• ASP.NET MVC and Paging - Search & Result Scenario

  I have forms in my page a get and a post and i want add pager on my get form .. so i cant page through the results.. The problem that i am having is when i move to the second page it does not display anything..   Hi all, I have a simple class library written in c#. using System; namespace TestDll { public class Test { public string HelloWorld { get { return "Hello World"; } } } } My question is how can I call this HelloWorld function from Microsoft Office Visual Basic (which I think is VB6)? My first step was to add the DLL as a reference - but on browsing and selecting the compiled DLL the message "Can't add a reference to the specified file." was thrown. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to why/how to get this working? Thanks in advance SO!

• C# Elegant way to handle checking for an item in a collection.

  I've posted a code sample below. Firstly let me explain termStore.Groups in the code below is a collection of Group Objects (The exact class is irrelevant). Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection .   How can I hide the New / Actions / Upload / Settings menus within a list or document library in SharePoint? Note that I need to be able to hide these menus for a particular list definition (template) and not just all lists or document libraries. One possible way that I know of is to register a , and set the ControlClass element to a control that inherits from WebControl. In the WebControl, I can override OnPreRender, which then does this: foreach (Control control in this.Parent.Controls) { if (control.ToString() == "Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls.NewMenu") { control.Visible = false; } // etc } This is pretty hacky, and I was just wondering if there is a better way of doing it?

• How to delay shutdown of an application when user logs off or shuts down Windows?

  I am writing an application that runs in the background from startup to shutdown, and in some circumstances I need the application to display a dialogue for the user to choose whether or not to continue shutting down. This application will only be running on Windows, but may be running on any version from 2000 onward. While I have certainly done some research on the topic, the information regarding the way that windows handles application shut down (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms700677(VS.85).aspx) seems to be a bit scattered. If anyone has an example of the best way to handle this, or additional knowledge regarding the topic, I would very much appreciate it (I have very little experience with C#). Thanks!! badPanda

• What is your prefered way to return XML from an ActionMethod in Asp.net MVC?

  I am displaying charts that load the data asynchronously because the searches are the work to fetch the data is quite heavy. The data has to be return as XML to make the chart library happy. My ActionMethods return a ContentResult with the type set as text/xml. I build my Xml using Linq to XML and call ToString. This works fine but it's not ideal to test. I have another idea to achieve this which would be to return a view that builds my XML using the XSLT View engine. I am curious and I always try to do the things "the right way". So how are you guys handling such scenarios? Do you implement a different ViewEngine (like xslt) to build your XML or do you Build your XML inside your controller (Or the service that serves your controller)?

  Hi How could I make this code more generic in the sense that the Dictionary key could be a different type, depending on what the user of the library wanted to implement? What I need is a way to, from the UserControl Type, obtain it's VirtualPath. • How can I find out how much memory an object (rather the instance of an object) of a C++ class consu

  Hi, I am developing a Graph-class, based on boost-graph-library. A Graph-object contains a boost-graph, so to say an adjacency_list, and a map. When monitoring the total memory usage of my program, it consumes quite a lot (checked with pmap). Now, I would like to know, how much of the memory is exactly consumed by a filled object of this Graph-class? With filled I mean when the adjacency_list is full of vertices and edges. I found out, that using sizeof() doesn't bring me far. Using valgrind is also not an alternative as there is quite some memory allocation done previously and this makes the usage of valgrind impractical for this purpose. I'm also not interested in what other parts of the program cost in memory, I want to focus on one single object. Thank you.

  I am using Poco library and when running my program on other machines which don't have VS2005 installed, I have to install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update", otherwise the the program will give error when launching. What is this redistributable package for? Is there any way to avoid installing this but still let my program running well? Also, there're so many vcredist_x86.exe out there. How can I know which one is necessary or not when getting error? Thanks.

  I am developing an application and need to read the users call history from iPhone.I have go though all the forums and google it and found that we can get the records from teh callHistory sqlite database by "private/var/root/Library/CallHistory/call_history.db". But this path is not working from iOS 5 and above. Seems like apple has changed all their database path and structure so that no one can accees it. I have also seen some of the application on iTunes who are capable of getting the users call history like:-https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/callog/id327883585?mt=8 I have also check a mac desktop utility called "WonderShare Dr.Fone" which will fetch all the data from your iPhone like call history messages, notes , etc.How this utility is fetching the call history records and other details? If their is any API or private APIs by which i can get the callHistory data path please let me know.

• Zend Studio 7.1 PHPUnit Test Case wizard does not populate "Element to Test"

  When I follow the instructions in ZS documentation to create a phpunit test case, the wizard returns no objects to select on the "Element to Test" line. Selecting "browse" provides an empty dialog box. The PHPUnit path in my preferences shows "/Applications/zend/zs710/plugins/com.zend.php.phpunit_7.1.0.v20091120-0900/resources/library/". What else can I check to see why I cannot create a test case? I'm new to ZS and PHP, so I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Thanks.

