  • Shares not working on boot need to reinstall "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" on server every morning to fix

    - by Neaox
I had a problem a few days ago see question here: Can no longer access computer or network shares to my server from any other computers on the network The fix that I found does in fact work however when I boot my PC in the morning the shares are no longer working, to fix this I need to remote desktop into the server and re-install "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" on the main adaptor. Doing this makes the shares work again, however it is anoying to have to do this each and every morning. On top of this my offline files are no longer available offline: I store my user profile on the server and had them selected to be "Always Available" however since this has happened they are no longer available offline and the option to make them available offline from the context menu is no longer available. Another problem, and I don't know if this is the cause or just a tell of a deeper issue but this server runs hyper-v, since these problems I can no longer remote desktop into the hyper-v client. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

  • Do any of the HP printers have implement printer sharing?

    - by BCS
I've seen several (home grade) HP prints that have network port and allow connecting to them via that. However I haven't seen any way to use it without installing the printer specific drives. This seems a bit silly because I've seen printer sharing system (SMB I think) that didn't seem to need any printer specific software. My question is: Is there a way to use one of these with my printers? (I'm omitting the exact model in the hopes that answers for several models (or a resource that answers it for several models) will be given.)

  • Good free way to clone a hard drive or a partition and send the image over the network (through FTP, Windows file sharing, "anything")?

    - by Deleted
What I ideally would like is a free software solution which can: Boot from a CD/DVD/USB-stick and Clone a complete hard drive or a partition and Send the resulting image file over the network through Windows file sharing (SMB, I could use SAMBA on my server to receive the image) or through FTP or through SFTP or through SCP It should work with Linux and Windows file-systems (where specific file system support is necessary) Is there anything good out there like this? I know Wikipedia lists a lot of cloning software. But I'm looking for a personal recommendation which you have used yourself, as I find it more credible (I'll see from the upvotes if the answer is liked by a lot of visitors).

  • android alarm not able to launch alarm activity

    - by user965830
I am new to android programming and am trying to make this simple alarm app. I have my code written and it is compiled with no errors. The app runs in the emulator, that is the main activity asks the date and time, but when i click on the confirm button, it displays the message - "Unfortunately, Timer1 has stopped working." The code for my main activity is as follows: public void onClick(View v) { EditText date = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editDate); EditText month = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editMonth); EditText hour = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editHour); EditText min = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editMin); int dt = Integer.parseInt(date.getText().toString()); int mon = Integer.parseInt(month.getText().toString()); int hr = Integer.parseInt(hour.getText().toString()); int mnt = Integer.parseInt(min.getText().toString()); Intent myIntent = new Intent(MainActivity.this, AlarmActivity.class); pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getService(MainActivity.this, 0, myIntent, 0); AlarmManager alarmManager = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE); Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance(); calendar.set(Calendar.DATE, dt); calendar.set(Calendar.MONTH, mon); calendar.set(Calendar.HOUR, hr); calendar.set(Calendar.MINUTE, mnt); alarmManager.set(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, calendar.getTimeInMillis(), pendingIntent); } I do not understand what all the errors in logcat mean, so i am posting them: 06-25 16:03:32.175: I/Process(566): Sending signal. • Trouble with datasource not being called from viewWillAppear

    - by user278859
    A little background. I have taken GCCalendar which only works in portrait orientation and extended it to work in landscape similar to how the iPhone's Calendar app works. I did this by duplicating the main view class and modifying it to work in landscape. So when the phone is in portrait orientation the CGCalendar is instantiated from the apps main view controller using the original portrait view class and when in landscape orientation using the new modified landscape view class. Most of the other classes in GCCalendar are shared without modification. A few had to be duplicated as well. I got it all working great except for an issue with the datasource. The datasource is called when the calendar is first loaded and each time the user changes the dates being viewed. Problem is I can't get the datasource call to work on the first call. I am stumped as it works fine in portrait orientation and I cannot find any difference between the 2 versions. Following is some of the code that shows how it gets to the datasource call the first time. Subsequent calls removes all the calendar subviews and instantiates them again with the new dates. The duplicated landscape class names end in LS. Otherwise as you can see they are identical. Does anyone has any idea of where else I might look to resolve this issue? Thanks, John -------------------------------- //App main view controller - (void)showLandscapeCalendar { GCCalendarLandscapeView *calendar = [[[GCCalendarLandscapeView alloc] init] autorelease]; calendar.dataSource = self; calendar.delegate = self; navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:calendar]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; } - (void)showPortraitCalendar { GCCalendarPortraitView *calendar = [[[GCCalendarPortraitView alloc] init] autorelease]; calendar.dataSource = self; calendar.delegate = self; navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:calendar]; [self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES]; } - (NSArray *)calendarEventsForDate:(NSDate *)date{ //build and return the events array //this is the protocol datasource method //It is supposed to run every time the date changes in the calendar } ------------------------------- // GCCalendarLandscapeView... - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; if (viewDirty) { [self reloadDayAnimated:NO context:NULL]; viewDirty = NO; } viewVisible = YES; } - (void)reloadDayAnimated:(BOOL)animated context:(void *)context { GCCalendarDayViewLS *nextDayView = [[GCCalendarDayViewLS alloc] initWithCalendarView:self]; } ------------------------------- //GCCalendarDayViewLS - (id)initWithCalendarView:(GCCalendarView *)view { if (self = [super init]) { dataSource = view.dataSource; } return self; } - (void)reloadData { //** first time through the dataSource method does not run events = [dataSource calendarEventsForDate:date]; } ------------------------------- // GCCalendarPortraitView... - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; if (viewDirty) { [self reloadDayAnimated:NO context:NULL]; viewDirty = NO; } viewVisible = YES; } - (void)reloadDayAnimated:(BOOL)animated context:(void *)context { GCCalendarDayView *nextDayView = [[GCCalendarDayView alloc] initWithCalendarView:self]; } ------------------------------- //GCCalendarDayView - (id)initWithCalendarView:(GCCalendarView *)view { if (self = [super init]) { dataSource = view.dataSource; } return self; } - (void)reloadData { **//this one works every time events = [dataSource calendarEventsForDate:date]; }

