Why doesn't str.begin() get type checked to be a string::iterator?

And it says that unlike to call-by-name and call-by-need strategies, call-by-value strategy is not Turing complete. Can anybody explain, please, why is it so? If it's possible, add an example pls.

Problem is I am getting different values in the following code for statement 1 and 2.   • VS2010 (older) installer project - two or more objects have the same target location.

    This installer project was created back in 2004 and upgraded ever since. There are two offending dll files, which produce a total of 4 errors. I have searched online for this warning message and did not find a permanent fix (I did manage to make it go away once until I have done something like a clean, or built in Release, and then in Debug). I also tried cleaning, and then refreshing the dependencies. The duplicated entries are still in there. I also did not find a good explanation for what this error means. Additional warnings are of this nature: Warning 36 The version of the .NET Framework launch condition '.NET Framework 4' does not match the selected .NET Framework bootstrapper package. Update the .NET Framework launch condition to match the version of the .NET Framework selected in the Prerequisites Dialog Box. So, where is this prerequisites box? I want to make both things agree on .Net 4.0, just having a hard time locating both of them.

    I'm trying to compile a program called hiQlab on OSX 10.8 g++ -g -O2 -I`echo /Users/.../Documents/hiQlab/hiqlab-2006-07-20/tools/`/lua/include -I`echo /Users/.../Documents/hiQlab/hiqlab-2006-07-20/tools/`/tolua++/include -c cscmatrix.cc cscmatrix.cc:13:12: fatal error: 'umfpack.h' file not found #include "umfpack.h" but I just installed SuiteSparse through macports which includes umfpack and umfpack.h is in fact present in default directory /opt/local/include/ do I need to add the path or something? Thanks!

  • C: Why does gcc allow char array initialization with string literal larger than array?

    int main() { char a[7] = "Network"; return 0; } A string literal in C is terminated internally with a nul character. So, the above code should give a compilation error since the actual length of the string literal Network is 8 and it cannot fit in a char[7] array. However, gcc (even with -Wall) on Ubuntu compiles this code without any error or warning. Why does gcc allow this and not flag it as compilation error? gcc only gives a warning (still no error!) when the char array size is smaller than the string literal. For example, it warns on: char a[6] = "Network"; [Related] Visual C++ 2012 gives a compilation error for char a[7]: 1>d:\main.cpp(3): error C2117: 'a' : array bounds overflow 1> d:\main.cpp(3) : see declaration of 'a'

  • Any tools can randomly generate the source code according to a language grammar?

    A C program source code can be parsed according to the C grammar(described in CFG) and eventually turned into many ASTs. I am considering if such tool exists: it can do the reverse thing by firstly randomly generating many ASTs, which include tokens that don't have the concrete string values, just the types of the tokens, according to the CFG, then generating the concrete tokens according to the tokens' definitions in the regular expression. I can imagine the first step looks like an iterative non-terminals replacement, which is randomly and can be limited by certain number of iteration times. The second step is just generating randomly strings according to regular expressions. Is there any tool that can do this?

  • Haskell mutability in compiled state?

    I do not know much about Haskell, but from what I have read about the mutability of computations (e.g: functions returning functions, complex monads and functions, etc.) it seems like you can do a lot of meta-programming, even at runtime. How can Haskell, if everything like functions and monads are so complex, compile to machine code and retain all this?

    I keep getting class undefined error from Visual Studio with my C++ code. My file looks like this: namespace myProject; scope myProject{ class FreeFormWindowsWidgetWindow : public WindowsWidget{ // shell } } But when I put FreeFormWindowsWidgetWindow in the same file as my other classes, it sees it. It doesn't seem to see anything in this file. How can I fix it and keep FreeFormWidgetWindow in its own file?

  • What are my options for Web 2.0 gallery software?

    Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing.   • Flash Builder missing fundamental things

    All of a sudden Flash Builder 4 is missing all kinds of fundamental things and is generating incorrect errors. I've had the same issue yesterday, where I fixed it by downloading a new Flex SDK and importing that into FB. I did this again, but this time it fixed nothing. I don't think it's something I did, like removing critical references from the build path. The errors also appeared on projects I was not working on at the time. It occurs for ActionScript, Flex and Flex Library projects alike.   • Is recursion really bad?

    After my previous post about the stack space, it appears that there is perception from the feedback that recursion is bad and we should avoid deep recursion. After writing a compiler, I know that the modern computer and compiler are complex enough and one cannot automatically assume that a hand crafted code would out-perform the compiler optimization. The only way is to do some prototype to find out. So why recursive code may not perform as well? Compilers place frames on a stack. In additional to arguments and local variables, compiles also need to place frame and program pointers on the frame, resulting in overheads. So why hand-crafted code may not performance as well? The stack used by a compiler is a simpler data structure and can grow and shrink cleanly. To replace recursion with out own stack, our stack is allocated in the heap that is far more complicated to manage. There could be overhead as well if the compiler needs to mark objects for garbage collection. Compiler also needs to worry about the memory fragmentation. Then there is additional complexity: CPUs have registers and multiple levels of cache. Register access is a few times faster than in-CPU cache access and is a few 10s times than on-board memory access. So it is up to the OS and compiler to maximize the use of register and in-CPU cache. For my particular problem, I did an experiment to rewrite my c# version of recursive code with a loop and stack approach. So here are the outcomes of the two approaches:   Recursive call Loop and Stack Lines of code for the algorithm 17 46 Speed Baseline 3% faster Readability Clean Far more complex So at the end, I was able to achieve 3% better performance with other drawbacks. My message is never assuming your sophisticated approach would automatically work out better than a simpler approach with a modern computer and compiler. Gage carefully before committing to a more complex approach.

