    Hi, just a general question, do you ALWAYS have to handle error? i was just having this debate with one of my coworker where in his code I see a lot places where stuff are wrapped around a try statement and in the catch statement there is nothing. I always thought it is a bad practice to not handling error or hide them from the user (except log them in the log file). just want to know what other people thinks thanks.

  • Is there a simple LDAP-to-HTTP gateway out there?

    We have a local LDAP directory that provides basic contact information about our user community. We would like to integrate this into some third-party hosted services that allow us to implement widgets that run arbitrary Javascript. In order to connect Javascript to our LDAP directory, I would like to set up a simple LDAP-to-HTTP proxy that would accept HTTP GET requests, translate them into an appropriate LDAP query, and respond with directory information as JSON-encoded data. In an ideal world, something like this: GET /[email protected] Would get me something like this: { "cn": "Bob Person", "title": "System Administrator", "sn": "Person", "mail": "[email protected]", "telepehoneNumber": "617-555-1212", "givenName": "Bob" } (And this obviously assumes that the web application has locally configured information about what base DN to use, how to authenticate, etc). I guess I could write one...but surely something like this already exists? UPDATE The consensus seems to be that there isn't a pre-existing solution out there and that I should just get off my lazy derriere and write one. So I did, and it's here. It's not especially pretty, but it works for my prototyping and I figure maybe someone else will find it useful someday.

  • Simple Linux program that takes any HTTP/HTTPS request and returns a single page?

    I have a Linux box operating as router. There's a NIC that's connected to the internet (WAN), a NIC connected to an 8-port GbE switch (LAN), and a NIC connected to a Linksys wireless N-router (WLAN). Routing between everything is working perfectly. I have security completely disabled on the wireless router, but the WLAN NIC is firewalled such that it will only accept DNS queries and PPTP VPN connections. Currently HTTP/HTTPS traffic and everything else is blocked. I would like to run something that listens on port 80/443 of the WLAN NIC, and, for non VPN'ed connections, given any HTTP/HTTPS request it will return a single webpage saying "Unauthenticated" and explain how to sign into the VPN. A transparent proxy seems to be what I need, but my searches all seem to direct me to Squid, which is already running on my server and seems overkill for this simple task. Is there a simpler, lightweight program out there that does just this or should I just suck it up and run two instances of Squid (or figure out how to configure it)? Or, is this entire VPN thing I'm doing complete nonsense and I should just enable encryption on the wireless router?

  • Referer is passed from HTTPS to HTTP in some cases... How?

    In theory browsers do not pass on referer information from HTTPS to HTTP sites. And in my experience this has always been true. But I just found an exception, and I want to understand why it works so I can use it as well. Search for "what is my referer" on https://www.google.ca/ eg: https://www.google.ca/search?q=what+is+my+referer There are a few sites that will show referer. They all seem to "work" when they shouldn't. For example, click the www.whatismyreferer.com one. I get: Your referer: https://www.google.ca/ Note that sometimes, rarely, I get "no referer" as the result. Go back and click the link again and it'll "work" the next time. This should not happen. www.whatismyreferer.com is a non-HTTPS site. The referer header should not be being passed, but it is. What's going on here, and how can I do the same from my HTTPS site to the HTTP sites I'm linking to?

  • Mercurial client error 255 and HTTP error 404 when attempting to push large files to server

    Problem: When attempting to push a changeset that contains 6 large files (.exe, .dmg, etc) to my remote server my client (MacHG) is reporting the error: "Error During Push. Mercurial reported error number 255: abort: HTTP Error 404: Not Found" What does the error even mean?! The only thing unique (that I can tell) about this commit is the size, type, and filenames of the files. How can I determine which exact file within the changeset is failing? How can I delete the corrupt changeset from the repository? Someone reported using "mq" extensions, but it looks overly complicated for what I'm trying to achieve. Background: I can push and pull the following: source files, directories, .class files and a .jar file to and from the server, using both MacHG and toirtoise HG. I successfully committed to my local repository the addition for the first time the 6 large .exe, .dmg etc installer files (about 130Mb total). In the following commit to my local repository, I removed ("untracked" / forget) the 6 files causing the problem, however the previous (failing) changeset is still queued to be pushed to the server (i.e. my local host is trying to push the "add" and then the "remove" to the remote server - and keep aligned with the "keep everything in history" philosophy of the source control system). I can commit .txt .java files etc using TortoiseHG from Windows PCs. I haven't actually testing committing or pushing the same large files using TortoiseHG. Please help! Setup: Client applications = MacHG v0.9.7 (SCM 1.5.4), and TortoiseHG v1.0.4 (SCM 1.5.4) Server = HTTPS, IIS7.5, Mercurial 1.5.4, Python 2.6.5, setup using these instructions: http://www.jeremyskinner.co.uk/mercurial-on-iis7/ In IIS7.5 the CGI handler is configured to handle ALL verbs (not just GET, POST and HEAD).     I'm trying to install UML linux. Kernel is 2.6.28. I link to Linux files so that I have a read-only copy that I can revert back to. I then run the commands: make defconfig ARCH=um # works make ARCH=um # errors out at the very end: final close failed: Input/output error make: *** [vmlinux.o] Error 1 Because of this error, my binary vmlinux never gets created so I can't run my own UML Linux. Any ideas?