  • Hello Operator, My Switch Is Bored

    - by Paul White
This is a post for T-SQL Tuesday #43 hosted by my good friend Rob Farley. The topic this month is Plan Operators. I haven’t taken part in T-SQL Tuesday before, but I do like to write about execution plans, so this seemed like a good time to start. This post is in two parts. The first part is primarily an excuse to use a pretty bad play on words in the title of this blog post (if you’re too young to know what a telephone operator or a switchboard is, I hate you). The second part of the post looks at an invisible query plan operator (so to speak). 1. My Switch Is Bored Allow me to present the rare and interesting execution plan operator, Switch: Books Online has this to say about Switch: Following that description, I had a go at producing a Fast Forward Cursor plan that used the TOP operator, but had no luck. That may be due to my lack of skill with cursors, I’m not too sure. The only application of Switch in SQL Server 2012 that I am familiar with requires a local partitioned view: CREATE TABLE dbo.T1 (c1 int NOT NULL CHECK (c1 BETWEEN 00 AND 24)); CREATE TABLE dbo.T2 (c1 int NOT NULL CHECK (c1 BETWEEN 25 AND 49)); CREATE TABLE dbo.T3 (c1 int NOT NULL CHECK (c1 BETWEEN 50 AND 74)); CREATE TABLE dbo.T4 (c1 int NOT NULL CHECK (c1 BETWEEN 75 AND 99)); GO CREATE VIEW V1 AS SELECT c1 FROM dbo.T1 UNION ALL SELECT c1 FROM dbo.T2 UNION ALL SELECT c1 FROM dbo.T3 UNION ALL SELECT c1 FROM dbo.T4; Not only that, but it needs an updatable local partitioned view. We’ll need some primary keys to meet that requirement: ALTER TABLE dbo.T1 ADD CONSTRAINT PK_T1 PRIMARY KEY (c1);   ALTER TABLE dbo.T2 ADD CONSTRAINT PK_T2 PRIMARY KEY (c1);   ALTER TABLE dbo.T3 ADD CONSTRAINT PK_T3 PRIMARY KEY (c1);   ALTER TABLE dbo.T4 ADD CONSTRAINT PK_T4 PRIMARY KEY (c1); We also need an INSERT statement that references the view. Even more specifically, to see a Switch operator, we need to perform a single-row insert (multi-row inserts use a different plan shape): INSERT dbo.V1 (c1) VALUES (1); And now…the execution plan: The Constant Scan manufactures a single row with no columns. The Compute Scalar works out which partition of the view the new value should go in. The Assert checks that the computed partition number is not null (if it is, an error is returned). The Nested Loops Join executes exactly once, with the partition id as an outer reference (correlated parameter). The Switch operator checks the value of the parameter and executes the corresponding input only. If the partition id is 0, the uppermost Clustered Index Insert is executed, adding a row to table T1. If the partition id is 1, the next lower Clustered Index Insert is executed, adding a row to table T2…and so on. In case you were wondering, here’s a query and execution plan for a multi-row insert to the view: INSERT dbo.V1 (c1) VALUES (1), (2); Yuck! An Eager Table Spool and four Filters! I prefer the Switch plan. My guess is that almost all the old strategies that used a Switch operator have been replaced over time, using things like a regular Concatenation Union All combined with Start-Up Filters on its inputs. Other new (relative to the Switch operator) features like table partitioning have specific execution plan support that doesn’t need the Switch operator either. This feels like a bit of a shame, but perhaps it is just nostalgia on my part, it’s hard to know. Please do let me know if you encounter a query that can still use the Switch operator in 2012 – it must be very bored if this is the only possible modern usage! 2. Invisible Plan Operators The second part of this post uses an example based on a question Dave Ballantyne asked using the SQL Sentry Plan Explorer plan upload facility. If you haven’t tried that yet, make sure you’re on the latest version of the (free) Plan Explorer software, and then click the Post to SQLPerformance.com button. That will create a site question with the query plan attached (which can be anonymized if the plan contains sensitive information). Aaron Bertrand and I keep a close eye on questions there, so if you have ever wanted to ask a query plan question of either of us, that’s a good way to do it. The problem The issue I want to talk about revolves around a query issued against a calendar table. The script below creates a simplified version and adds 100 years of per-day information to it: USE tempdb; GO CREATE TABLE dbo.Calendar ( dt date NOT NULL, isWeekday bit NOT NULL, theYear smallint NOT NULL,   CONSTRAINT PK__dbo_Calendar_dt PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED (dt) ); GO -- Monday is the first day of the week for me SET DATEFIRST 1;   -- Add 100 years of data INSERT dbo.Calendar WITH (TABLOCKX) (dt, isWeekday, theYear) SELECT CA.dt, isWeekday = CASE WHEN DATEPART(WEEKDAY, CA.dt) IN (6, 7) THEN 0 ELSE 1 END, theYear = YEAR(CA.dt) FROM Sandpit.dbo.Numbers AS N CROSS APPLY ( VALUES (DATEADD(DAY, N.n - 1, CONVERT(date, '01 Jan 2000', 113))) ) AS CA (dt) WHERE N.n BETWEEN 1 AND 36525; The following query counts the number of weekend days in 2013: SELECT Days = COUNT_BIG(*) FROM dbo.Calendar AS C WHERE theYear = 2013 AND isWeekday = 0; It returns the correct result (104) using the following execution plan: The query optimizer has managed to estimate the number of rows returned from the table exactly, based purely on the default statistics created separately on the two columns referenced in the query’s WHERE clause. (Well, almost exactly, the unrounded estimate is 104.289 rows.) There is already an invisible operator in this query plan – a Filter operator used to apply the WHERE clause predicates. We can see it by re-running the query with the enormously useful (but undocumented) trace flag 9130 enabled: Now we can see the full picture. The whole table is scanned, returning all 36,525 rows, before the Filter narrows that down to just the 104 we want. Without the trace flag, the Filter is incorporated in the Clustered Index Scan as a residual predicate. It