• Kohana3: Different .htaccess rewritebase and kohana base_url for dev and production environment

  In my bootstrap.php I have the following: if($_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] == 'localhost') Kohana::$environment = 'development'; else Kohana::$environment = 'production'; ... switch(Kohana::$environment) { case 'development': $settings = array('base_url' => '/kohana/', 'index_file' => FALSE); break; default: $settings = array('base_url' => '/', 'index_file' => FALSE); break; } In .htaccesshave this: # Installation directory RewriteBase /kohana/ This means that if I just upload my kohana application, it will break because the RewriteBase in the .htaccess file will be wrong. Is there a way I can have a conditional in the .htaccess file similar to the one I have in the bootstrap so that it will use the correct RewriteBase?

• Java JMS = HornetQ = javax.jms.JMSSecurityException: Unable to validate user: null ?

  Hello Experts, I am trying for several hours to get the HornetQ Examples running in Eclipse. Using the Standalone Examples everything works fine, but when I run the examples in Eclipse I get the following error: javax.jms.JMSSecurityException: Unable to validate user: null What could this error mean? Where do I have to specify the user? Maybe HornetQ tries to look this user up in "Some Context/Properties" etc , but I do not know where and how to specifiy the user HornetQ is running under. What i did: 1.)Started Default HornetQ Server with the start.sh Script in the ./bin directory 2.)Copied the QueueExample over to eclpise 3.)Did some minor changes in the config files (to have the same Queue Names...) (I also tried to disable security completely by setting: <security-enabled>false</security-enabled> but with no success, always getting the same error. Also when trying to programmatically instance HornetQ only via classes I get this error too). Thank you very much!! Jens

• Customizing UIPickerView

  Hi all, I have a requirement where UIPickerView should be customized. The picker view should look something like this: The application which has customized the pickerView similarly is: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/convert-the-unit-calculator/id325758140?mt=8 I have tried removing the default pickerView selection bar by resetting the property showsSelectionIndicator of UIImagePicker and adding a overlay view. But the problem is, the overlay view should be transparent so that the wheel behind it is visible. But the other application somehow does it even though the selection bar is not transparent.   I'm pulling my hair out over this. I just downloaded the iphone 3.0 SDK, but now I can't get my provisioning profiles to work. Here is what I have tried: Delete all provisioning profiles Delete login keychain Create new "login" keychain, make it default Create a new cert signing request Create new developer and distribution certs in the apple developer center Download and install them Download the WWDR cert and install it Create a new provisioning profile and double click it to install All the certificates report as valid, but xcode still won't recognize them. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks Edit: I completely re-installed osx and from a fresh install installed the 3.0 sdk and still the same problem.

• Just quick: How do you call a mutator from within a constructor in the same class?

  For a homework assignment the instructions state (within Undergrad class): You do NOT need to include a default constructor, but you must write a full parameterized constructor (it takes 4 arguments) -- this constructor calls the parent class parameterized constructor and the mutator for year level. Because Undergrad extends Student, then Student is my parent class, right? I just can't quite figure out how I'm to use my year level mutator (which is just the simplest of methods) to assign my "year" attribute. public void setYear(int inYear) { year = inYear; } public Student(String inName, String inID, int inCredits) { name = inName; id = inID; credits = inCredits; } public Undergrad(String inName, String inID, int inCredits,int inYear) { super(inName, inID, inCredits); year = inYear; } I keep missing assignments because I spend too much time on these small specific points of the homework so just asking for a little help. • NHibernate 2.1.2 in medium trust.

  I'm trying to configure nhibernate 2.1.2 to run in medium trust, without any luck. I have tried follwing the suggestions to run in medium trust and pre-generating the proxies. I then tried to remove all references to lazy loading setting the default-lazy="false" on all classes and bags. However this threw an exception asking me to configure the proxyfactory.factory_class None of these methds worked as they kept throwing generic security exceptions or throwing easying that libraries do not allow AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers. Am I using the wrong version of NHibernate if I want to run in medium trust? Is there a specific set of binaries, or source, which I should be using.

