnknown) problem is it? Thanks.... Jeremy

• Removing empty space with jQuery after deleting Selectable item

  I have two ordered lists and user can move items between them. I am using jQuery UI's Selectable for both of them. Problem is that when I move item from the middle of the list it leaves an empty space behind. How can I make list shrink according to the how many items is actually in the list? • A way to edit content by altering one file?

• Is it possible to embed a flash player in a table and retain the table properties

  I'd like to embed a music (flash) player in a table with clickable images but the embed code seems to throw the table properties off - it extends the width of the table. Is it possible to embed the player on the same row as the image whilst still retaining the table width? • Image jQuery scroller in a container. (like facebook cropper) can't get values of position.

  Hey all. Having a reallllll mind pain. I have a php image uploader which is all good and sotring the file and the jquery ajax is returning the image in an ammended html div with a div set up like this: #crop-holder { width:80px; height:80px; margin:10px 10px 20px 10px; border:1px #c0c0c0 solid; overflow:hidden; cursor:move; } The image is viewing fine and I am using the jquery scrollview plugin: http://code.google.com/p/jquery-scrollview/ I have tried adding a few lines to the plugin to store variables of scrollTop and Left and then replacing two hidden input values with x and y in my page. And then on the returned ajax html in the div I am trying to on a button click (for example) retrieve the values of the two hidden inputs.... Heres what i added to the plugin (i'm no js expert!): .mouseout(function(){ var _m = this.m; var lasty = _m.scrollTop(); getElementById("ycord").value = lasty; var lastx = _m.scrollLeft(); getElementById("xcord").value = lastx; self.stopgrab(); }) Still no luck!!   I have an array like this $sports = array( 'Softball - Counties', 'Softball - Eastern', 'Softball - North Harbour', 'Softball - South', 'Softball - Western' ); and i would like to find the longest common part of the string so in this instance, it would be 'Softball - '; I am thinking that I would follow the this process $i = 1; // loop to the length of the first string while ($i < strlen($sports[0]) { // grab the left most part up to i in length $match = substr($sports[0], 0, $i); // loop through all the values in array, and compare if they match foreach ($sports as $sport) { if ($match != substr($sport, 0, $i) { // didn't match, return the part that did match return substr($sport, 0, $i-1); } } // foreach // increase string length $i++; } // while // if you got to here, then all of them must be identical Questions is there a built in function or much simpler way of doing this ? for my 5 line array that is probably fine, but if i were to do several thousand line arrays, there would be a lot of overhead, so i would have to be move calculated with my starting values of $i, eg $i = halfway of string, if it fails, then $i/2 until it works, then increment $i by 1 until we succeed. so that we are doing the least number of comparisons to get a result If there a formula/algorithm out already out there for this kind of problem ? thanks alex

• How can I correctly calculate the direction for a moving object?

  I'm solving the following problem: I have an object and I know its position now and its position 300ms ago. I assume the object is moving. I have a point to which I want the object to get. What I need is to get the angle from my current object to the destination point in such a format that I know whether to turn left or right. The idea is to assume the current angle from the last known position and the current position. I'm trying to solve this in MATLAB. I've tried using several variations with atan2 but either I get the wrong angle in some situations (like when my object is going in circles) or I get the wrong angle in all situations. Examples of code that screws up: a = new - old; b = dest - new; alpha = atan2(a(2) - b(2), a(1) - b(1); where new is the current position (eg. x = 40; y = 60; new = [x y];), old is the 300ms old position and dest is the destination point. Edit Here's a picture to demonstrate the problem with a few examples: In the above image there are a few points plotted and annotated. The black line indicates our estimated current facing of the object. If the destination point is dest1 I would expect an angle of about 88°. If the destination point is dest2 I would expect an angle of about 110°. If the destination point is dest3 I would expect an angle of about -80°.

• DNS protocol message example

  hello there, I am trying to figure out how to send out DNS messages from an application socket adapter to a DNSBL. I spent the last two days understanding the basics, including experimenting with WireShark to catch an example of message exchanged. Now I would like to query the DNS without using dig or host command (I'm using Ubuntu); how can I perform this action at low level, without the help of these tools in wrapping the request in a proper DNS message format? How the message should be post it? Hex or String? Thanks in advance for any help. Regards Alessandro Ilardo Comment added I am investigating on JDev and Oracle SOA. The platform provides a Socket Adapter which simply apply a transformation (XSLT) and send the message straight to the socket. How the payload parameters (ex. the host I'm looking up) are wrapped within the message is left to the developer. So basically I have an idea on how the all DNS message is structured, but rather than put everything on JDev stright away I'd like to make some tests on my own just to make sure I got a valid message format. So, I am not using any specific language (I don't even understand why they moved my question from serverfault) and I don't want to use any tools which would hide part of the message, such as the header. I know they work well btw. I guess this stuff has something to do with packet injection. Someone suggested me to use telnet, but I've only used for SMTP or HTTP, I haven't got a clue on how it works for DNS request. Does it make more sense now?

I already have working code but I feel/know that I'm not doing it the right way, so I come here for some enlightenment. Note: Please do not reply that there's already something out there that does the trick as I already know that. My interest in this matter is rather educational. What my code is intended to do (and does): Limit the characters of a textfield and change the color of the counter when the user is approaching the end.   I am using HTML Agility Pack to parse html content. I am using parsing to extract table information. It works. But if there is no ending "/tr" tag or "/td" tag then it does not parse that information perfectly.(in which there is no ending tr tag or td tag.) • CodeIgniter: problem using foreach in view

  I have a model and controller who gets some data from my database and returns the following array Array ( [2010] => Array ( [year] => 2010 [months] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [sales] => 2 [month] => Apr ) [1] => stdClass Object ( [sales] => 1 [month] => Nov ) ) ) [2011] => Array ( [year] => 2011 [months] => Array ( [0] => stdClass Object ( [sales] => 1 [month] => Nov ) ) ) ) It shows exactly what it should show but the key's have different names so I have no idea on how to loop through the years using foreach in my view. • PHP IF stops IE content from loading

  scenario I have a PHP if statement to test if a user is logging in for the first time ever. This then displays, a demo in a greybox popup box. Sadly when the box loads in IE, the content of the website doesn't. This means when I user closes the box, they are left the with background.
