• How to access the SD card through my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Phone?

  I have a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc phone and I cannot access its SD card through the USB cable provided. I have set the USB connection mode to MSC yet when I connect the phone to my computer I cannot see the SD card (or anything for that matter). The Disk Utility however, does see an SEMC Mass Storage device but it says that no media was detected. I have validated that the SD card works as I removed it from the camera and plugged it into a card reader and saw all the photos and files stored on it. I have validated that the phone works as I have connected it (in MSC mode) to my wife's Windows 7 computer. Can anyone please tell me how I can access the SD card on my phone.

• Why don't my Google Analytics custom segmentation visit numbers match up?

  I have three main areas of my site and want to track total usage as well as breakdowns of the three parts. I am trying to segment the "type" of use on each page using a custom variable as such: ['_setCustomVar',1,'Visitor Type','Unknown',1] Visitor type can be one of three values: "Unknown", "Reader" or "publisher". Every page has this value set. Now when I look at my analytics chart and chose all three segments, the individual values do not match the sum. I've double checked the pages to make sure the custom var is there.

  Let's say I have an xml file which looks like this <Weapons> <Weapon> <Name>Pistol</Name> ... </Weapon> <Weapon> <Name>MachineGun</Name> ... </Weapon> </Weapons> Would it be possible to use a custom importer/writer/reader to create two files, Pistol.xnb and MachineGun.xnb which I can load individually with Content.Load()? While writing this I realized I could just import a Weapon[] list and split them up with a helper, but I'm still wondering if this is possible?

  It’s finally here: the Kindle app for Windows Phone 7! Finally we can have our books on the go as well! It’s not sitting atop the “new” list on the WP7 marketplace though. I had to go to the Books section of the marketplace, and there its set to the top spot of free apps. I’m going to read the next chapter in my current book on it to see what the experience is like. After playing quickly with it, here’s some observations: - You flip pages going left to right, not up and down. No setting to change this if you don’t like it. - Good options for changing font size, background colour, and setting bookmarks. - *No* option for highlighting though. However, previous highlights do show up and you can review notes made in other programs Still, for a free Kindle reader and the ability to catch up on books wherever on the phone, so far so good!

• Windows not shown in Grub after installing 12.10

  I just installed 12.10 alongside Windows 7. I split my partition into two because disk reader during the installation didn't recognize Windows 7 as being installed on the computer. It installed correctly and I restarted only to find out it wasn't recognized in Grub also and booted straight to Ubuntu. I read this post and thought of using boot-repair would be fine but I gain this error: gpt detected. Please create bios-boot partition (>1MB, unformed filesystem, bios_grub flag). This can be performed via tools such as Gparted. Then try again. I've no idea what it means or what to do next. Suggestions would be appreciated and I have lost my Windows installation disk and I really don't want to have to go looking for it.

  Hello, I am trying to simplify a process where I currently use my hand calculations of X & Y Co-Ordinates of each value. Which works fine, but is causing me a lot of pain as I have to do quite a number of PDF's. I know that I can open a PDF and insert "input fields" within Adobe Acrobat Pro, which it would be great if I could use PHP to connect to those input fields and insert a value from a PHP Form. WORKFLOW:: PHP FORM PHP PROCESSING ENGINE TO FINAL PDF WITH FORM VALUES IN THE LOCATION OF THE ADOBE INPUT FIELDS. If someone has some information on something like this it would be much appreciated.

It works, but the margins seem much wider than when I view the same PDF using a Acrobat Reader or the Mac's Preview, and that consequently scales the content down much smaller than it otherwise would be. Is my code actually causing this behavior?   I have a PDF form (made in Acrobat) that has button to submit via HTTP. What I want to do it have a PHP script that will take the PDF form and e-mail it to me via attachment. What I don't want: --PDF Submit via e-mail button. This requires webmail users to save the pdf and attach it, and is just too confusing for most users. I want one-click and done. --Submit via mailto:[email protected]. Does the same thing as above. If there's a pdf on the server, I know how to use PHP's mail() function to e-mail it to someone. What I don't know how to do is process the PDF once someone hits Submit within the PDF. Does that make sense? Thanks, Jeff