  • What are the options for hosting a small Plone site?

    I’ve developed a portfolio website for myself using Plone 4, and I’m looking for someplace to host it. Most Plone hosting services seem to focus on large, corporate deployments, but I need something that I can afford on a very limited budget and fits a small, single-admin website. My understanding is that my basic options are thus: I can go with a hosting service that specifically provides Plone. I know of WebFaction, but what others exist? Also, I’d have two stipulations for a Plone hosting service: (a) It needs to use Plone 4, for which I’ve developed my site, and (b) it needs to allow me SSH access to a home directory (including the Plone configuration), so that I may use my custom development eggs and such. I could use a VPS hosting service. What are my options here? Again, I need something cheap and scaled to my level. I could use Amazon EC2 or a similar service (please tell me of any) and pay by the tiniest unit of data. I’m a little scared of this because I have no idea how to do a cost-benefit analysis between this and a regular VPS host. The advantage of this approach would be that I only pay for what I use, making it very scalable, but I don’t know how the overall cost would compare to any VPS host under similar circumstances. What factors enter into the cost of Amazon EC2? What can I expect to pay under either option for regular traffic for a new website? Which one is more desirable for when a rush of visitors drive up my bandwidth bill? One last note: I know Plone isn’t common for websites for individuals, but please don’t try to talk me out of it here; that’s a completely different subject. For now, assume I’m sticking with Plone for good. Also, I have seen the Plone hosting services list on Plone.org—it’s twenty pages long, and the first page was nothing but professional Plone consulting services that sometimes offer hosting for business clients.     Possible Duplicate: Is there a way to remove/hide old kernel versions? I installed Ubuntu Tweak in Ubuntu 11.10, went to Janitor, and selected and removed old kernels that appeared there (3.0.0-12). Now, the only installed linux-image that appears as 'Installed' in SPM is the most recent one (3.0.0-13), which is the one I want. It did not however eliminate the kernel listing in Grub 2. At boot: However, at boot, in Grub-2, the following options still appear: 3.0.0-13-generic 3.0.0-13-generic (recovery mode) 3.0.0-12 (generic) (on /dev/sde5) 3.0.0-12 (generic (recovery mode) (on /dev/sde5) And, in Terminal, when I change directory (cd) to /boot, and then list (ls), I get the following listed kernels: 3.0.0-13 2.6.38-12 2.6.38-8 (al There is no change when I sudo update-grub in Terminal 1) what is /dev/sde5, and where is it located in the file system, so i can delete it? 2) why the differences between what appears as installed in SPM, what appears at boot in Grub2, and what shows when I list the contents of Grub2 in Terminal? Ultimately, I simply want to remove the 3.0.0-12 kernel options at boot in Grub2. How do I best and simplest do that?   • Default mount options on auto-mounted NTFS partitions (how to add `noexec` and `fmask=0111`?)

    I use auto-mounting of external USB devices, and it works as expected, except that NTFS partitions are mounted with executability flag on. For example: /dev/sdb1 on /media/Elements type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,blksize=4096,default_permissions) All normal files are -rwxrwxrwx on this partition. I am not happy with the xs. I know I can have it mounted the way I want if I pass the fmask=0111 option. Now I use Lucid, and suppose it uses some new auto-mounting mechanism (gvfs-mount?), but I don't really know how the default mounting options can be changed now. Gconf settings in /system/storage/default_options/ntfs/mount_options have no effect. So, how do I make fmask=0111 the default automounting option for all NTFS partitions? (I'd be grateful also if someone explains how the current automounting mechanism works, how to configure it, and if the default mounting options are hard-coded, what I have to recompile to change them). I know that I can put a line in the /etc/fstab and/or mount manually, but this is not the solution I want, because 1) I don't want to edit /etc/fstab for each and every external drive I use, 2) fstab records appear in the Places pane of Nautilus, even if the drives are not present. The questions is how to change the defaults.

  • How can I fix my C++ compiler as it isn't loaded by default?

    Recently I had installed the Ubuntu flavour of the Linux operating system. I had opened a terminal and just wrote a sample C program to check if it is compiling. When I saved the sample file and compiled with cc a.c, errors comes that the standard library is not loaded (i.e stdio.h). When I went to help pages, it says that the C or C++ compiler doesnt gets loaded by default and we should do it ourselves. So can anyone help me out to fix this problem, i.e to load the C/C++ compiler.
