• jQTouch with PhoneGap on webOS

  I'm writing an application in PhoneGap that I want to run on iOS, Android, and webOS. jQTouch plays nice with everything on iOS and Android, but not webOS. Since the webOS Mojo framework is based on Prototype (which uses the $ variable), it's necessary to use jQuery in noConflict mode. I can handle that much. However, the problem is that I also want to use the jQTouch plugin. The jqtouch.js file uses $ throughout, causing JavaScript errors when that file is loaded. Is there a way to run the jQTouch plugin (or any plugin for that matter) in my PhoneGap application without interfering with Prototype?

• Foreign key onto weak entity set in MS SQL Server 2008?

  I'm using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Studio to create a relational schema by following an Entity-Relationship diagram. (included below; unrelated details removed) Until now, primary and foreign keys have been working as expected. But when I try to create a foreign key from the entity relationship takes onto the weak entity set section, I get an error. Section is identified by a composite primary key in the context of course, which has course_id as a primary key. Therefore, the primary key of section is a 4-way composite key. The entity relationship takes needs to refer to section, so it includes all 4 primary attributes from section in it's own primary key. When trying to establish a foreign key relationship from takes to section, Studio gives the following error: The columns in table 'section' do not match an existing primary key or UNIQUE constraint. Am I doing something wrong, or is this an unsupported configuration? I can provide more details or the SQL schema if necessary.

• ruby / rails / mysql performance degraded on Snow Leopard

  I've burned a bunch of hours on this. I'm not having problems getting things to build, but I am seeing that my test suite runs about 2x slower than when I was on OS X 10.5.x . I've spent a lot of time playing around with different optimization settings (learning to avoid homebrew's llvm-gcc compilation). I've just learned that I needed to tweaks /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist in order to get the kernel to boot in 64 bit mode. However, my rails app is still running a bit slower than before, even after warming up the mysql server. So what performance tweaks might i need to look into? Right now the stock ruby 1.8.7 runs faster than 1.9.1 for some things, and I'd really like to know if there is anything I should be looking for. All my dev software has been compiled for x86_64, mysql with -O2 optimization, using regular gcc (not llvm-gcc).

  I have a reporting setup with SSRS on our sql server 2005 database. Because sql server 2008 is not supported by the main program which populates our database we are stuck with 2005 on our prod database. Unfortunately when I run our weekly check reports the web interface constantly times out because the server cant do the conversion to PDF. I've read that sql server 2008's SSRS is ALOT better with memory management. I was wondering if I can do some kind transact log shipping subscription publication from 2005 to 2008? Am I chasing a dream here.

  Hi, I've been looking and googling a lot, but I didn't find a solution to this problem. I was successfully using xrandr to extend my desktop in my work place with this little "script". #!/bin/sh xrandr --newmode 1920x1080 220.64 1920 2056 2264 2608 1080 1081 1084 1128 -HSync +Vsync xrandr --addmode VGA 1920x1080 xrandr --output VGA --mode 1920x1080 Everything was going well till one day that magically stop working. When I try to use it. I just get this message. X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist) The laptop display resizes in a strange way, but nothing happens with the extended monitor. I've restored gnome desktop default config. I changed the font config, I tried with other layouts and monitors, but always occur the same. So any Idea will be welcomed. My best regards.

• Custom Errors "Could no load type error"

  I am creating ASP.Net MVC application and want to handle errors globally. I have set web.config value as mode=On and defaulRedirect="Error.aspx". I have Error.aspx at two places. One at Views/Shared folder and one at project root folder level. But each time an unhandled error occurs, the error page at root level gets called. How can I make it redirect to the one at Shared folder level? I want to do this becasuse, currently I am getting error as "could not load type System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" when any error is occuring. 'string invalidEmail'. If I remove that prameter it seems to work normally.   I'm writing a C# program that will enforce password complexity in accordance with the Windows Group Policy setting "Password must meet complexity requirements". Specifically, if that policy is set to Enabled either on the local machine (if it's not part of a domain) or by the Domain Security Policy (for domain members), then my software needs to enforce a complex password for its own internal security. The issue is that I can't figure out how to read that GPO setting. Google searches have indicated that I can read GPO settings with one of these two APIs: the System.DirectoryServices library in .NET Framework, and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), but I haven't had any success so far. Any insights would be helpful.

• Setting Xcode's target to iPhone NOT iPad

  I just upgraded to iPhone SDK 3.2 Beta 4. Since doing so, I have not been able to get the app to launch in the iPhone simulator - it keeps launching in the iPad simulator. I have tried option-clicking the drop-down menu in the top left-corner of Xcode and setting 'Active Executable' to iPhone simulator 3.1.3 but it keeps going back to iPad simulator instead. What gives? I have no interest in my app running on the iPad and I don't want to test it in the 2X mode in the simulator. Thanks,

• SQL 2008 Database tuning advisor won't start

  For some reason I can't get DTA to connect to my development machine. It connects to a remote DB just fine but when I point it to my dev machine I get an error saying: Failed to initialize MSDB database for tuning (exit code: -1073741819). I'm pretty sure it's not a permissions issue since I've used profiler to capture what it's doing and all of the commands it's run so far look fine and are being run under my account which is associated with the sysadmin role, when I run them in sql management studio they go through fine. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is related to creating the objects in MSDB that are used by DTA but I tried creating these manually (I found scripts on the web) and it just seems to push the problem along the line slightly. I'm going out of my mind - have even tried reinstalling SQL but that's not fixed it. I'm using SQL 2008 with SP1 (10.0.2531) on windows server 2008 (patched up to date). SAVE ME!!!!!