  Hi-- I'm seeing some strange behavior from some dynamically generated PDFs using the TCPDF library in PHP. Standard lamp stack-- however, if you try to open the PDF from Windows with Acrobat Reader, it gives an error that the "file is damaged and could not be repaired". From Mac, Linux, etc. the file works fine, and opens fine. It also opens fine in Google Docs-- so clearly the PDF itself is ok. Is it possible that the mime type (application/pdf) is causing problems in Windows? Thanks

  I have a process that creates form data in the form of an .fdf file that then has a reference to the .pdf document that is its "parent". is it possible with any .NET process to save that .pdf file (populated with the data that came in from the .fdf)? I need this because I need to email the fully populated .pdf documents out. I've been just sending the .fdfs with fully qualified links to the pdfs, but some people are having problems with it and I'd rather just go full-blown pdf if I can do it. FYI, my server does have a licensed copy of Acrobat installed if that matters....

• Merging two templates in iText

  Let's say I have two PDF templates created with Adobe Acrobat, which are both single-page, 8.5x11 documents. The first template (A.pdf) has content for the top half of the page. The second template (B.pdf) has content for the bottom half of the page. (It just so happens the content in both templates does not "overlap" each other.) I would like to use iText to take these two templates and create a single, "merged" template from it (C.pdf) that is only a single page (with A.pdf's content on the top half and B.pdf's content on the bottom half). (I do not want to "merge" these two files into a 2-page document. I need the final product to be a single page.) I will be running iText in a servlet environment (Tomcat 6) but I don't think that makes a difference to the answer. Is this possible?

My PDF requires many exactly horizontal/vertical lines in a grid and when rendered they are anti-aliased and look very fuzzy and unacceptable to the client. I need to remove the anti-aliasing for these(or all) lines in the doc. • Obey the MediaBox/CropBox in PDF when using ghostscript to render a PDF to a png

  I've been using ghostscript to convert my single figure plots rendered in PDF to png: gswin32c -sDEVICE=png16m -r300x300 -sOutputFile=junk.png -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE Figure_001-a.pdf This works in the sense I get a png out and it contians the plot. But it contains a huge amount of white space as well (an example source image: http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1258681/files/Figure_001-a.pdf). If you view it in Acrobat you'll note there is no white space around the plot. If you use the above command line you'll find the plot is only about 1/3 of the space. When doing the same thing with an eps file I run into the same problem. However, there is the command-line parameter -dEPSCrop that one can pass to get the PS rendering engine to pay attention to the BoundingBox. I need the similar argument for rendering PDF's. I was not able to find it in docs (nor even the EPSCrop, actually).

  I recently used Adobe Acrobat Pro's OCR feature to process a Japanese kanji dictionary. The overall quality of the output is generally quite a bit better than I'd hoped, but word boundaries in the English portions of the text have often been lost. For example, here's one line from my file: softening;weakening(ofthemarket)8 CHANGE [transform] oneselfINTO,takethe form of; disguise oneself I could go around and insert the missing word boundaries everywhere, but this would be adding to what is already a substantial task. I'm hoping that there might exist software which can analyze text like this, where some of the words run together, and split the text on probable word boundaries. Is there such a package? I'm using Emacs, so it'd be extra-sweet if the package in question were already an Emacs package or could be readily integrated into Emacs, so that I could simply put my cursor on a line like the above and repeatedly invoke some command that splits the line on word boundaries in decreasing order of probable correctness.

  I'm looking for a way to generate PDF files using the standard PrintDocument and Graphics (GDI) classes in .NET. As far as I know, the only way to do that is by printing to a PDF printer. The problem is that a PDF printer driver always asks for a filename, but I need to control the filename from my code. Using a PDF library like PDFSharp or DynamicPDF is not an option, because they all provide their own API for generating PDF files. I need this for an internal application, so dependencies are not a problem. My question is simple: is there a way to control a printer driver (Adobe Acrobat, PDFCreator, ...) in such a way that a filename can be specified and the user is not prompted for anything?

