  • Where are AD registry settings

    As you might already know AD does not let you change the password through LDAP if you don't have a secure connection to AD. I heard that there is a registry setting to change this behavior but so far couldn't find where it is... Anyone of you know how can I can change this behavior?

  • Communication btwn active 3d glasses and source(s)?

    I know that 3d active shutter glasses work with infared or radio (radio = only bluetooth?). I know that both of them are harmfull but, with either of them, does only one signal get send, to just syncronize glasses with monitor, or the trnasmitter and glasses communicate the whole tiime? An infared/bluetooth transimition for a second(s) is tottaly acceptable, no complain at all, unless the transimition is the whole time.

  • Why are the Volume and other indicators missing on my eMachines eM355?

    I just bought an eMachines eM355. The default installed OS is MeeGo so I installed Windows 7 into it instead. The problem, however, is that, the on-screen indicators have disappeared. The ones I'm talking about are the small dark boxes that appear at the bottom part of the screen when you, for example, press Fn + Up Arrow (to adjust volume). The same goes for the brightness adjusting and the rest of the Fn key combinations. The keys do work but I'd still prefer to see a prompt on the screen. Another reason why I want to solve this is because I can't effectively toggle the Bluetooth and Wifi since I don't get any prompts when pressing Fn + F3. I wanted to include a picture of what I'm looking for but I couldn't find the exact term for such.

  • setting up a second monitor in centos

    I have CentOS installed on my laptop. I hooked up my TV via VGA and it works, just not as I'd like it to. The left side (on the tv) is cut off, like the image is justified too far left. I want it to be centered, but I also want to use a different resolution. You see, I use a netbook, and thus my laptop screen is tiny, meaning some things cant fit in the same window without scrolling. I want my TV to fix that for me.

    We have 5 usable external static IP addresses leased by our ISP: .49 to .53, where .49 is assigned to the Juniper SSG20 firewall and NATed for 172.16.10.0/24 .50 is assigned to a windows box for web server and domain controller .51 is assigned to another windows box with exchange server (domain: mycompany1.com) mx record is pointing to 20x.xx.xxx.51 Currently there is a policy set for all SMTP incoming traffic addressed to .51 forward to the NATed address of the exchange server box (private IP: 172.16.10.194). We can send and receive emails for both internal and external, but the gmail is saying mails from mycomany1.com is not sent from the same IP as the mx lookup however is from 20x.xx.xxx.49: Received-SPF: neutral (google.com: 20x.xx.xxx.49 is neither permitted nor denied by best guess record for domain of [email protected]) client-ip=20x.xx.xxx.49; Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=neutral (google.com: 20x.xx.xxx.49 is neither permitted nor denied by best guess record for domain of [email protected]) [email protected] and the mx record in global dns space as well as in the domain controller .50 for mail.mycompany1.com is set to 20x.xx.xxx.51 My attempt to resolve the above issue is to Update the mx record from 20x.xx.xxx.51 to 20x.xx.xxx.49 Create a new VIP for SMTP traffic addressed to 20x.xx.xxx.49 to forward to 172.16.10.194 After my changes incoming email stopped working, I believe it has something to do with the Juniper setting that SMTP addressed to .49 is not forwarded to 172.16.10.194 Also, I have been wondering is it mandatory to assign an external static IP address to the Juniper firewall? Any helps appreciated. TIA

  • Can I force my video card to work in a certain refresh rate?

    I have a GeForce GT 640 video card, but by default the screen flickers badly. And if I change the refresh rate to 59 Hz in NVIDIA Control Panel manually, everything is OK. I don't know why. Now the problem is, if the system restarts, the refresh rate become 60Hz, then the screen flicker is flickering. I need to change the refresh rate again. Can I keep the refresh rate to 59 Hz? Or it would be better if the screen doesn't flicker at 60 Hz.

I have a server with 3 NICs. 1 one of them has DNS information and two of them are in a private network not using DNS. It appears to be NameServer entry under System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPip\parameters\Interfaces\guid. Anywhere else that info would be found?

    In Windows 7, the window title's color (by default black, to see the title in the title bar fire up Windows Media Player for example) is stored in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\Colors] TitleText value. This is not the case in Windows 8, since this value is only used when using high contrast theme. It looks like noone has come up with a way to change this color yet, so my question is, where to look? What tools can I use to see dependencies, what could be the way to find this value (I rightfully hope it's not a constant in code).

  • Not getting native resolution of external monitor in Ubuntu

    Since there us a defect in my laptop screen, I am using an external Dell 1600x1000 monitor. Windows was recognizing the native resolution correctly. But when I installed Ubuntu 10.10, I get only up to 1024x768 in the Monitor preferences. I had a look at this and tried to add resolution by running xrandr --addmode VGA 1600×1000 but I am getting the error xrandr: cannot find output "VGA" What is the way out.

  • I modified my registry and now my laptop doesn't report its battery or power settings

    I saved a backup of my registry and then made a change to it. After the change, the Windows 7 battery meter no longer reported how much battery power was left. I also was no longer able to change between Power Profiles in the Control Panel. I tried to restore the original registry but it didn't restore the lost power features. Now I have to keep my laptop plugged in all day because I never know how much power I have left. Anyone know what to do here?

