• Using Qtcreator (with Qwt), really basic stuff

  I'm trying to make a Qt program using Qtcreator and Qwt for plotting. I've never used Qtcreator before. I've created a mainwindow and added a Qwtplot widget there (object name: qwtPlot). The widget shows up in the program when I compile and run it. But theres no mention of the qwtPlot object anywhere in the (autogenerated) code so I assume it is being added at compile time from the .ui xml file (or something). My question is that... how do I modify/change the qwtPlot object? Or where should I place the code. I'm having a hard time articulating my question but the question basically is "How do I do anything with the qwtPlot widget which is created (graphically) with Qtcreator?". I've checked some tutorials but in the tutorials they add the widgets manually in the code, but I'd like to use Qtcreator (because my UI will be fairly complicated). This whole Qtcreator is pretty confusing...

• In an ASP.NET Web Site Project, what is the best option to manage modular widgets

  We are creating a modular Web Site Project and all the UI is based on simple html pages with javascript widgets. These widgets obtain the data from a WCF class located in the app_code folder. Each widget has 3 files [ js, css , cs] and an image directory: , and we want all these files to be located under the same directory, say: /widgets/mywidget/ The problem is that the .cs file needs to be in the app_code folder to be compiled dynamically and that would break our widget modularity forcing the installator to distribute the widget code in two places. One of the options is use compiled assemblies instead of .cs files and use Assembly.Load() or smthg similar to load them when needed. What other options do you see?

• Django Initial for a ManyToMany Field

I would like to use the form to pass all the values as hidden with an inital values of username defaulting to the logged in user so that it becomes a subscribe form.   I have searched StackOverflow (and other sources) for this answer, but can't seem to find anything. In C#, if I had a widget definition, say: class widget { public string PrettyName() { ... do stuff here } } and I wanted to allow for easy printing of a list of Widgets, I might do this: namespace ExtensionMethods { public static PrintAll( this IEnumerable<Widget> widgets, TextWriter writer ) { foreach(var w in widgets) { writer.WriteLine( w.PrettyName() ) } } } How would I accomplish something similar with a record type and a collection (List or Seq preferrably in F#). I'd love to have a list of Widgest and be able to call a function right on the collection that did something like this. Assume (since it's F#) that the function would not be changing the state of the collection that it's attached to, but returning some new value.

  Hi, quick question. Is there any way to (easily) retrieve the parent layout of a widget in Qt? PS: QObject::parent() won't work, for logical reasons. EDIT: I'm positive the widget has a parent layout, because I added it to a layout earlier in the code. Now, I have many other layouts in the window and while it is possible for me to keep track of them, I just want to know if there is an easy and clean way to get the parent layout. EDIT2: Sorry, "easy and clean" was probably not the best way of putting. I meant using the Qt API. • Breadcrumbs in Fusebox 4/5

  I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a clean way to generate a breadcrumbs trail in Fusebox. Specifically, is there a way of keeping track of "where you are" and having that somehow generate the breadcrumbs for you? So, for example, if you're executing /index.cfm?fuseaction=Widgets.ViewWidget&widget=1 and the circuit structure is something like /foo/bar/widgets/ then somehow the system automatically creates an array like: [ { title: 'Foo', url: '#self#?fuseaction=Foo.Main' }, { title: 'Bar', url: '#self#?fuseaction=Bar.Main' }, { title: 'Widgets', url: '#self#?fuseaction=Widgets.Main' }, { title: 'Awesome Widget', url: '' } ] Which can then be rendered as Foo Bar Widgets Awesome Widget Right now it seems the only way to really do this is to create the structure for each fuseaction in a fuse of some kind (either the display fuse or a fuse dedicated to creating the crumbtrail).

• Printing complex widgets in Qt

  I have a complex widget with tons of different subwidgets, e.g. subclasses of QLabel. I want to print this widget, but obviously I do not want to print the background, I want to print with differing text colors or have the style of frames slightly modified. As I do not really want to iterate through all subwidgets with a special "print" function, which I would need to attach to all widgets (how to add "print" to a QLabel?), I would like to use paintEvent. If I have a hierarchy MyWidget - derived from - some QWidget, I would like to insert a sublayer MyWidget - MyPrintWidget - some QWidget, where myPrintWidget::paintEvent would check, if the current print is going to the screen (thus call QWidget::paintEvent), else if we are printing to the printer, call some function MyPrintWidget::drawWidget instead. Is this the right way to print-enable a widget? How can I figure out in paintEvent, that I'm printing to a printer instead of the screen? Is there a good example of printing complex widgets?

