    Given a charset string, such as "utf-8", "iso-8859-1", "us-ascii" etc, is there any built-in way to get the appropriate NSStringEncoding in Cocoa? Right now I'm looking at just building a NSDictionary containing a canonicalized version of the name mapped to the NSStringEncoding, then having a lookup mechanism that canonicalizes the input in the same way. But is there really no way to get NSUTF8StringEncoding given the string "UTF-8", etc?

    Hello, I have got something strange: This Code does NOT Work: cell.imvstatus.image = [UIImage imageNamed:[[tutorials objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"image"] ]; This code works: cell.imvstatus.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"ROR.png" ]; And in the object there is the value "ROR.png" Whats the problem at the above one? How can I find out a solution? Do i have to cast it to a string ?

    Hi guys - i was hopefully after some tips opposed to solutions as this is homework and i want to solve it myself I am firstly very new to C. In fact i have never done any before, though i have previous java experience from modules at university. I am trying to write a programme that converts a single integer in to binary. I am only allowed to use bitwise operations and no library functions Can anyone possibly suggest some ideas about how i would go about doing this. Obviously i dont want code or anything, just some ideas as to what avenues to explore as currenty i am a little confused and have no plan of attack.     I want to make a function that converts mixed numbers and fractions (as strings) to floats. Here's some examples: '1 1/2' -> 1.5 '11/2' -> 5.5 '7/8' -> 0.875 '3' -> 3 '7.7' -> 7.7 I'm currently using this function, but I think it could be improved. I tried select dbms_lob.substr( sqltext, 4000, 1 ) from test but this one selects only the first 4000 bytes. How to read the entire content ? there are more than 4000 characters in the sqltext column. Please advise.

    An open-source project I am working on uses Visio drawings for documentation, which are checked into source control. For those working on the project who don't own Visio, we have been converting the vsd files to PDFs so that they can still view them. It's not too difficult to save a copy as a PDF when making changes to the documentation, but we would like an automated way to do this conversion, so that we can set it up as a pre-checkin script in the SVN client. If anybody knows of a way to do this, either using something built-in to Visio, or with an outside script or command line tool, we would appreciate it. Edit: Thanks to the suggestion below, I have found the Visio Viewer 2010. This will be helpful for our contributors using Windows. We would still like to have the ability to create PDFs though, as there are readers available on every major operating system, and our contributors will not be using only Windows.

    I have a WCF service running, I added a reference to the service by using Add Service Reference in the solution explorer, and I checked the box for create asynchronous operations. My call works fine, I have a two way channel that reports back some events from the server and I am receiving the events.     I have a control that has a byte array in it. Every now and then there are two bytes that tell me some info about number of future items in the array. So as an example I could have: ... ... Item [4] = 7 Item [5] = 0 ... ... The value of this is clearly 7. But what about this? ... ... Item [4] = 0 Item [5] = 7 ... ... Any idea on what that equates to (as an normal int)? I went to binary and thought it may be 11100000000 which equals 1792. But I don't know if that is how it really works (ie does it use the whole 8 items for the byte). Is there any way to know this with out testing? Note: I am using C# 3.0 and visual studio 2008

    I'm writing a multi-threaded program that needs to be able to check if a row requires updating and act accordingly. I had problems using the built in date/time functions of MySql and so decided to just store the "lastupdate" timestamp as an integer in the table. However, I'm having problems converting this timestamp to time_t so that I can use the time functions with it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
