• command design pattern usage

  Hi. I've read 3 descriptions of the command design pattern: wikipedia, dofactory and source making. In all of them, the UML shows a relation between the client to the receiver & the concrete command, but no relation to the invoker. But in all 3 examples the client is the one that initiates the invoker and call its Execute method. I think that should be a relation to the invoker as well. Am I missing somthing in here? Maybe even a basic UML knowladge?

  Hi, I stumbled upon a rather exotic c++ namespace problem: condensed example: extern "C" { void solve(lprec * lp); } class A { public: lprec * lp; void solve(int foo); } void A::solve(int foo) { solve(lp); } I want to call the c funcition solve in my C++ member function A::solve. The compiler is not happy with my intents: error C2664: 'lp_solve_ilp::solve' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'lprec *' to 'int' Is there something I can prefix the solve function? • Changing gmail Settings with Ruby

  I need to configure my gmail account(s) programmatically with Ruby. I checked out the apps api and it looks like the simplest possible solution would be to use ClientLogin for logging in and a simple XML PUT for changing the forwarding setting, for example. I wrote a little test script like so: http://gist.github.com/373457 It would appear that the call to ClientLogin works because it comes back with an Auth= token. When it sends the PUT request to google, however, it comes back with a RestClient::Unauthorized exception. I rewrote the script with pure net/https and it turns out the message I'm getting is invalid token, yet I can't figure out what is wrong with my token. Can anyone else see it?

• Creating a Non-Databound Report in Winforms

  I am using Visual Studio 2008 and all the components that come with it as well as Infragisitics for Winforms. I need to design a label that will print to a label printer. None of the controls are databound and will most likely be set in code eg/Label.Text = "My Heading"; as there will be minimal information on the label. One piece of information is a barcode so I need the functionality to do that, I assume I can just set the font of the label to barcode and it will do its thing. Can I just add a Crystal Report to a form design it, set the label text properties in code, tell it what printer to print to and then call report.Print(); I've had a quick go and seems not as easy as I thought. Now, my problem is that I have to find a way till all the method execution gets completed and do my next operation. How can I handle this? I cannot modify the third-party API. • Is there any way to store full size image returned from camera activity in internal memory ?

  I am using Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT,Uri.fromFile(externalFileObj)); intent to call default camera activity. To get full image you need to specify intent.putExtra(). But this always requires URI that works only for external storage files. I tried to create a temp.jpg image in internal memory and pass its URI Uri.fromFile(new File(getFilesDir() + "/temp.jpg")); but the camera activity won't return back after the image is captured. So there is no way to get Full size image from default camera application in our activity without using any external storage ? Assuming that the device do not have SD card or currently in use is there no way I can avoid using it ? Yes I know we can create our own camerapreview surface but I want to use the default camera application as it is natural with many more options. Thanks.

• ASP NET forms Authorization: how to reduce duration?

  I've got a web page which is implementing cookie based ASPNET Forms Authentication. Once the user has logged in the page, he can edit some information using a form which is created using a partialview and returned to him as a dialog for editing. The action linked to the partial view is decorated as follows: [HttpGet] [OutputCache(Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] [Authorize(Roles = "test")] public ActionResult changeTripInfo(int tripID, bool ovride=false) { ... } The problem i am experiencing is the latency between the request and the time when the dialog is shown to the user: time ranges between 800 and 1100 ms which is not justified by the complexity of the form. Investigating with Glimpse turns out that the time to process the AuthorizeAttribute (see snip) sums up to at least 650 ms which is troubling me. Looking at the Sql server log, the call which checks the user roles takes, as expected, virtually nothing (duration 0). How can I reduce this time? Am I missing some optimization?

  We have a PHP web app running on a customer's machine. For an update, we have a bit of code in C that we'd like to include as a native opaque library along with the PHP web app. How does one go about calling a C/C++ lib. function from PHP? It cannot be assumed that the PHP app, called by the web server, has any sort of permission to call an exec(), eval(), or system() type of function to execute a C wrapper driver which in turn uses the C/C++ library, so it would need to be a direct C library use from within the PHP code.

  I tried using a free script that I found on the Internet but it is giving me problems with Windows users (even though they are using IE 8, so it's not an option for me to ask them to upgrade their browsers.) Here's the requirements: I have a bunch of Microsoft Word and pdf files that need to be protected so that only authorized users can download them. I have already created the login system and the current script I have works fine for non-IE browsers. However, I keep getting recurring problems with Windows users who keep complaining that their files download corrupt and yet everyone else either using Mac or Linux or any other browser gets on just fine. The script must allow me to store files in a directory but force download of the file upon the function call. Must work well with most major browsers, especially I.E. If you have any practice suggestions or know of any great scripts (even if they are paid, I'm sick of this problem and would probably pay for a paid script) it would be greatly appreciated in advance.

• Is this possible with OpenGL?