  Greetings all, I am trying to create a layout in Android for a notification. My goal is to have the following displayed: 1: Icon for the app 2: Vertically stacked LinearLayout with Session title and Room to be held in 3: The start time of the session The problem I am facing is that #2 has a variable width depending on the size of the title. Hardcoding a width would look terrible if the user turns the handset sideways and goes into Landscape mode. Therefore here is my question: How can I layout three components horizontally in Android such that #1 and #3 are left and right aligned respectively, and #2 simply takes the space remaining? • Getting "Object is read only" error when setting ClientCredentials in WCF

  I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

  Hi all. Imagine a simple model. class Service belongs_to :user validates_associated :user accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end Nothing special right? The validations on the associated User model trigger correctly in development mode. But don't do anything in production. I've added a validates_on_presence :user just like the docs say. This triggers when there's no User associated with the Service, but fill in one thing on the User model and nothing happens! It's driving me up the walls. Am I overlooking something? More info about the MVC: I use formtastic for the forms. Thanks!

  Hi, I'm porting an application with EJBs 2.1 from Weblogic9 to JBoss AS5. I have made some of the changes like adding jboss.xml descriptors to EJBs and fixing application.xml of the EAR, but there are still problems when deploying the EAR.   I usually develop content management solutions in php, I work with designers that create the front end (html & css) and I usually develop the backend (php & mysql) of said cms. I know that the cost of the website may vary depending of the complexity of the html or the backend, but taking as reference a very basic website, what percentage of the cost should go to design and what percentage should go to development. I want to make clear that I as the developer i'm in charge of all the effects and animations of the websites using some of the javascript frameworks, not the designer. I just want to know what´s the fair share for me and for the designer.

• IIS, Impersonation and COM Interop Premission Denied

  Hello we are in the throws of integrating a Document Management System with Dynamic CRM 4, have done similar things previously but in this instance we are having to reference a COM dll. We've configured the asp.net page (we are bringing the info in via a i-Frame in CRM), setting Impersonation = True in the Webconfig and ensured that Windows authentication is the only method available within IIS. All works as we would expect when logged into the server itself and the page happily does off finds all the relevant documents for the CRM account and presents them to a user in a nice Infragistics CRM styled grid. However trying this from a client workstation we get the following: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xC0042335): Permission denied. Impersonation appears to be passing over the correct details but nothing we've tried thus far has been able to make this work outside of logging into the server. Any thoughts as to what we are missing?

• windbg and symbols

  When I set a breakpoint on one of the methods that appears on top of the stack (!CLRStack), I get lots of these messages for every DLL that the debuggee is referencing including the .NET Framework ones. ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded Further digging into this shows that windbg is not loading every .pdb file that I make available in the symbols path. I've double-checked my symbol's path and it looks OK, but the following commands clearly show that not all PDBs are loaded correctly! 0:000 !sym noisy noisy mode - symbol prompts on 0:000 .reload Reloading current modules ................................................................   I have an ASP.NET MVC 4 application that using the Universal providers for session state: <sessionState mode="Custom" sqlConnectionString="DefaultConnection" customProvider="DefaultSessionProvider"> <providers> <add name="DefaultSessionProvider" type="System.Web.Providers.DefaultSessionStateProvider, System.Web.Providers, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" connectionStringName="DefaultConnection" /> </providers> </sessionState> When I upgraded to entity framework 6 I now get this error: Method not found: 'System.Data.Objects.ObjectContext System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.IObjectContextAdapter.get_ObjectContext()'. I tried adding the reference to System.Data.Entity.dll back in but that didn't work and I know that your not suppose to add that with the new entity framework..

• How to implement UIViewController rotation in response to orientation changes?

  My app has about 10 different UIViewControllers, just one of which I want to switch to landscape mode if the device is rotated. (All the rest, I want to keep in portrait.) In order to implement rotation on that one view, I needed to implement its controller's 'shouldAutorotate' method and return YES. Since this view is accessed via a navigation controller, I also needed to create a subclass of UINavigationController that implements 'shouldAutorotate' and return YES. This solution works, but too well. I find that all of the UIViewControllers I push onto my subclass of UINavigationController respond to rotation, even if I implement 'shouldAutorotate' and return NO. (Remember: I only want one particular UIViewController to respond to rotation, not every one in the navigation controller's stack.) So, my question is: how do I best do this? All the solutions I can come up with seem 1) cumbersome, and 2) worse, don't seem to work. Thanks very much.

• Question on Pointer Arithmetic

  Heyy Everybody! I am trying to create a memory management system, so that a user can call myMalloc, a method I created. I have a linked list keeping track of my free memory. My problem is when I am attempting to find the end of a free bit in my linked list. I am attempting to add the size of the memory free in that section (which is in the linked list) to the pointer to the front of the free space, like this. void *tailEnd = previousPlace->head_ptr + ((previousPlace->size+1)*(sizeof(int)); I was hoping that this would give me a pointer to the end of that segment. However, I keep getting the warning: "pointer of type 'void*' used in arithmetic" Is there a better way of doing this? Thanks!

• Using IVMRWindowlessControl to display video in a Winforms Control and allow for full screen toggle

  I've recently switched from using the IVideoWindow interface to IVMRWindowlessControl in my custom Winforms control to display video. The reason for this was to allow zoom capabilities on the video within the control. However in switching over, I've found that the FullScreen mode from IVideoWindow is not available and I am currently trying to replicate this using the SetVideoWindow() method. I'm finding that I size the video in my control to be at the same resolution as the screen however I can't get the control to position itself to the top/left of the screen and become the top most window. Any ideas on how to achieve this since the IVideoWindow::put_FullScreenMode just did it all for you?
