  I recently bought a new computer (Asus 1015 cx) with Ubuntu (12.4) as preinstalled system. My problem is with the internet. The computer connects just fine to the free wifi we have at home, but in college, we have a little bit different system. There is wifi, but it is not free - everyone receives a user name and a password. I cant manage to estabilish this Pppoe connection - the computer "sees" where can it connect, but I dont know where to write my username and password. It is not the DSL connection, what I have already tried. Can you help me?

  In my cube world, I want to use octrees to represent my chunks of 20x20x20 cubes for frustum and occlusion culling. I understand how octrees work, I just dont know if I'm going about this the right way. My base octree class is taken from here: http://www.xnawiki.com/index.php/Octree What I'm wondering is how to apply occlusion culling using this class. Does it make sense to have one octree for each cube chunk? Or should I make the octree bigger? Since I'm using cubes, each cube should fit into a node without overlap so that won't be an issue

• EC2 AMI won't boot after edit

  I did something stupid, I got a new laptop and copied everything over to the new one, then wiped the old one clean. Then I realized that I forgot to copy the private key out of .ssh that I use to connect to my AWS EBS backed instance. So I can't log in to my custom AMI. So I created a new Volume from the Snapshot of the AMI, then started up a public instance and attached the Volume to it, edit the sshd_config to allow for password log in. Unmounted the volume, detached it, made a snapshot of it, then made a new AMI from the snapshot. The new AMI launches, but never passes the Status Checks and is not reachable. What am I doing wrong? Or alternatively how can I fix my problem? • What source control to use for my private gaming server?h

  It has sql server components, client launcher, server software. I want to use an online resource where people can make updates, and make it easier to roll out any changes to players. Most of the files are just text files, or gtx image files. I don't think this qualifies as open source, so I don't know what to do. I tried github, and have a free account there, but it was really clunky, mass adding every file to be comitted. I really dont' like subversion but if that's the best option, i'll use it. The other people who will need access to the files will have no familiarity with any kind of source control, so I need an easy system for them to download files, make changes, and comit to the repository. Any suggestions?

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10, and things were going great.. But suddenly, the wifi connection went extremely slow. I have a 20 M connection and normally download files al 1 MB/s or so.. but today i dont get any faster than 120 KB/s. Also, if i use wired connection, the speed goes normal. Following some advice on the net i changed network-manager with wicd, but the issue hasn't gone away Any clues? PD. my wireless card is Atheros AR9285

• Why is my Workspace switcher view skewed

  I have been using Workspace switcher in Ubuntu just fine but recently have encountered this problem. The windows in the switcher don't fill the screen. I must have pressed some combination of buttons somehow but can't find any information anywhere in regards to resizing them.   It took me a while to find out that with ubuntu-one I can sync only folders in my home-folder. On all other folders the ubuntu-one - option is available in preferences, but the actual actions are greyed out. All documents, pictures, music are on a folder called /data that is actually on a different partition. That makes it much easier when one wants to reinstall ubuntu.

• Ubuntu gets slower by the day

  Ive noticed that Ubuntu has been getting slower and slower to boot, launch programs, etc. I installed 12.04 about 4 months ago,now 12.10, running on a quad-core Q8300 Intel, 4GB Ram, and an 80GB WD IDE drive. For some reason (ever since 11.04), Ive noticed after installation, the speed is good. The longer I have the OS installed, every bootup gets slower and slower, launching programs get slower, frame rates change radically(onboard GF9400 gets anywhere from 60fps down to 12 in worst cases). I would think maybe the HD is the issue, however I installed 11.10 on a 160GB SATA, and the same thing occurred. Looking at system resources, I'm holding steady at 1GB memory usage (I have 4GB, but it's actually showing 3.6GB, dunno why), no swap usage, and using right around 4% on cpu currently. HD capacity is only 28% used. Has anyone else ran into this issue? I love Ubuntu to death, but using other distros other than Ubuntu, I dont have this problem.

  When I try to go to a virtual console (ctrl alt f1) and return to f7, my screen freaks out. Its black with frequent white 'lightning bolts' flashing across the screen. Nothing works, but to force shutdown. Same when trying to resume from suspend. This doesnt happen every time, but very often.   I'm working on an adventure game in win32 and opengl for my 2nd year university project for class. I am pretty much finished my game but I'm stuck on the concept of how to program a timer which outputs hh : mm : ss -- but which countdown, not up. I've made a clock which counts up using vector matrices and the segxseg matrix algorithm but I cannot figure out how to make a clock (it can be simple even text using wsprintf) that counts down in that format. Can anyone possible give me an example or some literature that I can read on how to do this? Please dont suggest for me to use another environment, I've already been working here for 2 months on this game, and I'm pretty much done so i'm at no point to switch over. • movement of sprites with kinect and xna

  im working on a proyect with kinect sdk and xna 4.0. i need take the position of the hands and draw a sprite over it. im doing it directly and, because of that, i get a "trembling hands" effect. so, i was thinking on make the sprite move from the previous position to the new one, given in every frame by the new hand position. this way, the sprite does not jump from one position to another. this is working just fine, but im using a constant value for the velocity, and i really would like to use a variable velocity given by the difference between the prev and the new position. this is, if the hand move more quickly in the reality, the velocity will be higher. I really dont have a clue on how to make this works. can somebody point me in the right direction? thanks.
