• Injection of banners in my webbrowsers possible malware

  Recently I have started to suspect that I have some kind of virus on my computer. There are 3 symptoms: Banners are being displayed on pages that doesn't use commercials, for instance when viewing screen-shots on Steam. It is only displayed after the rest of the page has been loaded and seems to be injected into it. The whole page is replaced with a commercial with the option to skip the commercial. The page is replaced with a search window claiming that the page could not be found. I have tried to scan my computer with Antivir and Adaware but only found a couple of tracking cookies. I have run HijackThis but since this isn't really my area I haven't been able to discern what shouldn't be there except the line about zonealarm since I have uninstalled it. Is there anyone out there who is able to see if there is anything suspicious in the log-file at the end or has suggestions regarding programs that might be better to find the virus than Antivir and Adaware?   Few weeks ago I tried Intellij and I found it really awesome. Now, at my project there's two programmers (including me) using Intellij and few other programmers gonna still be using Eclipse. Since this project is already very large and it gonna be growing a lot, we need to use compatible Code Style and Code Formatting between Intellij and Eclipse. We do not want to have problems when one user edit one file and reformat it before save. With Eclipse "alone" we used to have some exported configuration, and before anybody starts to work, the first step is just to import this configuration. We already tried to use External Code Formatter, but it didn't work on Intellij 9. So, I have a bunch of questions here: 1 - Is there any way to import eclipse formatting configuration on Intellij 9? 2 - Anybody could share their experience managing this kind of situation? Do you guys have any other suggestion to manage this situation?

  Hi, I have an executable that run time should take configuration parameters from a script file. This way I dont need to re-compile the code for every configuration change. Right now I have all the configuration values in a .h file. Everytime I change it i need to re-compile. The platform is C, gcc under Linux. What is the best solution for this problem? I looked up on google and so XML, phthon and Lua bindings for C. Is using a separate scripting language the best approach? If so, which one would you recommend for my need? Thanks

  What is the purpose of this Identify that sometime I find in the generated in the configuration when adding a service reference in the a client project. I have this wcf service running under local system account. It looks like I don't need to specify this identity in the client configuration. But if I run the wcf service under a specific account. I have to set the identity userprincipalname to the account the service is running under or else my client can't communicate at all with the wcf service. Can someone shed more light on this configuration? Maybe some articles on the net?

  I'm referencing the NHibernate dll version 2.1.2-GA, and am unable to compile under Mono 2.8.1. I've tried using NHibernate 3 instead and it compiles fine. A simple example of the code that's failing is NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration cfg = new NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration(); and the error is Error CS0584: Internal compiler error: Could not load type 'NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration' from assembly 'NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4'. (CS0584) As mentioned it compiles with no problems using NHibernate 3, does anyone have any ideas how to get it working with NHiberate 2.1.2?

  I implemented one service and it has several configuration item, such as data type, next node, blablabla. What I want to do is to deploy the service and configuration file into tomcat within one .aar. However, if I jar the service and configuration file into the aar. The service can't read the file though the file is there in the same directory. Even I put the file into tomcat_home\bin, the service fails to read the file. I know it should work. Can anybody give me a hint? Thanks.

• Make Dell's OpenManage 6.2 information available through SNMP

  I have successfully installed OpenManage on a CentOS 5.4 server and I'm able to use OpenManage through the web interface running on port 1311, but I would like to be able to expose this information through the SNMP server. I don't know SNMP particularly well so the configuration is a result of trial and error. I've tried to follow the description pointed out in the Open Manage Server Administrator User Guide. I've followed the documentation regarding SNMP configuration, but without success. • what service to restart for /var/log/auth.log to start

  Here is a situation since the log files on my server had grown to several Gigabytes I took a backup of directory /var/log and then manually when to each subdirectory of /var/log and the files which were big in size I did cat > /var/log/file_which_is_big press 2 times enter key (basically over wrote those files with a blank space) and then Ctrl+C So basically I over wrote those files to be blank. Now when I open /var/log/auth.log I don't see any entry (which is expected also since I over wrote) but when I exit the SSH session and login again then also I do not see any entry in auth.log is there any way other than rebooting the machine to make sure I keep getting the entries in /var/log/auth.log I am not sure which service writes in this file. This is a Ubuntu 10.04 server.