  Hi everybody, I'm using the python logging module with the "native" configuration file support (config.fileconfig) as describe in the documentation here : http://docs.python.org/library/logging.html (see the logging.conf file) I was wondering if it's possible to supply a tabulated data format in the configuration file? The sample configuration file is the following: [formatter_simpleFormatter] format=%(asctime)s - %(name)s - %(levelname)s - %(message)s I though that using the \t in the format would be enough but it doesn't. format=%(asctime)s\t%(name)s\t%(levelname)s\t%(message)s\t If I do so it print \t in the result. I tried a couple of thing without success. I suppose it's really easy to do but I don't find it! How can I do that?

• WPF WebBrowser - How to Zoom Content?

  Trying to test basic browser concepts in a WPF (C#/XAML, .NET 4.0) WebBrowser application. So far, the only problem is programatically zooming. Has anyone had any experience with this? MSDN lists nothing: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.webbrowser.aspx Additionally, I have tried various things such as RenderTransform options to no avail. • What git gotchas have you been caught by?

  The worst one I've been caught by was with git submodules. I had a submodule for a project on github. The project was unmaintained, and I wanted to submit patches, but couldn't, so I forked. Now the submodule was pointing at the original library, and I needed it to point at the fork instead. So I deleted the old submodule and replaced it with a submodule for the new project in the same commit. Turns out that this broke everyone else's repositories. I'm still not sure what the correct way of handling this situation is, but I ended up deleting the submodule, having everyone pull and update, and then I created the new submodule, and had everyone pull and update again. It took the better portion of a day to figure that out. What have other people done to accidentally screw up git repositories in non-obvious ways, and how did you resolve it?

• Getting every nth Element of a Sequence

  I am looking for a way to create a sequence consisting of every nth element of another sequence, but don't seem to find a way to do that in an elegant way. I can of course hack something, but I wonder if there is a library function that I'm not seeing. The sequence functions whose names end in -i seem to be quite good for the purpose of figuring out when an element is the nth one or (multiple of n)th one, but I can only see iteri and mapi, none of which really lends itself to the task. Example: let someseq = [1;2;3;4;5;6] let partial = Seq.magicfunction 3 someseq Then partial should be [3;6]. Is there anything like it out there? Edit: If I am not quite as ambitious and allow for the n to be constant/known, then I've just found that the following should work: let rec thirds lst = match lst with | (_,_,x)::t -> x::thirds t | _ -> [] Would there be a way to write this shorter?

• Should I use a modified singleton design pattern that only allows one reference to its instance?

  Hi, I have a class that would normally just generate factory objects, however this class should only used once throughout the program in once specifix place. What is the best design pattern to use in this instance? I throught that having a modified singleton design which only allows one reference to instance throughout the program would be the correct way to go. So only the first call to getInstance() returns the factory library. Is this a good or bad idea? Have I missed out another fundermental design pattern for solving this problem? Thanks for your help.

  Am looking for examples specific to .net/mvc and servers native WinServer08 where problem being addressed is processing a bounced smtp msg so as to bind to an estore transaction and updating account/profile properties. Reading the related questions i find an interesting reference to [VERP]2. Under the heading 'Software that supports VERP i find that IIS is not on the list. Does that mean i need to find a library to integrate into my store's assembly? What resources do I have to pull together to make sure that the webapp is informed when mail bounces? fwiw - i'm working with a very low volume site.

• Blob ID matching over multiple frames in C++ (image analysis)

  Dear reader, I'm working on a blob matching and tracking library in C++. Currently I'm using openCV to detect blobs and try to match blobs in a new frame by checking the position, velocity and size of the blob. This works quite okay and I'm receiving a high blob match rate (95% or higher). Sometimes blobs fall out of the image or new blobs appear. Now I need to give matched blobs the same ID as they had before. I'm wondering if there are typical or commonly used techniques for doing this. Or even some keywords I can use to google on. Thanks

  I'm testing a library and I use console.log() function to visualyze values. There is a strange behaviour of Google Chrome (in other browser like Firefox it doesn't happend). If I try to store strings in Array object when I log them, sometimes values appears undefined. Code example (item.name is a string) var arrayItemsSearch = [item.name]; var itemRedrawName = [item.name]; console.log("arrayItemsSearch: ", arrayItemsSearch); console.log("itemRedrawName: ", itemRedrawName); Firefox output is correct arrayItemsSearch: ["elem[0]"] itemRedrawName: ["elem[0]"] Chrome output is not correct arrayItemsSearch: [undefined × 1] itemRedrawName: ["elem[0]"] Is this a Chrome bug? Or is this beacuse in Javascript strings are immutable objects and so something that I don't understand goes wrong?