  Basically what I'd like to do is make textured NGONS. I also want to use a tesselator (GLU) to make concave and multicontour objects. I was wondering how the texture comes into play though. I think that the tesselator will return verticies so I will add these to my array, that's fine. But my vertex array will contain more than one polygon object so then how can I tell it when to bind the texture like in immediate mode? Right now I feel stuck with one call to bind. How can this be done? Thanks

  Ok, using SQL Server 2008. On my web page I have a textbox with jQuery-UI AutoComplete hooked up. Now I need a stored procedure to search across all columns of a single table(or multiple joined tables I suppose) for a search string coming from the textbox/autocomplete AJAX call, and return "suggested" search strings. I am using the AdventureWorks db for testing(Products table) So for example, the product table has columns for product name and product number(among others) and I want to return suggested search strings based on user input where they may enter a product name and/or a product number. I have it working across a single column which was simple. Any ideas?

• Wordpress parses wp_posts.post_content before rendering?

  I noticed that when I call the the_post() or the_content() function from my wordpress template, it automatically parses the database data to replace new lines with <br/>, wraps the text with <p> tags etc...There's probably some kind of "format" function within the_post() or the_content(). I wrote a query to directly get posts from the wp_posts. I then print it out like <?php $results = $wp->get_results($sql) foreach($results as $row) echo $row->post_content; ?> Clearly, this data is not parsed by wordpress' "format" function. What is the proper way to output this content such that it undergoes the same "formatting" functions as the_post() or the_content()?

• jQuery after show() assumes that display:inline is :hidden. Why?

  With jQuery 1.4.2, :hidden filter is not filtering out elements that were hidden, but i've made then visible by calling show(). Filter assumes it is still hidden. Is this bug or am i missing something?   I am profiling an iPhone app and I noticed a strange pattern. In a certain block of code that's called quite frequently... [item setQuadrant:[NSNumber numberWithInt:a]]; [item setIndex:[NSNumber numberWithInt:b]]; [item setTimestamp:[NSNumber numberWithInt:c]]; [item setState:[NSNumber numberWithInt:d]]; [item setCompletionPercentage:[NSNumber numberWithInt:e]]; [item setId_:[NSNumber numberWithInt:f]]; ...the first call to [NSNumber numberWithInt:] takes an inordinate amount of time, in the order of 10-15x that of the remaining calls. I've verified that the results are consistent if I shuffle the lines (the first line is always the slow one, by the same ratio). Is there something going on that I'm not aware of? Perhaps this happens because this block is inside a try/catch?

• Under what circumstances would a Ruby $LOAD_PATH be acquired from a parent process?

  In my cucumber scenarios, if I call rake db:schema:load within a target Rails app folder, I get the cucumber process's $LOAD_PATH and not the Rails app's own Gemfile/load path. I think this is very weird. The consequence is that I get the following error: no such file to load -- rails/all I can't reproduce it outside of my cucumber scenario. ruby -rubygems -e "system 'rake -T'" works normally - the 'rake -T' has the application's own Gemfile-based $LOAD_PATH; and doesn't generate the error above. Can anyone think why a child process (rake -T or rake db:schema:load or rails runner...; invoked by either system, exec, %x[...] or backtick; would start with the parent processes' $LOAD_PATH (from the cucumber scenario's Gemfile) instead of its own $LOAD_PATH (from the Rails app's Gemfile)?

  I have a wxWidgets application that has a wxStyledTextCtrl. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get notified of modification events. When I run the application and press a key, the message box displays 1040 and 8209. When I call SetText the same two messages are displayed. How can I differentiate between user events and programmatically-generated events?

• How to deal with callback to your UIController after your UIController unloads?

  Suppose your controller is a table view and one of the cells you are going off to do a length task (say download a thumbnail) to be viewed in the cell. Typically you would have the network call do a callback to your controller when it is done downloading. The callback can then reload the table or do some other form of UI update (hides a spinner etc). However, what if the controller is unloaded? Say the user navigated away from this controller and it got released? What happens? Will the callback still work despite the controller now not in memory? Also, if the callback operates on some objects (say the UITableView) what happens when the controller is deallocated? I suppose the controller can release all the objects and the callback would just be calling methods on nil to prevent crash. But is this the convention?

• Delay the display of image loaded using jquery + ajax

  I am using the following code : $.ajax({ url: "pgiproxy.php", data: ({ data : $("#formdata").serialize(), mode : "graph"}), success: function(result){ var temp = $('<div/>').html(result); var val = temp.find('center').html(); $('#BFX').html(val); }, error: function(){ $("#error").html("ERROR !!!"); } }); The 'result' from the ajax call to 'pgiproxy.php' is a whole web page (returned as a string), this is then converted to a jQuery object and stored in 'var'. I then extract the data I need (a .gif image) using .find() which is stored in 'val'. This image is then inserted into a #BFX div for display. My problem is every successive time I click my button to update this image it shows the image loading from top to bottom as it is reading it in from the web. Is there a way to only display this image once it has fully loaded so the user doesnt see the image loading and only sees the image change instantly.
