  • ASP.net roles and Projects

    - by Zyphrax
    EDIT - Rewrote my original question to give a bit more information Background info At my work I'm working on a ASP.Net web application for our customers. In our implementation we use technologies like Forms authentication with MembershipProviders and RoleProviders. All went well until I ran into some difficulties with configuring the roles, because the roles aren't system-wide, but related to the customer accounts and projects. I can't name our exact setup/formula, because I think our company wouldn't approve that... What's a customer / project? Our company provides management information for our customers on a yearly (or other interval) basis. In our systems a customer/contract consists of: one Account: information about the Company per Account, one or more Products: the bundle of management information we'll provide per Product, one or more Measurements: a period of time, in which we gather and report the data Extranet site setup Eventually we want all customers to be able to access their management information with our online system. The extranet consists of two sites: Company site: provides an overview of Account information and the Products Measurement site: after selecting a Measurement, detailed information on that period of time The measurement site is the most interesting part of the extranet. We will create submodules for new overviews, reports, managing and maintaining resources that are important for the research. Our Visual Studio solution consists of a number of projects. One web application named Portal for the basis. The sites and modules are virtual directories within that application (makes it easier to share MasterPages among things). What kind of roles? The following users (read: roles) will be using the system: Admins: development users :) (not customer related, full access) Employees: employees of our company (not customer related, full access) Customer SuperUser: top level managers (full access to their account/measurement) Customer ContactPerson: primary contact (full access to their measurement(s)) Customer Manager: a department manager (limited access, specific data of a measurement) What about ASP.Net users? The system will have many ASP.Net users, let's focus on the customer users: Users are not shared between Accounts SuperUser X automatically has access to all (and new) measurements User Y could be Primary contact for Measurement 1, but have no role for Measurement 2 User Y could be Primary contact for Measurement 1, but have a Manager role for Measurement 2 The department managers are many individual users (per Measurement), if Manager Z had a login for Measurement 1, we would like to use that login again if he participates in Measurement 2. URL structure These are typical urls in our application: http://host/login - the login screen http://host/project - the account/product overview screen (measurement selection) http://host/project/1000 - measurement (id:1000) details http://host/project/1000/planning - planning overview (for primary contact/superuser) http://host/project/1000/reports - report downloads (manager department X can only access report X) We will also create a document url, where you can request a specific document by it's GUID. The system will have to check if the user has rights to the document. The document is related to a Measurement, the User or specific roles have specific rights to the document. What's the problem? (finally ;)) Roles aren't enough to determine what a user is allowed to see/access/download a specific item. It's not enough to say that a certain navigation item is accessible to Managers. When the user requests Measurement 1000, we have to check that the user not only has a Manager role, but a Manager role for Measurement 1000. Summarized: How can we limit users to their accounts/measurements? (remember superusers see all measurements, some managers only specific measurements) How can we apply roles at a product/measurement level? (user X could be primarycontact for measurement 1, but just a manager for measurement 2) How can we limit manager access to the reports screen and only to their department's reports? All with the magic of asp.net classes, perhaps with a custom roleprovider implementation. • How do you localize/internationalize an MVC Controller when using a SQL based localization provider?

    - by EBarr
    Hopefully this isn't too silly of a question. In MVC there appears to be plenty of localization support in the views. Once I get to the controller, however, it becomes murky. Using meta:resourcekey="blah" is out, same with <%$ Resources:PageTitle.Text%. ASP.NET MVC - Localization Helpers -- suggested extensions for the Html helper classes like Resource(this Controller controller, string expression, params object[] args). Similarly, Localize your MVC with ease suggested a slightly different extension like Localize(this System.Web.UI.UserControl control, string resourceKey, params object[] args) None of these approaches works while in a controller. I put together the below function and I'm using the controllers full class name as my VirtualPath. But I'm new to MVC and assume there's a better way. public static string Localize (System.Type theType, string resourceKey, params object[] args) { string resource = (HttpContext.GetLocalResourceObject(theType.FullName, resourceKey) ?? string.Empty).ToString(); return mergeTokens(resource, args); } Thoughts? Comments?

