• Find actual value of PHP variable

  Hi all. I am having a real headache with reading in a tab delimited text file and inserting it into a MySQL Database. The tab delimited text file was generated (I think) from a MS SQL Database, and I have written a simple script to read in the file and insert it into an existing table in my MySQL database. However, there seems to be some problem with the data in the txt file. When my PHP script parses the file and I output the INSERT statements, the values in each of the fields are longer than they should be. For example, the first field should be a simple two character alphanumeric value. If I echo out the INSERT statements, using Firebug (in Firefox), between each of the characters is a question mark in a black diamond. If I var_dump the values, I get the following: string(5) "A1" Now, this clearly shows a two character string, but var_dump tells me it is five characters long!! If I trim() the value, all I get is the first character (in this case "A"). How can I get at the other characters, even if it is only to remove them? Additionally, this appears to be forcing MySQL to insert the value as a BLOB, not as a varchar as it should. Simon

• ActiveScaffold custom action_link that should respond like update

  I have a custom action link which is :inline and :post. It's a quick-link to update an attribute, and that part works just fine. After the action, my intent is to respond just like it was an update, so the row is re-rendered in the index. After the record is updated in my controller action, I call respond_to_action(:create) Just like in the create method in active scaffold. It seems like the content of the javascript response is returned correctly to the client, however, the problem: The content-type of the response header is "text/html" instead of "text/javascript", unlike with an actual update. So the JS is not executed and the row doesn't update. I can't figure out what the difference could possibly be here, I've traced extensively and even have replaced the respond_to_action with: respond_to do |format| format.js do render ... end end And it still won't set the content-type like every other action in the app. Anybody have a clue here? Something in active scaffold must be overriding the content-type and I can't figure out what it might be. Surprising this isn't documented, this doesn't seem like an unusual use-case, making an action a slave to the update re-render.

• Buttons OnClick Event not firing when it causes a textboxes onChange event to fire first

  I have a few textboxes and button to save their values on a webpage. The onchange event of the textboxes fires some js which adds the changed text to a js array. The ok button when clicked flushes this to the database via a webservice. This works fine except when the onchange event is caused by clicking the ok button. In this scenario the onchange of the textboxes still fires but the onClick event of the button does not. Now I've rem'd out everything actually inside the functions that are being called beforehand but the problem persists. But if i remove the call altogether it works (???)

• TableAdapter.Update not working

  Here is my function: private void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { wO_FlangeMillBundlesTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_FlangeMillBundles); wO_HeadMillBundlesTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_HeadMillBundles); wO_WebMillBundlesTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_WebMillBundles); int rowsaffected = wO_MillTableAdapter.Update(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_Mill); MessageBox.Show(invClerkDataDataSet.WO_Mill.Rows[0]["GasReading"].ToString()); MessageBox.Show(rowsaffected.ToString()); } You can see the fourth update in the function uses the same functionality as the rest, I just have some debugging stuff added. The first three tables are bound to DataGridViews and work fine. The fourth table has it's members bound to various text boxes. When I change the value in the text box bound to the GasReading column and click save the first MessageBox does in fact show the new value, so it's making it into the dataset correctly. However, the rowsaffected is always showing 0 and the value in the actual database is not being updated. Can anyone see my problem? I understand that the problem must be elsewhere in my code since the four update methods are the same, but I just don't know where to start.

  We have an administrative portal that our teachers constantly forget to download their latest PDF instructions before logging out and/or closing the browser window. I have looked around but can't find what I'm looking for. I want to accomplish the following goals: Goal 1 Before a user can close the browser window, they are prompted "Did you remember to download your form?" with two options, yes/no. If yes, close, if no, return to page. Goal 2 Before a user can click the 'logout' button, they are prompted with the same as above. • What are the drawbacks of using PHP to create variables in my CSS stylesheet?

  One significant drawback of CSS is that one can't use variables. For example, I'd like to use variables to control the location of imported CSS, and it would be awesome to create variables for colors that are used repeatedly in a design. One approach is to use a PHP file for the CSS stylesheet. In other words, create a "style.php" with... <?php header("Content-type: text/css"); ?> ...at the top of the file, and then link to it using... <link href="style.php" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> ...in any file that uses these styles. So what's the catch? I think it might be performance -- I did a few quick experiments in Firefox/Firebug and as one would expect, the CSS stylesheet is cached, but the PHP stylesheet isn't. So we're paying the price of an additional GET. The other annoying thing is that TextMate does not syntax highlight properly for CSS in a .php file. Are there other drawbacks? Have you used this approach, and if so, would you recommend it?

• QTableWidget::itemAt() returns seemingly random items

  I've just started using Qt, so please bear with me. When I use QTableWidget-getItemAt(), it returns a different item from if I used currentItemChanged and clicked the same item. I believe it's necessary to use itemAt() since I need to get the first column of whatever row was clicked. Inside of that DataGrid I have a DataTemplate that is defined like the following: <Grid x:Name="myGrid" Tag="{Binding}" Loaded="myGrid_Loaded"> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding MyItems}" Tag="{Binding}"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Width="138"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Type}" /> <TextBox x:Name="myTextBox" TextChanged="myTextBox_TextChanged" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> </Grid> When a user enters text into the TextBox, I have an event (myTextBox_TextChanged) that must be fired at this point. When that event gets fired, I would like to get the ItemsControl element that is the container for this TextBox. How do I get that ItemsControl from my event handler? Please note: Because the ItemsControl is in the DataTemplate of DataGrid, I don't believe I can just add an x:Name and reference it from my code-behind. Or is there a way to do that? Thank you!

