  • Custom animation problem in Powerpoint 2003

    - by Tom Gullen
I have an animation of a grid that scrolls to the left. It's a Gantt chart, and it works fine. I then have several elements I want to drop on the grid, I give them all the same movement animation and this works fine, everything scrolls at the same speed and time. However I want to add entrance animations for the elements on the grid, I can have it so that when all the entrance animations are complete then it starts scrolling, but I want it to enter whilst it is scrolling. How do you have an entrance animation for an element and keep it's position updated? The entrance animation and movement animation don't seem to work together as expected when run simultaneously. cheers!

  • DTGridView losting content while scrolling

    - by Wim Haanstra
I am using DTGridView from the DTKit by Daniel Tull. I implemented it in a very simple ViewController and the test I am doing is to place a button in the last row of the grid, which should add another row to the grid (and therefor moving the button to a row beneath it). The problem is, when I click the button a couple of times and then start scrolling, the grid seems to lose its content. As I am not completly sure this is a bug in the grid, but more in my code, I hope you guys can help me out and track down the bug. First I have my header file, which is quite simple, because this is a test: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "DTGridView.h" @interface TestController : UIViewController <DTGridViewDelegate, DTGridViewDataSource> { DTGridView* thumbGrid; } @end I declare a DTGridView, which will be my grid, where I want to put content in. Now, my code file: #import "TestController.h" @implementation TestController int rows = 1; - (NSInteger)numberOfRowsInGridView:(DTGridView *)gridView { return rows; } - (NSInteger)numberOfColumnsInGridView:(DTGridView *)gridView forRowWithIndex:(NSInteger)index { if (index == rows - 1) return 1; else return 3; } - (CGFloat)gridView:(DTGridView *)gridView heightForRow:(NSInteger)rowIndex { return 57.0f; } - (CGFloat)gridView:(DTGridView *)gridView widthForCellAtRow:(NSInteger)rowIndex column:(NSInteger)columnIndex { if (rowIndex == rows - 1) return 320.0f; else return 106.6f; } - (DTGridViewCell *)gridView:(DTGridView *)gridView viewForRow:(NSInteger)rowIndex column:(NSInteger)columnIndex { DTGridViewCell *view = [[gridView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:@"thumbcell"] retain]; if (!view) view = [[DTGridViewCell alloc] initWithReuseIdentifier:@"thumbcell"]; if (rowIndex == rows - 1) { UIButton* btnLoadMoreItem = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10, 0, 301, 57)]; [btnLoadMoreItem setTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Button %d", rowIndex] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [btnLoadMoreItem.titleLabel setFont:[UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:20]]; [btnLoadMoreItem setBackgroundImage:[[UIImage imageNamed:@"big-green-button.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:10.0 topCapHeight:0.0] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [btnLoadMoreItem addTarget:self action:@selector(selectLoadMoreItems:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [view addSubview:btnLoadMoreItem]; [btnLoadMoreItem release]; } else { UILabel* label = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10,0,100,57)]; label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d x %d", rowIndex, columnIndex]; [view addSubview:label]; [label release]; } return [view autorelease]; } - (void) selectLoadMoreItems:(id) sender { rows++; [thumbGrid setNeedsDisplay]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; thumbGrid = [[DTGridView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0, 320, 320)]; thumbGrid.dataSource = self; thumbGrid.gridDelegate = self; [self.view addSubview:thumbGrid]; } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end I implement all the methods for the DataSource, which seem to work. The grid is filled with as many rows as my int 'rows' ( +1 ) has. The last row does NOT contain 3 columns, but just one. That cell contains a button which (when pressed) adds 1 to the 'rows' integer. The problem starts, when it starts reusing cells (I am guessing) and content start disappearing. When I scroll back up, the UILabels I am putting in the cells are gone. Is there some bug, code error, mistake, dumb-ass-move I am missing here? Hope anyone can help.

