  The code below works great. If the Get and Use methods are in different assemblies, the code fails with a RuntimeBinderException. This is because the .Net runtime system only guarantees commonality of anonymous types (<string, int> in this case) within assemblies. Is there any way to fool the runtime system to overcome this? • Unable to connect to a local MYSQL server on wireles LAN.

  Ok, Here is the technical description. My laptop's config: Ip Adress:192.168.2.5 Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306 Operating system: Ubuntu jaunty (9.04) 3306 is open for both incoming and outgoing. My friend's laptop config: Ip Adress:192.168.2.4 Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306 Operating system: Windows XP pro 3306 is open for both incoming and outgoing. Both are on a wireless LAN connected through a belkin router (192.168.2.1) Both the MYSQL servers have been given the sufficient GRANT privileges. I am also able to connect from 192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.5's MYSQL instance but the vice versa is not happening. I am getting an (100061) error. Tried Telnetting on 3306; again happening from 192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.5 but not the vice versa. Am I doing something wrong? Kindly suggest.

  Hello everybody, I am trying to read the output of a shell command into a string buffer, the reading and adding the values is ok except for the fact that the added values are every second line in the shell output. for example, I have 10 rows od shell output and this code only stores the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, row .   uploading multiple files from client to server with asp.net I have been looking at the asp.net upload control but that is for one file (unless someone knows a better way to do it). http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.fileupload.aspx For what I want to do I don't even really need a browse. I know the files off of the client are at a certain location. Is it possible to create a collection of *HttpPostedFile*s and upload those? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.httppostedfile.aspx I don't think it is possible but would be glad to be proven wrong. Is there a different asp.net method or control that will easily allow uploading multiple files from client to server?

• Interaction between Java and Android

  I am currently trying to research how to use Android with an existing java based system. Basically, I need to communicate to/from an Android application. The system currently passes object data from computer to computer using ActiveMQ as the JMS provider. On one of the computers is a display which shows object data to the user. What we want to do now is use a phone (running Android) as another option to show this object data to a user with wifi/network access. Ideally we would like to have a native application on the Android that would listen to the ActiveMQ topic and publish to another Topic and read/write/display the object data, but from some research I have done, I am not sure if this is possible. What are some other ways to approach this problem? The android Phone needs to be able to send/receive data. I have been using the AndroidEmulator for testing.

• OpenMP + SSE gives no speedup

  Hi, My Professor found out this interesting experiment of 3D Linearly separable Kernel Convolution using SSE and OpenMP, and gave the task to me to benchmark the statistics on our system. The author claims a crazy 18 fold speedup from the serial approach! Might not be always, but we were expecting at least a 2-4 times speedup running this on a Dual Core Intel. http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/16bit-3d-convolution-sse4openmp-implementation-on-penryn-cpu/#comment-41994 Alas, we could find exactly no speedup. The serial code performs always better, with or without OpenMP. I am using Linux, and observed a certain trend...when no other processes are running on the system, after a while the loadavg starts increasing, and the the %CPU utilization falls down. Another probable false positive which I ran into accidentally...I started the program, then immediately paused it. Then I ran it on background with bg, and saw a speedup of more than 2.   I'm newish to the python ecosystem, and have a question about module editing. I use a bunch of third-party modules, distributed on PyPi. Coming from a C and Java background, I love the ease of easy_install <whatever>. This is a new, wonderful world, but the model breaks down when I want to edit the newly installed module for two reasons: The egg files may be stored in a folder or archive somewhere crazy on the file system. Using an egg seems to preclude using the version control system of the originating project, just as using a debian package precludes development from an originating VCS repository. What is the best practice for installing modules from an arbitrary VCS repository? I want to be able to continue to import foomodule in other scripts.

• Is it possible to run a MIDP application under Android

  The Google Market offers an application purporting to run J2ME MIDP applications on the Nexus One. I have tried this application but it only appears to run MIDP applications that are downloaded from particular web sites; it does not seem capable of picking up a MIDP application that is stored on the SD card in the phone. I have suggested to the developers that they might like to add such functionality, but they have not been particularly responsive to my messages. So I would like to build my own MIDP runner for Android and would like to see if I can find a pointer as to where to start, or even whether this is possible. The MIDP application in question was supplied on CD along with a security camera system and permits remote viewing and remote control over the security system. Clearly it wasn't built with the Android platform in mind. However, if it is possible somehow to run MIDP applications on Android (perhaps by creating some kind of sandbox environment for example) then I'd be quite keen to develop it.