  • Is the REST support in Spring 3's MVC Framework production quality yet?

    - by glenjohnson
    Hi all, Since Spring 3 was released in December last year, I have been trying out the new REST features in the MVC framework for a small commercial project involving implementing a few RESTful Web Services which consume XML and return XML views using JiBX. I plan to use either Hibernate or JDBC Templates for the data persistence. As a Spring 2.0 developer, I have found Spring 3's (and 2.5's) new annotations way of doing things quite a paradigm shift and have personally found some of the new MVC annotation features difficult to get up to speed with for non-trivial applications - as such, I am often having to dig for information in forums and blogs that is not apparent from going through the reference guide or from the various Spring 3 REST examples on the web. For deadline-driven production quality and mission critical applications implementing a RESTful architecture, should I be holding off from Spring 3 and rather be using mature JSR 311 (JAX-RS) compliant frameworks like RESTlet or Jersey for the REST layer of my code (together with Spring 2 / 2.5 to tie things together)? I had no problems using RESTlet 1.x in a previous project and it was quite easy to get up to speed with (no magic tricks behind the scenes), but when starting my current project it initially looked like the new REST stuff in Spring 3's MVC Framework would make life easier. Do any of you out there have any advice to give on this? Does anyone know of any commercial / production-quality projects using, or having successfully delivered with, the new REST stuff in Spring 3's MVC Framework. Many thanks Glen

    - by Tassadaque
    Hi, i m using Telerik grid to present memos received by user below is the code <%Html.Telerik().Grid<UserManagement.Models.SentMemos>() .Name("ReceivedMemos") .Sortable(sorting => sorting .OrderBy(sortOrder => sortOrder.Add(o => o.MemoDate).Descending())) .DataBinding(dataBinding => dataBinding //Ajax binding .Ajax() //The action method which will return JSON .Select("_AjaxBindingReceivedMemos", "OA" ) ). Columns(colums => { colums.Bound(o => o.MemoID).ClientTemplate(Html.ActionLink("Reply", "ReplyMemo", "OA", new { MemoID = "<#=MemoID#>"}, null).ToString()).Title("Reply").Filterable(false).Sortable(false); colums.Bound(o => o.MemoID).ClientTemplate(Html.ActionLink("Acknowledge", "PreviewMemo", "OA", new { id = "<#=MemoID#>"}, null).ToString()).Title("Acknowledge").Filterable(false).Sortable(false); colums.Bound(o => o.Subject).ClientTemplate(Html.ActionLink("<%#=Subject#>", "PreviewMemo", "OA", new { id = "<#=MemoID#>" }, null).ToString()).Title("Subject"); //colums.Bound(o => Html.ActionLink(o.Subject,"PreviewMemo","OA",new{id=o.MemoID},null).ToString()).Title("Subject"); colums.Bound(o => o.FromEmployeeName); colums.Bound(o => o.MemoDate); }) .Sortable() .Filterable() .RowAction((row) => { row.HtmlAttributes.Add("style", "background:#321211;"); }) .Pageable(pager=>pager.PageSize(6)) .PrefixUrlParameters(false) //.ClientEvents(events => events.OnRowDataBound("onRowDataBound")) .Render(); %> where i m binding third column (Subject) my intention is to make an ActionLink where subject is the display text and i want a dynamic ID coming from <#=MemoID#. memo id is working fine and gives me a link with dynamic Memo IDs. the problem is with the subject i.e ("<#=Subject#") is rendered as it is on the screen without mapping to the actual subject of the memo. i have also tried ("<%#=Subject%") but to no gain. any help is highly appriciated regards