is a little bit more efficient than using a separate operator, but residual predicates are still something you will want to avoid where possible. The estimates are still spot on though: Anyway, looking to improve the performance of this query, Dave added the following filtered index to the Calendar table: CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX Weekends ON dbo.Calendar(theYear) WHERE isWeekday = 0; The original query now produces a much more efficient plan: Unfortunately, the estimated number of rows produced by the seek is now wrong (365 instead of 104): What’s going on? The estimate was spot on before we added the index! Explanation You might want to grab a coffee for this bit. Using another trace flag or two (8606 and 8612) we can see that the cardinality estimates were exactly right initially: The highlighted information shows the initial cardinality estimates for the base table (36,525 rows), the result of applying the two relational selects in our WHERE clause (104 rows), and after performing the COUNT_BIG(*) group by aggregate (1 row). All of these are correct, but that was before cost-based optimization got involved :) Cost-based optimization When cost-based optimization starts up, the logical tree above is copied into a structure (the ‘memo’) that has one group per logical operation (roughly speaking). The logical read of the base table (LogOp_Get) ends up in group 7; the two predicates (LogOp_Select) end up in group 8 (with the details of the selections in subgroups 0-6). These two groups still have the correct cardinalities as trace flag 8608 output (initial memo contents) shows: During cost-based optimization, a rule called SelToIdxStrategy runs on group 8. It’s job is to match logical selections to indexable expressions (SARGs). It successfully matches the selections (theYear = 2013, is Weekday = 0) to the filtered index, and writes a new alternative into the memo structure. The new alternative is entered into group 8 as option 1 (option 0 was the original LogOp_Select): The new alternative is to do nothing (PhyOp_NOP = no operation), but to instead follow the new logical instructions listed below the NOP. The LogOp_GetIdx (full read of an index) goes into group 21, and the LogOp_SelectIdx (selection on an index) is placed in group 22, operating on the result of group 21. The definition of the comparison ‘the Year = 2013’ (ScaOp_Comp downwards) was already present in the memo starting at group 2, so no new memo groups are created for that. New Cardinality Estimates The new memo groups require two new cardinality estimates to be derived. First, LogOp_Idx (full read of the index) gets a predicted cardinality of 10,436. This number comes from the filtered index statistics: DBCC SHOW_STATISTICS (Calendar, Weekends) WITH STAT_HEADER; The second new cardinality derivation is for the LogOp_SelectIdx applying the predicate (theYear = 2013). To get a number for this, the cardinality estimator uses statistics for the column ‘theYear’, producing an estimate of 365 rows (there are 365 days in 2013!): DBCC SHOW_STATISTICS (Calendar, theYear) WITH HISTOGRAM; This is where the mistake happens. Cardinality estimation should have used the filtered index statistics here, to get an estimate of 104 rows: DBCC SHOW_STATISTICS (Calendar, Weekends) WITH HISTOGRAM; Unfortunately, the logic has lost sight of the link between the read of the filtered index (LogOp_GetIdx) in group 22, and the selection on that index (LogOp_SelectIdx) that it is deriving a cardinality estimate for, in group 21. The correct cardinality estimate (104 rows) is still present in the memo, attached to group 8, but that group now has a PhyOp_NOP implementation. Skipping over the rest of cost-based optimization (in a belated attempt at brevity) we can see the optimizer’s final output using trace flag 8607: This output shows the (incorrect, but understandable) 365 row estimate for the index range operation, and the correct 104 estimate still attached to its PhyOp_NOP. This tree still has to go through a few post-optimizer rewrites and ‘copy out’ from the memo structure into a tree suitable for the execution engine. One step in this process removes PhyOp_NOP, discarding its 104-row cardinality estimate as it does so. To finish this section on a more positive note, consider what happens if we add an OVER clause to the query aggregate. This isn’t intended to be a ‘fix’ of any sort, I just want to show you that the 104 estimate can survive and be used if later cardinality estimation needs it: SELECT Days = COUNT_BIG(*) OVER () FROM dbo.Calendar AS C WHERE theYear = 2013 AND isWeekday = 0; The estimated execution plan is: Note the 365 estimate at the Index Seek, but the 104 lives again at the Segment! We can imagine the lost predicate ‘isWeekday = 0’ as sitting between the seek and the segment in an invisible Filter operator that drops the estimate from 365 to 104. Even though the NOP group is removed after optimization (so we don’t see it in the execution plan) bear in mind that all cost-based choices were made with the 104-row memo group present, so although things look a bit odd, it shouldn’t affect the optimizer’s plan selection. I should also mention that we can work around the estimation issue by including the index’s filtering columns in the index key: CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX Weekends ON dbo.Calendar(theYear, isWeekday) WHERE isWeekday = 0 WITH (DROP_EXISTING = ON); There are some downsides to doing this, including that changes to the isWeekday column may now require Halloween Protection, but that is unlikely to be a big problem for a static calendar table ;)  With the updated index in place, the original query produces an execution plan with the correct cardinality estimation showing at the Index Seek: That’s all for today, remember to let me know about any Switch plans you come across on a modern instance of SQL Server! • Occasional Date or timezone discrepancy in hudson or maven with jodatime

