  • Codeigniter image manipulation class rotates image during resize

    - by someoneinomaha
    I'm using Codeigniter's image manipulation library to re-size an uploaded image to three sizes, small, normal and large. The re-sizing is working great. However, if I'm resizing a vertical image, the library is rotating the image so it's horizontal. These are the config settings I have in place: $this->resize_config['image_library'] = 'gd2'; $this->resize_config['source_image'] = $this->file_data['full_path']; $this->resize_config['maintain_ratio'] = TRUE; // These change based on the type (small, normal, large) $this->resize_config['new_image'] = './uploads/large/'.$this->new_file_name.'.jpg'; $this->resize_config['width'] = 432; $this->resize_config['height'] = 288; I'm not setting the master_dim property because the default it set to auto, which is what I want. My assumption is that the library would take a vertical image, see that the height is greater than the width and translate the height/width config appropriately so the image remains vertical. What is happening (apparently) is that the library is rotating the image when it is vertical and sizing it per the configuration. This is the code in place I have to do the actual re-sizing: log_message('debug', 'attempting '.$size.' photo resize'); $this->CI->load->library('image_lib'); $this->CI->image_lib->initialize($this->resize_config); if ($this->CI->image_lib->resize()) { $return_value = TRUE; log_message('debug', $size.' photo resize successful'); } else { $this->errors[] = $this->CI->image_lib->display_errors(); log_message('debug', $size.' photo resize failed'); } $this->CI->image_lib->clear(); return $return_value;

  • Texture loading at joGL

    - by Nour
    hi I've been trying to load a bmp picture to use it as a texture at my program I've used a IOstream Class to extend DataInputStream to read the pixels at the photo with this code "based on a texture loader code for c++ " : //class Data members public static int BMPtextures[]; public static int BMPtexCount = 30; public static int currentTextureID = 0; //loading methode static int loadBMPTexture(int index, String fileName, GL gl) { try { IOStream wdis = new IOStream(fileName); wdis.skipBytes(18); int width = wdis.readIntW(); int height = wdis.readIntW(); wdis.skipBytes(28); byte buf[] = new byte[wdis.available()]; wdis.read(buf); wdis.close(); gl.glBindTexture(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D, BMPtextures[index]); gl.glTexImage2D(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, 3, width, height, 0, GL.GL_BGR, GL.GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, buf); gl.glTexParameteri(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL.GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL.GL_LINEAR); gl.glTexParameteri(GL.GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL.GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL.GL_LINEAR); currentTextureID = index; return currentTextureID; } catch (IOException ex) { // Utils.msgBox("File Error\n" + fileName, "Error", Utils.MSG_WARN); return -1; } } and IOStream code : public class IOStream extends DataInputStream { public IOStream(String file) throws FileNotFoundException { super(new FileInputStream(file)); } public short readShortW() throws IOException { return (short)(readUnsignedByte() + readUnsignedByte() * 256); } public int readIntW() throws IOException { return readShortW() + readShortW() * 256 * 256; } void read(Buffer[] buf) { } } and the calling: GTexture.loadBMPTexture(1,"/BasicJOGL/src/basicjogl/data/Font.bmp",gl); after debugging I figured out that when it come to this line : IOStream wdis = new IOStream(fileName); an IOExeption occurred and it's a dispatchException .. what this impose to mean ?? and how can I solve it ? by the way i tried to : 1- use \ and \ and / and // 2- change the path of the photo and take all the path from c:\ to the photoname.bmp 3- rename the photo using numbers like 1.bmp but nothing seems to work :(

  • How to pass additional convert options to paperclip on Heroku?