• ASP.NET Server.Execute

  I'm having some problems with Server.Execute that I can't seem to find any details on. Page page = new WidgetProcessor(Widget); Server.Execute(page, htmlTextWriter, true); The Widget in the above code is a simple object that knows how to instantiate a usercontrol. The WidgetProcessor takes a Widget and adds the widgets control to the page. This works fine on the initial load, it doesn't seem to handle postbacks however; it never actually fires the user controls events, it just consistently returns the original page as if you had never posted back. I've found this article from 2003: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817036, though I would think they would have fixed this by now. Any help would be appreciated.

  I didn't find solution for my problem with two QLayouts. I need app with QHBoxLayout with possible expandind when I will add new widgets, push buttons, .... So what I have: One QDialog and two layouts. Now I know that I can't hide the layout. So I tray just : layout()->removeItem(firstlayout); layout()->addLayout(secondLayout); But when I did this, I saw all items in first layout on possition [0,0]. So next step I try: for (all items in first layout) if (widget) widget->hide(); But this is working only with QWidget and I have many different items in layouts. Simply way is use the widget, because there is possibole to use hide/show, but I need auto expanding window when I add new items.

  I run a blog in google blogger. I have many labels and I am searching for a way to make labels as tabs (where the pages gadget/widget is) and subtabs. Let me be more specific. I have a label called Games and four labels called PC Games, XBOX 360 Games, PS3 Games and Wii Games. What I want is not only each of the labels to be put in the pages gadget/widget is ( I found some information on that matter here) but also a way to make the four specialized labels that I mentioned in my example to be put in a droplist under the label/tab games (i want the droplist to appear when the mouse hovers above the tab games and also that tab to be clickable and show all the posts I have labeled Games

• What have my fellow Delphi programmers done to make Eclipse/Java more like Delphi?

  I am a veteran Delphi programmer working on my first real Android app. I am using Eclipse and Java as my development environment. The thing I miss the most of course is Delphi's VCL components and the associated IDE tools for design-time editing and code creation. Fortunately I am finding Eclipse to be one hell of an IDE with it's lush context sensitive help, deep auto-complete and code wizard facilities, and other niceties. This is a huge double treat since it is free. However, here is an example of something in the Eclipse/Java environment that will give a Delphi programmer pause. I will use the simple case of adding an "on-click" code stub for an OK button. DELPHI Drop button on a form Double-click button on form and fill in the code that will fire when the button is clicked ECLIPSE Drop button on layout in the graphical XML file editor Add the View.OnClickListener interface to the containing class's "implements" list if not there already. (Command+1 on Macs, Ctrl + 1 on PCs I believe). Use Eclipse to automatically add the code stub for unimplemented methods needed to support the View.OnClickListener interface, thus creating the event handler function stub. Find the stub and fill it in. However, if you have more than one possible click event source then you will need to inspect the View parameter to see which View element triggered the OnClick() event, thus requiring a case statement to handle multiple click event sources. NOTE: I am relatively new to Eclipse/Java so if there is a much easier way of doing this please let me know. Now that work flow isn't all that terrible, but again, that's just the simplest of use cases. Ratchet up the amount of extra work and thinking for a more complex component (aka widget) and the large number of properties/events it might have. It won't be long before you miss dearly the Delphi intelligent property editor and other designers. Eclipse tries to cover this ground by having an extensive list of properties in the menu that pops up when you right-click over a component/widget in the XML graphical layout editor. That's a huge and welcome assist but it's just not even close to the convenience of the Delphi IDE. Let me be very clear. I absolutely am not ranting nor do I want to start a Delphi vs. Java ideology discussion. Android/Eclipse/Java is what it is and there is a lot that impresses me. What I want to know is what other Delphi programmers that made the switch to the Eclipse/Java IDE have done to make things more Delphi like, and not just to make component/widget event code creation easier but any programming task. • Is it possible to aggregate multiple email accounts into a single Outlook 2007 Inbox/.OST file?

  I'm using Outlook 2007 and would like to combine multiple email accounts (some are Exchange, some IMAP) into a single Inbox/.OST mail file. An example of the functionality I'm looking for is the Blackberry, where you can configure multiple email accounts and then access that mail either by the inbox for that specific account or via a single aggregated mailbox. In the single mailbox case, when you reply to a given piece of mail the Blackberry is smart enough to switch your "From" address to be that of the account where the email came in to. I'm essentially looking for this functionality in Outlook. Are there native options and/or third party plug-ins which do this?

• Project management software that syncs with smartphone?