    - by TheStijn
hi, I hope following explanation will make sense because it's a weird problem we're facing and hard to describe. We have a maven project which gets build in hudson and that contains some unit tests where dates are used and asserted. The hudson server runs on solaris. Now, occasionally (like 30% of the times) the unit tests using dates fail because 3,5 hours are deducted from the specified time in the unit test and hence asserts start failing. The other 70% everything works fine although nothing at all changed in the code and we run the hudson job several times an hour. I add following code to a unittest to check the time: @Test public void testDate() { System.out.println("new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate();"); System.out.println(new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate()); System.out.println(new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate().getTime()); Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cal.set(Calendar.YEAR, 2011); cal.set(Calendar.MONTH, 0); cal.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, 5); cal.set(Calendar.HOUR, 0); cal.set(Calendar.MINUTE, 0); cal.set(Calendar.SECOND, 0); cal.set(Calendar.MILLISECOND, 0); System.out.println("cal.getTime();"); System.out.println(cal.getTime()); System.out.println(cal.getTime().getTime()); } So basically it should print the same thing when using jodatime or plain old Calendar. This is the case in 70% of the runs; for the other 30% I get following printouts: Running TestSuite new DateMidnight(2011, 1, 5).toDate(); Tue Jan 04 21:30:00 MET 2011 1294173000000 cal.getTime(); Wed Jan 05 12:00:00 MET 2011 1294225200000 Local maven tests never appear the pose this problem and we can't figure out what could be the cause of it. Especially, we can't think of a single reason why the tests sometimes pass and sometimes fail without changing any code nor hudson or server setting. Also, we run the maven install with cobertura which means that the unit tests are run twice. It happens also that they pass the first time and fail the second time or the other way around or that they fail both times. Thanks for any help, Stijn

  • Using MySQL to generate daily sales reports with filled gaps, grouped by currency

