  • Where is debian storing its network settings?

    - by user13743
I have a debian machine that is supposed to have a static ip, but insists on getting its address from the DHCP server. Here's this settings file: $> cat /etc/network/interfaces # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.99 gateway 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 Yet $> sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Reconfiguring network interfaces...done. $> sudo ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:e0:03:09:05:2e inet addr:192.168.1.205 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 ... Where is it being told to use dhcp?

  • Arch Linux shows a blinking cursor instead of a booting installer

    - by fakedrake
Arch Linux shows a blinking cursor instead of a booting installer. I ran sudo dd if=archlinux-2010.05-core-i686.iso of=/dev/sdb1 and checked the MD5 sums. I tried to boot it on two different PCs and got the same result: instead of booting GRUB — or anything useful, for that matter — it just showed a blinking cursor at the top left corner of the screen. The machines became unresponsive to any kind of input, the flash drive LED didn't seem to blink or shiver at all and there seemed to be no other activity whatsoever. I tried using another flash drive, but the machine completely ignored it, booting Windows "normally."

  • How can I open PowerShell via AutoHotkey?

    - by Ryan
I'm running AutoHotkey 1.0.48.05 on Windows 7. I'd like CTRL-ALT-P to open PowerShell. This is what I have so far: ^!p:: Run %SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe Return This is the error I get: File C:\Users[username]\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\profile.ps1 cannot be loaded because the execution of scripts is disabled on this system. Please see "get-help about_signing" for more details. I've already set the execution policy to RemoteSigned by opening PowerShell ISE as Administrator and running Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned. (See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee176949.aspx) How can I get around this problem?

  • How can I share files from my Windows 7 machine to my friend's Ubuntu machine?

    - by ProfKaos
I run a Windows 7 Pro SP1 laptop as my home machine, and my housemate runs an Ubuntu 12.04.1.05 desktop. We share a WLAN. I would like to make certain locations and files available for him to read and maybe write. How can I go about this? Bearing in mind I have very little recent experience with modern Linux, and Ubuntu in particular. My first idea is to share a Windows folder with my Ubuntu VM under VMWare Player, then his Ubuntu machine can connect to my Unbuntu VM, and the two can use whatever magic Ubuntu uses to achieve file sharing. This requires my Ubuntu VM to be always running though, and that may not always be possible. I have also heard that Samba may have a feature to help here, but I know nothing about that. How can I share my Windows files with my mate's Ubuntu machine, preferably with a 1 to 1 connection, i.e. rather not using shim VM's

  • Debian 5.0.8 won't detect my ethernet adapter

    - by PaulH
I'm installing Debian 5.0.8 on a Dell Latitude E6410 using the network install x86 CD. Unfortunately, it won't detect my Ethernet adapter. Specifically, I get the error: No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list. lspci shows: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 10ea (rev 05) That should correspond to the e100e driver. But, if I select it from the list, the install CD still fails to detect it. Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 are able to use this device with no problem. Does anybody know what I can do to make Debian use my Ethernet adapter? Thanks, PaulH

  • How to remove bad disk from LVM2 with the less data loss on other PVs?

    - by Walkman
I had a LVM2 volume with two disks. The larger disk became corrupt, so I cant pvmove. What is the best way to remove it from the group to save the most data from the other disk? Is it possible to do this without a new disk ? The filesystem is ext4.

  • Multiple Graphics Cards on Fedora 15 (Gnome 3)

    - by Michael
I have the (delightful) misfortune of having 3 graphics cards. They are XFX Radeon 5750s. Each drives 2 monitors via dvi. I am having a really hard time getting these running on fedora 15 (gnome 3). So my setup is 3 columns of 2 monitors (the upper monitor is mounted upside down in each column to reduce the bezel between monitors). When the (graphical) login screen comes up all 6 have the blue stripey background that must be the default, but then when I login, things get interesting. In the xorg.conf below, you will see only 2 of the screens in the serverlayout while the other 4 are commented out. Logging in with only 2 of the screens active works well (and it even remembers that the top one is upside down, and should be considered above the lower, i am not sure where it stores this info, but i set it using the graphical "Displays" settings) However, as soon as I uncomment a third screen, or more, it gives me an error message when I login. It's one of those friendly, less helpful messages (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again). If i do not use an xorg.conf, then the "Displays" prefs pane shows only the two monitors on one of my graphics cards Thanks to anyone who can help me get going! • Sending a file to uCLinux

