  I have an issue and NO it is not homework, it's just a programmer who has been away from SQL for a long time having to solve a problem. I have the following table: create table students( studentid int identity(1,1), [name] varchar(200), [group] varchar(10), grade numeric(9,2) ) go The group is something arbitrary, assume it's the following "Group A", "Group B"... and so on. The grade is on a scale of 0 - 100. If there are 5 students in each group with grades randomly assigned, what is the best approach to getting the top 3 students (the top 80%) based on their grade? To be more concrete if I had the following: Ronald, Group A, 84.5 George H, Group A, 82.3 Bill, Group A, 92.0 George W, Group A, 45.5 Barack, Group A, 85.0 I'd get back Ronald, Bill, and Barack. I'd also need to do this over other groups.

• WindowsIdentity Token in Legacy ASP

  I've created a .Net library at work that is used by all of our developers. The security part of it uses Microsoft AzMan for the security backend. In order to create a security (AzMan) ClientContext I have to pass it a token value (as a uint). This is all fine an dandy until I needed to make a COM wrapper for our common library so some of our legacy pages could take advantage of it without being rewritten for now. I cannot figure out how to get the token value to pass to AzMan from legacy ASP. The COM wrapper is setup to run as a COM Server and runs as a specific user that we use here for all COM objects, therefor the common library can't just pull the identity using .Net. Any ideas?

  We would like to reserve a set of primary key identifiers for all tables (e.g. 1-1000) so that we can bootstrap the system with pre-loaded system data. All our JPA entity classes have the following definition for the primary key. @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = IDENTITY) @Column(name = "id", unique = true, nullable = false, insertable = false, updatable = false) private Integer id; is there a way to tell the database that increments should start happening from 1000 (i.e. customer specific data will start from 1000 onwards). We support (h2, mysql, postgres) in our environment and I would prefer a solution which can be driven via JPA and reverse engineering DDL tools from Hibernate. Let me know if this is the correct approach

• C# WCF client configuration for X509 secured web service over https

  Hi guys I been pulling my hair out for the past few days trying to connect to a web service using .Net 3.5 and WCF (have also tried using WSE 3.0) without much luck. The web service is hosted by a 3rd party and we can access via https. They also make use of X509 certificates for security, to sign the message. I've been given some basic info and am able to connect and test the service using SOAP UI 3.5 without any problems, so we know that this is not the issue. Just trying to get it done in code! I've added the X509 certificate into the certificate store using the mmc snap-in, and using tracing and logging i can see that the message is being signed, just unable to see which part i have got wrong. Any healp GREATLY appreciated :) I've been given an offline WSDL file, which I have imported in as a service reference is VS 2008. • Linq to SQL Error with Many-to-Many table

  I am getting the following error with linq-to-sql when I try to access a many-to-many collection: Members 'Int32 XXX' and 'Int32 YYY' both marked as IsPrimaryKey and IsDbGenerated. The statement is true, in that both of those columns are primary key integers with identity insert. The table I am trying to access has a foreign key to both YYY and ZZZ, and then ZZZ has a foreign key to XXX. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my data structure. I tried setting "Child Property" to false on the ZZZ-YYY relationship, but it didn't change anything.

• Eager loading vs. many queries with PHP, SQLite

  I have an application that has an n+1 query problem, but when I implemented a way to load the data eagerly, I found absolutely no performance gain. I do use an identity map, so objects are only created once. Here's a benchmark of ~3000 objects. first query + first object creation: 0.00636100769043 sec. memory usage: 190008 bytes iterate through all objects (queries + objects creation): 1.98003697395 sec. memory usage: 7717116 bytes And here's one when I use eager loading. query: 0.0881109237671 sec. memory usage: 6948004 bytes object creation: 1.91053009033 sec. memory usage: 12650368 bytes iterate through all objects: 1.96605396271 sec. memory usage: 12686836 bytes So my questions are Is SQLite just magically lightning fast when it comes to small queries? (I'm used to working with MySQL.) Does this just seem wrong to anyone? Shouldn't eager loading have given much better performance?

• How to propagate spring security login to EJBs?

  Context I have a J2EE application running on a JBoss 4.2.3 application server. The application is reachabe through a web interface. The authentication is done with basic authentication. Inside of the EJBs I ask the security context of the bean for the principal (the name of the logged in user) and do some authorization checks if this user is allowed to access this method of the EJB. The EJBs life inside a different ear than the servlets handling the web frontend, so I can't access the spring application context directly. Required change I want to switch to Spring Security for handling the user login. Question How can I propagate the spring login information to the JBoss security context so I can still use my EJBs without having to rewrite them? Ideas and links I already found a page talking about "Propagating Identity from Spring Security to the EJB Layer", but unfortunatelly it refers to an older version of Spring Security (Acegi) and I'm not familiar enough with Spring Security to make this work with the actual version (3.0.2).