    - by Shane O'Grady
    I'm trying to create what I think is a relatively basic report for an online store, using MySQL 5.1.45 The store can receive payment in multiple currencies. I have created some sample tables with data and am trying to generate a straightforward tabular result set grouped by date and currency so that I can graph these figures. I want to see each currency that is available per date, with a 0 in the result if there were no sales in that currency for that day. If I can get that to work I want to do the same but also grouped by product id. In the sample data I have provided there are only 3 currencies and 2 product ids, but in practice there can be any number of each. I can correctly group by date, but then when I add a grouping by currency my query does not return what I want. I based my work off this article. My reporting query, grouped only by date: SELECT calendar.datefield AS date, IFNULL(SUM(orders.order_value),0) AS total_value FROM orders RIGHT JOIN calendar ON (DATE(orders.order_date) = calendar.datefield) WHERE (calendar.datefield BETWEEN (SELECT MIN(DATE(order_date)) FROM orders) AND (SELECT MAX(DATE(order_date)) FROM orders)) GROUP BY date Now grouped by date and currency: SELECT calendar.datefield AS date, orders.currency_id, IFNULL(SUM(orders.order_value),0) AS total_value FROM orders RIGHT JOIN calendar ON (DATE(orders.order_date) = calendar.datefield) WHERE (calendar.datefield BETWEEN (SELECT MIN(DATE(order_date)) FROM orders) AND (SELECT MAX(DATE(order_date)) FROM orders)) GROUP BY date, orders.currency_id The results I am getting (grouped by date and currency): +------------+-------------+-------------+ | date | currency_id | total_value | +------------+-------------+-------------+ | 2009-08-15 | 3 | 81.94 | | 2009-08-15 | 45 | 25.00 | | 2009-08-15 | 49 | 122.60 | | 2009-08-16 | NULL | 0.00 | | 2009-08-17 | 45 | 25.00 | | 2009-08-17 | 49 | 122.60 | | 2009-08-18 | 3 | 81.94 | | 2009-08-18 | 49 | 245.20 | +------------+-------------+-------------+ The results I want: +------------+-------------+-------------+ | date | currency_id | total_value | +------------+-------------+-------------+ | 2009-08-15 | 3 | 81.94 | | 2009-08-15 | 45 | 25.00 | | 2009-08-15 | 49 | 122.60 | | 2009-08-16 | 3 | 0.00 | | 2009-08-16 | 45 | 0.00 | | 2009-08-16 | 49 | 0.00 | | 2009-08-17 | 3 | 0.00 | | 2009-08-17 | 45 | 25.00 | | 2009-08-17 | 49 | 122.60 | | 2009-08-18 | 3 | 81.94 | | 2009-08-18 | 45 | 0.00 | | 2009-08-18 | 49 | 245.20 | +------------+-------------+-------------+ The schema and data I am using in my tests: CREATE TABLE orders ( id INT PRIMARY KEY AUTO_INCREMENT, order_date DATETIME, order_id INT, product_id INT, currency_id INT, order_value DECIMAL(9,2), customer_id INT ); INSERT INTO orders (order_date, order_id, product_id, currency_id, order_value, customer_id) VALUES ('2009-08-15 10:20:20', '123', '1', '45', '12.50', '322'), ('2009-08-15 12:30:20', '124', '1', '49', '122.60', '400'), ('2009-08-15 13:41:20', '125', '1', '3', '40.97', '324'), ('2009-08-15 10:20:20', '126', '2', '45', '12.50', '345'), ('2009-08-15 13:41:20', '131', '2', '3', '40.97', '756'), ('2009-08-17 10:20:20', '3234', '1', '45', '12.50', '1322'), ('2009-08-17 10:20:20', '4642', '2', '45', '12.50', '1345'), ('2009-08-17 12:30:20', '23', '2', '49', '122.60', '3142'), ('2009-08-18 12:30:20', '2131', '1', '49', '122.60', '4700'), ('2009-08-18 13:41:20', '4568', '1', '3', '40.97', '3274'), ('2009-08-18 12:30:20', '956', '2', '49', '122.60', '3542'), ('2009-08-18 13:41:20', '443', '2', '3', '40.97', '7556'); CREATE TABLE currency ( id INT PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHAR(255) ); INSERT INTO currency (id, name) VALUES (3, 'Euro'), (45, 'US Dollar'), (49, 'CA Dollar'); CREATE TABLE calendar (datefield DATE); DELIMITER | CREATE PROCEDURE fill_calendar(start_date DATE, end_date DATE) BEGIN DECLARE crt_date DATE; SET crt_date=start_date; WHILE crt_date < end_date DO INSERT INTO calendar VALUES(crt_date); SET crt_date = ADDDATE(crt_date, INTERVAL 1 DAY); END WHILE; END | DELIMITER ; CALL fill_calendar('2008-01-01', '2011-12-31');

  • How can I print from my lion mac mini to my windows XP, with simple file sharing?

    - by Jules
I have quite a complicated setup, perhaps. And a lot of history on this issue, I'm hoping that I don't have to buy a new printer. I've got a HP Wireless USB Print Server, which requires client software, I can't just use it as an IP Printer. The HP software is pretty poor on the mac and is no longer supported and often locks up the printer server and takes some considerable effort to actually print something. Let alone if a windows machine attaches to it first. My printer is an Epson Stylus R285. However, the windows client software is fine and we can print from windows 7 / XP without problem. We have simple file sharing setup as this is the only way I could get windows XP to talk to windows 7. However, I can't seem to get my mac mini to connect as anything other than a guest to my xp machine, to connect to the shared printer. I'm not considering some kind of internet printing as this would seems the simplest solution. But I'm not sure what will work with my setup ?

  • How can I prevent a textbox from taking focus on the postback when I have a calendar extender on it?

    - by Biff MaGriff
Hello, I have repeater, inside this repeater is a user control. In my c# codebehind on my user control I dynamically add a textbox and assign a calendar extender to it. Similar to this. //custom control protected void Page_Load(object o, EventArgs e) { TextBox tb = new TextBox(); tb.ID = "myTextBox"; MaskedEditExtender meeDate = new MaskedEditExtender(); meeDate.ID = "meeDate"; meeDate.TargetControlID = this.UniqueID + "$" + tb.ID; meeDate.Mask = "99/99/9999"; meeDate.MaskType = MaskedEditType.Date; CalendarExtender ce = new CalendarExtender(); ce.ID = "ceCalendar"; ce.TargetControlID = this.UniqueID + "$" + tb.ID; this.Controls.Add(tbDate); this.Controls.Add(meeDate); this.Controls.Add(ce); } This works well, however after I postback the textbox takes focus and the calendar extender fires and it looks really.... dumb. How can I stop this?