  Hello, I went through the archives here and the Wikipedia page on Project management software, but didn't find information on this type of application to manage projects: Native Windows application (don't like web-based solutions; prefer native to cross-platform) Free or affordable, ie. not an Enterprise solution Scalable from one to a few concurrent users Like MS Projet et al., a project consists in tasks which can be further divided into sub-tasks, and the whole thing is displayed in an tree list An item that has a date set (either start/due) must be displayed in a Calendar view, so it's easy to know what work must be done each day The Calendar view must somehow sync with smartphones (at least BlackBerry) At this point, the apps I know either don't provide a Calendar at all, or do but they can't sync with smartphones, which forces me to copy/paste scheduled items into Outlook so they are synced with my BlackBerry :-/ Thank you for any help.

• Android - Switching Activities with a Tab Layout

  This post is based on the Tab Layout  tutorial on the Android developers site, with some modifications. I wanted to get rid of the icons (they take up too much screen real estate), and modify the fonts on the tabs. First, create a new Android project, with an Activity called TabWidget. Then, create two additional Activities called TabOne and TabTwo. Throw a simple TextView on each one with a message identifying the tab, like this: public class TabTwo extends Activity {  @Override  public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {   super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);   TextView tv = new TextView(this);   tv.setText("This is tab 2");   setContentView(tv);  } } And don't forget to add them to your AndroidManifest.xml file: <activity android:name=".TabOne"></activity> <activity android:name=".TabTwo"></activity> Now we'll create the tab layout - open the res/layout/main.xml file and insert the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"  android:id="@android:id/tabhost"  android:layout_width="fill_parent"  android:layout_height="fill_parent">  <LinearLayout   android:orientation="vertical"   android:layout_width="fill_parent"   android:layout_height="fill_parent">   <TabWidget    android:id="@android:id/tabs"    android:layout_width="fill_parent"    android:layout_height="wrap_content" />   <FrameLayout    android:id="@android:id/tabcontent"             android:layout_width="fill_parent"    android:layout_height="fill_parent" />  </LinearLayout> </TabHost> Finally, we'll create the code needed to populate the TabHost.   Announcing ... Information Center: Reviewing Security For Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g [ID 1458051.2] has been published.  Screenshot of ID 1458051.2 What is an Information Center? Information Centers use widgets to aggregate knowledge content, such as support documents, product documentation, support community threads, which is pertinent to a given task or intent. Widgets either contain static lists or better still some widgets are dynamic. A dynamic widget uses a query criteria to present a list of support documents relevant to the title / subject matter of the widget. The content of a dynamic widget is refreshed automatically every 24 hours. Once you are in an Information Center, you can use the left hand menu to navigate to other Tasks / Intent Information Centers (e.g "Install and Configure", "Patch", "Troubleshoot", "Upgrade" which are available for the chosen product. Are Information Centers easy to find? You can go straight to the new "Reviewing Security" Information Center by using the hyperlink given above. There are, however, two other methods which make Information Centers easier to find. Browse Knowledge Refine Your Search Browse Knowledge The "Browse Knowledge" is currently found in the "Knowledge" Tab Page in My Oracle Support. As illustrated by the screenshots below, you can find Information Centers by choosing a product (e.g "Oracle Fusion Middleware"), a version and an action / intent. If an Information Center exists for your selection the "Advisor Found" button is enabled. • Which smartphone OS would you choose for your users ?

  While we currently only use windows mobile smartphone, my boss seems less and less reluctant to try and choose a new kind of OS for our users corporate phones. For some reasons, we can't use a Blackberry Enterprise Server, so i guess our only choice is between Iphone OS and Android (or Blackberry without BES ? I don't really know if this works fine) We need activesync capable smartphones of course, and activesync security policies must be available (pin when using your phone for example). Centralized Phone management would be nice too :D Any ideas on what should be the best smartphone to choose for our users ?

• Qt question: hard-coded shortcuts

  I have asked this question on several places but I still can't figure it out. What I am trying to do is to have a QKeySequence(Qt::CTRL + Qt::Key_X, Qt::CTRL + Qt::Key_C) in a MainWindow with QTextEdit as a central widget. The problem is that I have a shorcut for Cut(Ctrl+X) and when I press Ctrl+X,Ctrl+C it doesn't work. When the focus is on diffrent widget the shorcut works perfectly. I tried with overriding the QWidget::keyPressEvent and QWidget::event but it is the same. I have one more question: if I have these two shorcuts Ctrl+X and Ctrl+XCtrl+C why I don't receive the signal activatedAmbigiously() when I press Ctrl+X? According to the Qt documentation When a key sequence is being typed at the keyboard, it is said to be ambiguous as long as it matches the start of more than one shortcut.
