  • How do I do multiple assignment in MATLAB?

    - by Benjamin Oakes
    Here's an example of what I'm looking for: >> foo = [88, 12]; >> [x, y] = foo; I'd expect something like this afterwards: >> x x = 88 >> y y = 12 But instead I get errors like: ??? Too many output arguments. I thought deal() might do it, but it seems to only work on cells. >> [x, y] = deal(foo{:}); ??? Cell contents reference from a non-cell array object. How do I solve my problem? Must I constantly index by 1 and 2 if I want to deal with them separately?

  • Numpy modify array in place?

    - by User
    I have the following code which is attempting to normalize the values of an m x n array (It will be used as input to a neural network, where m is the number of training examples and n is the number of features). However, when I inspect the array in the interpreter after the script runs, I see that the values are not normalized; that is, they still have the original values. I guess this is because the assignment to the array variable inside the function is only seen within the function. How can I do this normalization in place? Or do I have to return a new array from the normalize function? import numpy def normalize(array, imin = -1, imax = 1): """I = Imin + (Imax-Imin)*(D-Dmin)/(Dmax-Dmin)""" dmin = array.min() dmax = array.max() array = imin + (imax - imin)*(array - dmin)/(dmax - dmin) print array[0] def main(): array = numpy.loadtxt('test.csv', delimiter=',', skiprows=1) for column in array.T: normalize(column) return array if __name__ == "__main__": a = main()

  • How do you efficiently generate a list of K non-repeating integers between 0 and an upper bound N

    - by tucuxi
    The question gives all necessary data: what is an efficient algorithm to generate a sequence of K non-repeating integers within a given interval. The trivial algorithm (generating random numbers and, before adding them to the sequence, looking them up to see if they were already there) is very expensive if K is large and near enough to N. The algorithm provided here seems more complicated than necessary, and requires some implementation. I've just found another algorithm that seems to do the job fine, as long as you know all the relevant parameters, in a single pass.

  • Pass 2d array to function in C?

    - by Evelyn
    I know it's simple, but I can't seem to make this work. My function is like so: int GefMain(int array[][5]) { //do stuff return 1; } In my main: int GefMain(int array[][5]); int main(void) { int array[1800][5]; GefMain(array); return 0; } I referred to this helpful resource, but I am still getting the error "warning: passing argument 1 of GefMain from incompatible pointer type." What am I doing wrong?

  • Creating an array & outputting its code definition for preloading

    - by user422318
    I want to create a 2d array that represents my 2d canvas. For each pixel, I will look up the value and then save an integer {0, 1, 2, 3, 4} as each element of the array. Unfortunately, this takes way too friggin' long to run each time I load the game. How can I write a script that creates this array for me and outputs the array code so I can just paste it in a js file and have it preloaded? (I'm prototyping a game, so I just need to run this for my test map or two.)

  • Placing PHP array values into a javascript array?

    - by Michael Harringon
    Is these a way i can loop through a PHP array and have the data outputted into a JavaScript array? For example, the JS script below will not work var mon_Loop = <?php echo $rowCount_Mon ?>; var mon_Events = new Array(); for(i = 0; i < mon_Loop; i++) { mon_Events[i] = <?php $divMon[i] ?> } I Know its because the "i" is not a php variable so therefore invalid inside the php section, but its just an way to show what i would like to achieve. The $rowCount variable count the number of rows and is then used to for the loop. Lets say, for example that I want to place the contents of the PHP array "$divMon[0]" into the javascript array mon_Events[0]. I know that i can do it manually, like below mon_Events[0] = <?php echo $divMon[0] ?> But i have lots of these and therefore need the loop, Is there some JS or PHP that could do this? Cheers.

    Hi. I have an array where the keys represent each column in my database. Now I want a function that makes a mysql update query. Something like $db['money'] = $money_input + $money_db; $db['location'] = $location $query = 'UPDATE tbl_user SET '; for($x = 0; $x < count($db); $x++ ){ $query .= $db something ".=." $db something } $query .= "WHERE username=".$username."   • JavaScript Loop and wait for function

    - by Fluidbyte
    I have a simple single-dimension array, let's say: fruits = ["apples","bananas","oranges","peaches","plums"]; I can loop thru with with $.each() function: $.each(fruits, function(index, fruit) { showFruit(fruit); }); but I'm calling to another function which I need to finish before moving on to the next item. So, if I have a function like this: function showFruit(fruit){ $.getScript('some/script.js',function(){ // Do stuff }) } What's the best way to make sure the previous fruit has been appended before moving on?

