• Android - Dealing with a Dialog on Screen Orientation change

  I am overriding the onCreateDialog and onPrepareDialog methods or the Dialog class. I have followed the example from Reto Meier's Professional Android Application Development book, Chapter 5 to pull some XML data and then use a dialog to display the info. The error still occurs even when I tell my activity to ignore screen orientation in the manifest. So I presume something has been left out of the example in the book do I need to override another method to save my variables in or something?

• Selenium tests not building due to NUnit error (Mono+OS X)

  I'm running Selenium RC on my Mac and driving my tests using NUnit in C#. My problem is that when I try and build a simple test in Mono I get the following error.   Hello, I am trying to remove all HTML elements from a String. Unfortunately, I cannot use regular expressions because I am developing on the Blackberry platform and regular expressions are not yet supported. Is there any other way that I can remove HTML from a string? I read somewhere that you can use a DOM Parser, but I couldn't find much on it. • Can I configure the ResetPassword in Asp.Net's MembershipProvider?

  I have an C# asp.net app using the default Sql MembershipProvider. My web.config has a few settings that control how I'm using this Provider: enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresUniqueEmail="true" passwordFormat="Hashed" minRequiredPasswordLength="5" The problem I'm running into is that when people reset their passwords, it seems the ResetPassword() method returns a password that is longer than I want and has characters that can be confusing (l,1,i,I,0,O). Furthermore, I'm sending my users an email with a plain-text message and an HTML message (I'm using MailMessage with AlternateViews). If the password has unsafe HTML characters in it, when the email clients render the HTML text the password might be different (e.g. the %, &, and < aren't exactly HTML safe). I've looked over the "add" element that belongs in the web.config, but I don't see any extra configuration properties to only include certain characters in the ResetPassword() method and to limit the password length. Can I configure the ResetPassword() method to limit the password length and limit the character set it is choosing from? Right now I have a workaround: I call ResetPassword() to make sure the supplied answer is correct, and then I use a RandomPassword generator I downloaded off the internet to generate a password that I like (without ambiguous characters, HTML safe, and only 8 characters long) and then I call ChangePassword() to change the user's password after I've already reset it. My workaround seems kludgy and I thought it would be better to configure ResetPassword() to do what I want. Thank you~! ColoradoTechie

• XmlHttpRequest in a bookmarklet returns empty responseText on GET?

  I'm trying to build a javascript bookmarklet for a special URL shortening service we've built at http://esv.to for shortening scripture references (i.e. "Matthew 5" becomes "http://esv.to/Mt5". The bookmarklet is supposed to do a GET request to http://api.esv.to/Matthew+5, which returns a text/plain response of http://esv.to/Mt5. Now, according to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/664689/ajax-call-from-bookmarklet, GET shouldn't violate the same origin policy. Is this a bug? Is there a workaround?

• Change column height as other column gets longer

  Hi, I have tried a few things to solve this problem but I can't seem to get it working. The problem is that I have 2 columns as the main part of my website, right and left. On some pages, there is a lot of text in the left column, therefore it is very long, the problem is that the right column doesn't elongate with the left column. Both columns have the same background colour and a footer s displayed across the width of both columns after the columns finish. My first thought was to put both columns inside a div which would have the same background colour as them and therefore if the left column became 1500px long in total and the right column stayed at around 600px (due to the elements inside it) then this wouldn't show as the new, outer div would elongate along with the left column. But for some reason this didn't work. Could it be because the columns are floated? Does anyone have any other ideas? • NTLM Authentication fails when behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about consuming Web Services from behind a proxy server, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. I know from the Java docs that On Microsoft Windows platforms, NTLM authentication attempts to acquire the user credentials from the system without prompting the user's authenticator object. If these credentials are not accepted by the server then the user's authenticator will be called. Given that my Authentication code is called only ones, and only as the 5th attempt, it appears as if the connection is dropped when behind the proxy server before my Authentication object is used. Is there any way I can control the behavior of Authentication module, to not have it use the system credentials? • using jQuery to load the body of another HTML document between entries

