  • asp mvc textreader

    Hello, I am trying to use a textreader to retrieve data from a text file on a local machine. I have an upload routine to get the file for the reader to open. When I run the application locally, it works fine. When I publish my application to my server, I am getting a Could not find a part of the path error. I assume this error has to do with permission in that the server cannot read from the local file system, but I don't know the proper way to remedy this. do I set up the application to impersonate the user? I know I can't possibly set up each local users machine to allow the iusr account to access it. Thanks for any thoughts.

    Hello everybody, I have ascx partial view with html-layout like that <%=Html.ActionLink<PersonController>(x => x.Publications(param1, param2, ... )) %> My ascx is pretty big & I'd like to reuse it, changing controller/method in Html.ActionLink with another controller/method. Method of another controller has the same signature as PersonController.Publications. Please, suggest me the best way how to make controller/method configurable for my layout. Thank you in advance

    There are lots of articles and discussions about the differences between ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC that compare the relative merits of the two frameworks. I have a different question for anyone who has experience using WebForms that has since moved to MVC: What is the number one thing that WebForms had, that MVC doesn't, that you really miss? Edit No-one has mentioned the WebForms validation controls. I am now working on some code that has a few dependant validation rules and implementing client-side validation for these is proving slow.

    Hello, I am trying to fire off a javascript method using the OnBegin AjaxOption in an Ajax method. However, when debugging with firebug the callback in unable to find the Javascript method and I do not know why. My code is simple, first I use a basic Ajax method like this: <%= Ajax.ActionLink("Testing", "Testing", new AjaxOptions { OnBegin = "RunThisThing" }) % Then under it I decalre this script. <script type="text/javascript"> function RunThisThing { alert("WORK") } </script> Yet when I try running the page and clicking on the link, Firebug tells me "RunThisThing is not defined". Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

  • Can I have two separate projects, 1 WebForms and 1 ASP.NET MVC, to both point to the same domain?

    Is it possible to setup two separate projects, 1 WebForms and 1 ASP.NET MVC, to both point to the same domain? i.e. both point to different pages within www.somesite.com. Here's some background on the application and why I'm asking. This is a brownfield application that is currently 2.0 WebForms and is full of WebFormy 'goodness' (i.e. ObjectDataSources, FormView controls, UpdatePanels, etc...) There are lost of other 'fun' things in the code base like 600+ Stored Procedures and 200+ line methods in the business layer code that get data from the DB via stored proc, do some processing on the data, build an HTML string using string concatenation and then return that string to the UI layer. What we are planning on doing is developing new features in MVC and slowly converting the existing features over to MVC one at a time. As part of this transition, we will also be re-writing the layers below the UI to clean up the mess there and to do things like replace the stored procedures with NHibernate and introduce an IOC container. I know that you can run WebForms and MVC side-by-side in the same project, however, because we will be making wholesale changes to the way we do many things throughout our entire development stack, I'd like the new stuff to be a completely separate project within the solution. This should help serve as very visual reminder that this is a different way of doing things than before and make it easier to remove the old code as it is no longer needed. What I don't know is, is this even possible? Can two separate project point to the same domain? Here's an quick example of what I'm thinking: www.somesite.com/orders.aspx?id=123 (Orders page from existing WebForms project) www.somesite.com/customer/987 (Customer page from new MVC project)

    We know authorization stuff is a cross cutting concern, and we do anything we could to avoid merge business logic in our views. But I still not found an elegant way to filter UI components (e.g. widgets, form elements, tables, etc) using the current user roles without contaminate the view with business logic. same applies for model binding. Example Form: Product Creation Fields: Name Price Discount Roles: Role Administrator Is allowed to see and modify the Name field Is allowed to see and modify the Price field Is allowed to see and modify the Discount Role Administrator assistant Is allowed to see and modify the Name Is allowed to see and modify the Price Fields shown in each role are different, and model binding needs to ignore the discount field for 'Administrator assistant' role. How would you do it?