  • Formatting Telerik Chart and Legend Labels in Silverlight

    - by Bryan
I am trying to format a column called 'Month' using the 3-character month abbreviation in my data grid which is bound to a bar chart. My grid and chart are based on this demo example: http://demos.telerik.com/silverlight/#Chart/Aggregates. Basically, the grid compiles data and summarizes by Year, Quarter, Month, and then some other categories as well. For the Month column, I tried two different methods (for sorting purposes, I have to use an integer or some date value for the month). First, I just made Month an integer field and then used a converter mapped in the xaml for the 'Month' field to display 'JAN', 'FEB', etc. This worked fine for the grid, but the chart would display 1, 2, etc. instead of the month abbreviation. I researched this and was not able to come up with a solution to map the converter to the chart. So, I tried making the Month field a datetime and then set the value to 1/1/1900, 2/1/1900, etc. and specified the format of the field to 'MMM' in the xaml for the grid. I then used the following statement to set the the format in the chart when the user grouped by month: SalesAnalysisChart.DefaultView.ChartArea.AxisX.DefaultLabelFormat = "MMM"; This partially worked in that when the months were displayed across the x-axis they were labeled properly, but not when they appeared in the legend (the user, of course, can group by any of the columns which may or may not include month). I've tried setting LegendItemLabelFormat, ItemLabelFormat, etc. but without success. I'm not sure of the element on which to set the property. I only need to change the default format for just the Month column - all other columns should display normally when grouped. I also came across a class called 'LegendItemFormatConverter' which looks promising but I can't find any examples as to how to implement it. I would actually prefer the converter method because the converter I wrote displays the month abbreviation in all caps, whereas the 'MMM' format displays in upper/lower case. Here is the converter code that I originally used for the grid: using System; using System.Net; using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; using System.Windows.Documents; using System.Windows.Ink; using System.Windows.Input; using System.Windows.Media; using System.Windows.Media.Animation; using System.Windows.Shapes; using System.Windows.Data; namespace ApolloSL { public class MonthConverter : IValueConverter { public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { if (value != null) { DateTime date = new DateTime(1900, (Int32)value, 1); return date.ToString("MMM").ToUpper(); } else { return ""; } } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { return value.ToString(); } } } Please help... Thanks in advance for your assistance, Bryan

  • iPhone NSCalendar - Incorrect Calendar Drawn for users outside US

    - by xoail
    After trying to work on someone else's code, and so many different iterations, I am unable to understand what am I doing wrong with dates on a calendar month view. I am trying to present a calendar in month view fashion like calendar.app but unfortunately some users in countries like Australia, UK are reporting incorrect alignment of Days to Dates. For instance in Australia it displays 17th March as Friday. Any help is highly appreciated! Here is the code sample I am using: -(void)setCalendar { NSCalendar *gregorian = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier:NSGregorianCalendar]; NSDateComponents *comps = [gregorian components:units fromDate:[NSDate date]]; self.currentDate = [gregorian dateFromComponents:comps]; NSInteger weekdayInteger=[comps weekday]; currentMonth=[comps month]; currentYear=[comps year]; NSString *dateString=[[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@",currentDate] substringToIndex:10]; NSArray *array= [dateString componentsSeparatedByString:@"-"]; NSInteger currentDay=[[array objectAtIndex:2] intValue]; currentMonthConstant=currentMonth; currentYearConstant=currentYear; currentDayConstant=currentDay; currentConstantDate=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d/%d/%d",currentDayConstant,currentMonthConstant,currentYearConstant]; currentFirstDay=((8+weekdayInteger-(currentDay%7))%7); if(currentFirstDay==0) currentFirstDay=7; [gregorian release]; } And this is how im populating the calendar: -(void)fillCalender:(NSInteger)month weekStarts:(NSInteger)weekday year:(NSInteger)year { currentMonth=month; currentYear=year; currentFirstDay=weekday; UIButton *temp; NSInteger numberOfDays=[self getNumberofDays:month YearVlue:year]; currentLastDay=(currentFirstDay+numberOfDays-1)%7; if(currentLastDay==0) currentLastDay=7; NSString *monthName=[self getMonth:month]; NSInteger grid=(weekday-1); monthLabel.text=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@ %d",monthName,year]; for(int i=1;i<=numberOfDays;i++) { if([frontView isEqualToString:@"view1"]) temp=[arr_View2Buttons objectAtIndex:grid]; else temp= [arr_View1Buttons objectAtIndex:grid]; [temp setBackgroundImage:nil forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [temp setUserInteractionEnabled:TRUE]; UILabel *aLbl = (UILabel *)[temp viewWithTag:123]; [aLbl setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d",i]]; // check for today if(currentDayConstant == i && currentMonthConstant == currentMonth && currentYearConstant == currentYear) { [aLbl setTextColor:[UIColor blueColor]]; } else { [aLbl setTextColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:69/255.0 green:2/255.0 blue:71/255.0 alpha:1.0]]; } [temp setTag:i]; grid++; if(grid==35) grid=0; } } And finally viewdidload: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [self setCalendar]; // set views [self.view1 setFrame:CGRectMake(0,45,320,232)]; [self.view2 setFrame:CGRectMake(0,277,320,232)]; [self.view addSubview:self.view1]; [self.view addSubview:self.view2]; frontView = @"view2"; [self fillCalender:currentMonth weekStarts:currentFirstDay year:currentYear]; frontView = @"view1"; }