• ASP.net - Crystal Reports exporting to PDF adds the letter "i" to certain words randomly

  We are using Crystal Reports to generate pdf's of customer bills (from a CR template). It works fine except the engine seems to be adding the letter "i" to random words in the output. Certain alignment problems are also evident (words overlapping etc). Standard fonts are being used. We are using .net 4 and C# linked to the 10.5 CR assemblies. Latest version of Adobe Acrobat reader is installed on the server. We have now tried this via 12.2 CR assemblies with the same results. We have also tried multiple .rpt files with the same results.

  PREFACE: Yes we're moving away from VSS in the next few months. One of my web projects contains, as one of its files, a PDF. The PDF on our QA site is being pulled from VSS. A QA tester recently told me he's being prompted for a password when he tries to open it. VSS says the file I have on disk is different than the one it has, so I updated it, but afterwards it's still being shown as different. So basically VSS is mangling my PDF and the results are so wobbly that Adobe Acrobat Reader is confused and thinks it has a password. I've tried adding it as Auto-Detect and as Binary. Same results. Why does my PDF ask for a password after being retrieved from Visual SourceSafe and how can I prevent it?

  I have two operations that I do all the time in Emacs: Create a new buffer and paste the clipboard. [C-S-n] Close the current buffer. [C-S-w] Switch to the last viewed buffer [C-TAB] I feel like a keyboard acrobat when doing the first two operations. I think it would be worth trying some custom keybindings and macros. A few questions about this customization: How would I make a macro for #1? Are these good keybindings (i know this is a bit subjective, but they might be used by something popular that I don't use) Has anyone found a Ctrl-Tab macro that will act like Alt-Tab in Linux/Windows? Specifically, I want it have a stack of buffers according to the last viewed timestamp (most recent on top). I want to continue cycling through the stack until I let go of the ctrl key. When the ctrl key is released, I want the current buffer to get an updated position on the stack.

  b=10; while(a=b) { b--; if(b==-10)break; } B goes from 10 to -10. In my world, the while-statement, a=b, should always be true (since the assigment always "goes well"). That is not the case. When the loop stops, b will have a value of 0. In my world, it should pass 0 and go all the way to -10, when the if-statement kicks in. Have I misunderstood something major? • UAC being turned off once a day on Windows 7

  I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. Actually, this does not happen if it happened once on a specific day. For example, when I start the machine in the morning, it shows up; but it never shows up in the subsequent restarts within that day. On the next day, the same thing happens again. I never disable UAC, but obviously some rootkit or virus causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I can't fix it. First, I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus and malware/rootkit activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. I went to an old Restore Point using Windows System Restore, but the problem was not solved. What I have tried so far (which couldn't find the rootkit): TrendMicro OfficeScan Antivirus AVAST Malwarebytes' Anti-malware Ad-Aware Vipre Antivirus GMER TDSSKiller (Kaspersky Labs) HiJackThis RegRuns UnHackMe SuperAntiSpyware Portable Tizer Rootkit Razor (*) Sophos Anti-Rootkit SpyHunter 4 There are no other strange activities on the machine. 8204 bytes As suggested in this very similar question, I have run full scans (+boot time scans) with RegRun and UnHackMe, but they also did not find anything. I have carefully examined all entries in the Event Viewer, but there's nothing wrong. Now I know that there is a hidden trojan (rootkit) on my machine which seems to disguise itself quite successfully. Note that I don't have the chance to remove the HDD, or reinstall the OS as this is a work machine subjected to certain IT policies on a company domain. Despite all my attempts, the problem still remains. I strictly need a to-the-point method or a pukka rootkit remover to remove whatever it is. I don't want to monkey with the system settings, i.e. disabling auto runs one by one, messing the registry, etc. EDIT 2: I have found an article which is closely related to my trouble: Malware can turn off UAC in Windows 7; “By design” says Microsoft. • QR Code encoding and decoding using zxing

  Okay, so I'm going to take the off chance that someone here has used zxing before. I'm developing a Java application, and one of the things it needs to do is encode a byte array of data into a QR Code and then decode it at a later time. When I try to run these two blocks of code together, this is the output: 48454c4c4f 202b0b78cc00ec11ec11ec11ec11ec11ec11ec Clearly the text is being encoded, but the actual bytes of data are completely off.
