  • Display last image taken in Media.Images

    Hi I'm inserting an image from the camera (Taking a picture) into the MediaStore.Images.Media datastore. Does anyone know how I can go about displaying the last picture taken? I used Uri image = ContentUris.withAppendedId(externalContentUri, 45); to display an image from the datastore but obviously 45 is not the correct image. I try to pass the information from the previous activity (Camera) to the display activity but I'm assuming due to the photo call back being its own thread the value never gets set.   • Ubuntu won't suspend automatically any more

    In the last month or so, Ubuntu (12.04) has stopped sleeping automatically. I've gone to System Settings Power, and verified (and toggled) "suspend on inactive for" to 5 minutes (for both battery and "when plugged in"), but the system stays awake. I've also tried used code similar to $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac-timeout 300 $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-battery-timeout 300 to set the timeout values. I've also verified these in dconf Editor. Previously, I could set this quite low to make my computer sleep quickly, but now it no longer works either. I'm not sure if this is relevant, but under old versions of Ubuntu, if I wanted my computer to never suspend (via the CLI), I would also have to set $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power sleep-inactive-ac false At some point, this seemed to have been depreciated (and also gave me the error "No such key 'sleep-inactive-ac'"). I found that it it was enough to set sleep-inactive-ac-timeout to 0. This worked for a while, but at some point auto-suspend stopped working as stated above. Oddly enough, the sleep-inactive-ac key is still present when I look via dconf editor. However, when I click it, it says "no schema", and the summary, etc. fields are blank. To test if the dconf power plugin was working, I tried playing around with other settings in the schema. Idle-dim-time and idle-dim-ac work as expected . However, setting sleep-display-ac to 5 seconds has no effect. I'm also not sure if this is relevant, but I've uninstalled gnome-screensaver, and installed xscreensaver. I have tried killing xscreensaver and re-installing gnome-screensaver, but this did not help. I've also had some trouble with DPMS. I'm not sure if this is related, but I'll put the information here, just in case. Using xscreensaver, I set Power Management to enabled, with standby and suspend timeouts to 10 minutes. I've verified these settings in ~/.xscreensaver and xset q. However, the screen blanks after about 30 seconds. If I turn off DPMS (either via xscreensaver GUI or modifying ~/.xscreensaver), it won't blank at all, so I know that DPMS is partially reading the xscreensaver settings. -- edit I've attempted more troubleshooting, by creating a new user account, then logging out of the main account and into the new account. I've tried modifying the timeouts via dconf, but get the same results as above (i.e. it doesn't work, nor does sleep-display-ac, but idle-dim-time and idle-dim-ac work). Also, the depreciated sleep-display-ac key is not visible, so I think that this is probably unrelated. -- edit I've since moved to gnome-shell instead of unity, and still have this problem, so I guess that it's something to do with gnome-power-manager.

But how much of an impact can a service have on your system, especially if it is ‘corrupted’ by malware? Today’s SuperUser Q&A post has the answers to a curious reader’s questions. Today’s Question & Answer session comes to us courtesy of SuperUser—a subdivision of Stack Exchange, a community-driven grouping of Q&A web sites. The Question SuperUser reader Forivin wants to know how much impact a service can have on a Windows system, especially if it is ‘corrupted’ by malware: What kind malware/spyware could someone put into a service that does not have its own process on Windows? I mean services that use svchost.exe for example, like this: Could a service spy on my keyboard input? Take screenshots? Send and/or receive data over the internet? Infect other processes or files? Delete files? Kill processes? How much impact could a service have on a Windows installation? Are there any limits to what a malware ‘corrupted’ service could do? The Answer SuperUser contributor Keltari has the answer for us: What is a service? A service is an application, no more, no less. The advantage is that a service can run without a user session. This allows things like databases, backups, the ability to login, etc. to run when needed and without a user logged in. What is svchost? According to Microsoft: “svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that run from dynamic-link libraries”. Could we have that in English please? Some time ago, Microsoft started moving all of the functionality from internal Windows services into .dll files instead of .exe files. From a programming perspective, this makes more sense for reusability…but the problem is that you can not launch a .dll file directly from Windows, it has to be loaded up from a running executable (exe). Thus the svchost.exe process was born. So, essentially a service which uses svchost is just calling a .dll and can do pretty much anything with the right credentials and/or permissions. If I remember correctly, there are viruses and other malware that do hide behind the svchost process, or name the executable svchost.exe to avoid detection. Have something to add to the explanation?   • PPTP VPN connects via NM but goes down during SSH connection