• Change present working directory of a calling shell from a ruby script

  I'm writing a simple ruby sandbox command-line utility to copy and unzip directories from a remote filesystem to a local scratch directory in order to unzip them and let users edit the files. I'm using Dir.mktmpdir as the default scratch directory, which gives a really ugly path (for example: /var/folders/zz/zzzivhrRnAmviuee+++1vE+++yo/-Tmp-/d20100311-70034-abz5zj) I'd like the last action of the copy-and-unzip script to cd the calling shell into the new scratch directory so people can access it easily, but I can't figure out how to change the PWD of the calling shell. One possibility is to have the utility print out the new path to stdout and then run the script as part of a subshell (i.e. cd $(sandbox my_dir) ), but I want to print out progress on the copy-and-unzipping since it can take up to 10 minutes, so this won't work. Should I just have it go to a pre-determined, easy-to-find scratch directory? Does anyone have a better suggestion? Thanks in advance for your help. -Erik

• SVN access denied when comparing revisions

  We're using an SVN repository. I am getting the error below when we try to compare a local unmodified file with the latest revision of the file in the repository. In other words, someone's checked in a change and if I update I will get their change but first I want to see what their change was. DOn't think it matters but we're using Xcode and using the menu item SCM - Compare With - Latest. Error: 220001 (Item is not readable) Description: Unreadable path encountered; access denied Any pointers where to look to fix this appreciated. I looked in the svnserve.conf which has the default settings. Nothing jumped out to me. Also, % svn log returns "svn: Item is not readable". Thanks, Gonzalo

• how to use Foreign key in L2E or EF?

  I have a User table which has a PrivilegeId foreign key points to a Privilege table and is the primary key there. In Entity Framework, the VS will not generate a PrivilegeId variable under Users for you. It will generate a Privilege property and PrivilegeReference property for you instead. When I load a User, the Privilege property is null by default. That means EF does not load refered entity for you automatically. I think I may did something wrong? I cannot load Privilege separatedly because I have no info about the Privilege at that time. I guess EF should load the refered entities for me but I missed something. anybody can help me?

• Unable to Access Zend Server 5 CE after installation

  I have previously installed WAMP on my windows, and now I am trying to install Zend Server 5 CE 5.3.1 Win x86. During the installation of Zend Server, there is a step asking about: web server port : 80 zend server interface port : 10081 I kept to the default. After the installation, I tried to access http://localhost,and is able to see zend test page. But I am unable to access http://localhost:10081/ZendServer, it was stated as page not found. Is it a conflict of my WAMP and the Zend Server? I remembered stopping the apache for WAMP, before trying to access ZS. Could anyone please advise me how to fix it? Thank you.

• Authenticating clients in the new WCF Http stack

  About this time last year, I wrote a couple of posts about how to use the “Interceptors” from the REST starker kit for implementing several authentication mechanisms like “SAML”, “Basic Authentication” or “OAuth” in the WCF Web programming model. The things have changed a lot since then, and Glenn finally put on our hands a new version of the Web programming model that deserves some attention and I believe will help us a lot to build more Http oriented services in the .NET stack. What you can get today from wcf.codeplex.com is a preview with some cool features like Http Processors (which I already discussed here), a new and improved version of the HttpClient library, Dependency injection and better TDD support among others. However, the framework still does not support an standard way of doing client authentication on the services (This is something planned for the upcoming releases I believe). For that reason, moving the existing authentication interceptors to this new programming model was one of the things I did in the last few days. In order to make authentication simple and easy to extend,  I first came up with a model based on what I called “Authentication Interceptors”. An authentication interceptor maps to an existing Http authentication mechanism and implements the following interface, public interface IAuthenticationInterceptor{ string Scheme { get; } bool DoAuthentication(HttpRequestMessage request, HttpResponseMessage response, out IPrincipal principal);} An authentication interceptors basically needs to returns the http authentication schema that implements in the property “Scheme”, and implements the authentication mechanism in the method “DoAuthentication”. As you can see, this last method “DoAuthentication” only relies on the HttpRequestMessage and HttpResponseMessage classes, making the testing of this interceptor very simple (There is no need to do some black magic with the WCF context or messages). After this, I implemented a couple of interceptors for supporting basic authentication and brokered authentication with SAML (using WIF) in my services. The rest is a general implementation of the basic authentication mechanism using standard http request and response messages. This class is part of WIF, and basically represents a collection of token managers to know how to handle specific xml authentication tokens (SAML is one of them). I will use another post to discuss more in detail how the brokered authentication with SAML model works with this new WCF Http bits. The code is available to download in this location.

• How to share cookies across multiple Apache Virtual Hosts

  This question is generally phrased as "How to share cookies across multiple subdomains" and the answer is generally to use the leading dot like so setcookie( 'id', 0, time()+30*3600, '/', '.example.com' ); which means that the cookie is available to all subdomains of example.com. However, the / path I suspect adds the constraint that all subdomains must be physically under the same tree. The PHP documentation states path The path on the server in which the cookie will be available on. If set to '/', the cookie will be available within the entire domain. If set to '/foo/', the cookie will only be available within the /foo/ directory and all sub-directories such as /foo/bar/ of domain. The default value is the current directory that the cookie is being set in. Is it possible to share cookies if one has two (Apache) Virtual Hosts set up with document roots at, for example www.one.example.com ? /var/www/example1 www.two.example.com ? /var/www/example2

• Why shouldn't I always use nullable types in C#.

