• MVC with cocoa/objective-c

  Hi all, I have a strong j2ee background, and I am trying to move to objective-c for some desktop/iphone programming. I used many java web frameworks with mvc in mind, spring and struts ecc... so I am used to have servlet or controller which pass attributes to jsp pages, which is the view. In jsp pages with jstl you can call this attribute and render to video. In this way controller and view are (in theory) clearly separated. With xcode, I can easily recognize the controller and the view built with IBuilder. All the tutorial I found, shown the controller which go and change directly labels or text fields. So my two questions: seems to me that there's no separation between the two (controller and view), where I am wrong in that ? is there a way for a controller to pack all objects in a kind of context in a j2ee way and have the view read that context ? thanks Leonardo

• iPhone - Dismiss modal view by a UITabBarController

  Hi everyone, I've got into a very strange problem. I created my own UITabBarController to customize it and it works pretty well... except for the modal views. When I dismiss the modal view (present/dismiss from the UITabBarController) with an animation, it waits until the animation did finished and goes to the first controller of the tab bar! Why does the controller change? and how can I fix it? Thanks PS: My UITabBarController view is on the main window and has a UITabBar on it. The controllers (which are managed by the tab bar) are on the main window over the tab bar controller view with a shorter height. When I present the modal view, I bring the tab bar controller view to front.

• CruiseControl failing view compilation with Asp.net MVC 2 RTM

  Tehnologies: - CruiseControlNet - Asp.net MVC 2 RTM - enabled view compilation The problem is UrlParameter.Optional setting. I can't seem to make it work when I use this setting inside a view. When I compile inside Visual Studio, everything works fine, but when CCNet uses MSBuild to compile it it fails with following error: errorCS0103: The name 'UrlParameter' does not exist in the current context pointing to the line inside my view where this parameter is set on: Html.RenderAction(...) that sets certain route parameter(s) to optional. I tried adding <%@ Assembly name="System.Web.Mvc" %> at the top of my view, but it didn't work either. It works of course when I disable view compilation, but that's not really an option. And I also don't want to set my optional parameters to string.Empty. Anyone has any hint on this?

  Hello World! Hi guys, I have a master page with two partial viewson it both of which submit to the AccountController. When I click Submit on either of the partial views the following happens: If I declare the partial views like Html.BeginForm("PartialAction1","Account") it redirects to that partial view on clicking submit instead bringing back the default HomeContoller Index view with validation errors. If I declare the partial view forms as Html.BeginForm() then it returns to the default index view of the home controller. But it actually fires both partial view actions inside the AccountController and thus returns validation errors for both partial views simultaneously. What I want is version 2 above with only one action firing instead of two. Am I missing, hopefully, something very simple? I hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction. • Best placement for javascript in Asp.net MVC app that heavily uses partial views

  What is the best place for javascript that is specific to a partial view? For example, if I have a partial view (loaded via ajax call) with some divs and I want to turn those divs into an accordian, would it be better put the $("#section").accordion() in script tags inside of the partial view, or in a .js file in the function that retrieves that partial view and inserts it into the DOM? Obviously, common methods I will be keeping in a .js file, however I am more talking about javascript very specific to the partial view itself. Most things I find on the net seem to say to put all javascript into a separate .js but nothing addresses the idea of partial views.

That is what Rails, Grails, Struts, Spring MVC ... are doing. The other category, the component based frameworks like Wicket, Tapestry, JSF, or ASP.Net Web Forms have become more popular over the last years, but my perception is that the traditional action based approach is far more popular. And even ASP .Net Web Forms has become a sibling name ASP .Net Web MVC. I think the kind of applications built with both types of frameworks is overlapping very much, so the question is: Why are action based frameworks so predominant?

