  • Design pattern for data entry forms with LINQ2SQL

    I am about to start a new winforms data entry application, it already has the database designed which I am comfortable with. I was going to use LINQ2SQL to access the tables to keep things type safe but am now wondering about design patterns, something I am just getting into. Since LINQ is giving me objects to use should I still create classes in between to hold the validation code and helper methods or should these just go in with the UI? It just seems I will end up with classes sat in between with little code which will cause the UI classes to have code just getting and setting values in the intermediate class and returning from validation to flag errors... Any good reading on this? Should I consider the entity framework (or similar) instead?

I want to use the orderID value from this first query as a parameter for the secondary accessdatasource control that selects the product information of the products in the order.     I think the best way to explain this is to tell you what I have. I have two tables A and B both have columns Field1 and Field2. However Field 2 is not populated in table B I want to populate field 2 of table B with field 2 of table A where field 1 of table A matches field 1 of table B. something like update tableB set Field2 = tableA.field2 where tablea.field1 = tableb.field1. I think I can make a select to count the table rows and then make an ordered update limited by 'COUNT - 10', but I was wondering if there is a better way. Thanks in advance.

    I'm still an undergrad just working part time and so I'm always trying to be aware of better ways to do things. Recently I had to write a program for work where the main thread of the program would spawn "task" threads (for each db "task" record) which would perform some operations and then update the record to say that it has finished. Therefore I needed a database connection object and PreparedStatement objects in or available to the ThreadedTask objects. This is roughly what I ended up writing, is creating a PreparedStatement object per thread a waste? I thought static PreparedStatments could create race conditions... Thread A stmt.setInt(); Thread B stmt.setInt(); Thread A stmt.execute(); Thread B stmt.execute(); A´s version never gets execed.. Is this thread safe?     I'm building a dml file that first deletes records that may be in the table, then inserts records. Example: DELETE from foo where field1='bar'; DELETE from foo where fields1='bazz'; INSERT ALL INTO foo(field1, field2) values ('bar', 'x') INTO foo(field1, field2) values ('bazz', 'y') SELECT * from DUAL; When I run the insert statement by itself, it runs fine. When I run the deletes, only the last delete runs. Also, it seems to be necessary to end the multiple insert with the select, is that so? If so, why is that necessary? In the past, when using MySQL, I could just list multiple delete and insert statements, all individually ending with a semicolon, and it would run fine.

Right now all of my tables are joined into my users table foreign keyed into the "userId" field How do i integrate asp.net_users table into my schema? here are the ideas i thought of: Add a membership_id field to my users table and on new inserts, include that new field in my users table. This seems like the cleanest way as i dont need to break any existing relationships. break all existing relationship and move all of the fields in my user table into the asp.net_users table. This seems like a pain but ultimately will lead to the most simple, normalized solution any thoughts?

    I have a trigger that contains two cursors loops, one nested inside the other like this: FOR outer_rec IN outer_cursor LOOP FOR inner_rec IN inner_cursor LOOP -- Do some calculations END LOOP; END LOOP; Somewhere in this it is throwing the following error: ORA-01422: exact fetch returns more than requested number of rows I've been trying to determine where it's coming from for an hour or so.. but should this error never happen? Also.. I am assuming the inner loop automatically closes and opens itself again every time the outer loop goes the next record, i hope this is correct.

    today my problem is this i have 2 column and i wish check if the sum of that columns isn't Higher then a value(485 for example) and if is do a query...i though to do SELECT * FROM table WHERE ColumnA+ColumnB<485 But isn't working... i've already tried with SELECT Sum(ColumnA)+Sum(ColumnB) AS Total FROM table but it gives me 1 column with the sum of all rows, i instead want a row for every sum. so how can i do..? xD i hope you understood if not just ask that i try to explain it better! and thanks in advice for who want to help me! EDIT: I Found out XD the problem was that the columns was Smallint and the result of 1 or more rows was more than 32k so it wasn't working! Thanks At all!!
