  There should be a standard for saving viewing bunches of webpages as a website. For instance, say I have a whole bunch of pages, such as I get from the WordPress plugin "Really Static" which saves an entire site, and I have all the links start with a slash. Now, I can't really use those links if I am reading it from the file system. If there would be a standard where we could zip up files, give them a unique extension (like "hzip" for html zip), and open the file with any browser, which would display it as though the root of that file were the root of the pages. "http://example.com" The links would all work right. This would facilitate sharing and copying groups of webpages.

• jQuery exclude elements with certain class in selector

  I want to setup a click event trigger in jQuery for certain anchor tags. I want to open certain links in a new tab while ignoring ones with a certain class (before you ask I cannot put classes on the links I am trying to catch as they come from a CMS). I want to exclude links with class "button" OR "generic_link" I have tried $(".content_box a[class!=button]").click(function (e) { e.preventDefault(); window.open($(this).attr('href')); }); But that doesn't seem to work, also how do I do an OR statement to include "generic_link" in the exclusion? • How to simulate a mouse click in Cocoa for the iPhone?

  I'm trying to setup automated unit tests for an iPhone application. I'm using a UIWebBrowser and need to simulate clicks on different links. I've tried doing this with JavaScript, but it doesn't produce the same results as when the I manually click on the links. The main problem is with links that have their target property set. I believe the only way for this automated unit test to work correctly is to simulate a mouse click at a specific x/y coordinate (i.e. where the link is located). Since the unit testing will only be used internally, private API calls are fine. It seems like this should be possible since the iPhone app isimulate seems to do something similar. Is there any way to do this in the framework?

  For those of us that have programmed enough I’m sure we have come across many different flavours of coding standards that you can use when it comes to programming. e.g. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229042.aspx You might derive your coding standards for the current company you work for or from the original author of the code you’re working on. Coding styles are often used for specific program languages and some styles in one coding language might not be considered appropriate for others. Of course some coding standards can be applied across many different program languages.   I have a set of files with multiple links to them. The files are owned by TFS source control but other links to them are made to them. How do I delete the additional links without clearing the readonly bit. It's safe to assume: The files have more than one link to them You are not deleting the name owned by TFS There are no potential race conditions You have ACL full control for the files The machine will not lose power, nor will your program be killed unless it takes way too long. It's not safe to assume: The readonly bit is set (don't set it if its not) You can leave the readonly bit clear if you encounter an error and it was initially set Do not migrate to superuser -- if migrated there the answer is impossible because no standard tool can do this.

• firefox open local link to directory with explorer

  On a Website for our internal use i show links to local files and folders. the links are like this: href="file://C:/example/" href="file://C:/example/test.odt" The Problem is now that the link to the directory does open in firefox itself with a useless directory listing. Useless because you can just see the files or open them but not copy, insert, delete... The link to the file work normal and the file is opend by OpenOffice. By changing the configuration of firefox and setting the following key to false I can open the directory in with explorer.exe but for the file I have to choose the right application. network.protocol-handler.expose.file Does someone know a way to get both to work like i want? Means that the Directory is shown by explorer.exe and all files are opened by the right application. This can be by configuring Firefox or windows, changing the links, or even by writing a small program which opens all the file protocol correctly and will be used as protocol handler for the file protocol in firefox.   Hi, i am planning to upload a video tutorial on a particular software technology. The size of the videos will be around 600 MB's to say 1 GB. I am putting it for free for anyone to download. Is there any site/blog where i can put it.I am planning to divide the videos in parts and zip them. Does blogger or any other cms allow me to upload to there sites and put download links? Or is buying web space the only option? I am not keen on using youtube as i clearly want the user to download by clicking on links and not watch them online. Also i was thinking of just uploading the videos on rapidshare/megaupload/mediafire... and put just links on a blogger post. Any suggestion from you guys?

  i am currently developing a crawler that crawls all links on the web and displays them in the web browser (and saving it of course). but after some hours there will be a huge list displayed on the web browser and i want to only display lets say 1000 links at the same time. then i clear the html and display another 1000 links. this is also good for the RAM or it will eat up all memory. how do i clear the web browser screen? EDIT: i have seen some scripts using some flush buffer functions. has this anything to do with my case?

  I have set up Zend Server CE on a windows machine and am having the hardest time setting up virtual hosts. No matter what I do, links on my local machine are showing "localhost" in the path causing all images and links to not work properly. • Parsing a website

  I want to make a program that takes as user input a website address. The program then goes to that website, downloads it, and then parses the information inside. It outputs a new html file using the information from the website. Specifically, what this program will do is take certain links from the website, and put the links in the output html file, and it will discard everything else. Right now I just want to make it for websites that don't require a login, but later on I want to make it work for sites where you have to login, so it will have to be able to deal with cookies. I'll also want to later on have the program be able to explore certain links and download information from those other sites. What are the best programming languages or tools to do this?