  • Have you considered doing revenue sharing to fund development of a mobile app? How would you do it?

    - by Brennan
I am looking to build multiple mobile apps which leverage existing content and resources by enabling these mobile apps with web services. I will duplication much of the same features which are also in place and add more features that are possible on a mobile device like address book, maps and calendar integration to make the service much more useful. To fund these projects I see that I have 2 options. First I could simply quote them for the project based on my hourly rate and the estimate in hours that I will take the to complete the job. That may be a high number. The second option would be to do shared revenue with ads placed in the app. I could then take a percentage of any revenue that is generated from the app. There is also a hybrid where I might charge for a percentage of the estimated quote and then take a percentage of the revenue sharing. So my question is how much should I propose for the revenue sharing? Should it be 30%? Or maybe I should make it 70% up to a point that a certain dollar amount is reached? And should the revenue sharing agreement be for 12 months, 24 months or more? Should I include in the proposal an agreement that they will help promote this app with their content and resources? Ultimately this system will benefit both sides because it extends their reach into the mobile space instead of where they are currently with just print and web. I have tried to find some examples with a few Google searches but I keep hitting content about the Google and Apple revenue sharing models. I would like to get some solid examples that are working to compare against so that my proposal do build these apps is not completely off base.

  • How can I create a weekly calendar view for an Android Honeycomb application?

    - by BVB
I am working on an Android (v3.0) application that has a requirement of mimicking the weekly calendar layout found on Google Calendar: The events will be based on external requests through the Google Calendar API (I already have this part working). Using the API, I can obtain a list of events for the week, with each event having a starting and and ending datetime. I would like to use this data to show the scheduled events to the application's users in a view similar to the one above. Here's what I have so far: The XML appears below: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="800dp" Thus, whenever I would like to add an event that has a duration of 1.5 hours, I will make an 60dp button that I will place at the exact location that the time begins (12am = 0dp from the top, 1pm = 40dp from the top, 2pm = 80d from the top, etc). My questions are: Is there a better way of doing this? How can I convert my XML to be stand-alone view that could be added to any Android project? (I plan on perhaps making a blog post about the end product) Thank you!

  • Sharing DefaultHttpClient in Android. To synchronize or not to synchronize?

    - by johnrock
In an Android app, I am using one static instance of org.apache.http.impl.client.DefaultHttpClient and sharing that instance in all activities and services of the app, so that this client may be used to log in once to a remote server and all subsequent user requests to that remote server will remain authenticated. Every activity or Service that makes a GET or POST to this remote server calls the same method : MyUtilityClass.gettHttpClient() Do I need to worry about synchronization of this httpclient? If so, what is the best way to handle this?

  • How should i store availability calendar information in mysql? for [id] [date] [available/unavailab

    - by Haroldo
I'm building a simple calendar for holiday cottages to show when they are booked or available. What would be the fastest mysql table design for this, bearing in mind when users mark dates as available/booked they will do so via a start date and an end date. i can see 2 obvious options Store 'booked' data for every day [more rows] or, store 'booked' data with 2 columns a start_date and end_date [more processing?] Which is best or is there another method i'm missing?

