• Locate a user's bashrc file

  Really confused. Upon running cat etc/passwd I have found this: postgres:x:117:126:PostgreSQL administrator,,,:/var/lib/postgresql:/bin/bash meaning I have a postgres user, right? I want to change the bashrc environment file of this user to make commands available to it. /var/lib/postgresql doesn't contain a bashrc file, and /bin/bash doesn't contain it either, so I don't really know what's going on. All I know is a created postgres using the useradd command, so why do I have some weird user with no home directory? So confused :(

  I need to run a few perl scripts from a Java GUI application. I am using Runtime API to do that. However, few of the perl scripts need to run under a specific user account to have special credentials to access specialized resources (e.g. Database, Files). I have heard of alleviating user access using UAC. But till now I am not able to find the solution. Please help me on how to run a process under a different user login. Is there anything similar to c# impersonization in Java?

  I'm developing a standalone application using java, I have a Login screen, wherein user enters his username and password. For each instance of the application, user have to enter his credentials. From a usability standpoint, I thought of keeping a remember me check Button. My question is, as I am not using any database, how do I persist the user details. I have some rough thoughts, storing them in a property file and retrieving. I think there may be better approaches than the one I had. Any Ideas and suggestions?

But I don't want to manually meddle with each VM after its creation

• Identifying connected lines drawn free-hand by a user

  I have a series of 'images' described by a mixture of connected lines and curves. Users will draw on the screen, free hand, and my goal is to break their drawing down into a series of lines and curves that can be matched with the 'images' in my set. For the sake of simplicity, let's assume this is occurring on a touch screen. These lines will be connected. Each time the user's finger moves, the dx and dy is recorded. The drawing is considered complete and analyzed when the user's finger leaves the screen. I'm having trouble figuring out a good way to break the user's drawing down into lines. Is there any well known approach to this problem, a C++ library that solves it, or any good articles/technical papers on how to achieve this?

(We provide software to lending companies and our larger customers are required to buy redundant servers to host their application). What we are trying to work out right now is how to create user generated subdomains that will hold a new instance of the software. So a user will be able to sign up and say that the company name is XYZ Credit once they click on the create account button a url of xyzcredit.ourcompanyname.com is created and the user is redirected to it.   In my game, I want to provide the user with a drawing feature. By free hand drawing, the user creates a polygon shape. Then, in my game implementation, I have to create a body for the found vertices and generate an image based on that polygon shape. My problem is how to create an image that matches the user-provided vertices. I've heard that cocos2d has something called Image Masking. I don't understand how I could implement it in AndEngine. • Retrieve a user's Exchange database in powershell

  Hey Everyone, I've scoured the interwebs for a few days now off and on to find this. I am creating a powershell script for email-enabling new user's(Exchange 2007). To give you a little background when we have a new hire, their AD account is created at our off-site helpdesk, but they don't create their email account. I'm trying to automate the process of mail-enabling the user which involves putting them in the same database as an existing user, disable imap pop activesync, and lastly email the requester of the ticket. I would like to just get prompted for the New User's name, User to Replicate(mailbox, storage group, database), and the person to email after it's been created. So if someone could just help with a command to Retrieve a user's Exchange database in powershell that would be great, but if people also want to help with my hacked up script please do so as well!!! • Can't get IPv6 address using radvd on wireless interface on windows, wired works fine.

  I set up my router to use OpenWRT and set it up to use IPv6 using a tunnel form SixXs. I'm having problems with stateless autoconfiguration using radvd. On my computer, wired connection can get its IPv6 address fine, but wireless can't. After spending some time on OpenWRT forums, I'm pretty much sure now that router is set up fine and that the problem is with my windows settings. Also, I do not have any problems getting IPv6 address on openSUSE 11.3. So what should I do to solve this and what information should I post? • Task Scheduler Cannot Apply My Changes - Adding a User with Permissions

  I can log in to the server using a domain account without administrator privileges and create a task in the Task Scheduler. I am allowed to do an initial save of the task but unable to modify it with the same user account. When changes are complete, a message box prompts for the user password (same domain user I logged in with), then fails with the following message. Task Scheduler cannot apply your changes. The user account is unknown, the password is incorrect, or the account does not have permission to modify the task. When I check Log on as Batch Job Properties (found this from the Help documentation): This policy is accessible by opening the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and then Local Security Policy. In the Local Security Policy window, click Local Policy, User Rights Assignment, and then Logon as batch job. Everything is grayed out, so I can't add a user. How can I add a user?