  • Populating a PHP array within a foreach loop

    - by patrick
    I am wanting to add each user into an array and check for duplicates before I do. $spotcount = 10; for ($topuser_count = 0; $topuser_count < $spotcount; $topuser_count++) //total spots { $spottop10 = $ids[$topuser_count]; $top_10 = $gowalla->getSpotInfo($spottop10); $usercount = 0; $c = 0; $array = array(); foreach($top_10['top_10'] as $top10) //loop each spot { //$getuser = substr($top10['url'],7); //strip the url $getuser = ltrim($top10['url'], " users/" ); if ($usercount < 3) //loop only certain number of top users { if (($getuser != $userurl) && (array_search($getuser, $array) !== true)) { //echo " no duplicates! <br /><br />"; echo ' <a href= "http://gowalla.com'.$top10['url'].'"><img width="90" height="90" src= " '.$top10['image_url'].' " title="'.$top10['first_name'].'" alt="Error" /></a> '; $array[$c++] = $getuser; } else { //echo "duplicate <br /><br />"; } } $usercount++; } print_r($array); } The previous code prints: Array ( [0] => 62151 [1] => 204501 [2] => 209368 ) Array ( [0] => 62151 [1] => 33116 [2] => 122485 ) Array ( [0] => 120728 [1] => 205247 [2] => 33116 ) Array ( [0] => 150883 [1] => 248551 [2] => 248558 ) Array ( [0] => 157580 [1] => 77490 [2] => 52046 ) Which is wrong. It does check for duplicates, but only the contents of each foreach loop instead of the entire array. How is this if I am storing everything into $array?

  • replace a random word of a string with a random replacement

    - by tpickett
    I am developing a script that takes an article, searches the article for a "keyword" and then randomly replaces that keyword with an anchor link. I have the script working as it should, however I need to be able to have an array of "replacements" for the function to loop through and insert at the random location. So the first random position would get anchor link #1. The second random position would get anchor link #2. The third random position would get anchor link #3. etc... I found half of the answer to my question here: PHP replace a random word of a string public function replace_random ($str, $search, $replace, $n) { // Get all occurences of $search and their offsets within the string $count = preg_match_all('/\b'.preg_quote($search, '/').'\b/', $str, $matches, PREG_OFFSET_CAPTURE); // Get string length information so we can account for replacement strings that are of a different length to the search string $searchLen = strlen($search); $diff = strlen($replace) - $searchLen; $offset = 0; // Loop $n random matches and replace them, if $n < 1 || $n > $count, replace all matches $toReplace = ($n < 1 || $n > $count) ? array_keys($matches[0]) : (array) array_rand($matches[0], $n); foreach ($toReplace as $match) { $str = substr($str, 0, $matches[0][$match][1] + $offset).$replace.substr($str, $matches[0][$match][1] + $searchLen + $offset); $offset += $diff; } return $str; } So my question is, How can i alter this function to accept an array for the $replace variable?

  • need some tips on Drupal $form value

    - by bert
    I got dpm($form) working. Nice! This is much better way to view data. I am still trying to figure out where stuff is coming from eg: location longitude & latitude. The word 'longitude' is referenced in 20 different places. I thought this was a likely place to isolate text box for this input field. dpm($form['#field_info']['field_store_latitude']['location_settings']['form']['fields']); Any tips on how to track down individual input elements?

  • How memset initializes an array of integers by -1?

    - by haccks
    The manpage says about memset: #include <string.h> void *memset(void *s, int c, size_t n) The memset() function fills the first n bytes of the memory area pointed to by s with the constant byte c. It is clear that memset can't be used to initialize int array as shown below: int a[10]; memset(a, 1, sizeof(a)); it is because int is represented by 4 bytes (say) and one can not get the desired value for the integers in array a. But I often see the programmers use memset to set the int array elements to either 0 or -1. int a[10]; int b[10]; memset(a, 0, sizeof(a)); memset(b, -1, sizeof(b)); As per my understanding, initializing with integer 0 is OK because 0 can be represented in 1 byte (may be I am wrong in this context). But how it is possible to initialize b with -1 (a 4 bytes value)?

  • Randomly generate sound from onClick and onShake events?

    - by Aaron
    I've literally looked everywhere on the net and found very little clarification on how to do this. Pretty much, I have 8 sound files laid out in an array.xml file and I need to play a randomly chosen file ONCE per or onClick or onShake. First off, what technique should I use to achieve this? ARRAY-RANDOM- STRING-PLAY? RANDOM INT-PLAY? RANDOM INT-STRING-PLAY? Any kind of direction will help greatly cause I'm almost 3 weeks worth of research into this. *NOTE: MediaPlayer mp = MediaPlayer.create(JelloMan.this, R.raw.sound) ...is what I'm stuck on being you can't replace the "R.raw" part with a string...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

  • Display Yearly Report When Data Not Available (CI, PHP, MySQL)

    - by tegaralaga
    First of all, i do apologize for my bad english, cos english isn't my native language. I want to display yearly report based on month, let say i got order on January, August, December, but the rest there's no order. So in MySQL database only have 3 order (Jan,Aug,Dec). When i query use CI ( select month(order_date) as month_name , count(order_id) as amount from order where year(order_date)=2011 group by month(order_date) ) there's only 3 data let say the 3 data is (use $query-result_array()) Array ( [0] => Array ( [month_num] => 1 [amount] => 4 ) [1] => Array ( [month_num] => 8 [amount] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [month_num] => 12 [amount] => 19 ) ) how to make it to 12 data (12 Month) the array become like this (when data not available the amount is 0) Array ( [0] => Array ( [month_num] => 1 [amount] => 4 ) [1] => Array ( [month_num] => 2 [amount] => 0 ) [2] => Array ( [month_num] => 3 [amount] => 0 ) etc ) Thanks in advance :)

  • How do I perform this MutliArray setup in Java?

