• Apple Magic Trackpad Gestures carried out as personalized Commands in Windows

  I want to have the Apple Magic Trackpad to work on Windows, but NOT as a regular Mouse! I will need the normal Trackpad Gestures to work with a c# Application (i.e. when carring out a 2 finger swipe to the left, it will start playing a song...). I guess I´ll have to write my own driver? Is there a way to use Apples MAgic Trackpad Driver for Windows and re-write that one? OR is there any way (API, self-written driver), so that I could just hook the gestures to my Commands? Or any RAW Input examples? Does anybody know how to do that, or where to start? Thank you so much, I´m really lost.

• Distinguish UI change to variable from code-behind change

  Like the title says I am trying to architecture into my application a way to distinguish the source of a variable change, either from UI or code-behind. My problem is that I need to trigger some action after a property changed its value, but I only need to do this when the change comes from the UI because otherwise I don-t want to perform that action. I am having some trouble because, for example when a checkbox(two way binding), changes state, my binded property gets updated and then I use the checked and uncheked events to trigger that action.The problem is that when I change the property in codebehind it also triggers those events and I do not want that. Right now, i am using a flag that enables, or not, the actions at the event handlers but I do not feel that this is a good idea. Any sugestions or ideas? I am considering using only one-way binding and control everything my self, using commands.

• How do I protect static files with ASP.NET form auhentication on IIS 7.5?

  Hi all I have a website running on a IIS 7.5 server with ASP.NET 4.0 on a shared host, but in full trust. The site is a basic "file browser" that allows the visitors to login and have a list of files available to them displayed, and, obviously, download the files. The static files (mostly pdf files) are located in a sub folder on the site called data, e.g. http://example.com/data/... The site uses ASP.NET form authentication. My question is: How do I get the ASP.NET engine to handle the requests for the static files in the data folder, so that request for files are authenticated by ASP.NET, and users are not able to deep link to a file and grab files they are not allowed to have? • What's the usual term for a local IIS/web application with services?

  I've inherited a multi-technology project which comprises a Flash user interface contained in a web-browser-like host and has an ASP.NET piece which provides web services to the Flash UI, background/watchdog services plus a web application for administration of the system. Our transatlantic project conference calls are getting confusing due to the various terms people use to describe the ASP.NET piece. Indeed, ASP.NET has its' own project terminology including 'Web Site' and 'Web Application' to both of which one can add a 'Web Service'. Is there any commonly-used name for this ASP.NET multi-purpose project piece?

• Blurred PNGs on UIView, using Interface Builder

  Hey everyone, I've added some UIImageViews with png images to my view, using interface builder. Initially they are added off-screen. Later, I animate them onto the screen with CoreAnimation, like so: [UIView beginAnimations:@"slide" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.1f]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut]; [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; image.frame = CGRectMake(81+1, 390, 150, 80); [UIView commitAnimations]; Once they appear onscreen, they look really blurred or fuzzy. I've heard of this happening before. Does anyone have any idea how to fix it?

  Hi, Im trying to load a modal view from a view controller that is displayed in a popover. The modal view loads but the problem is that it transitions into the main view and not within the popover. Is it something Im missing? I thought simply initiating it from a vc within a popover would present the modal view within the same popover... • 8051 microcontroller kit recommendation?

  I'm a first year Computer Science student looking to get started with development for micro-controllers. I'd like to use the 8051, as it's common as dirt, and is used frequently in the real world. During my junior or senior year, I'll be taking a PIC micro-controller based embedded design class, so I'd rather not do PIC now; otherwise, I'll be fairly bored during that course. Most commercial kits I see are for the AVR or PIC series of microprocessors. I'm just looking for something with decent development tools, documentation, and enough add-ons to keep my novice self occupied for the summer. Any recommendations for an 8051 family kit? Thanks!

• Help with Ruby Date Compare

  Yes, I've read and done teh Google many times but I still can't get this working... maybe I'm an idiot :) I have a system using tickets. Start date is "created_at" in the timestamps. Each ticket closes 7 days after "created_at". In the model, I'm using: def closes (self.created_at + 7.days) end I'm trying to create another method that will take "closes" and return it as how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds are left before the ticket closes. Anyone want to help and/or admonish my skills? ;)

• Override Java System.currentTimeMillis

  Is there a way, either in code or with JVM arguments, to override the current time, as presented via System.currentTimeMillis, other than manually changing the system clock on the host machine? A little background: We have a system that runs a number of accounting jobs that revolve much of their logic around the current date (ie 1st of the month, 1st of the year, etc) Unfortunately, a lot of the legacy code calls functions such as new Date() or Calendar.getInstance(), both of which eventually call down to System.currentTimeMillis. For testing purposes, right now, we are stuck with manually updating the system clock to manipulate what time and date the code thinks that the test is being run. So my question is: Is there a way to override what is returned by System.currentTimeMillis? For example, to tell the JVM to automatically add or subtract some offset before returning from that method? Thanks in advance!