  • MVC Partial View to Call Display Pop-up window using jquery

    - by Gavin campbell
    Hi I have a index page the renders objects from my database as a treeview, each item has a link href="/MessageGroupType/Edit/1002 that makes an Ajax call to display a partial view in a DIV. Within the partial view there is a delete button which calls my controller to delete the item. However, i do a check to make sure the item can be deleted, if the item cant be deleted then i wish a pop-up to appear back on the edit form telling the user they cant delete this record. In my Edit partial view i have the following code " type="text/javascript" $(function() { $("#dialog").dialog(); }); <% if (Boolean.Parse(ViewData["DisplayWindow"].ToString())){% This Mesage group Type Cannot be deleted as is linked to other message group Types <% }% So my main questions are Can i make a reference to a javascript script within my Partial View (i dont want my master page to be called on the partial view) When i dynamically load the partial view data into my DIV - can i then after calling my controller insert another DIV into the first DIV. I am i doing this the wrong way - so any pointers is appreciated Cheers

  • asp.net mvc Ajax.BeginForm

    - by Bala R
    Hello, I'm having some difficulties with Ajax.BeginForm I have something like this in a view <% using (Ajax.BeginForm("ActionName", null , null, new { id = "FormName" })) {%> <input type="hidden" value = '<%= Html.Encode( Model.id) %>' name="id"/> <textarea id="message" name=message rows="4" style="width: 90%"> </textarea> <% }%} And the action method is something like this [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [Authorize] public ActionResult ActionName(int id, string message) { .... } I'm trying to pass the 'id' and 'message' to the action method. I'm passing 'null' for routeValues but I dont know what to pass. Ideally I was trying to find an overload that did not require route values but took actionName and htmlattributes (for form name) but I could not find one.I don't want to add 'message' to the view-model and I do need the FormName in there for jquery operations. What is the best way to work around this problem ?

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 disable cache for browser back button in partial views

    - by brainnovative
    I am using Html.RenderAction<CartController>(c => c.Show()); on my master Page to display the cart for all pages. The problem is when I add an item to the cart and then hit the browser back button. It shows the old cart (from Cache) until I hit the refresh button or navigate to another page. I've tried this and it works perfectly but it disables the Cache globally for the whole page an for all pages in my site (since this Action method is used on the master page). I need to enable cache for several other partial views (action methods) for performance reasons. I wouldn't like to use client side script with AJAX to refresh the cart (and login view) on page load - but that's the only solution I can think of right now. Does anyone know better?

  • Html.CheckBoxFor() checked problem in ASP.Net MVC 2

    - by inolen
    It doesn't seem that the Html.CheckBoxFor helper adds the correct "checked" attribute when rendering the HTML. I have a bool property rendered like so: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(m => m.Visible) %> And the outputted HTML is this: <input type="checkbox" value="true" name="Visible" id="Visible"> Is there some particular reason it does not add the "checked" attribute when the value is true?

  • ASP.NET MVC 1: Model Binding With Disabled Textbox

    - by modernzombie
    I have a textbox that I am defining as <%= Html.TextBox("Username", Model.Form.Username, new { @class = "textbox", @disabled = "disabled" })%> In my action [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult EditLogin(LoginForm post) { ... return View(model); } post.Username will be blank, all other properties bind correctly, but if I change @disabled="disabled to @readonly="readonly" the username binds properly and everything works. It looks like model binding ignores values in disabled fields. Is their a way around this? I still need the field's value to bind to the model. I can use readonly but would prefer to use disabled so it is visually apparent to the user that they cannot edit the value of the field.