    - by Andy Barlow
    I come from a PHP background and I'm just getting my teeth into some Java. I was wondering how I could implement the following in Java as simply as possible, just echoing the results to a terminal via the usual "System.out.print()" method. <?php $Results[0]['title'] = "No Country for Old Men"; $Results[0]['run_time'] = "122 mins"; $Results[0]['cert'] = "15"; $Results[1]['title'] = "Old School"; $Results[1]['run_time'] = "88 mins"; $Results[1]['cert'] = "18"; // Will basically show the above in order. foreach($Results as value) { echo $Results[$value]['title']; echo $Results[$value]['run_time']; echo $Results[$value]['cert']; } // Lets add some more as I need to do this in Java too $Results[2]['title'] = "Saving Private Ryan"; $Results[2]['run_time'] = "153 mins"; $Results[2]['cert'] = "15"; // Lets remove the first one as an example of another need $Results[0] = null; ?> I hear there are "list iterators" or something that are really good for rolling through data like this. Perhaps it could be implemented with that? A fully working .java file would be most handy in this instance, including how to add and remove items from the array like the above. P.S. I do plan on using this for an Android App in the distant future, so, hopefully it should all work on Android fine too, although, I imagine this sort of thing works on anything Java related :).

  • How to save a HTMLElement (Table) in localStorage?

    - by Hagbart Celine
    I've been trying this for a while now and could not find anything online... I have a project, where tablerows get added to a table. Works fine. Now I want to save the Table in the localStorage, so I can load it again. (overwrite the existing table). function saveProject(){ //TODO: Implement Save functionality var projects = []; projects.push($('#tubes table')[0].innerHTML); localStorage.setItem('projects', projects); //console.log(localStorage.getItem('projects')); The problem is the Array "projects" has (after one save) 2000+ elements. But all I want is the whole table to be saved to the first (or appending later) index. In the end I want the different Saves to be listed on a Option element: function loadSaveStates(){ alert('loading saved states...'); var projects = localStorage.getItem('projects'); select = document.getElementById('selectSave'); //my Dropdown var length = projects.length, element = null; console.log(length); for (var i = 0; i < length; i++) { element = projects[i]; var opt = document.createElement('option'); opt.value = i; opt.innerHTML = 'project ' + i; select.appendChild(opt); } } Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

  • Fastest way to represent a collection of bits in PHP?

    - by Piskvor
    What is a good way to represent a collection of bits? I have a set of various on/off toggles (thousands of them) and need to store and retrieve their state. The naïve implementation would be an array of booleans, but I'm wondering if there's a better way (better in terms of access speed and/or memory requirements). I've found this BitArray implementation, but it's limited to 32 bits, which is not enough for this case.

  • How do I flatten an associative array into an array with only values in PHP?

    - by aalaap
    I have an array that has keys and values. For eg: Array ( [name] => aalaap [age] => 29 [location] => mumbai ) I want to convert the keys from this into values, but I want the values to apear right after the keys. For eg: Array ( [0] => name [1] => aalaap [2] => age [3] => 29 [4] => location [5] => mumbai ) I can easily write an iteration function that will do this... for eg: array_flatten($arr) { foreach ($arr as $arrkey => $arrval) { $arr_new[] = $arrkey; $arr_new[] = $arrval; } return $arr_new; } ...but I'm trying to find out if there's any way this can be accomplished using array_combine, array_keys, array_values and/or array_merge, preferably in one, so i don't need to use a custom function. Is there?

Because I tried a lot of ways, and nothing works, maybe someone can explain for me.

  • c++ optimize array of ints

    - by a432511
    I have a 2D lookup table of int16_t. int16_t my_array[37][73] = {{**DATA HERE**}} I have a mixture of values that range from just above the range of int8_t to just below the range of int8_t and some of the values repeat themselves. I am trying to reduce the size of this lookup table. What I have done so far is split each int16_t value into two int8_t values to visualize the wasted bytes. int8_t part_1 = original_value >> 4; int8_t part_2 = original_value & 0x0000FFFF; // If the upper 4 bits of the original_value were empty if(part_1 == 0) wasted_bytes_count++; I can easily remove the zero value int8_t that are wasting a byte of space and I can also remove the duplicate values, but my question is how do I do remove those values while retaining the ability to lookup based on the two indices? I contemplated translating this into a 1D array and adding a number following each duplicated value that would represent the number of duplicates that were removed, but I am struggling with how I would then identify what is a lookup value and what is a duplicate count. Also, it is further complicated by stripping out the zero int8_t values that were wasted bytes. EDIT: This array is stored in ROM already. RAM is even more limited than ROM so it is already stored in ROM. EDIT: I am going to post a bounty for this question as soon as I can. I need a complete answer of how to store the information AND retrieve it. It does not need to be a 2D array as long as I can get the same values. EDIT: Adding the actual array below:
