    How to use CCR, DSS, VPL (aka Microsoft Robotics Development Studio) outside robotics? I am looking for guidance in this field. I have tried all the examples and find the framework intriguing.   • Bind xaml vector images dynamically

    I'm looking for a way to bind xaml images dynamically in code. There are lots of examples online to show how to bind png or xaml images in the window's xaml, or to load png files in code. But I have found no examples for xaml files with build action=page. XmlReader can't handle them since they are compiled to baml. LoadComponent(new Uri("...filename.xaml") will apparently load the baml but what kind of image class do I load this into? BitmapImage(new Uri("...filename.xaml") does not seem to work, probably because it's not a bitmap. Thanks in advance.

  • flash - django communication -- amf, xml, or json?

    We are considering to develop a Flash front-end to a web application written using Django. The Flash front-end will send a simple "id" to the server and in response receive a couple of objects. The application will be open only to authenticated users. To the extend of my current knowledge (which is basic for Flash) we can either use AMF or take an XML or JSON approach. AMF seems to have an upperhand as there are examples out on the internet showing it can cooperate easily with Django's authentication mechanism (most examples feature pyAMF). On the other hand, implementing a XML/JSON based solution may be easier and hassle free. Guidance will be much appreciated.

  • MVC ASP.Net how do I add a second model to a view? i.e. Add a dropdown list to a page with a html grid?

    I have been able to find lots of examples of adding a Dropdown list to a view but I need to add a dropdown list to a view that also has a Webgrid on it. This entails two different models and from what I see I can only have one per view. The DDL will be filled from one model and the grid from the other. I'm just trying to filter the displayed data in the grid with the data selected in the ddl. Any examples or articles would be greatly appreciated. TIA

  • transforming binary data using ssis and sql server 2008

    Hello All - I have a task to import/transform and extract zipped binary files that contain both text data as well as embeded binary data. Within the data is data that is relational in nature and needs to be processed into a defined database structure. Currently I have a C# single threaded app that essentially grabs all the files from the directory (currently there is 13K files of varying sizes) and extracts the data on a single thread line by line inserts to the database. As you could imagine this is a very slow process and unacceptable. There are several different parsing routines used depending on the header record in the file. There are potentially upto a million rows per file when all the data is extracted to the row level of detail. Follow on task is to parse those rows into their appropriate tables based on is content. i.e. the textual content has to be parsed further into "buckets" of like data in the database. That about sums up the big picture. Now for the problem task list. How do i iterate through a packet of data using SSIS? In the app the file is decompressed and then is parsed using streams data type and byte arrays and is routed to the required parsing routine based on the header data of each packet. There is bit swapping involved as well. Should i wrap up the app code into a script task(s) and let it do the custom processing? The data is seperated by year and the sql server tables is partitioned by year as well. I need to be able to "catch" bad file data as well and process by hand most likely. Should i simply load the zipped file to sql as a blob and parse the file with T-SQL? Would that be multi threaded if done that way? Not sure how to do the parsing in tsql that is involved here. Which do you think would be faster? Potentially the data that is currently processed via files could come to us via a socket. Can SSIS collect that data in real time? How would i go about setting that up? Processing these new files from the directorys will become a daily task. I can manage the data once i get it to sql server. Getting it there in a timely fashion seems to be the long pole in the tent for me. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions from the group. Rick

    I'm looking for a regex to validate initials. The only format I want it to allow is: (a capital followed by a period), and that one or more times Valid examples: A. A.B. A.B.C. Invalid examples: a. a A A B A B C AB ABC Using The Regulator and some websites I have found the following regex, but it only allows exactly one upper (or lower!) case character followed by a period: ^[A-Z][/.]$ Basically I only need to know how to force upper case characters, and how I can repeat the validation to allow more the one occurence of an upper case character followed by a period.

  • Programming languages & proof of concepts

    There are plenty of programming languages out there, as you all may know. I am primarily looking for a list of programming languages WITH some very neat proof of concepts. I would really like to learn a new language, but whenever I dive into something new and popular, it isn't what I expected. Any tutorial out there will give you code, small examples, but won't show you the true power of the language. I am looking for examples that run entirely on the language that it is exemplifying. For example, If I said C#, I could possibly show you a complete C# app with backend queries, reports, tables, all with a nice interface. It would be completely reliant on the language that is provided, so no supporting languages. I understand that most languages are integrated with other languages in order to provide a richer application. Any links, charts, websites that may reflect this request is appreciated.

    I was wondering if anyone knew of a great example of using the MVVC pattern for a Silverlight application that does not utilise a data grid? Most of the examples I have read see links below and books such as Pro WPF and Silverlight MVVM by Gary Hall use a silverlight application with a datagrid. Don't get me wrong, these are all great examples.   • What should the Java main method be for a standalone application (for Spring JMS) ?

