  • SpringMvc java.lang.NullPointerException When Posting Form To Server

    I have a form with a user name field on it when i tab out of the field i use a RESTFUL Web Service that makes a call to a handler method in the controller. The method makes a call to a DAO class that checks the database if the user name exists. This works fine, however when the form is posted to the server i call the same exact function i would call in the handler method however i get a java.lang.NullPointerException when it accesses the class that makes a call to the DAO object. So it does not even access the DAO object the second time. I have exception handlers around the calls in all my classes that makes calls. Any ideas as to whats happening here why i would get the java.lang.NullPointerException the second time the function is called.Does this have anything to do with Spring instantiating DAO classes using a Singleton method or something to that effect? What can be done to resolve this?   • Hibernate entities stored as HttpSession attribute values

    I'm dealing with a legacy Java application with a large, fairly messy codebase. There's a fairly standard 'User' object that gets stored in the HttpSession between requests, so the servlets do stuff like this at the top: HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); User user = (User)session.getAttribute("User"); The old user authentication layer (which I won't describe; suffice to say, it did not use a database) is being replaced with code mapped to the DB with Hibernate. So 'User' is now a Hibernate entity. My understanding of Hibernate object life cycles is a little fuzzy, but it seems like storing 'User' in the HttpSession now becomes a problem, because it will be retrieved in a different transaction during the next request. What is the right thing to be doing here? Can I just use the Hibernate Session object's update() method to reattach the User instance the next time around? Do I need to?

  • Reading PDF form field data from Flex 4 ( via php or coldfusion )

    Been searching web for an answer for this for a MONTH. I am not an expert in Coldfusion. So supposedly this is easy in CF -- but the mark-up confuses the HECK out of me. So here I am. I have managed to import and read a PDF using the CF Proxy for Actionscript: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/754629?tstart=0 --- BUT --- After all my trouble there, the precious form filed information that I was looking for was not there in the PDF info object. GRRRR. So I am back to looking for a way to do this with CFC's or CFM's or PHP. All I want is this: Read the PDF from a Flex app. GET the form field information. WRITE a new PDF with the form field values. I have found so many close but no cigar options ... and I have tried so many that failed. There are so many free PDF this and that out there. But Adobe seems to reserve the real functionality for themselves. All the free options don't seem to have access to the form data? Anyways I am so exhausted with looking for ways to do this. I need help!

I need to get the comment that the user submitted to be displayed in the respective div that it was submitted from. I can either set this as a hidden field in the form, or as text in the ajax-process.php file. I can't work out how to get the response from ajax-process.php into something I can work with in the script, if I run the following it appends to all the forms (obviously). The only way I can think to do it is to repeat the script using individual DIV ID's instead of a single class.     This is a strange question, I've never tried to do this before. I have a repetitive process requiring that I copy and paste data from text boxes in one program into another program for further processing. I'd like to automate this process using VB .NET. The application from which the data is gathered isn't mine, so I don't have ActiveX-like access to its controls. How would you write an application to gain access to a form from another application, to be able to find the controls on the form, and gather the values from them? Just experimenting, I've used the following code. This resulted in only the name of the form to which this code belongs. It didn't find the names of any other forms I have open, and I have a lot open to choose from. This is frustrating because it's only step one of what I'll need to do to make my life easier...   • Persisting object changes from child form to parent form based on button press.

    I have created a form that is used for both adding and editing a custom object. Which mode the form takes is provided by an enum value passed from the calling code. I also pass in an object of the custom type. All of my controls at data bound to the specific properties of the custom object. When the form is in Add mode, this works great as when the controls are updated with data, the underlying object is as well. However, in Edit mode, I keep two variables of the custom object supplied by the calling code, the original, and a temporary one made through deep copying. The controls are then bound to the temporary copy, this makes it easy to discard the changes if the user clicks the Cancel button. What I want to know is how to persist those changes back to the original object if the user clicks the OK button, since there is now a disconnect because of the deep copying. I am trying to avoid implementing a internal property on the Add/Edit form if I can.   • Intercept creation of activities when the application is restored

    Most of our activities access a user-specific model. All these activities inherit from a ModelActivity base class, which provides a getModel() call. When one of these activities detect that the user has signed out (through the AccountManager callback), it sticks to its existing model, but prepares to exit back to the root activity (which is not user-specific) by starting its intent with FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP. If however the user deletes an account while the app is not running, we run into trouble when the activity is restored. Now the activity needs to handle there not being a model, which makes the code more complicated and bug-prone. Ideally we would intercept the application restore process before the activity is created. Then we would check whether we have an account and a model, and if not clear up the saved stack of activities, and restart from our root activity instead of the last saved activity. But as far as I can tell the first place where we can run code is in the onCreate callback of the activity. Is there a way to run some code when the application is restored from background-saving, but before the saved activity is created?