  • SQL SERVER – Copy Column Headers from Resultset – SQL in Sixty Seconds #027 – Video

    - by pinaldave
SQL Server Management Studio returns results in Grid View, Text View and to the file. When we copy results from Grid View to Excel there is a common complaint that the column  header displayed in resultset is not copied to the Excel. I often spend time in performance tuning databases and I run many DMV’s in SSMS to get a quick view of the server. In my case it is almost certain that I need all the time column headers when I copy my data to excel or any other place. SQL Server Management Studio have two different ways to do this. Method 1: Ad-hoc When result is rendered you can right click on the resultset and click on Copy Header. This will copy the headers along with the resultset. Additionally, you can use the shortcut key CTRL+SHIFT+C for coping column headers along with the resultset. Method 2: Option Setting at SSMS level This is SSMS level settings and I kept this option always selected as I often need the column headers when I select the resultset. Go Tools >> Options >> Query Results >> SQL Server >> Results to Grid >> Check the Box “Include column header when copying or saving the results.” Both of the methods are discussed in following SQL in Sixty Seconds Video. • Final Release of Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2010 Released

    - by dwahlin
If you haven’t already heard the news, the final release of the Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2010 have been released! That’s great news for Silverlight developers and to top it off the crew up at Microsoft even snuck in a few new features including intellisense for styles (a big deal in my opinion) and the ability to easily manipulate Grid rows and columns.  One of the most time consuming (and boring) tasks experienced by developers is also covered with the new “Go To Value Definition” feature that allows you to jump directly to style definitions with ease.  That feature alone is worth the upgrade especially if you’re working with a large application that uses a lot of styles. Here’s a quick run-down of the features provided by the latest release from the Microsoft team: Support for targeting Silverlight 4 in the Silverlight designer and project system RIA Services application templates and libraries to simplify access to your data services (check out this Silverlight.tv video and whitepaper giving full details) Support for Silverlight 4 elevated trust and out-of-browser applications Enhanced support for other new Silverlight 4 features, including: Working with Implicit Styles Go To Value Definition - navigate directly from controls on your page to styles that are applied to them. Style Intellisense - easily modify styles you already have in XAML Working with Data Source Window outputs Data Source Selector - easily select and modify your data source information Grid Row and Column context menu - Add, remove, and re-sort DSW outputs and other Grid layouts Thickness Editor for editing Margins, Padding etc. Sample Data Support -  see your item templates and bindings light up at design time Working with Silverlight 4 Out-of-Browser applications Automatically launch and debug your OOB app from inside the IDE Specify XAP signing for trusted OOB apps Set the OOB window characteristics If you’d like to see some of the new features in action check out this Channel 9 video with Mark Wilson-Thomas and John Papa.