  Hello, I am looking for a cheap solution to my problem: I need to find either a common device (that is used in restaurants, bars clubs) or a cheap new device that can connect to internet (via the already existing ethernet or wireless based internet) and do HTTP request/receive response and retrieve information ? (For instance can a POS device connect to internet?) For a project, I need to do identity validation on several restaurants and bars and not all of them have computers.   Using a trigger-based approach to audit logging, I am recording the history of changes made to tables in the database. The approach I'm using (with a static sql server login) to record which user made the change involves running a stored procedure at the outset of each database connection. The triggers use this username when recording the audit rows. (The triggers are provided by the product OmniAudit.) However, the ASP.NET Membership tables are accessed primarily through the Membership API. I need to pass in the current user's identity when the Membership API opens its database connection. I tried subclassing MembershipProvider but I cannot access the underlying database connection. It seems like this would be a common problem. Does anyone know of any hooks we can access when the ASP.NET Membership makes its database connection?

  Hi, We just came across a weird bug in our application that uses the asp.net membership. The administrator had created some users with spaces behind their name: 'My Username ' In the Users table this is saved normally, so without the spaces: 'My Username' The user can also login using the name without the spaces: 'My Username' When we use User.Identity.Name in our applicatie the result is the username WITH the spaces: 'My Username '. Where do these spaces come from? They aren't stored in the Users table so where does he get this from?! Thanks!

By running ssh-keygen -y -f /tmp/my.key > /tmp/my.key.pub I can extract the public key. My question is how can I extract the public key from python?   I am using impersonation is used to access file on UNC share as below. var ctx = ((WindowsIdentity)HttpContext.Current.User.Identity).Impersonate(); string level = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().ImpersonationLevel); On two Windows 2003 servers using IIS6, I am getting different impersonation levels: Delegation on one server and Impersonation on the other server. This causes issues where I am unable to access the UNC share on the server with 'Impersonation' level. What could be causing this difference? I searched through machine.config and IIS settings for the app pool, site and virtual directories - but aren't able to find the cause of this problem.

• Entity framework error: The conversion of a datetime2 data type to a datetime data

  I know there are a ton of posts about this issue but none of them seem to solve my problem. Here's the scenario: I have a CreateDate DateTime column in my MS SQL Server database User table that is non-nullable and is automatically set using GetDate() method in "Default Value or Binding" setting. I am able to create a User just fine with the standard EF Insert but when I try to update the user, I get this error: The conversion of a datetime2 data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value. What is the trick to not having the EF worry about the CreateDate column for updates? I have the StoreGenerationPattern = Identity but that isn't helping. • My HttpHandler doesn't want to create directory on a network

  I use this simple line of code inside my HttpHandler: Directory.CreateDirectory(@"\\srv-001\dev\folderToCreate\"); I receive an UnauthoridezAccessException telling me that the access to the path is denied. From here, I create a little Dos application in C# doing the same thing and I was able to create the folder. So, I thought that it might be that IIS is running on a different user than myself. I went to IIS and changed the Application pool to a Custom user, myself. But, unfortunately, I got the same exception. I have try to create a Share folder on my computer and I can create directory. Also, when debugging I can see that System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity have its AuthenticationType to "", IsAuthenticated to false and name to "". So, with all those tests I can conclude that the HttpHandler that receive the file cannot create a directory because of some security access. How can I grand access to my HttpHandler to be able to create a directory (and files) to a network folder?

• Is it possible to bundle a unique file for each copy of iPhone app downloaded from App Store?

  Hi, I would like to verify the identity of each instance of the iPhone application that a user might use to connect to my service. To that end, I would like each instance of the iPhone app downloaded to include a certificate that I generate, or even some sort of UUID that I have generated. Does the App Store support the inclusion of unique files in an app bundle? Or, must such identifiers be downloaded only after the app is installed? If that is the case, is there a mechanism to ensure that the app downloaded is trusted (from me), instead of from an impersonator?

Detailed requirement goes this way: 1) I have developped a web application using .NET (3.5) named "abc.com". 2) There are some third party applications which will be launched from "abc.com" 3) If I have logged in to "abc.com" and now if I launch any of the supported third party applications then it should not ask for login information again. From last few days I have been reading Shibboleth from https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/SHIB2/Home I have also installed Identity provider (IdP) and Service Provide (SP) from https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/SHIB2/Installation Still I am unable to make out how my "abc.com", third party application and Shibboleth will fit into one picture? • ASP.NET MVC AuthorizeAttribute passing values to ActionMethod?

  Hi everyone I'm only a newcomer to ASP.NET MVC and am not sure how to achieve a certain task the "right way". Essentially, I store the logged in userId in HttpContext.User.Identity and have written an EnhancedAuthorizeAttribute to perform some custom authorization. In the overriden OnAuthorization method, my domain model hits the database to ensure the current user id can access the passed in routeValue "BatchCode". The prototype is: ReviewGroup GetReviewGroupFromBatchCode(string batchCode); It will return null if the user can't access the ReviewGroup and the OnAuthorization then denies access. Now, I know the decorated action method will only get executed if OnAuthorization passes, but I don't want to hit the database a second time to get the ReviewGroup again. I am thinking of storing the ReviewGroup in HttpContext.Items["reviewGroup"] and accessing this from the controller at the moment. Is this a feasible solution, or am I on the wrong path? Thanks!