    I have an app that so far consists of two Activities: The Main Menu Activity. The Game Activity The Main Menu Activity contains a button that starts the Game Activity with the following code: public void onClick(View clickedButton) { switch(clickedButton.getId()) { case R.id.buttonPlay: Intent i = new Intent("apple.banana.BouncingBallActivity"); startActivity(i); break; } When the user is done with the Game Activity, he presses the back button. This calls the onPause() method first, which pauses the animation thread of the game. It then calls the onStop() which calls finish() on the activity altogether. The user is returned to the Main Menu activity.     I'm writing an android app that has a standard activity, but also needs to monitor incoming/outgoing calls and texts at all times. In addition, the app needs to notify users of information once a day without having the activity open. The information it notifies users of is stored in a database, so communication with the activity is not necessary. I've been researching for a week and still can't decide how to go about doing this. My instinct tells me I need a remote service that has a constantly running broadcast receiver, but every remote service example I see is overly complicated. Could anyone help me better understand what steps I need to take? Thanks in advance.

    I'm making a form that has the following validation rules: no fields are "required", but if you enter an email, it must be valid, and if you enter a password, it must be at least 6 characters and match the confirm password field value. The form works flawlessly with no validation so I know it's not a PHP or HTML problem.   • "Add another item" form functionality

    I have a form that lets a user enter their career history - it's a very simple form with only 3 fields - type (dropdown), details (textfield) and year (dropdown). Basically I want to include some dynamic functionality whereby the user can enter multiple items on the same page and then submit them all in one go. I had a search on Google and found some examples but they were all based on tables - my markup is based on DIV tags: <div class="form-fields"> <div class="row"> <label for="type">Type</label> <select id="type" name="type"> <option value="Work">Work</option> </select> </div> <div class="row"> <label for="details">Details</label> <input id="details" type="text" name="details" /> </div> <div class="row"> <label for="year">Year</label> <select id="year" name="year"> <option value="2010">2010</option> </select> </div> </div> So basically the 3 DIV tags with class "row" need to be duplicated, or to simplify things - the div "form-fields" could just be duplicated. I am also aware that the input names would have to converted to array format. Additionally each item will require a "remove" button. There will be a main submit button at the bottom which submits all the data. Anyone got an elegant solution for this?

    I've got an old powerbook g4. Battery is totally dead, as is the superdrive. I've looked into selling but it's worth less than it would cost to ship it safely. So I'm considering cracking it open and and taking it's parts and creating some kind of small form factor desktop, probably for the living room. I don't need an optical drive, I really just would like Mac OSX, without purchasing a Mac Mini. Anyone got any tips?

The input page is reloaded but no error message is seen. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.     I have been banging my head against the wall with this one for nearly a week now, and am no closer than I was the first day. I have a form that has 8 columns and a variable number of rows which I need to email to the client in a nicely formatted email. The form submits the needed fields as a multidimensional array. Rough example is below: <input name="order[0][topdiameter]" type="text" id="topdiameter0" value="1" size="5" /> <input name="order[0][bottomdiameter]" type="text" id="bottomdiameter0" value="1" size="5" /> <input name="order[0][slantheight]" type="text" id="slantheight0" value="1" size="5" /> <select name="order[0][fittertype]" id="fittertype0"> <option value="harp">Harp</option> <option value="euro">Euro</option> <option value="bulbclip">Regular</option> </select> <input name="order[0][washerdrop]" type="text" id="washerdrop0" value="1" size="5" /> <select name="order[0][fabrictype]" id="fabrictype"> <option value="linen">Linen</option> <option value="pleated">Pleated</option> </select> <select name="order[0][colours]" id="colours0"> <option value="beige">Beige</option> <option value="white">White</option> <option value="eggshell">Eggshell</option> <option value="parchment">Parchment</option> </select> <input name="order[0][quantity]" type="text" id="quantity0" value="1" size="5" /> This form is formatted in a table, and rows can be added to it dynamically. What I've been unable to do is get a properly formatted table out of the array. This is what I'm using now (grabbed from the net). <?php if (isset($_POST["submit"])) { $arr= $_POST['order'] echo '<table>'; foreach($arr as $arrs) { echo '<tr>'; foreach($arrs as $item) { echo "<td>$item</td>"; } echo '</tr>'; } echo '</table>; }; ?> This works perfectly for a single row of data. If I try submitting 2 or more rows from the form then one of the columns disappears. I'd like the table to be formatted as: | top | Bottom | Slant | Fitter | Washer | Fabric | Colours | Quantity | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |value| value | value | value | value | value | value | value | with additional rows as needed. But, I can't find any examples that will generate that type of table! It seems like this should be something fairly straightforward, but I just can't locate an example that works the way I need it too.