    - by Mike
I have a board running uClinux, and I need to send a file to it, but I'm not sure how... I have a RS232 port, and Ethernet port with an IP address at my disposal, I can telnet to the board, but uCLinux doesn't have a built in FTP client. What sort of options do I have here for transferring files from my Windows 7 (or OpenSUSE) machine(s) to this board? EDIT I just found I have a TFTP server on it: # tftp BusyBox v0.60.5 (2012.07.09-14:05+0000) multi-call binary Usage: tftp [OPTION]... HOST [PORT] But I can't find any good information on how to use TFTP. And looking around google I'm seeing it's good for loading binary images, so I'm assume anything could be sent, but I'm not sure.

  • VirtualBox error with Ubuntu virtual machine

    - by user2985363
I am trying to work on a coding project and cannot open my Ubuntu virtual machine with Oracle VM VirtualBox. I took a snapshot yesterday at about 11, and it was working fine. Several times I closed and reopened it. Today when I tried to open it, I kept getting the error below. Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit. VM cannot start because the saved state file 'C:\Users\Tyler\VirtualBox VMs\Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit\Snapshots\2014-01-30T19-59-05-976647800Z.sav' is invalid (VERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND). Deleted the saved state prior to starting the VM. I tried deleting the file as it said, but none of the snapshots would open still. The file is still in my recycling bin. What can I do? Also, I took the 1/31 snapshot today before I deleted the previous one.

  • Sorting Files into Subfolders based on EXIF Date

    - by honestor
I have a huge directory from a HDD recovery that contains 70000+ JPEG files. I tried playing around with some AppleScripts, that I found, but had no luck. I already installed EXIFtool, which might be useful for this task. The current directory structure is as follows: dir001 - file0001.jpg ... - file9999.jpg dir002 - file0001.jpg ... - file9999.jpg ... dir070 - file0001.jpg - ... - file9999.jpg The files mostly have EXIF Data, but sometimes there are Files without metadata. Now I hope to be able to sort and rename these files into folders based on the date: 1999 - 1999 01 31 - 1999_01_31_-_22_59_59.jpg 2000 - 2000 05 20 - 2000_05_20_-_21_59_59.jpg - 2000_05_20_-_22_59_59.jpg I figured Applescript/Automator might come in handy for this, however every other solution would be welcome, too!

  • VMWare Lab Manager: What's the best way to build Library Configurations?

    - by mcohen75
We're using Lab Manager within our QA group. We use it to quickly deliver environments we need for testing. We have 25 Templates, 14 Library Configurations and counting. To build up our templates we: Create a base template that is a bare bones version of Server 2008 + basic configuration (Windows Update, Firewall exceptions) Create a linked clone for each Server template we need (SQL Server 08, 05, etc) Repeat for other OS's, like Windows 7 and Windows XP Then we create configurations: Create a workspace configuration with multiple images in it (Say Server 08 w/SQL Server and Windows 7) Deploy the configuration and make some minor configuration changes Undeploy and Capture to Library How do we keep this manageable? When I need to update a configuration, should I: Rebuild it from templates Clone it to a workspace, make changes, recapture it to the library keep the configuration in my workspace (don't delete it after capturing it to library), deploy it to make changes and then re-capture to library

  • Access logs show someone "GET"ing a random ip, why does this return 200?