    I'm trying to write my own Custom Validation attribute but i'm having some problems. The attribute i'm trying to write is that when a user logs in, the password will be compared against the confirmation password. namespace EventCompanion.Data.Attributes { public class ComparePassword : ValidationAttribute { public string PasswordToCompareWith { get; set; } public override bool IsValid(object value) { if (PasswordToCompareWith == (string)value) { return true; } return false; } } Now my problem is when i'm trying to set the attribute like this in the model file: [Required] [ComparePassword(PasswordToCompareWith=ConfirmPassword)] public string Password { get; set; } [Required] public string ConfirmPassword { get; set; } } I get the following error: Error 1 An object reference is required for the non-static field, method, or property 'Project.Data.Models.GebruikerRegistreerModel.ConfirmPassword.get' It seems that VS is not accepting the confirmpassword in the "PasswordToCompareWith=ConfirmPassword" part Now my question: What am i doing wrong?     Hi, I'm getting started with unit testing and trying to do some TDD. I've read a fair bit about the subject and written a few tests. I just want to know if the following is the right approach. I want to add the usual "contact us" facility on my web site. You know the thing, the user fills out a form with their email address, enters a brief message and hits a button to post the form back. The model binders do their stuff and my action method accepts the posted data as a model. The action method would then parse the model and use smtp to send an email to the web site administrator infoming him/her that somebody filled out the contact form on their site. Now for the question .... In order to test this, would I be right in creating an interface IDeliver that has a method Send(emailAddress, message) to accept the email address and message body. Implement the inteface in a concrete class and let that class deal with smtp stuff and actually send the mail. If I add the inteface as a parameter to my controller constructor I can then use DI and IoC to inject the concrete class into the controller. But when unit testing I can create a fake or mock version of my IDeliver and do assertions on that. The reason I ask is that I've seen other examples of people generating interfaces for SmtpClient and then mocking that. Is there really any need to go that far or am I not understanding this stuff?

    Hi, I am using a jqgrid with a column named 'Comments'. My controller code returns data as follows: var jsonData = new { rows= .... .... select new { col1.... col2.... Comments = _Model.GetComments(id), }) ....... ..... return Json(jsonData, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } _Model.GetComments(id) will return a ClientComments Object which has a few properties say CommentID, FirstName, MiddleName etc., which will be bound to each row in the grid Now in my jqgrid I need to build a tool tip based on Comments column properties and for that I need to use the properties of my Comments in JQGrid for each row. May I know How I can manipulate Comment's properties for each row? Any help would be appreciated. I tried in my javascript that for each row rowObject.Comments.FirstName and it did not work.

    I'm wondering if it is possibile to customize routing in a way that all requests are evaluated by a piece of code, redirected to the relevant controller if a match is found or passed to next rout in list if not found. sample request: /my coolpage/another one the code searches and determine that the right controller for this is Page, action is "list" and id is "123" and so redirects another request: /products/list/5 code finds no match al passes it back to next route that knows how to handle it... any idea on how to do this?

  • Visual Studio ASP.Net MVC undo set as start page action

    I have an web application that I'm working on, it was working fine until my curiosity got the better of me and I right-clicked on a view and chose Set As Start Page option. Now, whenever I run my application it takes me to the Resource Not Found error page. I have the default register route set in my Global config route which was working fine before. I notice that the URL now reads: http://localhost:1234/Views/User/Login.aspx instead of http://localhost:1234/ like it was before. I'm not sure how to undo this action or what was changed, I've looked in my web.config file but I'm not sure what to look for exactly, Help is appreciated.

    There are certain tables that get called often but updated rarely. One of these tables is Departments. So to save DB trips, I think it is ok to cache this table taking into consideration that the table has very small size. However, once you cached it an issue of keeping the table data fresh occurs. So what is the best way to determine that the table is dirty and therefore requires a reload and how that code should be invoked. I look for solution that will be scalable. So updating the cache right after inserting will not work. So if one machine inserted the record all other on network should get notified to reload the cache. I was thinking for calling corresponding web service from T-SQL but don't really like the idea of consuming recourses on sql server. So what are the best practices to resolve this type of problems.     How do I get visual studio 2005 to work best with .asp files? I used to have this on my old PC but I can't get the settings right. I exported and important all my old settings and still no dice. alternatively I think there might be an even better choice for classic asp IDE editor. It'd be nice to have intellisense, completion, highlighting, stuff like that for ASP (vbscript) and css/html at the same time. (I'm happy not to type out css selectors) thanks

    I’m getting an HttpRequestValidationexception with this error message: “A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client”. But I have AllowHtml on the property that I’m getting the error. The problem is that later in my code I’m getting the following property to know in witch format I will show my view ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format"). And on this “Param Getter” I’m getting the error. Let’s say my code is similar to the following: public class House { [AllowHtml] public string Text { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } [HttpPost, ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult CreateTopic(House h) { //business code if(ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format")) { Return view; } } How can I solve this? I already try with the ValidateInput(false) attribute on the controller action method. Any idea?