  • FullCalendar displaying last weeks events below this weeks events

    - by Brian
I am developing an application to manage an On-Call calendar, using FullCalendar to render it. Most events are 1 week long, starting at 8:00 AM Tuesday and ending the following Tuesday at 8:00 AM. Another event, presumably with a different person on-call, will follow that event. During a hallway usability test, someone commented that the month calendar view was difficult to read because the previous weeks event is not at the top of the stack, instead rendering below the event that starts during that week. When being viewed, the eye perceives that it should go down 1 line to view the remaining timeline because the event from last week is there, instead of moving down to the following week. I investigated what I believe to be the problem: function segCmp(a, b) { return (b.msLength - a.msLength) * 100 + (a.event.start - b.event.start); } sorts the events for a row, but uses the length of the event in the calculation. Since the current week's event will have a longer duration, it always get sorted to the top. To test, I changed the start dates to Wednesday so the durations are closer. This cause the events to render how I would expect, with last weeks events at the top and this weeks at the bottom. I thought that if one of the events in the compare doesn't start that week, then it should only be compared based on the start times. I modified the function to be: function segCmp(a, b) { if (a.isStart == false || b.isStart == false) { return (a.event.start - b.event.start); } return (b.msLength - a.msLength) * 100 + (a.event.start - b.event.start); } This solved my problem, and the rendering now looks good - and passes the hallway test. What I don't know is if this would have an impact in other areas. I have taken a look at the other views (month, week, day) and they all seem to be rendering properly as well. I am just not familiar with FullCalendar enough to file a bug or feature request on this, or if this would even be considered a bug. I am wondering if what I modified is correct, or if it is not what a better modification would be to fix this issue. Thanks! Below I have the json results for what should be displayed: [{"title":"Person 1 - OnCall (OSS On Call)","id":12,"allDay":false,"start":"2010-11-30T15:00:00.0000000Z","end":"2010-12-07T15:00:00.0000000Z","editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/12"}, {"title":"Person 2 - OnCall (OSS On Call)","id":13,"allDay":false,"start":"2010-12-07T15:00:00.0000000Z","end":"2010-12-14T15:00:00.0000000Z","editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/13"}, {"title":"Person 3 - OnCall (OSS On Call)","id":14,"allDay":false,"start":"2010-12-14T15:00:00.0000000Z","end":"2010-12-21T15:00:00.0000000Z","editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/14"}, {"title":"Person 4 - OnCall (OSS On Call)","id":15,"allDay":false,"start":"2010-12-21T15:00:00.0000000Z","end":"2010-12-28T15:00:00.0000000Z","editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/15"}, {"title":"Person 5 - OnCall (OSS On Call)","id":16,"allDay":false,"start":"2010-12-28T15:00:00.0000000Z","end":"2011-01-04T15:00:00.0000000Z","editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/16"}, {"title":"Person 6 - OnCall (OSS On Call)","id":17,"allDay":false,"start":"2011-01-04T15:00:00.0000000Z","end":"2011-01-11T15:00:00.0000000Z","editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/17"}, {"title":"Christmas","id":2,"allDay":true,"start":"2010-12-25T07:00:00.0000000Z","end":null,"editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/2"}, {"title":"New Years Eve","id":3,"allDay":true,"start":"2010-12-31T07:00:00.0000000Z","end":null,"editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/3"}, {"title":"New Years Day","id":4,"allDay":true,"start":"2011-01-01T07:00:00.0000000Z","end":null,"editable":false,"className":"fc-event-title-calendar","url":"/TimeManagement/Edit/4"}]

  • Sharing Bandwidth and Prioritizing Realtime Traffic via HTB, Which Scenario Works Better?

    - by Mecki
I would like to add some kind of traffic management to our Internet line. After reading a lot of documentation, I think HFSC is too complicated for me (I don't understand all the curves stuff, I'm afraid I will never get it right), CBQ is not recommend, and basically HTB is the way to go for most people. Our internal network has three "segments" and I'd like to share bandwidth more or less equally between those (at least in the beginning). Further I must prioritize traffic according to at least three kinds of traffic (realtime traffic, standard traffic, and bulk traffic). The bandwidth sharing is not as important as the fact that realtime traffic should always be treated as premium traffic whenever possible, but of course no other traffic class may starve either. The question is, what makes more sense and also guarantees better realtime throughput: Creating one class per segment, each having the same rate (priority doesn't matter for classes that are no leaves according to HTB developer) and each of these classes has three sub-classes (leaves) for the 3 priority levels (with different priorities and different rates). Having one class per priority level on top, each having a different rate (again priority won't matter) and each having 3 sub-classes, one per segment, whereas all 3 in the realtime class have highest prio, lowest prio in the bulk class, and so on. I'll try to make this more clear with the following ASCII art image: Case 1: root --+--> Segment A | +--> High Prio | +--> Normal Prio | +--> Low Prio | +--> Segment B | +--> High Prio | +--> Normal Prio | +--> Low Prio | +--> Segment C +--> High Prio +--> Normal Prio +--> Low Prio Case 2: root --+--> High Prio | +--> Segment A | +--> Segment B | +--> Segment C | +--> Normal Prio | +--> Segment A | +--> Segment B | +--> Segment C | +--> Low Prio +--> Segment A +--> Segment B +--> Segment C Case 1 Seems like the way most people would do it, but unless I don't read the HTB implementation details correctly, Case 2 may offer better prioritizing. The HTB manual says, that if a class has hit its rate, it may borrow from its parent and when borrowing, classes with higher priority always get bandwidth offered first. However, it also says that classes having bandwidth available on a lower tree-level are always preferred to those on a higher tree level, regardless of priority. Let's assume the following situation: Segment C is not sending any traffic. Segment A is only sending realtime traffic, as fast as it can (enough to saturate the link alone) and Segment B is only sending bulk traffic, as fast as it can (again, enough to saturate the full link alone). What will happen? Case 1: Segment A-High Prio and Segment B-Low Prio both have packets to send, since A-High Prio has the higher priority, it will always be scheduled first, till it hits its rate. Now it tries to borrow from Segment A, but since Segment A is on a higher level and Segment B-Low Prio has not yet hit its rate, this class is now served first, till it also hits the rate and wants to borrow from Segment B. Once both have hit their rates, both are on the same level again and now Segment A-High Prio is going to win again, until it hits the rate of Segment A. Now it tries to borrow from root (which has plenty of traffic spare, as Segment C is not using any of its guaranteed traffic), but again, it has to wait for Segment B-Low Prio to also reach the root level. Once that happens, priority is taken into account again and this time Segment A-High Prio will get all the bandwidth left over from Segment C. Case 2: High Prio-Segment A and Low Prio-Segment B both have packets to send, again High Prio-Segment A is going to win as it has the higher priority. Once it hits its rate, it tries to borrow from High Prio, which has bandwidth spare, but being on a higher level, it has to wait for Low Prio-Segment B again to also hit its rate. Once both have hit their rate and both have to borrow, High Prio-Segment A will win again until it hits the rate of the High Prio class. Once that happens, it tries to borrow from root, which has again plenty of bandwidth left (all bandwidth of Normal Prio is unused at the moment), but it has to wait again until Low Prio-Segment B hits the rate limit of the Low Prio class and also tries to borrow from root. Finally both classes try to borrow from root, priority is taken into account, and High Prio-Segment A gets all bandwidth root has left over. Both cases seem sub-optimal, as either way realtime traffic sometimes has to wait for bulk traffic, even though there is plenty of bandwidth left it could borrow. However, in case 2 it seems like the realtime traffic has to wait less than in case 1, since it only has to wait till the bulk traffic rate is hit, which is most likely less than the rate of a whole segment (and in case 1 that is the rate it has to wait for). Or am I totally wrong here? I thought about even simpler setups, using a priority qdisc. But priority queues have the big problem that they cause starvation if they are not somehow limited. Starvation is not acceptable. Of course one can put a TBF (Token Bucket Filter) into each priority class to limit the rate and thus avoid starvation, but when doing so, a single priority class cannot saturate the link on its own any longer, even if all other priority classes are empty, the TBF will prevent that from happening. And this is also sub-optimal, since why wouldn't a class get 100% of the line's bandwidth if no other class needs any of it at the moment? Any comments or ideas regarding this setup? It seems so hard to do using standard tc qdiscs. As a programmer it was such an easy task if I could simply write my own scheduler (which I'm not allowed to do).