  When looking at the Contact Groups on Google Contacts or in the People application of my HTC Legend phone, I get the groups names ok eg: Friends, Family, VIP, Favorite etc...   I am using a WebBrowser-Control to fill in a webform and then click at a button, this currently results in a standard Download File Dialog (you get these if you download a file using internet explorer), but instead, I have to catch this file and save it automatically with a by me defined name to a specific folder. I am trying to code a little application in vb.net which download the Export-file from my wordpress-blog, and I want to do this completely without user-interaction. Currently everything works, except the downloading of the file. I tried to catch it with the event System.Windows.Controls.WebBrowser.Navigating(ByVal Object, ByVal System.Windows.Navigation.NavigatingCancelEventArgs) but I don't see where to download the file from :( I hope you guys can help me.

• Simple HTTP Framework and time issue

  I'm using Simple Framework for my recent project, and there is a problem with the date headers generated by the system. I can get my local time from Date class correctly, but setDate method of Simple's Response class sets date in milliseconds and when i do that by calling System.currentTimeInMillis, dates in response headers are incorrect. is there any way to solve this problem with Simple Framework? If not, what can i do except calling set method with a date string? Thanks in advance... EDIT: Date in the headers are in wrong timezone. And i also tried Calendar.getInstance().getTimeInMilis() method.

• Raise the time-out for a single webservice

  My web configuration looks as follows: <system.web> <compilation debug="false"/> <httpRuntime executionTimeout="90"/> </system.web> This is fine for most webservices but one webservice has a query that is running a very long (5 minutes) time and will be stopped before it has finished. Is it possible to set the runtime to 5 minutes for this webservice alone? I've thought about running the database query async (fire and forget) but it doesn't seem possible with sybase/oracle through ODBC.

• Passing row from UIPickerView to integer CoreData attribute

  I'm missing something here, and feeling like an idiot about it. I'm using a UIPickerView in my app, and I need to assign the row number to a 32-bit integer attribute for a Core Data object. To do this, I am using this method: -(void)pickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView didSelectRow:(NSInteger)row inComponent:(NSInteger)component { object.integerValue = row; } This is giving me a warning: warning: passing argument 1 of 'setIntegerValue:' makes pointer from integer without a cast What am I mixing up here? --EDIT 1-- Ok, so I can get rid of the errors by changing the method to do the following: NSNumber *number = [NSNumber numberWithInteger:row]; object.integerValue = rating; However, I still get a value of 0 for object.integerValue if I use NSLog to print it out. object.integerValue has a max value of 5, so I print out number instead, and then I'm getting a number above 62,000,000. Which doesn't seem right to me, since there are 5 rows. If I NSLog the row variable, I get a number between 0 and 5. So why do I end up with a completely different number after casting the number to NSNumber?

  Hello all, I need my linq to sql datacontext to be available across my business/data layer for all my repository objects to access. However since this is a web app, I want to create and destroy it per request. I'm wondering if having a singleton class that can lazily create and attach the datacontext to current HttpContext would work. My question is: would the datacontext get disposed automatically when the request ends? Below is the code for what I'm thinking.   I'm using Fedex's web services and getting an annoying error right up front before I can actually get anywhere. There was an error in serializing body of message addressValidationRequest1: 'Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1). error CS0030: Cannot convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' error CS0029: Cannot implicitly convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' '. Please see InnerException for more details. I'm using .NET 3.5 and get a horrible named class generated for me (I'm not sure why it isn't just AddressValidationService): AddressValidationPortTypeClient addressValidationService = new ...; on this class I make my web service call: addressValidationService.addressValidation(request); This is when I get this error. The only references I can find to this error come from ancient 1.1 projects. In my case my DLL has references to System.Web and System.Web.Services which seemed to be an issue back then.

I get the following error from this code: from subprocess import Popen pipe = Popen(cwd) pipe.communicate( data ) For an arbitrary cwd, and where data that contains unicode (specifically 0xE9): Exec. exception: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xe9' in position 507: ordinal not in range(128) Traceback (most recent call last): ... stdout, stderr = pipe.communicate( data ) File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/subprocess.py", line 671, in communicate return self._communicate(input) File "/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/subprocess.py", line 1177, in _communicate bytes_written = os.write(self.stdin.fileno(), chunk) This is happening, I presume, because pipe.communicate() is expecting ASCII encoded string, but data is unicode. • Why does mysqldump need to be fully pathed when called from a controller or model?

  When I call mysqldump from a controller or model I need to fully path the binary, when I call it from Rake I don't need to. If I do not fully path I get a zero byte file... I can confirm both processes are run using the same user. # Works in a controller, model and Rake task system "/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqldump -u root #{w.database_name} > #{target_file}" # Only works in a Rake task system "mysqldump -u root #{w.database_name} > #{target_file}" If I call the Rake task from the action it also fails (zero byte file). OS: Mac Ruby 1.8.6 EDIT: I use Etc.getpwuid(Process.uid).name to get the User of the current process