• Layering Cocoa WebView - Drawing on top?

Is there a reliable way to simply draw a view on top of a webview? I've tried to layer a regular NSView on top of WebView, and it draws right at first, but any movement in the webview (scrolling the page etc) appears to invalidate the view and produces visual artifacts. I've tried: [[[NSApp mainWindow] contentView] addSubview:view positioned:NSWindowAbove relativeTo:webView]; No luck there, same problems -- z-ordering doesn't seem to work unless I'm missing something. Is this just a limitation of webviews? I also tried implementing the view above as a window, which worked much better (just controlled the location of the window programmatically). However, the desired behavior is for the user to enter some text into this window, but for it not to steal "focus" -- ie the main window goes inactive (the x - + go gray) when the user clicks on the text field in the new window. Any way to avoid that? I've tried subclassing NSWindow and overriding canBecomeKey (return YES) and canBecomeMain (return NO) but the window still steals focus. Josh

• In Java, howd do I iterate through lines in a textfile from back to front

  Basically I need to take a text file such as : Fred Bernie Henry and be able to read them from the file in the order of Henry Bernie Fred The actual file I'm reading from is 30MB and it would be a less than perfect solution to read the whole file, split it into an array, reverse the array and then go from there. It takes way too long. My specific goal is to find the first occurrence of a string (in this case it's "InitGame") and then return the position beginning of the beginning of that line. I did something like this in python before. My method was to seek to the end of the file - 1024, then read lines until I get to the end, then seek another 1024 from my previous starting point and, by using tell(), I would stop when I got to the previous starting point. So I would read those blocks backwards from the end of the file until I found the text I was looking for. So far, I'm having a heck of a time doing this in Java. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you live near Baltimore it may even end up with you getting some fresh baked cookies. Thanks!

  Summary: I'm trying to write a text string to a column of type varchar(max) using ODBC and SQL Server 2005. It fails if the length of the string is greater than 8000. Help! I have some C++ code that uses ODBC (SQL Native Client) to write a text string to a table. If I change the column from, say, varchar(100) to varchar(max) and try to write a string with length greater than 8000, the write fails with the following error [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]String data, right truncation So, can anyone advise me on if this can be done, and how? • How do you clear a CustomValidator Error on a Button click event?

  I have a composite User control for entering dates: The CustomValidator will include server sided validation code. I would like the error message to be cleared via client sided script if the user alters teh date value in any way. To do this, I included the following code to hook up the two drop downs and the year text box to the validation control: <script type="text/javascript"> ValidatorHookupControlID("<%= ddlMonth.ClientID%>", document.getElementById("<%= CustomValidator1.ClientID%>")); ValidatorHookupControlID("<%= ddlDate.ClientID%>", document.getElementById("<%= CustomValidator1.ClientID%>")); ValidatorHookupControlID("<%= txtYear.ClientID%>", document.getElementById("<%= CustomValidator1.ClientID%>")); </script> However, I would also like the Validation error to be cleared when the user clicks the clear button. When the user clicks the Clear button, the other 3 controls are reset. To avoid a Post back, the Clear button is a regular HTML button with an OnClick event that resets the 3 controls. Unfortunately, the ValidatorHookupControlID method does not seem to work on HTML controls, so I thought to change the HTML Button to an ASP button and to Hookup to that control instead. However, I cannot seem to eliminate the Postback functionality associated by default with the ASP button control. I tried to set the UseSubmitBehavior to False, but it still submits. I tried to return false in my btnClear_OnClick client code, but the code sent to the browser included a DoPostback call after my call. btnClear.Attributes.Add("onClick", "btnClear_OnClick();") Instead of adding OnClick code, I tried overwriting it, but the DoPostBack code was still included in the final code that was sent to the browser. What do I have to do to get the Clear button to clear the CustomValidator error when clicked and avoid a postback? btnClear.Attributes.Item("onClick") = "btnClear_OnClick();"

• Dojox Datagrid contains data, but shows up as empty

  I'd really appreciate any help on this. There is this Dojox Datagrid that I'm creating programatically and supplying JSON data. As of now, I'm creating this data within JavaScript itself. (Can't post images since my account is new here) As you may notice, there are 6 rows for 6 pieces of data I have created but the grid is a mess. • Using Build Manager Class to Load ASPX Files and Populate its Controls

  I am using BuildManager Class to Load a dynamically generated ASPX File, please note that it does not have a corresponding .cs file. Using Following code I am able to load the aspx file, I am even able to loop through the control collection of the dynamically created aspx file, but when I am assigning values to controls they are not showing it up. for example if I am binding the value "Dummy" to TextBox control of the aspx page, the textbox remains empty. • Centering a div block without the width

  Hi, I have a problem when I try to center the div block "products" because I don't know in advance the div width. Anybody have a solution?   Hello, I am trying to remove all HTML elements from a String. Unfortunately, I cannot use regular expressions because I am developing on the Blackberry platform and regular expressions are not yet supported. Is there any other way that I can remove HTML from a string? I read somewhere that you can use a DOM Parser, but I couldn't find much on it.