    I setup a VPN PPTP connection via network manager and it connects correctly (I see the lock near the notification icon and the message "Vpn connection has been successfully...")   • Delphi Pascal - Using SetFilePointerEx and GetFileSizeEx, Getting Physical Media exact size when reading as a file

    I am having trouble understanding how to delcare GetFileSizeEx and SetFilePointerEx in Delphi 2009 so that I can use them since they are not in the RTL or Windows.pas. I was able to compile with the following: function GetFileSizeEx(hFile: THandle; lpFileSizeHigh: Pointer): DWORD; external 'kernel32'; Then using GetFileSizeEx(PD, Pointer(DriveSize)); to get the size. But could not get it to work, the disk handle I am using is valid and I have had no problem reading the data or working under the 2gb mark with the older API's. GetFileSize of course returns 4294967295. I have had greater trouble trying to use SetFilePointerEx with the data types it uses. The overall project needs to read the data from a flash card, which is not a problem at all I can do this. My problem is that I can not find the length or size of the media I will be reading. I have code I have used in the past to do this with media under 2GB. But now that I need to read media over 2GB it is a problem. If you still dont understand I am dumping a card with all data including the boot record, etc. This is the code I would normally use to read from the physical disk to grab say the boot record and dump it to file: SetFilePointer(PD,0,nil,FILE_BEGIN); SetLength(Buffer,512); ReadFile(PD,Buffer[0],512,BytesReturned,nil); I just need to figure out how to find the end of an 8gb card and so on as well as being able to set a file pointer beyond the 2gb barrier.   • Ping bind errors in Operations Manager 2007

    I am having an issue in SCOM 2007 R2. I am routinely getting the following errors: Failed to ping or bind to the RID Master FSMO role holder. The default gateway is not pingable. Failed to ping or bind to the Infrastructure Master FSMO role holder. The default gateway is not pingable. Failed to ping or bind to the Domain Naming Master FSMO role holder. The default gateway is not pingable. Failed to ping of bind to the Schema Master FSMO role holder. The default gateway is not pingable. The weird thing about these errors if I log into the server in question or if I log in to the SCOM server I can ping everything just fine. To top it all off the server in question is the role holder for 2 of the roles it is complaining about (RID and Infrastructure). Any thoughts as to what might be going on?

Any clue on how to fix this error?

Basically the ability to manage my Macs easily and in a native way. At first I tried the magic triangle solution, but I found this to be very complicated. Not only does it require a Mac OS X Server, but it gives you two points of failure. Additionally each Mac workstation must be bound to both servers. Eventually I sucked it up and went with the schema changes documented here. I was hesitant at first, because the instructions require a lot of manual work. However it was fairly basic and only took me about an hour and a half. Below you'll find the schema changes file that was a result of my work.     When trying to do some science to answer this question, I took a Windows 7 guest on a Server 2008 R2 host being managed by SCVMM 2012 and ran Prime95 on it to just generate some CPU usage. Here's the Guest: The Hyper-V host shows 12%, which is 1/8 cores (which is what is allocated), so that's looking correct: But SCVMM is showing 0%: I have left the stress test running for a long time, thinking that maybe SCVMM averages out over a long time (I thought it was 9 minutes, but I've been known to be wrong; just don't tell my wife). Why is SCVMM showing 0% when everything else seems to disagree?

It gets especially annoying when I try to rename a file, and start winword by accident, or try to refresh a page, and nothing happens (It's the undo - no effect inside a browser usually). I know I can rebind those keys to just do nothing, but I just wanted to know why does the func mode changes by itself? Can it be something with power management/screen saver?