    - by Wilduck
I have a small linux box set up with Apache as a way to teach myself Apache. I've set up port forwarding on my router so it's accessible from the outside world, and I've gotten a few strange requests for pages that don't exist from an ip address in China. Looking at my access_log shows that most of these return 404 errors, which I'm guessing is a good thing. However, there is one request that looks like this: 58.218.204.110 - - [25/Dec/2010:19:05:25 -600] "GET http://173.201.161.57/ HTTP/1.1" 200 3895 I'm curious what this request means... That ip address is unconnected to my server as far as I know, and visiting it simply tells me information about my uid. So, my questions are: How is it that this request is showing up in my access_log, why is it returning 200, and is this a bad thing (do I need to set up more security)?

  • Running a cronjob

    - by Ed01
've been puzzling over cronjobs for the last few hours. I've read documentation and examples. I understand the basics and concepts, but haven't gotten anything to work. So I would appreciate some help with this total noob dilemma. The ultimate goal is to schedule the execution of a django function every day. Before I get that far, I want to know that I can schedule any old script to run, first once, then on a regular basis. So I want to: 1) Write a simple script (perhaps a bash script) that will allow me to determine that yes, it did indeed run successfully, or that it failed. 2) schedule this script to run at the top of the hour I tried writing a bash script that simple output some text to the terminal: #!/bin/bash echo "The script ran" Then I dropped this into a .txt file MAILTO = *****.******@gmail.com 05 * * * * /home/vadmin/development/test.sh But nothing happened. I'm sure I did many things wrong. Where do I start to fix all of this?

  • Parsing GeoRSS Feed with jQuery

    - by senfo
I'm attempting to use the jQuery jFeed plugin for parsing an Atom, GeoRSS feed and I'm running into issues extracting the information I need. For example, I need to extract the summary element and I would like to render the contents in a div on my HTML page. Additionally, I'd like to extract the contents from the georss:point elements and pass them into Google Maps to render them as points on a map. The problem is that it seems jFeed is stripping out the GeoRSS-related information. For example, I can extract the title element without issues, but it seems it doesn't extract the summary or georss:point elements, at all. Following is a snippet of the XML I'm working with: <feed xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" xmlns:georss="http://www.georss.org/georss"> <title>Search Results from DataWarehouse.HRSA.gov</title> <link rel="self" href="http://datawarehouse.hrsa.gov/HGDWDataWebService/HGDWDataService.aspx?service=HC&zip=20002&radius=10"/> <link rel="alternate" href="http://datawarehouse.hrsa.gov/"/> <author> <name>HRSA Geospatial Data Warehouse</name> </author> <id>tag:datawarehouse.hrsa.gov,2010-04-05:/</id> <updated>2010-04-05T19:25:28-05:00</updated> <entry> <title>Christ House</title> <link href="http://www.christhouse.org" /> <id>tag:datawarehouse.hrsa.gov,2010-04-05:/D388C4C6-FFA4-4091-819B-64D67DC64931</id> <summary type="xhtml"> <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <div class="vcard"> <div class="fn org">Christ House</div> <div class="adr"> <div class="street-address">1717 Columbia Rd. Am I doing something wrong or was jFeed simply not designed to work the way I want it to?

It seems to choke after the line "dv = sds.Select(New DataSourceSelectArguments())" in the code.

  • How to query with the datetime value using LINQ to XML ?