• WCF <operation>Async methods not generated in proxy interface

  I want to use the Asnyc methods rather than the Begin on my WCF service client proxy because I'm updating WPF controls and need to make sure they're being updated from the UI thread. I could use the Dispatcher class to queue items for the UI thread but that's not what I'm asking about.. I've configured the service reference to generate the asynchronous operations, but it only generates the methods in proxy's implementation, not it's interface. The interface only contains syncronous and Begin methods. Why aren't these methods generated in the interface and is there a way to do this, or do I have to create a derived interface to manually add them?

• Any screen capture software that captures webcam, microphone inputs too ?

  I am going to conduct a user study. Apart from capturing the screen while the user is interacting with the system, I also want to capture the video/audio of the user. Is there any software that in addition to capturing the screen also overlays it with the webcam/microphone inputs. The goal is to capture the complete experience of the user: key/mouse interactions with the system along with their facial/vocal responses. I know that I can maybe run a screen-capture software and also run a software for capturing webcam audio/video alongside and try to sync/overlay both these streams with timestamps. But I am going to be dealing with probably several hundred hours of data. So I am looking for a tool that can streamline the process for me amap and help me keep my sanity at end of the process.   I'm stuck. I've been working all day on trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and I've hit wall after wall. What I'm trying to do: Setup FTP in such a way that certain users have access only to their directory, but higher level users have access to all directories. What I've Googled so far: I started with this, but that didn't do what I needed it to. I then used this, but once I created one user, it wouldn't let me create another one. Finally, I decided to follow this, but it wouldn't let me even create one user. I'm using Ubuntu 10. I can login to ftp as a root user and it takes me to the home directory. If I try to login using the user I created in the tutorial it says: Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Response: 220 (vsFTPd 2.2.2) Command: USER mathew Response: 331 Please specify the password. Command: PASS **** Response: 530 Login incorrect. Error: Critical error Error: Could not connect to server

  I am trying to set up my Sonicwall TZ-210 as follows: Two WAN interfaces (different ISPs), set up in failover mode. Two LAN interfaces with different subnets Each LAN subnet will have a preferred outbound WAN interface, but would failover when necessary. In this way, each ISP is being used for a separate subnet of my network, but both subnets could failover to the other ISP if their primary went down. I know how to do 1 and 2, but I don't know how to do 3. I could set up a route for each subnet to go through a specific interface, but what would happen in the event of a failover? Would it automatically update those routes? Thanks!

  How can I get the CLSID for a given interface within a Primary Interop Assembly? Here's what I'm talking about: // The c# compiler does some interesting magic. // The following code ... var app = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application(); // ... is compiled like so (disassembled with Reflector): var app =((Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application) Activator.CreateInstance(Type.GetTypeFromCLSID(new Guid("0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046")))); Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Application is an interface, and therefore it cannot be instantiated directly. What's interesting here is that c# lets you treat these COM interfaces as if there where classes that you can instantiate with the new keyword. What I want to know is, given the System.Type for a given interface, how can I get the CLSID? Note: I ultimately want to be able to create an instance given the interface's System.Type - I don't really care how. I'm assuming here that the easiest way to do this would be to get CLSID given the Type, just as the c# compiler does.

• Disable (or switch off) a network interface on windows but keep the "plug and play"

  I'm looking for a good workaround to do this on Windows 7 and Windows XP: Disable or make ineffective the network interface (ETH, WIFI, any NIC). If the user connect his ETH cable, the network interface enable again. Important Notes to take care: I'm working with wmic on Win7 (through the command line) I'm working with devcon on WinXP (through the command line) I'm specifically working with the .NET Framework 2.0 on C# but this is just for informational purposes. I know that an event won't help me to detect it (if there is a way or workaround to do this I don't know it). The real problem is that when I disable the NIC, I can't know if the user connects his cable or has a wired network. This is why I am looking for a workaround. I'll treat suggestions as answers if no direct answer exists. I'll provide any extra detail necessary.