  • ASP.NET MVC : AJAX ActionLink - Persist Data

    - by Mio
    Hi guys, I'm really new at this and I was searching the web for an answer to my question and I couldn't find it, so here I am posting my question :) I'm trying to create a new record in my table Facility. For my goreign keys I'm displaying the choices in tables instead of a dropdowns. When the user clicks on the select link which is an Ajax.ActionLink(), I wanna retrieve the right record from the DB and set the foreign key of my object Facility to the one slected and replace the Div by a new Partial View. The problem is when I try to submit the form, the Facility object doesnt seem to have the foreign key that I've just set in my ajax fuction in my controller. And if the user has enter some data in the other fields of the create form, I don't them to lose what they already entered. Here's my code. Model only contains a Facility. public ActionResult Create() { Model.Facility = new Facility(); return View(Model); } This is part of my Create View <div id="FacilityTypePartialView"> <% Html.RenderPartial("FacilityType"); %> </div> This is my Partial View FacilityType <% if (Model.IsNewFacility()) { %> <p> Id: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Facility.FacilityType.FId)%> </p> <p> Type: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Facility.FacilityType.FType)%> </p> <p> Description: <%= Html.Encode(Model.Facility.FacilityType.FDescription) %> </p> <% } %> <p> <%= Html.ActionLink("Manage Facility Type", "Index","FacilityType") %> </p> <table id="FacilityTypesList"> <tr> <th> Select </th> <th> FId </th> <th> FType </th> <th> FDescription </th> </tr> <% foreach (var item in Model.GetFacilityTypes()) { %> <tr> <td> <%=Ajax.ActionLink("Select", "FacilityTypeSelect", new { id = item.FId}, new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "FacilityTypePartialView" })%> </td> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.FId) %> </td> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.FType) %> </td> <td> <%= Html.Encode(item.FDescription) %> </td> </tr> <% } %> </table> Here's y Ajax Funcion public PartialViewResult FacilityTypeSelect(int id) { Facility facility = new Facility(); facility.FacilityType = _repository.GetFacilityType(id); Model.Facility = facility; if (this.Request.IsAjaxRequest() == false) { return PartialView("FacilityType/FacilityType", Model); } else { return PartialView("FacilityType/FacilityTypeSelected", Model); } } Finally, my Post method [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Create( Facility facility) { Model.Facility = facility; if (ModelState.IsValid) { try { _repository.AddEntity(facility); _repository.Save(); return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id = facility.Id }); } catch { } } return View("Create", Model); } My Faciliy object coming from the View have the Facility.FacilityType set to nothing.

  • Custom RoleProvider with MVC 2.0 webconfig

    - by Farrell
    I have a custom MembershipProvider and a custom RoleProvider. I created the custom MembershipProvider by creating a SimpleMembershipProvider class which implements the MembershipProvider class. After that I changed my web.config and works. So I used the same approach creating a custom RoleProvider. Nothing special, just creating a SimpleRoleProvider class which implements the RoleProvider class. But then when I changed the web.config file and runs the solution I get the following error message: Web.Config <membership defaultProvider="DashboardMembershipProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="SimpleMembershipProvider" type="Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account.SimpleMembershipProvider" /> </providers> </membership> <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="DashboardRoleProvider"> <providers> <clear/> <add name="DashboardRoleProvider" type="Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account.DashboardRoleProvider" /> </providers> </roleManager> Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. Parser Error Message: No parameterless constructor defined for this object. Source Error Line 78: <add name="SimpleRoleProvider" Line 79: type="Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account.SimpleRoleProvider" /> So I searched the web. And tried on the type attribute, which generates the following errors: Configuration Error Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately. Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Source Error: Line 78: <add name="SimpleRoleProvider" Line 79: type="Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account.SimpleRoleProvider,Dashboard.Web.Controlling.Account" /> Any suggestions on how I would be able to get this CustomRoleProvider working? Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • ASP.NET MVC Pass mutiple params from getJson to controller

    - by andyJ
    Hi, I am making a call to a controller action in javascript using the getJson method. I need to pass two parameters to my action method on the controller, but I am struggling to do so. I do not fully understand the routing tables and not sure if this is what I need to use to get this working. Please see example below of what I am trying to do. var action = "<%=Url.Content('~/Postcode/GetAddressResults/')%>" + $get("Premise").value + "/" + $get("SearchPostcode").value $.getJSON(action, null, function(data) { $("#AddressDropDown").fillSelect(data); }); This is my route which I don't understand how to make use of... routes.MapRoute( "postcode", "Postcode/GetAddressResults/{premise}/{postcode}", new { controller = "Motor", action = "GetAddressResults", premise = "", postcode = "" });