  • Platformer Enemy AI

    - by hayer
I'm currently developing a platformer shooter. The game is multiplayer and while my net code could use some real work I have put that off for the time, so currently I'm trying to implement the AI. The game is pretty simple; Players run around on a map filled with a X amount of zombies that try to eat their brains, classic and overused I know. Weapons spawn at random intervals around the map. The problem is that the zombies, when they find their pray the have to follow it for some while.. And here is the problem, running the AI navcode seems to take for ever. So here is the ideas I have come up with so far Have the AI update at different intervals with a maximum of Y ms with no updates. Have the zombies assigned to groups of zombies. One is appointed the leader of the group who finds the way to the player - the rest just follows the leader. If the leader dies another one of the zombies in the group is appointed president of the zombie swarm. If there is less than five zombies in a group they try to meet up with other zombies.(Aka they are assigned to a different group and therefor a new leader) Multi-threading option one or two? For navigation I have some kinda navmesh(since the game is not tile-based) that tells the zombies where they can walk etc. If anyone else got some ideas on how to do navigation I would love some input. For LoS(zombie - player) I have split the map into grids. If the players grid is connected to the zombies grid(if I go with option two I would only need to check if leader zombies grid is connected to player, aka less checks) - if they are connected and there is more than 250ms since last check do a raytrace.. This is my first time programming AI so input on any field is appreciated.

  • Performance issues with visibility detection and object transparency

    - by maul
I'm working on a 3d game that has a view similar to classic isometric games (diablo, etc.). One of the things I'm trying to implement is the effect of turning walls transparent when the player walks behind them. By itself this is not a huge issue, but I'm having trouble determining which walls should be transparent exactly. I can't use a circle or square mask. There are a lot of cases where the wall piece at the same (relative) position has different visibility depending on the surrounding area. With the help of a friend I came up with this algorithm: Create a grid around the player that contains a lot of "visibility points" (my game is semi tile-based so I create one point for every tile on the grid) - the size of the square's side is close to the radius where I make objects transparent. I found 6x6 to be a good value, so that's 36 visibility points total. For every visibility point on the grid, check if that point is in the player's line of sight. For every visibility point that is in the LOS, cast a ray from the camera to that point and mark all objects the ray hits as transparent. This algorithm works - not perfectly, but only requires some tuning - however this is very slow. As you can see, it requries 36 ray casts minimum, but most of the time 60-70 depending on the position. That's simply too much for the CPU. Is there a better way to do this? I'm using Unity 3D but I'm not looking for an engine-specific solution.

  • Question about mipmaps + anisotropic filtering

    I'm a bit confused here and maybe someone can explain this to me. I created a simple test texture for my terrain which is nothing more than a solid green color with a black grid overlayed on top of it. If I look at the terrain in the distance with mipmapping on and linear filtering, the grid lines become blurry fairly quickly and further back the grid is pretty much invisible. With these settings, I don't get any moire patterns at all. If I turn on anisotropic filtering, however, the higher the anisotropic level, the more the terrain looks like it did with without mipmapping. The lines are much crisper nearby but in the distance I start to see terrible moire patterns. My understanding was that mipmapping is supposed to get rid of moire patterns. I've always had anisotropic filtering on in every game I play and I've never noticed any moire patterns as a result, so I don't understand why it's happening in my game. I am using logarithmic depth however, could that be causing any problems? And if it is, how do I resolve it? I've created my sampler state like so (I'm using slimdx): ssa = SamplerState.FromDescription(Engine.Device, new SamplerDescription { AddressU = TextureAddressMode.Clamp, AddressV = TextureAddressMode.Clamp, AddressW = TextureAddressMode.Clamp, Filter = Filter.Anisotropic, MaximumAnisotropy = anisotropicLevel, MinimumLod = 0, MaximumLod = float.MaxValue });