• OpenVPN Bridge LAN-to-LAN Configuration?

  I'm trying to configure an OpenVPN bridge LAN-to-LAN setup. Currently, I have the OpenVPN bridge Server/Client setup up running. On the server-side my br-lan interface has tap0, eth0, and wlan0 in the bridge group. On the client-side the br-lan interface has eth0 and wlan0 in the bridge group, the client tap0 is outside of the br-lan group. Currently the two bridge groups are connected via the wlanO interfaces (server-side is the Access Point - AP and the client-side is the wireless client). My goal is to connect the two bridge groups with a wireless VPN pipe. My network configuration: Server: br-lan: 10.4.96.50 Client: br-lan: 10.4.96.75 tap0: 10.4.96.100 <---- issued by the VPN server. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with using a bridge instead of a routed OpenVPN setup. My question is how (if possible) do I add the client tap0 interface to the client bridge group, as to ensure all traffic between the server/client bridge groups is using the VPN pipe?   I have a ISC DHCP Server installed on Ubuntu 9.10 . I have managed to successfully boot a PXE client , obtain a DHCP address and load the initrd.gz file. But I am facing a vague problem when the debian installer starts up and tries to get a DHCP server The client send a DHCP request and I verified that is the same MAC Address. But I get a DHCP DECLINE (The client declines the address ). It offers all the address in the pool and then there is a DHCP NAK (no more free leases ) I tried using the Option no-ping, and also option one-client-one-lease but it does not help . • Windows Server 2008 SMTP & POP3 Configuration

  This is the first time I have ever configured a VPS server without 3rd party applications such as Plesk control panel. I have got most functionality working in all my websites except I am very unsure as to how I can setup my email functionality on this new server. Basically I want the standard POP3 functionality, a bunch of accounts with private boxes, all able to send and receive emails using their individual usernames and passwords. My server setup is pretty simple, its a VPS with IIS & DNS Server running. What I have tried to do to setup SMTP & POP3 is adding the SMTP Server feature through the Server Manager Console (very unsure of the configuration as guides I found did not explain), I then installed a 3rd party application called Visdeno SMTP Extender as it claims to be a POP3 service providing accounting and the ability to communicate with email clients. That is as far as I have gotten as I can not seem to find too much information on the subject. So can someone please tell me how to go about configuring these services in order to provide standard SMTP & POP3 functionality? Thanks, Alex.

• Trouble with local id / remote id configuration of VPN

  I have a NetGear UTM firewall and a Windows machine running NetGear's VPN client. The Windows machine I can put on the UTM network and take off of it. When I am cabled into the local (internal) the following configuration works: UTM: Local Id: Local Wan IP: (The UTM's WAN IP address) Remote Id: User FQDN: utm_remote1.com Client: Local Id: DNS: utm_remote1.com Remote Id: (The UTM's WAN IP address) Gateway authentication: preshared key Policy remote endpoint: FQDN: utm_remote1.com But when I'm off the UTM's internal local network and simply coming in from the internet, this does not work. It simply repeats SEND phase 1 before giving up. Since I know that the UTM WAN IP is accessible from both inside and outside the network, I figured the problem was with the Client local id. So, I tried the following: UTM: Local Id: Local Wan IP: (The UTM's WAN IP address) Remote Id: (A DN of a self-signed certificate I created for the client and uploaded into the UTM certificates) Client: Local Id: (The DN of the aforementioned self signed cert) Remote Id: (The UTM's WAN IP address) Gateway authentication: (the aforementioned self signed cert) Policy remote end point: ... er, ... my choices are IP and FQDN.... Not sure what to put here No matter what I've tried, it just keeps repeating the SEND phase 1. Any ideas?