• PHP & MySQLi timeout

  Whenever I try to create a mysqli object, as in; $mysqli = new mysqli(host, user, pass, table); ...the page just loads for around a minute, then stops, showing all the content of the page up until that line. info() says that MySQLi (and MySQL if that matters) are enabled, and I can access the MySQL CLI. I'm also working on a local machine, not a remote server. I feel like I've missed something obvious. Can anyone shed some light on it? Edit: just for clarification, I am actually putting real values into the mysqli constructor :)

• What's the best way to manage a multi-user project on github?

  I'm looking to host a new project on github. This project will be worked on by two coders. One of these coders will also be the project manager who will have overall control over the github repo. I've followed the instructions regarding forking a github project at http://help.github.com/forking/. This all works fine and I'm working on the basis that the main repo is controlled by the lead coder, with the secondary coder working on a fork and submitting pull requests to the lead. A problem arises with this, however, when changes are made to the main branch and not pulled by the secondary coder into their fork. The secondary coder could then make changes to their own fork and submit a pull request to the lead, only for their patches to not match up with the main branch. What's the best way to manage this? I've not committed too much time to git/github, so I'm totally up for checking out other hosted solutions if they're better. Simplicity is the key!

• Do you use Scimore SQL database ?

  There's a database engine that looks amazing for a free tool and that is Scimore. Have you had much experience with it? If so, how does it rate..particularly against Firebird? How resilient/self reliant is it? (Meaning how much downtime/maintenance is expected?) The scale out capabilities also look very interesting. I just downloaded it and have been playing around and so far it looks good. I had been looking for an easy to deploy single-user type embedded database (which Scimore has an option) and was toying with MS SQL Compact Edition and SQLite and remembered this database from a trial a few years ago. (Windows platform) I was about ready to settle in on SQLite but started thinking about other projects which are multi-user and wanted to stick with a single solution...which is why I started looking at Firebird as well.

  I'd like to pre-store a bunch of function calls in a data structure and later evaluate/execute them from within another function. This works as planned for functions defined at namespace level with defn (even though the function definition comes after my creation of the data structure) but will not work with functions defined by let [name (fn or letfn inside the function.   How can I get a list of the IP addresses or host names from a local network easily in Python? It would be best if it was multi-platform, but it needs to work on Mac OS X first, then others follow. Edit: By local I mean all active addresses within a local network, such as 192.168.xxx.xxx. So, if the IP address of my computer (within the local network) is 192.168.1.1, and I have three other connected computers, I would want it to return the IP addresses 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3, 192.168.1.4, and possibly their hostnames.

• iPhone - UIView Animation not looping correctly

  Hey all, got a little problem here and can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to animate a UIView up and down repeatedly. When I start it, it goes down correctly and then back up but then immediately shoots to the "final" position of the animation. Via Google, I can only find answers to these related (and insufficient topics): generating Excel files, reading Excel XML files, reading Excel CSV files, or incomplete abandoned projects.   We have over 500 sites that we host. All of their ftp information is in a database. Whenever one of our programmers have to add a site they have to get all the info and set it up. However, I found that you can export them and it has all the info except for one problem. The password is encrypted. I am not trying to hack anything, I want to know how to encrypt our passwords so that we can import them using dreamweavers import feature. Can anyone tell me what encryption they use or a link on how to encrypt. I am not interested in decrypting at all because we already have all of them so it would not do me any good.

However, the first rule seldom returns a 504 Gateway Timeout error so I was thinking of failing over the second rule, yet I don't know how to achieve this. Is it possible?   I'm a relatively newbie to object oriented programming in JavaScript, and I'm unsure of the "best" way to define and use objects in JavaScript. I've seen the "canonical" way to define objects and instantiate a new instance, as shown below. function myObjectType(property1, propterty2) { this.property1 = property1, this.property2 = property2 } // now create a new instance var myNewvariable = new myObjectType('value for property1', 'value for property2'); But I've seen other ways to create new instances of objects in this manner: var anotherVariable = new someObjectType({ property1: "Some value for this named property", property2: "This is the value for property 2" }); I like how that second way appears - the code is self documenting. But my questions are: Which way is "better"? Can I use that second way to instantiate a variable of an object type that has been defined using the "classical"way of defining the object type with that implicit constructor?
