    I'm currently generating documentation on one machine, and publishing it to a web server using the following commands in a script: net use "\\someShare" PASSWORD /user:username del /S /Q "\\someShare" xcopy /E /Y Documentation\html\* "\\someShare\" However, it feels like a really bad idea to have a password as plain text in the script, so I'm looking for alternatives to my current solution. Ideas? I definitely would appreciate a solution that uses some kind of access control, as many different people should be allowed to publish their own documentation to the web server, but not mess with each other's docs.

    Right now if I try to add a non-system user not in the university's Kerberos realm I am prompted for a Kerberos password anyway. Obviously there is no password to be entered, so I just press enter and see: passwd: Authentication token manipulation error passwd: password unchanged Typing passwd newuser has the same issue with the same message. I tried using pwconv in the hopes that only a shadow entry was needed, but it changed nothing. I want to be able to add a local user not in the realm and give them a local password without being bothered about Kerberos. I am on Ubuntu 10.04. Loginned as root........ # date -u 062800002010 Mon Jun 28 00:00:00 GMT 2010 # date Sun Feb 28 05:30:02 IST 2010 As seen above,, when i fire the "date" command again.... the new updated date doesn't get reflected.........     How do you decrease or shrink the size of a KVM virtual machine disk? I allocated a virtual disk of 500GB (stored at /var/lib/libvirt/images/vm1.img), and I'm finding that overkill, so now I'd like to free up some of that space for use with other virtual machines. There seems to be a lot answers on how to increase image storage, but not decrease it. I found the virt-resize tool, but it only seems to work with raw disk partitions, not disk images.

  • Windows authentication skip for one folder and allow local domain's user

    I have intranet application with windows authentication on it. Annonymous users are not allowed. Now i am trying to add one subfolder which should be allowed to local domain users too. I enabled "annonymous access" iis on that subfolder and that worked. but i am using AJAX(timer control) on one of page of that subfolder and when timer_ticks it gives "sys is undefined error". any idea to solve this issue?   • Safari 4 starting up slowly on a Vista machine

    I have two PCs (different specs) with the latest Windows Vista and Safari 4 updates installed. In one machine, Safari 4 works great but in the other, it starts up slowly (less than a minute though) with harddisk sound indicating data access activities. I have cleared all internet caches and I am quite sure that there is no virus in both machines. Are there any other reasons that Safari performances are so different in comparably similar software and hardware environments?

  • ntp.conf sync to local machines

    I have 2 linux machines, they do not have internet connectivity or any other means of getting an external clock. I need one of them to act as the "master"/server and the other machine to sync it's clock to that server. It's not important that the time is correct, it's only important that the time is the same on these 2 machines. So, give I have a server (192.168.1.10) and a client (192.168.1.11), how do I set up /etc/ntp.conf on these 2 machines respectivly ?

    Hello I am new to ubuntu linux and am currently trying to configure my netbeans to work with PHP. I have found several tutorials to install all the applications I need and have installed a virtual directory for netbeans to run in. Unfortunately, whenever netbeans or I myself go to my local host I get an error 403. I tried modifying my settings to allow from localhost (instead of allow from all) but this did not work and am completely out of ideas.

    I am currently trying to figure out which solution would be best for software renting service (with proper licensing and stuff). I know its kinda stupid and so on, but I just have to develop it. Long story short - user can connect to a virtual machine (with windows guest os) using vnc and use some specific software for some specific time (eg., 1 hour). I have already considered VirtualBox, Xen and some other, but maybe somebody has a better idea. Thanks.

After shutting it down and reopening it, it no longer works. Here's what I see: I've checked the Virtual Machine settings. It appears as running. I waited for a long time, but there no response yet. Is there anything I can do apart from reinstalling it?

    I have installed and configured in private server a local git repository using Gitorious. The problem I am facing is that when I set up a new Gitorious project and limit read access permissions to specific users, the repositories inside the project are not visible any more. This happens even though the access permissions of those repositories grant access to these users. Any idea on how to solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance!

    I have a test suite which runs in a browser (using QUnit, though that's unimportant). The test suite requires a local server running on a particular port. Running the tests currently involves a few steps: node test/server switch to browser of choice open localhost:3000 I'd like to have a single command which starts the server then runs open localhost:3000. Ideally, the node process would remain in the foreground so it could be killed with ^C. I don't have a good understanding of subshells, so I'm not sure whether this is possible.

    I'm quite annoyed with my firefox and Flash files : When I try opening a .swf file with it: If the file is on the web (via http://...), it plays normally in browser If the file is local (via file:///...), firefox only show me a dialog to download it It tried opening a web swf file, downloading it then opening it locally, it's the same. So I guess it's a firefox problem. I'm on Gentoo Linux, and it started today, without any apparent reason.

    Suddenly my machine not working under run level 5 and it seems to be problem with xserver and it is saying that "in last 90 seconds xserver restarted 6 times and unable to start" and then just giving blank screen.So i changed the run level to 3 and using startx command i am managing to work now.can any one help me on this.......?