    - by Shailesh Jaiswal
I am developing window phone 7 application in silverlight. I am new to the silverlight. I am also new to LINQ to XML. In my application the user select the date & submit some transaction details into the application. The details gets stored in XML File. I am using the custom date control in my application for the date selection as follows private void DatePicker_ValueChanged(object sender, DateTimeValueChangedEventArgs e) { AppObj = Application.Current as App; AppObj.date = (DateTime)EntryDate.Value; } Then the value of AppObj.date gets stored in the XML file. Sometimes I use the DateTime. Now to store the date in the XML File. Now I want to generate the report of submitted transaction details by querying through LINQ to XML. I want to generate the report for today's date, current week & current month. For this purpose I am using the following code public void GetTransactionObjects(String strXMLFile, DateTime VDateTime) { XDocument doc = null; XMLFileManager XMLDocObj = new XMLFileManager(); doc = XMLDocObj.LoadXMLFile(strXMLFile); var vTransaction = from s in doc.Descendants("Transaction") .Where(x => x.Element("Current_Date").Value == VDateTime.ToShortDateString()) select new Transaction(s); this.Clear(); AddRange(vTransaction); } The Transaction class contains the following constructor. public Transaction(XElement xElement) { Transaction_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("Transaction_ID").Value.ToString()); TransactionType_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("TransactionType_ID").Value.ToString()); Alphabet_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("Alphabet_ID").Value.ToString()); ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("ID").Value.ToString()); SubCategory_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("SubCategory_ID").Value.ToString()); Item_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("Item_ID").Value.ToString()); Currency_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("Currency_ID").Value.ToString()); InputTypeMethod_ID = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("InputTypeMethod_ID").Value.ToString()); Principle = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("InputTypeMethod_ID").Value.ToString()); Interest = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("Interest").Value.ToString()); ROI = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("InputTypeMethod_ID").Value.ToString()); Amount = Convert.ToInt32(xElement.Element("InputTypeMethod_ID").Value.ToString()); Current_Date = Convert.ToDateTime(xElement.Element("Current_Date").Value.ToString()); } In the XML File the value gets stored for date & time. The value gets stored as follows 0 0 3 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 5000 2010-12-31T18:08:23.433+05:30 Look at the node <Current_Date>2010-12-31T18:08:23.433+05:30</Current_Date> The date format is yyyy-mm-dd. Now how should I write the following query to get all the submitted transaction details for today's date ? var vTransaction = from s in doc.Descendants("Transaction") .Where(x => x.Element("Current_Date").Value == VDateTime.ToShortDateString()) select new Transaction(s); Similarly how should I write the query to get all the transaction details for the current week & current month? Can you please provide me any code or link through which I can resolve the above issue ? If I am doing anything wrong then please guide me.

  • news feed using .Net Dataservices / OData / Atom ?

    - by Stephan
Let's say I have an web CMS type application, and an EDM model with an entity called 'article', and I need to offer the ability for client applications, to a read/query the articles (and other resources stored in our database) a straightforward syndication feed of these articles to end users (along the lines of a simple RSS feed) It seems to me that for the first task, and .net 4's dataservice would be perfect for the job. For the second case, I'm wondering (a) whether atom the right format to choose - I think it is - and (b) whether it's possible to achieve such a feed using the same ado.net OData service. I took a look at some of the examples out there and briefly set up a proof of concept: http://localhost/projectname/DataService.svc/Articles <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?> <feed xml:base="http://localhost/projectname/DataService.svc/" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices" xmlns:m="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/metadata" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom"> <title type="text">Articles</title> <id>http://localhost/projectname/DataService.svc/Articles</id> <updated>2010-05-21T09:41:22Z</updated> <link rel="self" title="Articles" href="Articles" /> <entry> <id>http://---------DataService.svc/Articles(1)</id> <title type="text"></title> <updated>2010-05-21T09:41:22Z</updated> <author> <name /> </author> <link rel="edit" title="Article" href="Articles(1)" /> <category term="Model1.Article" scheme="http://schemas.microsoft.com/ado/2007/08/dataservices/scheme" /> <content type="application/xml"> <m:properties> <d:int_ContentID m:type="Edm.Int32">1</d:int_ContentID> <d:Titel>hello world</d:Titel> <d:Source>http://www.google.com</d:Source> </m:properties> </content> </entry> </feed> and noticed that, though the feed works and items are showing up, the title tag on the entry level is left blank. (as a result, when you check this feed in a feed reader, you will see no title). I searched msdn but haven't found a way to do that, but it should be possible. Stackoverflow itself uses an atom feed in that fashion, so it should be possible. Right? So I suppose my question is; Is there a way to make the ado.net dataservice Atom feed look like something suitable for your average news feed reader? - OR, am I using the wrong tool for the wrong purposes, and should I be looking elsewhere (.net syndication API's perhaps)?