    I am interested in creating a Spring standalone application that will run and wait to receive messages from an ActiveMQ queue using Spring JMS. I have searched a lot of places and cannot find a consistent way of implementing the main method for such a standalone application. There appears to be few examples of Spring standalone applications. I have looked at Tomcat, JBoss, ActiveMQ and other examples from the around the web but I have not come to a conclusion so ... What is the best practice for implementing a main method for a Java application (specifically Spring with JMS) ?

  • Is there a difference between Perl's shift versus assignment from @_ for subroutine parameters?

    Let us ignore for a moment Damian Conway's best practice of no more than three positional parameters for any given subroutine. Is there any difference between the two examples below in regards to performance or functionality? Using shift: sub do_something_fantastical { my $foo = shift; my $bar = shift; my $baz = shift; my $qux = shift; my $quux = shift; my $corge = shift; } Using @_: sub do_something_fantastical { my ($foo, $bar, $baz, $qux, $quux, $corge) = @_; } Provided that both examples are the same in terms of performance and functionality, what do people think about one format over the other? Obviously the example using @_ is fewer lines of code, but isn't it more legible to use shift as shown in the other example? Opinions with good reasoning are welcome.

    Hi all, I'm writing a Java applet where I should be able to simulate a connection between two hosts. Hence I have to generate packet round-trip times at random. These RTTs can go from ~0 to infinity, but are typically oscillating around some average value (i.e. an extremely large or small value is very improbable but possible).     I was reading jQuery's page for animate() http://api.jquery.com/animate/ Its examples don't mention about if using <a href="#" id="clickme">click me</a> ... $('#clickme').click(function() { $('#someDiv').animate({left: "+=60"}); }) we actually still have to return false like in the old days? $('#clickme').click(function() { $('#someDiv').animate({left: "+=60"}); return false; }) (but then, those examples didn't use a <a> for the "click me"... but used something else. Otherwise the page will jump back to the beginning of the page? Does jQuery have a more elegant or magical way of doing it?

The straightforward is to check the length of each transmitted packet, but I think it will be to slow for me.     Is there any free service to which I could send a UDP packet and it would respond telling me what is my "real" UDP port? (my application is behind a NAT) This kind of service could allow me to make a p2p coordination server with normal php hosting. The p2p clients would know their UDP ports from this service They will then contact my server over HTTP (which is what regular web hosting allows) and tell it their port (and ip, which is normally supplied to cgi scripts) My server will give the clients the IP addresses and ports of the other clients.

    vim comes with a nice built-in interactive tutorial. You can access this tutorial by just running: $ vimtutor It is very easy to use because it creates working cases for basic commands. Is there a more advanced tutorial? Has any one though to build one to help uses take their VIM skills to the next level. Most tutorial and cheat-sheet sites out there for vim only show commands but not necessarily specific uses and examples. Is there an advance tutorial out there? Is this the type of project that could be an open source document that everyone can add examples to? Like a Vim Interactive Wiki or similar to the RegEx sites that have the built in regex testers.

  • MVC (model-view-controller) - can it be explained in simple terms?

    I need to explain to a not-very-technical manager the MVC (model-view-controller) concept and ran into trouble. The problem is that the explanation needs to be on a "your grandma will get it" level - e.g. even the fairly straightforward explanation offered on MVC Wiki page didn't work, at least with my commentary. Does anyone have a reference to a good MVC explanation in simple terms? It would ideally be done with non-techie metaphor examples (e.g. similar to "Decorator pattern is like glasses") - one reason I failed was that all MVC examples I could come up with were development related. I once saw a list of pattern explanations but to the best of my memory MVC was not on it. Thanks!

  • What is the point/purpose of Ruby EventMachine, Python Twisted, or JavaScript Node.js?

    I don't understand what problem these frameworks solve. Are they replacements for a HTTP server like Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, Mongrel, etc? Or are they more? Why might I use them... some real world examples? I've seen endless examples of chat rooms and broadcast services, but don't see how this is any different than, for instance, setting up a Java program to open sockets and dispatch a thread for each request. I think I understand the non-blocking I/O, but I don't understand how that is any different than a multi-threaded web server.

    Hi I have a Java web service and a Java web client making use of this service. One of the functions is to create a new user account. My two concerns are: How will I send the user's password securely from the client. How will I store the user's password securely on the server. How can I achieve these? I know the theory basically behind security, security algorithms etc but can anyone give me some advice on how I should go about in coding?     Hello, I know it's a frequent question but I just can't figure it out and the examples I found didn't helped. What I learned, the best strategy is to try to find the top and bottom values of the top range and then select the rest, but implementing is a bit tricky. Example table: id | title | group_id | votes I'd like to get the top 3 voted rows from the table, for each group. I'm expecting this result: 91 | hello1 | 1 | 10 28 | hello2 | 1 | 9 73 | hello3 | 1 | 8 84 | hello4 | 2 | 456 58 | hello5 | 2 | 11 56 | hello6 | 2 | 0 17 | hello7 | 3 | 50 78 | hello8 | 3 | 9 99 | hello9 | 3 | 1 I've fond complex queries and examples, but they didn't really helped.