  • Grails Unit Tests: Why does this statement fail?

    - by leeand00
I've developed in Java in the past, and now I'm trying to learn Grails/Groovy using this slightly dated tutorial. import grails.test.* class DateTagLibTests extends TagLibUnitTestCase { def dateTagLib protected void setUp() { super.setUp() dateTagLib = new DateTagLib() } protected void tearDown() { super.tearDown() } void testThisYear() { String expected = Calendar.getInstance().get(Calendar.YEAR) // NOTE: This statement fails assertEquals("the years dont match and I dont know why.", expected, dateTagLib.thisYear()) } } DateTagLibTests.groovy (Note: this TagLibUnitTestCase is for Grails 1.2.1 and not the version used in the tutorial) For some reason the above test fails with: expected:<2010 but was:<2010 I've tried replacing the test above with the following alternate version of the test, and the test passes just fine: void testThisYear() { String expected = Calendar.getInstance().get(Calendar.YEAR) String actual = dateTagLib.thisYear() // NOTE: The following two assertions work: assertEquals("the years don\'t match", expected, actual) assertTrue("the years don\'t match", expected.equals(actual)) } These two versions of the test are basically the same thing right? Unless there's something new in Grails 1.2.1 or Groovy that I'm not understanding. They should be of the same type because the values are both the value returned by Calendar.getInstance().get(Calendar.YEAR)

  • ASP User Control Issue

    - by Steven
I am attempting to construct my own date picker using code from several sources. Why won't the calendar hide when visible? myDate.ascx <%@ Control Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="myDate.ascx.vb" Inherits="Website.myDate" %> <asp:TextBox ID="dateText" runat="server" > </asp:TextBox> <asp:Button ID="dateBtn" runat="server" UseSubmitBehavior="false" Text="x" /> <asp:Calendar ID="dateCal" runat="server" ></asp:Calendar> myDate.ascx.vb Partial Public Class myDate Inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl Protected Sub dateCal_SelectionChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles dateCal.SelectionChanged dateText.Text = dateCal.SelectedDate ' Update text box' dateCal.Visible = False ' Hide calendar' End Sub Protected Sub dateCal_VisibleMonthChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.MonthChangedEventArgs) Handles dateCal.VisibleMonthChanged dateCal.Visible = True ' For some reason, changing the month hides the calendar (so show it)' End Sub Private Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load dateCal.Visible = False ' Hide calendar on load' End Sub Protected Sub dateBtn_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles dateBtn.Click dateCal.Visible = Not dateCal.Visible ' On button press, toggle visibility' End Sub End Class

  • Red Hat cluster: Failure of one of two services sharing the same virtual IP tears down IP

    - by js.
I'm creating a 2+1 failover cluster under Red Hat 5.5 with 4 services of which 2 have to run on the same node, sharing the same virtual IP address. One of the services on each node needs a (SAN) disk, the other doesn't. I'm using HA-LVM. When I shut down (via ifdown) the two interfaces connected to the SAN to simulate SAN failure, the service needing the disk is disabled, the other keeps running, as expected. Surprisingly (and unfortunately), the virtual IP address shared by the two services on the same machine is also removed, rendering the still-running service useless. How can I configure the cluster to keep the IP address up?