• What is optimal hardware configuration for heavy load LAMP application

  I need to run Linux-Apache-PHP-MySQL application (Moodle e-learning platform) for a large number of concurrent users - I am aiming 5000 users. By concurrent I mean that 5000 people should be able to work with the application at the same time. "Work" means not only do database reads but writes as well. The application is not very typical, since it is doing a lot of inserts/updates on the database, so caching techniques are not helping to much. We are using InnoDB storage engine. In addition application is not written with performance in mind. For instance one Apache thread usually occupies about 30-50 MB of RAM. I would be greatful for information what hardware is needed to build scalable configuration that is able to handle this kind of load. We are using right now two HP DLG 380 with two 4 core processors which are able to handle much lower load (typically 300-500 concurrent users). Is it reasonable to invest in this kind of boxes and build cluster using them or is it better to go with some more high-end hardware? I am particularly curious how many and how powerful servers are needed (number of processors/cores, size of RAM) what network equipment should be used (what kind of switches, network cards) any other hardware, like particular disc storage solutions, etc, that are needed Another thing is how to put together everything, that is what is the most optimal architecture. Clustering with MySQL is rather hard (people are complaining about MySQL Cluster, even here on Stackoverflow).

• XenServer: Editing clone configuration before boot

  Upon cloning a base image, I need to reconfigure basic settings. Regenerating the ssh host key, changing static IP assignments, setting the host name, etc. Because of the network setup, DHCP is not an option. That more or less rules out SSHing in with a predefined key or running a startup script since I can't provide the IP externally. I'd most like to mount the filesystem of the new machine on Dom0, but the lvm volumes are exported and it appears to be Bad Form to import them so the Dom0 machine can see them. What's your best suggestion for altering files in a cloned VM before boot? Must be non-interactive, and I'm going to guess out the gate that scripting access via xe console is not going to work well.

• Installation Error on Windows Vista: "Side-by-Side configuration is incorrect"

  NOTE: This is not a dupe of this other question. That question refers to a similar problem with 2 programs, while I'm only having it with 1, so the solution there doesn't apply to my situation. My relative asked me to install H&R Block 2009 on his Windows Vista 32-bit computer. I ran the installation program, which succeeded, but when I try to open the application itself, it gives me the following error: The application failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. Here are the steps I've done so far to try and remedy this problem: In elevated command prompt, run the command: sfc /scannow Uninstall H&R Block 2009 Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable by downloading from MSFT website Reinstall H&R Block 2009 This didn't fix it. I've searched for a long time and haven't found anything that works. The H&R Block site itself states that the way to fix this problem is to uninstall and reinstall H&R Block 2009. Has anyone run into this issue before? If so, how can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

• Desktop.ini Issues/Confusion

  BACKSTORY: I was out of town for a while and I forgot to turn my computer off. When I came back I saw that a desktop.ini file was on my desktop (using Windows 7). I thought that was odd because I knew it was a system file and it usually didn't show up due to the fact that I had disable the feature to show system files. Also it wasn't translucent like the other system files. I went to my control panel and saw that the "Hide protected operating system files" was indeed enabled. This puzzled me so I disabled the setting and another one was on my desktop like it usually is hidden. So now I have to desktop.ini files on my desktop: one hidden and one not hidden. I am doing an antivirus check to see if anything was going on and I will give an update soon. I am pretty sure these files are harmless and could be deleted but I would rather get another person's opinion on the subject. Thanks! UPDATE: I did an anti-virus scan and it seems I have no problems. It is odd because the file seems to maintain system file properties such as not being able to be edited and other things. Also I have tried restarting my computer and it is still not hidden. So the question remains: What should I do with the file and what caused it?