• JQuery: which element was clicked?

  I have a list with links. These links are links to tables on the same page. What I want to do is whatever link I click in the list it will show its corresponding table and hide all the others. Without adding a different id/class to each link in the list and its corresponding table, is there a way to find out which element was clicked and show() its table? From what I understand JQuery returns an array object on its selector. How can I find out what element of the array was clicked? I've tried to use event.which but I'm a little lost. Help is greatly appreciated!

  Hi, I've just started to use Sharepoint 2007, MOSS is installed but for the extranet I'm working on the publishing isn't switched on. What I need to do is customise the global navigation so that it displays all top level & subsite links, custom links and format it nicely with css for the brand. Sounds easy but it isn't for some reason! I've been reading numerous blogs and things about it but can't seem to find anything other than writing lots of code (which I don't mind) to hook into the API or use a customer provider which sounds extreme for something so simple. I was wondering what are the options for this and any good links to articles appreciated so I can finally get this simeple task done. I see the MOSS navigation has extra options for global navigation but I presume as this isn't enabled I couldn't use the same code/control in the master page? Thanks Dan

• Add CSS Class to link based on Character Count with jquery

  I have links that load dynamically onto a background to make them look like buttons. Some of the links take up two lines and some of the links take up 1 line. Eithe way they need to be vertically centered. My plan to to append a class based on the number of characters and then adjust the padding from there. So if the link's text is 25 characters (including spaces) or less - append class 'small' if the link's text is greater than 25 characters - append class 'large' How would I go about doing this with jQuery?

The url rewrite function works on the original DOM in all browsers. • Good link checking tool?

  Hi all Can anyone recommend a good, free link checker to check all pages within a domain? Ideally a browser add-on or a web app (otherwise something that runs on OSX). Crucially it needs to follow links recursively within a domain. Links outside the domain should be followed to a depth of 1, but not checked recursively. This is for the fairly common situation where you want to check all pages on your own site, but not evaluate the links on e.g. Google's homepage. I can't find anything suitable. Am I missing something? I've tried the Firefox LinkChecker add-on and the W3C link validator - neither seem to have the 'follow recursively within a domain' property, or am I being dumb? I know Xenu does this, but I don't run Windows.

I want to load those results in a div on the same page.. • Not responding to events?

  I currently have three Divs and only one of them is in focus at a given time. All of them line up in a film strip fashion. When I click a DIV not in focus, the current one moves to the left or right (depending on the direction) and the new one comes into focus. The divs can have content that has links. So my problem is that upon clicking on the divs not in focus, if I happen to click on a link, the event is captured. Is there anyway I can disable event detection for divs not in focus? What I am looking for is something like: if(div not in focus) disable all links if (div comes into focus) enable all links

  How can I stop ASP.Net from encoding anchor tags in List Items when the page renders? I have a collection of objects. Each object has a link property. • getting real link from rss feed link

  I am experimenting with scraping certain pages from an RSS feed using curl and php. The page scraping was working fine when I was just using actual links, not links from the rss feeds. However, I realize now that links in rss feeds are usually just redirects to the actual page (at least this is what it seems like). Because now when I scrape a page with the rss link, it doesn't actually get the information I am looking for. Has anyone encountered this and know of a workaround. Is there anyway to see where the rss link is redirecting to and capturing that value?

• Using DataPager Control with AJAX and SEO

  I've just taken my first stab at making a ListView, ObjectDataSource, and DataPager run in an AJAX panel. I had trouble getting it to work until I removed the QueryStringField="page" attribute from the DataPager. This attribute causes the current page to be passed as a query argument in the URL. For obvious reasons, I guess that won't work when posting back using AJAX. Now my question is if this hurts my SEO. When I used QueryStringField, the page links appeared as regular links with various query arguments. But now the links are just javascript. Haven't I hurt a search engine's ability to scan related pages? Or is there another approach to this?

• Redirecting a large number of URLs with htaccess or php header

  I have undergone a major website overhaul and now have 5,000+ incoming links from search engines and external sites, bookmark services etc that lead to dead pages or 404 errors. A lot of the pages have corresponding "permalinks" or known replacement hierarchy/URL structure. I've started to list the main redirects with htaccess or physical files with simply a header location reidrect which is clearly not sustainable! What would be the best method to list all of the old link addresses and their corresponding new addresses with htaccess, php headers, mysql, sitemap file or is it better to have all broken links and wait for search engines etc to re-index my site? Are there any implications for having a large number of redirecting files for this temporary period until links are reset?