    This question is inspired by another SU question I came across earlier today: What to do with old hard drives? It made me think about two long-dead laptops I have with perfectly good screens still inside. One is a Dell Inspiron 5100 and the other is an Averatec E1200, but responses need not be geared towards those particular models' screens. Rules, based heavily on the original question's: Objectives and suggestions to keep in mind when you post an answer : Should showcase your geekiness, be plain ol' fun, serve a social purpose or benefit the community. Your answer need not be limited to only one screen. For a really good answer, I'll go out and buy additional leftover screens. Your answer need not be limited to one project per screen. If additional accessories need be purchased, make sure they are common. Don't tell me to get a moon rock or something. The projects you suggested should serve a useful purpose; art is nice, but functional art is way better. Thanks in advance, folks. EDIT: Found another related question. Fun projects to do with an old 17" LCD monitor EDIT 2: I, for one, am enjoying the new outpouring of creativity here. Best fifty bucks... I mean, rep points... I ever spent. EDIT 3: That does it. At the end of the week, there was a tie for most votes between the accepted answer and the game platform answer. The game platform answer was cooler, but less reasonable as a project to actually do; in other words, it was more moon rocky. Unfortunately, I think fencepost had the best comment on the topic, which is that displays on their own have no good interface. Thanks for playing, everyone!

    72 ppi is nothing. And we have been stuck with this for 20 years. Why do we need to resort to stupid tech like anti-aliasing instead of resolving the core of the issue, more pixels per inch!!! It is really surprising considering all the progress cpu's, video cards, etc. have made.

  • Windows 7 + NVidia == 640x480 on external projectors

    Hello, I'm having a major problem and I really need your help! I have a MacBook Air which has the NVidia 9400M. The problem is, when I connect it to an external projector Windows 7 (and Vista) only allow me to connect at 640x480. I need it to use the laptop to present at conferences, as such I need it to work on a number of different projectors - at the moment I need to use OSX and VMWare but it's painfully slow and really doesn't work. At the moment, I'm considering buying a new laptop :( Is there any way to override the screen resolutions provided? I've saw some information around EDID? Thanks Ben

  • Per-mailbox IMAP settings in Exchange 2003 apply successfully but revert to server default

    The title says most of it. I have a Spiceworks mailbox that connects to our Exchange Server 2003 box via IMAP for receiving help desk issues. But for complicated reasons, I want it to receive those emails in text-only format. So, I discovered that you can just go to: Exchange System Manager Administrative Groups First Administrative Group First Storage Group Mailbox Store Mailboxes Right-click the mailbox, Configure Exchange Features Edit the properties for IMAP Set that mailbox to only receive message bodies as plain text. I click OK, then Next, it reports success, and I assume I'm done. But then when I go right back to where I was, I see that "Use protocol defaults" is still checked. Anyone have a clue why this would be? Some other details: I'm logged in as Administrator when I do this. I can't change this setting for the entire IMAP virtual server because some regular users use it. I only have one IP address to play with, which means I can't create another IMAP virtual server. Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated!

    I have just acquired a server with: 2x quadcore Xeons 48G ECC RAM 5x 160GB SSDs on an LSI 9260-8i Before deploying the target platform, I'd like to collect as much benchmark data as possible, testing I/O with hardware RAID in various configurations, ZFS zRAID, as well as I/O performance on vSphere and with KVM virtualization. In order to see real disk I/O performance without cache effects, I tried running Iozone with a maximum file of more than twice the physical RAM as recommended in the documentation, so: iozone -a -g100G However, as one might expect, this takes far too long to be practicable. (I stopped the run after seven hours..) I'd like to reduce the range of record and file sizes to values that might reflect realistic performance for an application server, hopefully getting the run times to under an hour or so. Any ideas?     I'm in the UK, I've got a problem where I've got a list of dates supplied in US format. Excel seems to treat the ones that are valid in both formats as UK dates, (e.g. 03/01/2012 becomes 3rd of January rather that 1st March), and treat the ones that aren't valid UK dates (e.g. 03/13/2012) as basic text. I assume this choice is something to do with my regional settings. What I want is the system to recognise that this column of text is supplied in US date format, and convert it into the underlying date representation for calculations. How do I do this?

    I have got a laptop which is configured to have the user profile in a network drive. This is causing me a lot of headaches since the connectivity to my company is very slow. I want to relocate the profile of my user into a local directory. How do I do that? Those are the settings at the moment: C:\>set HOME HOMEDRIVE=P: HOMEPATH=\ HOMESHARE=\\SOMESERVER\_myuser$ The drive P is a network drive mapped to HOMESHARE. I can't find where windows is setting those environment variables, not even in the registry. The laptop is running Windows XP.

    I'm currently installing Windows 7 onto a new laptop before imaging it to deploy. I need to install the Wireless and Graphics drivers, but the HP site is offering me both ATI and Intel graphics drivers (at 102MB and 470(!)MB) a pop, as well as Intel, Broadcomm, RealTek and Atheros wireless drivers. Is there a bit of software that will tell me what devices are in the machine so I don't have to go through, trial-and-error and find which is the right driver for the hardware?

  • virtual host settings fail on multiple sites

    Wow. I'm puzzled. On my ubuntu system I've setup an apache2 server and configured three virtual hosts in the /etc/apache2/sites-available directory. a2ensite to symbolic link the sites-enabled. The first two work great; a simple url of localhost.mysitenames.com works great for the first two sites, both finding their DocumentRoot and Directory paths. The third always generates a Bad Request (Invalid Hostname) response. No server error.log as it never hits it. I've copied/pasted the working vhost files, made the minor changes to the ServerName, DocumentRoot and Directory and the same problem persists. I always "sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart" whenever I make a change. I've cleared the browser cache as well. No love. There's not a limit to the number of sites you can host, right? My goal was a localhost development environment with the expectation I can run any number of websites locally before pushing them to a live server. Any thoughts on how to debug this? Or, just a simple solution I am missing?