  I am trying to upload images via a form which sits in partial view using MVC.   I am still very new to the MVC framework, but I managed to create a controller that reads from a database and writes JSON to an url; host.com/Controllername?minValue=something&maxValue=something However when I move the site to a subfolder; host.com/mvc/ it doesn't seem to be able to call the controller from there when I do it like this; host.com/mvc/Procedure?minValue=something&maxValue=something Did I forget to do something somewhere to make this url call valid from that subfolder? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

  I currently have my web.xml configured to catch 404s and send them to my spring controller which will perform a search given the original URL request. The problem lies in resolving the view's path to the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Using a logger in my JBoss setup, I can see that when I test this search controller by going to a non-existent page, the following occurs: Server can't find the request Request is sent to 404 error page (in this case my search controller) Search controller performs search Search controller returns view name (for this illustration, we'll assume test.jsp is returned) Based off of server logger, I can see that org.springframework.web.servlet.view.JstlView is initialized once my search controller returns the view name (so I can assume it is being picked up correctly by the InternalResourceViewResolver) Server attempts to return content to browser resulting in a 404! A couple things confuse me about this: I'm not 100% sure why this isn't resolving when test.jsp clearly exists under the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Even if there was some other problem, why would this result in a 404? Shouldn't a 404 error page that results in another 404 theoretically create an infinite loop? Thanks for any help or pointers! • In which controller do you put the CRUD for the child part of a relationship?

  I am using ASP.Net MVC but this probably applies to all MVC patterns in general. My problem, for example I have companies and in each company I have a list of contacts. When I have selected a company I can see its details and a list of the contacts for that company. When I want to add a new contact for that company, should the implementation of that action go into the company controller as an "AddContact" action or should it go into the contact controller into a "New" action and we pass the Company ID in the URL? What is the usual way of dealing with this sort of thing in ASP.Net MVC? Is there a better stategy?

  Hi, I'm bit of a newbie and had a basic question regarding adhering to the MVC model in iPhone coding. How do I setup a Model class that holds my data and connect it to different controllers in the following setup: Using Interface Builder, I created a tab controller in which - Tab #1 has a Nav Controller and a hierarchy of View Controllers. - Tab #2 has a View Controller So with what I have now, the View Controller under Tab #1 alloc init's the model class and I know how to pass the model from one ViewController to the next in the Navigation Hierarchy where it can pass the data and/or be updated with new data. Question is how to pass it from Tab #1's View Controller to Tab #2 View Controller as there is no code linking the two??? Thanks in advance, Hiren.

• Why can't I register a custom model binder for a List<int>?

  I have an action that looks like public ActionResult GetUsers(List<int> userIds) {//do stuff} The list of userIds can become quite long, so I want to use Json.Net to deserialize it. To do so I created an IModelBinder implementation, which works fine for other objects, but never gets called for a List. The IModelBind looks like this public class JsonBinder : System.Web.Mvc.IModelBinder { public object BindModel(System.Web.Mvc.ControllerContext controllerContext, System.Web.Mvc.ModelBindingContext bindingContext) { //Do model binding stuff using Json.Net } } And I register this model binder with this line ModelBinders.Binders.Add(typeof(List<int>), new JsonBinder()); However the JsonBinder is never called. Why is this? Should I be using a ValueProvider?

• MVC: Why put the business logic in the model? What happens when I've multiple types of storage?

  I always thought that the business logic has to be in the controller and that the controller, since it is the 'middle' part, stays static and that the model/view have to be capsuled via interfaces, that way you could change the business logic without affecting anything else, program multiple Models (one for each database/type of storage) and a dozens of views (for different platforms for example). Now I read in this question that you should always put the business logic into the model and that the controller is deeply connected with the view. To me, that doesn't really make sense and implies that each time I want to have the means of supporting another database/type of storage I've to rewrite my whole model including the business logic. And if I want another view, I've to rewrite both the view and the controller. May someone explain why that is or if I went wrong somewhere? Currently, that whole thing doesn't really make sense to me.