  • ASP.NET MVC DropDownList Validation

    - by Andrew Florko
    Hello everybody, I have [DisplayName("Country")] public List<SelectListItem> Countries { get; set; } property in Model class for DropDownList. When I try to check if the ModelState.IsValid on form postback it's always false & error for Countries tells "Can't convert [value] to SelectListItem" or some of a kind. I figured out there is no straight-forward mapping for drop down selected value (looks like I'll have to read value from Form value collection), but how can I ignore binding and validation for List property? I just want to make ModelState.IsValid attribute to be true if all the other fields are populated properly. Thank you in advance

  • asp.net mvc compress stream and remove whitespace

    - by Bigfellahull
    Hi, So I am compressing my output stream via an action filter: var response = filterContext.HttpContext.Response; response.Filter = new DeflateStream(response.Filter), CompressionMode.Compress); Which works great. Now, I would also like to remove the excess whitespace present. I found Mads Kristensen's http module http://madskristensen.net/post/A-whitespace-removal-HTTP-module-for-ASPNET-20.aspx. I added the WhitespaceFilter class and added a new filter like the compression: var response = filterContext.HttpContext.Response; response.Filter = new WhitepaperFilter(response.Filter); This also works great. However, I seem to be having problems combining the two! I tried: var response = filterContext.HttpContext.Response; response.Filter = new DeflateStream(new WhitespaceFilter(response.Filter), CompressionMode.Compress); However this results in some major issues. The html gets completely messed up and sometimes I get an 330 error. It seems that the Whitespace filter write method gets called multiple times. The first time the html string is fine, but on subsequent calls its just random characters. I thought it might be because the stream had been deflated, but isnt the whitespace filter using the untouched stream and then passing the resulting stream to the DeflateStream call? Any ideas?

  • ASP.NET MVC Class level custom data-annotation and ModelState keys

    - by Neil
    Hi, I have custom class level validation attribute, inheriting from ValidationAttribute, on my model. How come it doesn't register a key in the ModelState when its IsValid is false? I can see the the error message in the ModelState.Values collection, but the ModelState.Keys collection only shows an empty string "". Can I provide a key for it - presumably this is because its not assigned to a property? I wanna be able to use ModelState.Remove in my controller to remove this error upon a certain condition, but I have no Key! Any ideas?

  • Asp.Net MVC - Rob Conery's LazyList - Count() or Count

    - by Adam
    I'm trying to create an html table for order logs for customers. A customer is defined as (I've left out a lot of stuff): public class Customer { public LazyList<Order> Orders { get; set; } } The LazyList is set when fetching a Customer: public Customer GetCustomer(int custID) { Customer c = ... c.Orders = new LazyList<Order>(_repository.GetOrders().ByOrderID(custID)); return c; } The order log model: public class OrderLogTableModel { public OrderLogTableModel(LazyList<Order> orders) { Orders = orders; Page = 0; PageSize = 25; } public LazyList<Order> Orders { get; set; } public int Page { get; set; } public int PageSize { get; set; } } and I pass in the customer.Orders after loading a customer. Now the log i'm trying to make, looks something like: <table> <tbody> <% int rowCount = ViewData.Model.Orders.Count(); int innerRows = rowCount - (ViewData.Model.Page * ViewData.Model.PageSize); foreach (Order order in ViewData.Model.Orders.OrderByDescending(x => x.StartDateTime) .Take(innerRows).OrderBy(x => x.StartDateTime) .Take(ViewData.Model.PageSize)) { %> <tr> <td> <%= order.ID %> </td> </tr> <% } %> </tbody> </table> Which works fine. But the problem is evaluating ViewData.Model.Orders.Count() literally takes about 10 minutes. I've tried with the ViewData.Model.Orders.Count property instead, and the results are the same - takes forever. I've also tried calling _repository.GetOrders().ByCustomerID(custID).Count() directly from the view and that executes perfectly within a few ms. Can anybody see any reason why using the LazyList to get a simple count would take so long? It seems like its trying to iterate through the list when getting a simple count.