  • What does sub error code 568 mean for Ldap Error 49 with Active Directory

    I am writing some Java code that authenticates to Active Directory using SASL GSSAPI. Mostly this code is working fine but for one user I am getting the response: javax.naming.AuthenticationException: [LDAP: error code 49 - 8 0090304: LdapErr: DSID-0C0904D1, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 568, v1772 ] I know that 49 means this is an authentication failure, and that the relevant sub code is 568, but I am only aware of the following meanings for that data: 525 - user not found 52e - invalid credentials 530 - not permitted to logon at this time 532 - password expired 533 - account disabled 701 - account expired 773 - user must reset password So far I am unable to find an authorative source of these error codes from Microsoft (this list is pieced together from forum posts) and I can't find anything for that 568 error. Does anyone know what it means?

  • How can I make PHP display the error instead of giving me 500 Internal Server Error

    This has never happened before. Usually it displays the error, but now it just gives me a 500 internal server error. Of course before, when it displayed the error, it was different servers. Now I'm on a new server (I have full root, so if I need to configure it somewhere in the php.ini, I can.) Or perhaps its something with Apache? I've been putting up with it by just transferring the file to my other server and running it there to find the error, but that's become too tedious. Is there a way to fix this?

    I have a website that has a number of URLs that people use to connect to that site (uses the bindings on the IIS website and everything works as intended): http://www.sample.com http://sample.com https://www.sample.com http://xyz.sample.com http://oldurl.com Now what I want to do is have all of the URLs go to https://www.sample.com - so if you type in "http://xyz.sample.com" or "sample.com" you should go to https://www.sample.com The question is what is the best mechanism to do this? I have one possible solution (which I will put as an answer to this question), but I get the feeling that there might be another, better solution available.

  • TypeError: Error #1009 - (Null reference error) With Flash.

    I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error. "--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --" The structure of the project is like, it has the different sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between one another. All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists. Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code. I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it. I really got stuck at this point. Any help will be great.I had not seen the particular solution i am looking for anywhere yet, though Error #1009 is common. I uploaded the fla, here ( http://tinyurl.com/249e95p ), for reference.It may not be working , since the included/refered video files and all are not there, but reviwing the action code/movie clips will be possible. Please let me know if somebody will be able to trace the issue exactly.

  • Using HTTP status codes to reflect success/failure of Web service request?

    I'm implementing a Web service that returns a JSON-encoded payload. If the service call fails -- say, due to invalid parameters -- a JSON-encoded error is returned. I'm unsure, however, what HTTP status code should be returned in that situation. On one hand, it seems like HTTP status codes are for HTTP: even though an application error is being returned, the HTTP transfer itself was successful, suggesting a 200 OK response. On the other hand, a RESTful approach would seem to suggest that if the caller is attempting to post to a resource, and the JSON parameters of the request are invalid somehow, that a 400 Bad Request is appropriate. I'm using Prototype on the client side, which has a nice mechanism for automatically dispatching to different callbacks based on HTTP status code (onSuccess and onFailure), so I'm tempted to use status codes to indicate service success or failure, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has opinions or experience with common practice in this matter.     I am using just installed CI 2.1.3 Following phpacademy tutorial I wrote in the routes.php: $route['default_controller'] = "site"; (instead of: $route['default_controller'] = "welcome";) and in controllers/site.php: <?php if ( ! defined('BASEPATH')) exit('No direct script access allowed'); class Site extends CI_Controller { public function index() { echo "default function started.<br/>"; } public function hello(){ echo "hello function started.<br/>"; } } After uploading it to the server and going to the [www.mydomain.ext] it works ok (writes: "default function started.") BUT if I add 'this-hello();' to the index() function it throws a 500 error. Why does it happen and how can I resolve this? Thank you in advance.

    On Windows Vista SP2 - I'm attempting to upgrade to Windows 7. After I put in the Windows 7 DVD in the drive, I receive the Windows 7 upgrade splash screen (so the drive is working at this moment). But then when I click "Upgrade to Windows 7", I receive a error message stating: Error: The drive is not ready for use; its door may be open Any ideas what's causing this error? Since receiving the error, I have already replaced the DVD drive with a brand new one and still receive the same error. I've also checked Device Manager and no hardware is reporting problems (no cautions or failures).

The referenced method "humanize" isn't used for anything I'm doing at the moment, but belongs to the Model because it's used in several other places. Of course, removing the method is not really an option right now, and the model contains several other methods as well so I assume if I just move the humanize method around, it will generate an error on the next one.     I have a ruby-on-rails application that wishes to utilise the tumblr gem for adding posts when an action is taken (eg: creating a blog post) I currently have the tumblr gem installed and can manage to fetch my posts using @tumblruser = Tumblr::User.new('myemail','mypassword') However when i go to add a post where it asks me to pass the user information like so (according to the API for the gem) post = Tumblr::Post.create(@tumblruser, :type => 'video', :embed => @post.video_html, :title => @post.title, :caption => @post.content) it just does not want to authenticate and returns a 403 error anyone had any experience with this?