  I have deployed the default asp.net mvc 4 web api project to my windows server 2008 RC and am experiensing some issues with calling the web api actions. I'm quite new in the server/iis configuration part. I can open the home page, but the API part doesnt work. • ASP.NET MVC Resource not found

  I am working on an MVC project in Visual Studio 2010 with .NET Framework 4.0 + MVC2 and everything works if I set the target framework to .NET 4.0. However, my host does not offer .NET 4.0 in order to deploy the site I need to get it working on .NET 3.5. I tried converting it to ASP.NET 3.5 and everything builds just fine except now when I try to load the homepage, I get a 404 Error saying: The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. • ASP.NET MVC hosting recommendations

  I'm looking for recommendations for hosting an asp.net MVC application. Obviously, we need to be able to have access to configure IIS directly - I'd prefer not to have to go thru a control panel. The web server needs to have a dedicated IP, since some clients will be accessing it via IP. We need at least a SQLServer 2005 database, ideally on the same box. Load and usage will be pretty low, so a virtual machine will probably be fine. Does any one have any recommendations that meet the above constraints?

• IIS 7.5 and ASP.NET MVC Routing

  I'm running an ASP.NET MVC 3 application on an IIS 7.5 server (my development server). When I set up my production server something goes wrong. Serving the same application binaries, using the same web.config file and connecting to the same database I get different results. Something must be wrong with my IIS configuration, but what? Here's an example I visit http://mysite.com/An/AspNetMvc/Routed/Address/1 and everything works I visit http://mysite.com/An/AspNetMvc/Routed/Address/1.1 works on my development server but not on my production server which gives the following error HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. • ASP.NET MVC + MySql Membership Provider, user cannot login

  Hello, I've been playing around with using MySql as the membership provider for asp.net mvc forms authentication. I've got things configured correctly as far as i can tell, and i can create users via both the register action and asp.net web config site. however, when i try to login with one of the users, it does not work. it returns an error as if i had entered a wrong password, or if the account doesn't exist. i have verified in the database that the account does exist. UPDATE So after debugging the login process in the code of the membership provider itself, i discovered that there is a bug in the provider. There is a discrepancy between the password hash that is stored in the database, and the has that is generated based on the inputted password. As a workaround for my issue, i changed the password format to 'encrpyted' and added a machine key to my web.config. I am still interested in figuring out the issue with the hashed format in the provider, and will spend some more time debugging it, and if i can figure out the problem, i will put together a patch and submit it.

• NullReferenceException makes me want to shoot myself

  Ok, so once upon a time, my code worked. Since then I did some refactoring (basic stuff so I thought) but now I'm getting a null reference exception, and I can't bloody well figure out why. • Html.hiddenfor does not return value

  Hi I have a template partial view, which used to render a model named VerificationCode, this model has a element 'CaptchaGeneratedText' which is hidden in the view and set value by Html.HiddenFor(m=m.CaptchaGeneratedText, captchaText), the problem is when view post, in the model validation the value of element 'CaptchaGeneratedText' is null, but it should not be as varant 'captchaText' has some value. meanwhile, the other element 'CaptchaUserInput' of this model does have value. Anybody have experienced similiar problem? Sorry I was unable to submit script file.

  I am very confused the View and corresponding controller has to be set in MVC 1.0 project structure. Currently in a default application we have About.aspx page under Home folder and all the controller action is handled in HomeController. This controller mixes up Home action and About action. It makes things messy. I like to have clear separation of my controller. Like to have one About Controller and HomeCotroller separately. For it I have create another folder "About" under view folder and place Aboput.aspx in it , otherwise we will get the error below. How can I achieve it ?? I like to have exact folder structure as in View, same as in Cotroller. The view 'About' or its master could not be found. The following locations were searched: ~/Views/About/About.aspx ~/Views/About/About.ascx ~/Views/Shared/About.aspx ~/Views/Shared/About.ascx Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request.
