Do you guys know any good free application for Mac OS X, that could store ideas, code snippets, files, etc?
A kind of an organizer for information, files, etc?
thanks.
I know there is a system preferences pane to manually modify the file associations in Mac OS X Leopard. However, I'm curious where does Leopard actually store these information?
UPDATE: as I said, I'm not interested in methods to change them. I want to know the configuration file or database (like registry in Windows) where those mappings are stored.
I have the different versions of the same application added several times in the dock but the application icon and title is identical.
I cannot change the icon or the file name because they are recreated each time I rebuild.
OS X is displaying only the application name as a tooltip not the path.
Is there a solution for this problem?
It seems that Sprint do not provide drivers for this USB adapter. Is there a way to make this work with Apple OS X, so that I can use it with my MacBook Pro? It appears to have USB storage and this is all that works for me.
How to burn an OS like Windows 7 onto a DVD for Mac? What software should be used? Is Toast good enough and if so, how do I make the DVD bootable???
Thanks.
Does anyone knows if it is possible to have more than 16 desktop "spaces" with Mac OS X Snow Leopard?
I know that it does not seem possible at all from the System Preferences settings, but I was wondering if there exists some software tools that would enable one to use more Spaces, say 20-25.
Thanks for the help.
My text and programmers editor of choice, when working on a windows box is TSE (The Semware Editor). It is small, it is fast, it is configurabel, and since I've used it (and it's predecessor QEdit) for over twenty years, my fingers can do the editing on autopilot, while the brain is busy with syntax and design.
Do you know of a similar editor preferably one that runs on Windows, Linux and OS X (and Solaris ..)
I've tried to use VIM (I know how to use VI even longer thant TSE) but it doesn't feel right.
We have a proxy at school, which requires a login/password, and blocks a certain number of sites that aren't "school related" (facebook, youtube, etc.)
While I'm able to get through to most things, people who've upgraded to Lion can't get through to anything, even though I've replicated my proxy/network settings on their machines.
Is it possible that the difference in OS versions is causing this? I have Snow Leopard, they have Lion.
Hey, I'm a new developer in Objective C. I'm trying to record the audio running out of iPhone speakers. I can capture the audio by mouth speaker and record it. But I cannot record the audio producing from my iPhone. Please help me.
I have ubuntu as main OS. I installed virtual box with a windows xp guest. How can I share files between the two OSs, and how do I connect to internet in the XP guest?
Hello everybody,
I'm not that familiar with Linux but I'm currently working on a aws image for an assignment and I need to display the DB2 version, the OS and the hardware.
Is there a commando or program of some sort I can use for this purpose?
I tried a rpm called "Bonnie" but that only writes the throughput for the system.
Thanks

Is it possible to have USB drive bootable and place multiple ISOs like
Windows 7.iso
WindowXP.iso
Ubuntu.iso
RHEL.iso
so that I can choose which OS to install?
The Internet Sharing feature in Mac OS X (available at the "sharing" System Preferences panel) seems to be somewhat limited, it does not have the ability to use WPA when sharing through AirPort for instance.
Is there a simple software alternative that will use a MacBook Pro built in AirPort card to create a local wi-fi access point?
I accidentally renamed the username of my account on my Mac (running OS X 10.4.11) and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc., and the new one).
Is it possible to copy my settings from my original account into this new user name? When I open my computer, it defaults to this new account, and I cannot gain access to all my work documents, mail settings etc.
I'd like my Option and Alt keys to switch places in certain applications. Is there any way to change the modifier keys according specific applications in Mac OS X?
Alternatively; is there "an application for that"?
I have an Xserve running OS X Server 10.4.11. It has Apple File Protocol enabled to share a few dozen sharepoints on the local network.
I would occasionally like to get a listing of who is currently connected to the server (easily done with Server Admin), but I would like to know which sharepoints they have mounted on their local computer.
We have an osx desktop Environment with nfs shares and using linux/vm´s as nfs-clients
We want to encrpyt the nfs-data/directories on our os-x machines.
Is that possible? Apple´s File-Fault is using kerberos, but file-fault data isnt´ accessible via nfs. Is there a possibility to use file-vault anyway or should we use truecrypt volumes?
How do we setup truecypt/filevault + nfs?
I am unable to run psql with my normal Mac user account in Terminal session, although I can do it using the postgres service account). When I enter the command psql mydb and type my password, I get the following message:
WARNING: password file "/Users/beh/.pgpass" has group or world access; permissions should be u=rw (0600) or less
But I cannot find .pgpass.
How do I set up and add users to my PostgreSQL 9.1 database on Mac OS X 10.6.8?
Hi, im trying to make a single terminal window appear on every space but the built in spaces only allow to configure this per application basis. This makes it more or less useless for terminals if you have multiple terminal windows on multiple spaces.
DesktopManager seams to have solved this for older versions of Mac OS X.
I have a Canon PIXMA MX700 connected by ethernet. When I first bought it I was using OS X 10.4, and scanner-initiated scanning worked fine. After upgrading to 10.6, neither scanner-initiated or scanning from MP Navigator EX works with the firewall enabled. The firewall lists exceptions for three applications:
Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.app
Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector.app
MP Navigator EX 1.0.app
I get no further blocked warnings, and /var/log/appfirewall.log lists nothing for today (my latest attempt to use it).
Is it possible to set per-application volume levels under Mac OS X?
I would like to be able to turn the volume down on Entourage for new emails, but leave everything else at a pleasant level, adjusting media playback volumes via iTunes or the DVD app.
I've recently acquired a mac mini server. Would like to migrate my existing (regular OS X) account to the server. I've created a user with same short name on the server side, but can't use it from my client for some reason.
Also it is not clear how to add a machine to Workgroup Manager. Would you have a good resource/article to read to find out how to do this properly?
The default Emacs on Mac OS X, 22.1, appears to have some problems with the info/help stuff.
When you hit C+h i, it says:
Can't find the Info directory node.
It works in AquaEmacs, but I downloaded the 23 version of emacs precompiled binaries from here and I still have the same problem.
I'd like to have today's date displayed in the menu bar alongside the day-of-the-week and the time (i.e. Mon, Dec 31, 9:59 PM). Is there a way to do this? I'm on OS X 10.5.
EDIT: I found one suggestion, but couldn't make it work...
