  • triggering an event with jQuery live or delegate

    - by patrick
I'd like to attach a handler to an element using either jQuery live() or delegate(). Looking at the docs I see I can attach the handler for a custom event. Is this possible for either of these jQuery functions to also trigger the handler? Basically I want to attach the handler function and run call it once. Thank you for any help.

  • A standard event messaging system with AJAX?

    - by Gutzofter
Is there any standards or messaging framework for AJAX? Right now I have a single page that loads content using Ajax. Because I had a complex form for data entry as part of my content, I need to validate certain events that can occur in my form. So after some adjustments driven by my tests: asyncShould("search customer list click", 3, function() { stop(1000); $('#content').show(); var forCustomerList = newCustomerListRequest(); var forShipAndCharge = newShipAndChargeRequest(forCustomerList); forCustomerList.page = '../../vt/' + forCustomerList.page; forShipAndCharge.page = 'helpers/helper.php'; forShipAndCharge.data = { 'action': 'shipAndCharge', 'DB': '11001' }; var originalComplete = forShipAndCharge.complete; forShipAndCharge.complete = function(xhr, status) { originalComplete(xhr, status); ok($('#customer_edit').is(":visible"), 'Shows customer editor'); $('#search').click(); ok($('#customer_list').is(":visible"), 'Shows customer list'); ok($('#customer_edit').is(":hidden"), 'Does not show customer editor'); start(); }; testController.getContent(forShipAndCharge); }); Here is the controller for getting content: getContent: function (request) { $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: request.page, dataType: 'json', data: request.data, async: request.async, success: request.success, complete: request.complete }); }, And here is the request event: function newShipAndChargeRequest(serverRequest) { var that = { serverRequest: serverRequest, page: 'nodes/orders/sc.php', data: 'customer_id=-1', complete: errorHandler, success: function(msg) { shipAndChargeHandler(msg); initWhenCustomer(that.serverRequest); }, async: true }; return that; } And here is a success handler: function shipAndChargeHandler(msg) { $('.contentContainer').html(msg.html); if (msg.status == 'flash') { flash(msg.flash); } } And on my server side I end up with a JSON structure that looks like this: $message['status'] = 'success'; $message['data'] = array(); $message['flash'] = ''; $message['html'] = ''; echo json_encode($message); So now loading content consists of two parts: HTML, this is the presentation of the form. DATA, this is any data that needs be loaded for the form FLASH, any validation or server errors STATUS tells client what happened on server. My question is: Is this a valid way to handle event messaging on the client-side or am I going down a path of heartache and pain?

  • jQuery click off element event

    - by Nic Hubbard
I have a floating div that gets displayed, and I want it to be hidden when the user clicks off the div. This would be similar to the .hover() funtion callback when hovering off an element. Only I want to do this for click. I tried just setting a click event for the body, which would hide the div, but that gave unexpected results. Anyone have ideas on how I could easily do this?

  • asp.net Web server control with child controls, event not firing

    - by bleeeah
    I have a simple web control (TaskList) that can have children (Task) which inherit from LinkButton, that can be added declaratively or programatically. This works ok, but I can't get the onclick event of a Task to be fired in my code behind. The code .. [ToolboxData("<{0}:TaskList runat=\"server\"> </{0}:TaskList>")] [ParseChildren(true)] [PersistChildren(false)] public class TaskList : System.Web.UI.Control { //[DefaultProperty("Text")] public TaskList() {} private List<Task> _taskList = new List<Task>(); private string _taskHeading = ""; public string Heading { get { return this._taskHeading; } set { this._taskHeading = value; } } [NotifyParentProperty(true)] [PersistenceMode(PersistenceMode.InnerProperty)] [DesignerSerializationVisibility(DesignerSerializationVisibility.Content)] public List<Task> Tasks { get { return this._taskList; } set { this._taskList = value; } } protected override void CreateChildControls() { foreach (Task task in this._taskList) this.Controls.Add(task); base.CreateChildControls(); } protected override void Render(HtmlTextWriter writer) { writer.Write("<h2>" + this._taskHeading + "</h2>"); writer.Write("<div class='tasks_container'>"); writer.Write("<div class='tasks_list'>"); writer.Write("<ul>"); foreach (Task task in this._taskList) { writer.Write("<li>"); task.RenderControl(writer); writer.Write("</li>"); } writer.Write("</ul>"); writer.Write("</div>"); writer.Write("</div>"); } } public class Task : LinkButton { private string _key = ""; public string Key { get { return this._key; } set { this._key = value; } } } Markup: <rf:TaskList runat="server" ID="tskList" Heading="Tasks"> <Tasks> <rf:Task Key="ba" ID="L1" Text="Helllo" OnClick="task1_Click" runat="server" /> </Tasks> </rf:TaskList> The Onclick event task1_Click never fires when clicked (although a postback occurs).

  • How do I use jQuery for click event in iPhone web application

    - by Gazzer
When I use jQuery for a simple click event it only works for links. Is there a way to make it work for spans etc: $("span.clicked").live("click", function(e){alert("span clicked!")}); $("a.clicked").live("click", function(e){alert("link clicked!")}); Example is here: http://ip1n.j-www.com/test/index2.html The SPAN works in Safari but not Mobile Safari (on iPhone or iPad) whereas the A tag works in both.

  • How to Detect an Event Coming from the Firefox History Dropdown Box

    - by banterCZ
How to detect an event coming from the Firefox history dropdown box? I need to distinguish between the enter key simply pressed on input field or on item from his native history dropdown box. The reason is that I would like to call custom submit button (not first one, which is default) on the enter key pressed on any input field. But right now, the enter key pressed on history dropdown box unfortunately call submit as well.

  • Build server polling vs. event-driven builds

    - by Daniel T.
Why do build servers poll for changes instead of SVN firing off an event (or a post-commit step) that tells the build server to start a build? It seems terribly inefficient to poll for changes, especially when the number of projects increases and the polling period is set to a very low value (for example, 30 seconds).

  • jquery event listening, non-standard events

    - by Stacey
I'm attempting to build a way for my selectors to 'listen' to 'global' events that are beyond the typical 'click' 'change' 'submit' etc. I've explored the various 'eventmanagers' that I could find, and they're all still designed for forms. Is there any way to do something like this for non-standard (i.e. custom) events? The goal is to have selectors subscribe to an event, and then be able to trigger it in one place and it will raise it for everything subscribed to it.

  • Do not fire 'zoom_changed' event when calling fitBounds function on map

    - by Encore PTL
Is there a way to prevent the zoom_change event from being triggered if it occurs due to fitBounds() ? I am having an issue where I need to do a search on the server from client when there is a zoom change to map but every time I call fitBounds() it causes zoom_change to trigger which causes the client to do another search on the server. I am only interested in zoom_change done by users and not programmatically using fitBounds.