  I've been searching for some good guidance on this since the concept was introduced in .net 2.0. Why would I ever want to use non-nullable data types in c#? (A better question is why wouldn't I choose nullable types by default, and only use non-nullable types when that explicitly makes sense.) Is there a 'significant' performance hit to choosing a nullable data type over its non-nullable peer? I much prefer to check my values against null instead of Guid.empty, string.empty, DateTime.MinValue,<= 0, etc, and to work with nullable types in general. And the only reason I don't choose nullable types more often is the itchy feeling in the back of my head that makes me feel like it's more than backwards compatibility that forces that extra '?' character to explicitly allow a null value. Is there anybody out there that always (most always) chooses nullable types rather than non-nullable types? Thanks for your time,

  Hi, I have a requirement to work on a VS2003 web project. I have VS2008,vs2010,vs2003 installed in my system Other System details are Windows Xp professional version 2 service pack 3. IIS 5.1 When i am trying to create a VS 2003 web project giving the localhost as path i am getting the following error. "visual studio noted that specified web server is not running under asp .net 1.1 version.You will be unable to run asp .net web applications or services". I have used aspnet_regiis commands as well as a tool(ASPNETVersionSwitcher.exe ) to swith versions and in iis also default web site asp.net version chosen as asp .net 1.14322. Still i am getting the error. same error i get ,if i point a virtual directory in the existing 1.1 .net web application and trying to open it. Please advise since i have to work on this project as soon as possible. Thanks SNA

• suggestions for Membership in ASP.NET MVC application

  With this question I am mostly looking for answers from people that have implemented the out-of-the-box ASP.NET membership in their own database - I've set up the tables inside my database and as far as I can see they contain mostly what I need but not everything. I will have the notion of a Firm (Company) to which Users will belong so I will have to associate the aspnet_Users with my Firms table (each user will be a member of exactly one firm). If possible, provide some guidelines how did you do it and what I might run into if I have to modify the table design at some point in the future. Preferably I will be using the default Membership provider. I am having trouble to decide whether to go from scratch or use what ASP.NET already offers.

  Hi, I'm developing a web application that has to support lots of simultaneous requests, and I'd like to keep it fast enough. I have now to implement a logging strategy, I'm gonna use log4net, but ... what and how should I log? I mean: How logging impacts in performance? is it possible/recomendable logging using async calls? Is better use a text file or a database? Is it possible to do it conditional? for example, default log to the database, and if it fails, the switch to a text file. What about multithreading? should I care about synchronization when I use log4net? or it's thread safe out of the box? In the requirements appear that the application should cache a couple of things per request, and I'm afraid of the performance impact of that. Cheers.

• Eclipse: Subclipse "Edit Conflicts"

  I have found that when using Subclipse to edit conflicts, all my syntax color settings are preserved except for the background color, which is reset to the standard white. Using my particular color scheme makes it almost impossible to read any of the text when stuck with a white background. Is there anywhere I can change this default background color? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this from the preferences window, but perhaps there is a config file somewhere I could edit? Any help would be very much appreciated (my eyes will thank you too)!

If i set that to true, than the system considers the blank input as valid so i get a null Double class. If i set it to false then the system chokes on the blank input string with: org.springframework.beans.TypeMismatchException: Failed to convert value of type 'java.lang.String' to required type 'double'; nested exception is java.lang.NumberFormatException: empty String Does anyone know how to get the defaultValue to work for Doubles? So my (prepared) statement looks like this: MERGE INTO table USING (VALUES(CAST(? AS VARCHAR(36)))) AS v(x) ON ID_MAP.UUID = v.x WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT VALUES v.x When I execute the statement (setting the placeholder correctly), I always get a Caused by: org.hsqldb.HsqlException: row column count mismatch Could you please give me a hint, what is going wrong here?   I have a pdf form that uses Acrobat 8 features. The form contains Javascript that interacts with the hosting web page. Some of my Windows users have both Adobe Acrobat and Acrobat Reader installed, and need Adobe Acrobat to be the default handler for pdf files. The users with Adobe Acrobat 7 are unable to use the form, even though they might have Acrobat Reader 8 or 9 installed.