  • g++ symbol versioning. Set it to GCC_3.0 using version 4 of g++

    - by Ismael
Hi all I need to implemente a Java class which uses JNI to control a fiscal printer in XUbuntu 8.10 with sun-java6-jdk installed. The structure is the following: EpsonDriver.java loads libEpson.so libEpson is linked dynamically with EpsonFiscalProtocol.so ( provided by Epson, no source available ) and pthread I use javah to generate the header file, and the code compiles. Then I put the libEpson.so in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/i386, and EpsonDriver.java uses an static initializar System.loadLibrary("libEpson") That part works, however, when I try to use any of the methods I get an unsatisfiedLinkError exception. • log-back and thirdparty writing to stdout. How to stop them getting interleaved.

    - by David Roussel
First some background. I have a batch-type java process run from a DOS batch script. All the java logging goes to stdout, and the batch script redirects the stdout to a file. (This is good for me because I can ECHO from the script and it gets into the log file, so I can see all the java JVM command line args, which is great for debugging.) I may not I use slf4j API, and for the backend I used to use log4j, but recently switched to logback-classic. Although all my application code uses slf4j, I have a third party library that does it's own logging (not using a standard API) which also gets written to stdout. The problem is that sometimes log lines get mixed up and don't cleanly appear on separate lines. Here is an example of some messed up output: 2010-05-28 18:00:44.783 [thread-1 ] INFO CreditCorrelationElementBuilderImpl - Bump parameters exist for scenario, now attempting bumping. [indexDisplayName=STANDARD_S1_v300] 2010-05-28 18:01:43.517 [thread-1 ] INFO CreditCorrelationElementBuilderImpl - Found adjusted point in data, now applying bump. So logback must be doing something different. The problem seems to be that although PrintStream.write(byte buf[], int off, int len) is synchronized, however I can see in ch.qos.logback.core.joran.spi.ConsoleTarget that System.out.write(int b) is the only write method called. So inbetween logback outputting each byte, the thirdparty library is managing to write a whole string to the stdout. (Not only is this cause me a problem, but it must also be a little inefficient?) Is there any other fix to this interleaving problem than patching the code to ConsoleTarget so it implments the other write methods? Any nice work arounds. Or should I just file a bug report? Here is my logback.xml: <configuration> <appender name="STDOUT" class="ch.qos.logback.core.ConsoleAppender"> <encoder> <pattern>%d{yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS} [%-16thread] %-5level %-35.35logger{30} - %msg%n</pattern> </encoder> </appender> <root level="DEBUG"> <appender-ref ref="STDOUT" /> </root> </configuration> I'm using logback 0.9.20 with java 1.6.0_07.

  • Cannot decode complete cipher list in .NET SslStream handshake.

    - by karmasponge
    While attempting to move from a 'C' based SSL implementation to C# using the .NET SslStream and we have run into what look like cipher compatibility issues with the .NET SslStream and a AS400 machine we are trying to connect to (which worked previously). When we call SslStream.AuthenticateAsClient it is sending the following: 16 03 00 00 37 01 00 00 33 03 00 4d 2c 00 ee 99 4e 0c 5d 83 14 77 78 5c 0f d3 8f 8b d5 e6 b8 cd 61 0f 29 08 ab 75 03 f7 fa 7d 70 00 00 0c 00 05 00 0a 00 13 00 04 00 02 00 ff 01 00 Which decodes as (based on http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/ssl/draft302.txt) [16] Record Type [03 00] SSL Version [00 37] Body length [01] SSL3_MT_CLIENT_HELLO [00 00 33] Length (51 bytes) [03 00] Version number = 768 [4d 2c 00 ee] 4 Bytes unix time [… ] 28 Bytes random number [00] Session number [00 0c] 12 bytes (2 * 6 Cyphers)? Have I decoded it correctly? What does, if anything, '00 FF' decode too?