  • Matrix Multiplication with C++ AMP

    - by Daniel Moth
As part of our API tour of C++ AMP, we looked recently at parallel_for_each. I ended that post by saying we would revisit parallel_for_each after introducing array and array_view. Now is the time, so this is part 2 of parallel_for_each, and also a post that brings together everything we've seen until now. The code for serial and accelerated Consider a naïve (or brute force) serial implementation of matrix multiplication  0: void MatrixMultiplySerial(std::vector<float>& vC, const std::vector<float>& vA, const std::vector<float>& vB, int M, int N, int W) 1: { 2: for (int row = 0; row < M; row++) 3: { 4: for (int col = 0; col < N; col++) 5: { 6: float sum = 0.0f; 7: for(int i = 0; i < W; i++) 8: sum += vA[row * W + i] * vB[i * N + col]; 9: vC[row * N + col] = sum; 10: } 11: } 12: } We notice that each loop iteration is independent from each other and so can be parallelized. If in addition we have really large amounts of data, then this is a good candidate to offload to an accelerator. First, I'll just show you an example of what that code may look like with C++ AMP, and then we'll analyze it. It is assumed that you included at the top of your file #include <amp.h> 13: void MatrixMultiplySimple(std::vector<float>& vC, const std::vector<float>& vA, const std::vector<float>& vB, int M, int N, int W) 14: { 15: concurrency::array_view<const float,2> a(M, W, vA); 16: concurrency::array_view<const float,2> b(W, N, vB); 17: concurrency::array_view<concurrency::writeonly<float>,2> c(M, N, vC); 18: concurrency::parallel_for_each(c.grid, 19: [=](concurrency::index<2> idx) restrict(direct3d) { 20: int row = idx[0]; int col = idx[1]; 21: float sum = 0.0f; 22: for(int i = 0; i < W; i++) 23: sum += a(row, i) * b(i, col); 24: c[idx] = sum; 25: }); 26: } First a visual comparison, just for fun: The beginning and end is the same, i.e. lines 0,1,12 are identical to lines 13,14,26. The double nested loop (lines 2,3,4,5 and 10,11) has been transformed into a parallel_for_each call (18,19,20 and 25). The core algorithm (lines 6,7,8,9) is essentially the same (lines 21,22,23,24). We have extra lines in the C++ AMP version (15,16,17). Now let's dig in deeper. Using array_view and extent When we decided to convert this function to run on an accelerator, we knew we couldn't use the std::vector objects in the restrict(direct3d) function. So we had a choice of copying the data to the the concurrency::array<T,N> object, or wrapping the vector container (and hence its data) with a concurrency::array_view<T,N> object from amp.h – here we used the latter (lines 15,16,17). Now we can access the same data through the array_view objects (a and b) instead of the vector objects (vA and vB), and the added benefit is that we can capture the array_view objects in the lambda (lines 19-25) that we pass to the parallel_for_each call (line 18) and the data will get copied on demand for us to the accelerator. Note that line 15 (and ditto for 16 and 17) could have been written as two lines instead of one: extent<2> e(M, W); array_view<const float, 2> a(e, vA); In other words, we could have explicitly created the extent object instead of letting the array_view create it for us under the covers through the constructor overload we chose. The benefit of the extent object in this instance is that we can express that the data is indeed two dimensional, i.e a matrix. When we were using a vector object we could not do that, and instead we had to track via additional unrelated variables the dimensions of the matrix (i.e. with the integers M and W) – aren't you loving C++ AMP already? Note that the const before the float when creating a and b, will result in the underling data only being copied to the accelerator and not be copied back – a nice optimization. A similar thing is happening on line 17 when creating array_view c, where we have indicated that we do not need to copy the data to the accelerator, only copy it back. The kernel dispatch On line 18 we make the call to the C++ AMP entry point (parallel_for_each) to invoke our parallel loop or, as some may say, dispatch our kernel. The first argument we need to pass describes how many threads we want for this computation. For this algorithm we decided that we want exactly the same number of threads as the number of elements in the output matrix, i.e. in array_view c which will eventually update the vector vC. So each thread will compute exactly one result. Since the elements in c are organized in a 2-dimensional manner we can organize our threads in a two-dimensional manner too. We don't have to think too much about how to create the first argument (a grid) since the array_view object helpfully exposes that as a property. Note that instead of c.grid we could have written grid<2>(c.extent) or grid<2>(extent<2>(M, N)) – the result is the same in that we have specified M*N threads to execute our lambda. The second argument is a restrict(direct3d) lambda that accepts an index object. Since we elected to use a two-dimensional extent as the first argument of parallel_for_each, the index will also be two-dimensional and as covered in the previous posts it represents the thread ID, which in our case maps perfectly to the index of each element in the resulting array_view. The kernel itself The lambda body (lines 20-24), or as some may say, the kernel, is the code that will actually execute on the accelerator. It will be called by M*N threads and we can use those threads to index into the two input array_views (a,b) and write results into the output array_view ( c ). The four lines (21-24) are essentially identical to the four lines of the serial algorithm (6-9). The only difference is how we index into a,b,c versus how we index into vA,vB,vC. The code we wrote with C++ AMP is much nicer in its indexing, because the dimensionality is a first class concept, so you don't have to do funny arithmetic calculating the index of where the next row starts, which you have to do when working with vectors directly (since they store all the data in a flat manner). I skipped over describing line 20. Note that we didn't really need to read the two components of the index into temporary local variables. This mostly reflects my personal choice, in some algorithms to break down the index into local variables with names that make sense for the algorithm, i.e. in this case row and col. In other cases it may i,j,k or x,y,z, or M,N or whatever. Also note that we could have written line 24 as: c(idx[0], idx[1])=sum  or  c(row, col)=sum instead of the simpler c[idx]=sum Targeting a specific accelerator Imagine that we had more than one hardware accelerator on a system and we wanted to pick a specific one to execute this parallel loop on. So there would be some code like this anywhere before line 18: vector<accelerator> accs = MyFunctionThatChoosesSuitableAccelerators(); accelerator acc = accs[0]; …and then we would modify line 18 so we would be calling another overload of parallel_for_each that accepts an accelerator_view as the first argument, so it would become: concurrency::parallel_for_each(acc.default_view, c.grid, ...and the rest of your code remains the same… how simple is that? • Proper updating of GeoClipMaps