What is the correct way to set up a rule to make firefox always open in a particular tag?

    I got WMP 12 (on Windows 7 RC1) to play FLAC files by installing the Ogg Vorbis/FLAC, Direct Show filters, but WMP does not display the embedded cover artwork. After experimenting I found that it will display the cover art if it is embedded in PNG format, but up to now I've used JPEG for all my FLAC files. Rather than re-tagging all my files, does anyone know a way to get WMP 12 to display JPEG embedded cover art?

    I'm just starting to setup DPM 2010 in a test environment with a Domain Controller and a File Server. Everything seem to be working fairly well and I can get all of my backup jobs to succeed except for the "Computer\System Protection" backups. Both servers are running fully up to date 64 bit Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 1. The error that is being provided is: DPM cannot create a backup because Windows Server Backup (WSB) on the protected computer encountered an error (WSB Event ID: 517, WSB Error Code: 0x8078001D). (ID 30229 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FB) This Microsoft Knowledge Base article describes the issue perfectly and provides a hotfix. I downloaded the hotfix, moved it onto the affected server, attempt to run it and receive the following error: The update is not applicable to your computer. I've verified that I have indeed downloaded the 64 bit version. According to this thread the hotfix got rolled into Service Pack 1, yet I'm still experiencing the issue. Both machines do have the Windows Server Backup feature installed. Can anybody point me in the right direction? What am I missing?

    What exactly is the CPU Average field in VMM 2012 showing me? I'm running Server 2008 R2 with VMM 2012. My server has 2x16 core CPUs installed. An example virtual machine has 4 virtual processors, and shows 20% CPU usage. Is that: 20% of the entire system's available CPU power? 20% of 4 of the 32 core's CPU power? 20% of one core's CPU? (in which case it could go as high as 400%) Something else entirely? How can I tell how much of the entire system's CPU power is being used (all 32 cores)? Edit: Well, I can tell for sure it's not 20% of the entire system's CPU power - since the entire server's CPU averages add up to well over 100% right now.

  • Windows Media Player - Display JPEG cover art for FLAC files

    I got WMP 12 (on Windows 7 RC1) to play FLAC files by installing the Ogg Vorbis/FLAC, Direct Show filters, but WMP does not display the embedded cover artwork. After experimenting I found that it will display the cover art if it is embedded in PNG format, but up to now I've used JPEG for all my FLAC files. Rather than re-tagging all my files, does anyone know a way to get WMP 12 to display JPEG embedded cover art?

  • Configuring Backup Exec 2012 using USB hard drives as media

    I have found some information on this but have not found the exact answers to these questions. Background I have installed backup exec 2012 (with agents for databases) I have configured a storage pool, with 2 USB drives (1TB) The backups are configured to backup to one of the 2 drives (depending on which one is connected) I have 2 questions: How do I get Backup Exec to tell me which disk to insert? I have used tapes before and it told me then which tape to use? I was hoping this was available for disks too. (Whilst there are only 2 at the moment, there will be more). And then how do I get Backup Exec to delete old backups when the disk if full.

  • High RAM usage, not seen in task manager

    Hi! I am using Windows 7 64-bit 7600, with 4Gb of RAM. I have a serious problem, since something uses a lot of RAM(3.94Gb) and I see "stairs" in taskmanager, it rises to +3Gb RAM and it drops to about 2Gb and then rises slowly again, and suddenly drops. I tryed installing this version again and other versions, newer ones, but no effect. Ive even tryed disconnecting other harddrives while I installed it, and then installed NOD32 and updated it. How could I know what is using that much RAM? P.S.: I was suspecting superfetch service, I disabled it, restarted pc, and it didnt work, since the memory is the highest point when I login with password, it is really annoying since I need about 1minute to see my desktop, neither alone try anything else. After loging in it slowly drops and after random time it starts rising again. That doesnt happen immediately after a fresh windows install. And how the drivers go, I tryed older drivers for GPU, and newest ones.