  I'm trying to use jQuery to load the body of another HTML document, which contains our AdSense banner. It should display under each blog entry when in list view. I'm able to get it to load text, even images, but not the banner; the banner is a small script. Here is the website we are working with: http://neverknowtech.com/data/ (that's a test page, and the 'entry' displayed there contains the intended body content) As you can see here the body code does include an ad, and the word 'Ad'. The word 'Ad' is shown correctly below the post (as it is in list view) but the script for the Google Ad doesn't seem to make it.   I am attempting to have a ListBox of TextBoxes with click events. I have read that one way to achieve this was to have a list of Buttons and call ButtonBase.Click="" on the ListBox. • Saving NSBitmapImageRep as NSBMPFileType file. Wrong BMP headers and bitmap content

  I save a NSBitmapImageRep to a BMP file (Snow Leopard). It seems ok when i open it on macos. But it makes an error on my multimedia device (which can show any BMP file from internet). I cannot figure out what is wrong, but when i look inside the file (with the cool hexfiend app on macos), 2 things wrong: the header have a wrong value for the biHeight parameter : 4294966216 (hex=C8FBFFFF) the header have a correct biWidth parameter : 1920 the first pixel in the bitmap content (after 54 bytes headers in BMP format) correspond to the upper left corner of the original image. In the original BMP file and as specified in the BMP format, it should be the down left corner pixel first. To explain the full workflow in my app, i have an NSImageView where i can drag a BMP image. This View is bind to an NSImage. After a drag & drop i have an action to save this image (with some text drawing over it) to a BMP file. • How can I add a "Loading...Please wait..." feature?

  I have a very simple table on my website, that displays different URL's. I have an input field where I can type in a URL and click 'Submit' to add additional URL's. However, I want to add an MD5 grabbing feature to this, using @md5_file(); to grab the MD5 of the URL and check to make sure it's the MD5 it should be, before adding it to the database. However it may take a few seconds for it to grab the MD5 and compare it, so I would like to add a little bit of text, like "Processing...Please wait..." while it does the comparing, and then once it's compared I want that text to go away. I've never done this before, or even though about doing it so I have no idea where to start. I'll go ahead and put javascript as a tag for this, since I'm guessing it would be done with javascript, but I really have no idea. I don't think it's possible with PHP, but again, I have no idea. Any suggestions?

• aspnet_compiler -fixednames does not work?

  I am unable to get the -fixednames switch to create dlls for the cs code behind files. The files in the bin folder are compiled aspx pages, but the code behind files are all compiled into one large websitename.dll file. Here is my command with switches. aspnet_compiler -v / -p E:\Source\DotNet4\mysolution\website -f -d -fixednames E:\Source\DotNet4\CompiledWebSite This produces many files in the bin folder. website.dll and website.pdb (contains code behind) myform1.aspx.643c7876.dll (compiled aspx layout ui) I have tested this over and over to make sure I am not missing anything. The test is place a label on myform1.aspx, and in the codebehind populate the label with some text. Compile the website with the above switches and deploy the website. Make a change to the myform1 codebehind and change the label text. Compile and only deploy the myform1.aspx.643c7876.dll to the website. Result: label is still the same. Now deploy the website.dll and pdb and the label changes. Can anyone tell me how to get -fixednames to create sinle dlls for codebehind?

• passive view and display logic

  Hi! In MVC and MVP and similar patterns there's often the approach of the "passive view" which is as stupid as possible. This should facilitate unit testing and create a clearer separation of view and model. I know that those patterns come in very different flavours and especially the understanding of MVP seems to differ from article to article. Therefore my question is not "how do i implement this pattern correctly". I want to improve view and model separation and go for better testability of the application. Therefore i'd like to go for a passive view. But my question is, where would you put logic that is clearly only view related? like a textviewer should scroll the text when the scrollbar is moved. would you put the logic for this into the Presenter? Let's say the textviewer has some extended functionality. like setting markings on textpassages. The logic for this makes clearly sense to be put into the Presenter. However, if it is mixed with all the 'direct' logic of the view (like scrolling the text) the Presenter could become very big, which is also not really a nice design. So my question is where to put display related logic of a passive view and what functionallity to mix in the Presenter. Thanks!