    - by thr
I have been working on an implementation of gpu-based geo clip maps, but there is a section of the GPU Gems 2 article that i just can't seem to understand, specifically this paragraph and more precisely the bolded part: The choice of grid size n = 2k-1 has the further advantage that the finer level is never exactly centered with respect to its parent next-coarser level. In other words, it is always offset by 1 grid unit either left or right, as well as either top or bottom (see Figure 2-4), depending on the position of the viewpoint. In fact, it is necessary to allow a finer level to shift while its next-coarser level stays fixed, and therefore the finer level must sometimes be off-center with respect to the next-coarser level. An alternative choice of grid size, such as n = 2k-3, would provide the possibility for exact centering Let's take an example image from the article: My "understanding" of the way the clip maps were update was that you floor the position of the viewpoint to an int, and such get the center vertex point if this is not the same as the previous center point, you update the entire map. Now, this obviously is not the case - but what I am failing to understand is this: If you look at the image above, if the viewpoint was to move one unit to the right, then the inner ring (the one just around the view point + white center square) would end up getting a 1 unit space on both the left and right side of itself. But there is nothing in the paper that deals with this, what i mean is that it would end up looking like this (excuse my crummy cut-and-paste editing of the above image): This is obviously not a valid state of the. So, would the solution be that a clip ring (layer) can only move in increments of the ring/layer it's contained within? Wouldn't this end up being very restrictive? I feel like I am missing some crucial understanding of parts of the algorithm, but I have been over both this paper and the original paper from 2004 and I just can't see what I am not getting.

