    I've got an existing software package that runs on Ubuntu that uses a chroot jail and so needs to be run as root. I want to exec this from Tomcat6 on Ubuntu, so presumably I have to run Tomcat6 as root instead of the Tomcat6 user. How do I go about changing tomcat6 to run as root instead of the tomcat6 user?

  • resolv.conf not working properly with Ethernet in Ubuntu

    I have a Lenovo X200 laptop on which I am running Ubuntu 9.10. Recently, (I assume after some updating, but I really don't know) my ethernet port stopped working under Linux. A more tech/linux-savvy friend of mine was able to temporarily fix the problem by manually editing the resolv.conf file with the DNS servers he found through his connection. However, after rebooting, the problem came back and now I am looking for a more permanent solution.

  • Exchange backup size larger then file size

    My backupexec is setup to integrate with exchange, to backup the information store, versus just backing up the data file path. My exchange mdbdata folder is 17 gigs. But my backup exec is backing up 40 gigs worth of data. I have gone through it a million times, and it's strictly backing up exchange information store. I deleted all my backups and started over, to clear the incremental backup old data. Where is all this extra data coming from?

  • iTunes Album Artwork not available in all Sizes

    I used iTunes and everything worked fine until today. When I try to display Large / Medium artwork, not all the artworks are displayed. However, when I try to display the small artworks, everything works. Large (buggy): Small (normal): Is there a way to fix this? Tech Specs: iTunes on Windows 7 x64, v. 10.3.1. All the artworks are stored locally on my hard drive (.jpg files (i added them manually)).

    I'm trying to write an upstart file for OpenConnect. The task is pretty simple, but I'm stuck because I don't want to provide the username and password in a config file, but prompt the user to provide them each time. The upstart file, placed in /etc/init/openconnect.conf is exec /usr/sbin/openconnect --script=/etc/vpnc/vpnc-script my-gw.example.com However, when I execute start openconnect the process is backgrounded immediately and I get no chance to provide input. How can I make this upstart job ask the user for input?

Any ideas?

I would like to have a menu system that lets the tech select what version of the OS they would like to install and version (x86/x64). I know you can run the windows 2008 setup, and exit to command prompt, but I would like there to just be a menu that will kick off whichever script needed. What would be the best way to do this?     I would like monit to monitor my service and once it's stopped then I want the computer to reboot. The process don't have a certain port that I can monitor. This is what I did: check process chat with pidfile /var/run/chat.pid start program = "/etc/init.d/chat start" stop program = "/etc/init.d/chat stop" if changed ppid then exec /sbin/reboot I tried all sort of things but it only restart my service. Any suggestion.

  • Explorer: programmatically select file/directory with space in the path

    When I try to select a file or directory which has a space in its path in the Windows Explorer, it selects a completely different directory: explorer.exe "/select,C:\Program Files\foobar" I've tried it from Java with Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[] { "explorer.exe", "/select," + filePath }); and with the above command line. In both cases, the same result. What can I do to solve the problem?

  • Upstart script not working on Ubuntu

    I'm trying to write an upstart script to start orbited on startup. The script is as follows: #orbited start on startup stop on shutdown script exec /usr/local/bin/orbited --config=/etc/orbited.cfg end script When I run upstart orbited I get something like this: orbited start/running, process 605 But when I run status orbited right after doing that I get: orbited stop/waiting The script fails to start even though it says it's running. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Can't create admin user on Heroku

    I am new to rails and I have gone through Kevin Skoglund's Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training course on Lynda.com. Through the course you set up a simple cms, which I did. It doesn't cover Git or deployment but I've pushed my simple cms to github (https://github.com/nick5a1/Simple_CMS) and deployed to Heroku (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/). In order to deploy to Heroku I followed the Heroku setup guide (https://devcenter.heroku.com/articles/rails3) and switched my database from MySQL to PostgreSQL. As instructed I changed gen'mysql2' to gen 'sqlite3' in my Gemfile and ran bundle install before pushing. I then ran heroku run rake db:migrate. I'm running into 2 problems. When I try to log in (http://nkarrasch.herokuapp.com/access) I get an error "We're sorry, but something went wrong". I should instead be getting a flash message with invalid username/password combination. This is what I'm getting on my test environment on my local machine. Secondly, when I log into the Heroku console to create and create an admin user, when I try to save that user I get the following error: irb(main):004:0> user.save (1.2ms) BEGIN AdminUser Exists (1.9ms) SELECT 1 AS one FROM "admin_users" WHERE "admin_users"."username" = 'Nick5a1' LIMIT 1 (1.7ms) ROLLBACK => false Any advice on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated :).   • Is this common practice for disk quotas on virtual dedicated servers?

    Hello, I was a bit surprised when I purchased a VPS with 15GB of storage to find that am left with very little space after Windows' 13GB footprint. I can't even install SQL Server. Tech support is saying this is normal. I know that if they felt like it they could remove Windows from the quota or adjust it accordingly. Is this a common practice or should I further pursue the issue with customer service?

I'm running the latest OSX 10.6.6 and the latest Zend Server CE for Mac.     I have a quite fresh install of the Apache (2.2.3/Centos) + PHP(5.1.6) and following problem: I need to monitor life of one process and in order to do that I run: $last_line = exec('ps -C snmpd'); and check its output. Unfortunately I always get nothing. I've checked it with other process names and it seems it can 'see' only Apache's processes. Any idea how to work this out?