  • Make a turn based system like final fantasy in AS3

    - by Kaoru
i wanted to make a turn based system like final fantasy tactics. I already created the map, which is 5x5 tiles grid and the characters which is each character places in the end of the tiles. I have 2 teams, which are named Red and Yellow. ------Red-------: First character is at 0,0. Second character is at 0,1. Third character is at0.2, fourth character is at0.3, and the last one is at0.4`. -----Yellow------: First character is at 5.0. Second character is at 5.1. Third character is at 5.2, fourth character is at 5.3, and the last one is at 5.4. I wanted Red team are moving first and make a decision (whether it is attack or wait), and after 5 characters of the Red team is already made a decision, the Yellow team is the one that make a decision (Yellow team is an AI) But, i don't know how to move my characters into the next grid (e.g: from 0,0 to 0,1) by clicking the left mouse button and also how do i display a grid (when select a move selection) that shows how many tiles that the character able to move. Anyone know about this? or how should i know more about this? is there any recommendations books or webs? And also, i don't know how to move the characters using mouse click.

  • Tipps & Tricks rund um CRSCTL

    - by Sebastian Solbach (DBA Community)

  • 2D Smooth Turning in a Tile-Based Game

    - by ApoorvaJ
I am working on a 2D top-view grid-based game. A ball that rolls on the grid made up of different tiles. The tiles interact with the ball in a variety of ways. I am having difficulty cleanly implementing the turning tile. The image below represents a single tile in the grid, which turns the ball by a right angle. If the ball rolls in from the bottom, it smoothly changes direction and rolls to the right. If it rolls in from the right, it is turned smoothly to the bottom. If the ball rolls in from top or left, its trajectory remains unchanged by the tile. The tile shouldn't change the magnitude of the velocity of the ball - only change its direction. The ball has Velocity and Position vectors, and the tile has Position and Dimension vectors. I have already implemented this, but the code is messy and buggy. What is an elegant way to achieve this, preferably by modification of the ball's Velocity vector by a formula?

  • Finding which tiles are intersected by a line, without looping through all of them or skipping any

    - by JustSuds
I've been staring at this problem for a few days now. I rigged up this graphic to help me visualise the issue: http://i.stack.imgur.com/HxyP9.png (from the graph, we know that the line intersects [1, 1], [1, 2], [2, 2], [2, 3], ending in [3,3]) I want to step along the line to each grid space and check to see if the material of the grid space is solid. I feel like I already know the math involved, but I haven't been able to string it together yet. I'm using this to test line of sight and eliminate nodes after a path is found via my pathfinding algorithms - my agents cant see through a solid block, therefore they cant move through one, therefore the node is not eliminated from the path because it is required to navigate a corner. So, I need an algorithm that will step along the line to each grid space that it intersects. Any ideas? I've taken a look at a lot of common algorithms, like Bresenham's, and one that steps at predefined intervals along the line (unfortunately, this method skips tiles if they're intersecting with a smaller wedge than the step size). I'm populating my whiteboard now with a mass of floor() and ceil() functions - but its getting overly complicated and I'm afraid it might cause a slowdown.

  • WpfToolkit DataGrid does not work in Windows Phone 7

    - by Igor Zevaka
I am trying to use WpfToolkit DataGrid in Windows Phone 7 project (Silverligt 4) and it's not working. Here is the XAML: <UserControl x:Class="SilverlightControls.Grid" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" xmlns:wtk="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Windows.Controls;assembly=WPFToolkit" d:DesignHeight="480" d:DesignWidth="480"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="#FF1F1F1F" Width="960"> <Grid x:Name="TitleGrid"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Title}" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextPageTitle2Style}"/> </Grid> <wtk:DataGrid> </wtk:DataGrid> </Grid> </UserControl> The project compiles fine but crashes at runtime trying to load this control. The best clue I got so far is from Visual Studio Designer. Once I add wtk:DataGrid to the control the visual designer does not load and below is the exception it displays. Could it be that WpfToolkit relies on PresentationFramework.dll and it's not available in SL4?