    - by Yuri
    UPD class User < ActiveRecord::Base Paperclip.options[:swallow_stderr] = false has_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :square => "100%", :large => "100%" }, :convert_options => { :square => "-auto-orient -geometry 70X70#", :large => "-auto-orient -geometry X300" }, :storage => :s3, :s3_credentials => "#{RAILS_ROOT}/config/s3.yml", :path => ":attachment/:id/:style.:extension", :bucket => 'mybucket' validates_attachment_size :photo, :less_than => 5.megabyte end Works great on local machine, but gives me an error on Heroku: There was an error processing the thumbnail for stream.20143 The thing is I want to auto-orient photos before resizing, so they resized properly. The only working variant now(thanks to jonnii) is resizing without auto-orient: ... as_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :square => "70X70#", :large => "X300" }, :storage => :s3, :s3_credentials => "#{RAILS_ROOT}/config/s3.yml", :path => ":attachment/:id/:style.:extension", :bucket => 'mybucket' ...   • CakePHP 1.3 and Uploadifive/Uploadify - Change Upload Filename to a random string

    - by CaboONE
    I have somehow implemented UPLOADIFIVE in my CakePHP application. Everything seems to work great including uploading multiple files and inserting the correct information in the Database. Based on the following code, I would like to UPLOAD AND SAVE EVERY FILE WITH A RANDOM NAME TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE CURRENT DATE OR SOMETHING SIMILAR. How could I accomplish this? In my Photos Controller I have the following function: // This function is called at every file upload. It uploads the file onto the server // and save the corresponding image name, etc, to the database table `photos`. function upload() { $uploadDir = '/img/uploads/photos/'; if (!empty($_FILES)) { debug($_FILES); $tempFile = $_FILES['Filedata']['tmp_name'][0]; $uploadDir = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . $uploadDir; $targetFile = $uploadDir . $_FILES['Filedata']['name'][0]; // Validate the file type $fileTypes = array('jpg', 'jpeg', 'gif', 'png'); // Allowed file extensions $fileParts = pathinfo($_FILES['Filedata']['name'][0]); // Validate the filetype if (in_array($fileParts['extension'], $fileTypes)) { // Save the file move_uploaded_file($tempFile,$targetFile); $_POST['image'] = $_FILES['Filedata']['name'][0]; $this->Photo->create(); if ($this->Photo->save($_POST)) { $this->Session->setFlash($targetFile, 'default', array('class' => 'alert_success')); $this->redirect(array('action' => 'index')); } } else { // The file type wasn't allowed //echo 'Invalid file type.'; $this->Session->setFlash(__('The photo could not be saved. Please, try again.', true)); } } } In my View file - admin_add.ctp I have added the following function $('#file_upload').uploadifive({ 'auto' : false, 'uploadScript' : '/photos/upload', 'buttonText' : 'BROWSE FILES', 'method' : 'post', 'onAddQueueItem' : function(file) { this.data('uploadifive').settings.formData = { 'photocategory_id' : $('#PhotoPhotocategoryId').val() }; } }); <input type="file" name="file_upload" id="file_upload" />

  • Data loss when downloading data from LDAP server

    - by Ricky D'Amelio
    Hi there. This question comes from a previous one I asked about handling NSData objects: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2453785/converting-nsdata-to-an-nsstring-representation-is-failing. I have reached the point where I am taking an NSImage, turning it into NSData and uploading those data bytes to the LDAP server. I am doing this like so; //connected successfully to LDAP server above... struct berval photo_berval; struct berval *jpegPhoto_values[2]; photo_berval.bv_len = [photo length]; photo_berval.bv_val = [photo bytes]; jpegPhoto_values[0] = &photo_berval; jpegPhoto_values[1] = NULL; mod.mod_type = "jpegPhoto"; mod.mod_op = LDAP_MOD_REPLACE|LDAP_MOD_BVALUES; mod.mod_bvalues = jpegPhoto_values; mods[0] = &mod; mods[1] = NULL; //perform the modify operation rc = ldap_modify_ext_s(ld, givenModifyEntry, mods, NULL, NULL); That happens with no errors, and you can see a big blob of data when you're in the command line. My problem is, when I go to access the same data at a later stage, I am getting an image file back that's about 120 times smaller than the original image. //find the jpegPhoto attribute photoA = ldap_first_attribute(ld, photoE, &photoBer); while (strcasecmp(photoA, "jpegphoto") != 0) { photoA = ldap_next_attribute(ld, photoE, photoBer); } //get the value of the attribute if ((list_of_photos = ldap_get_values_len(ld, photoE, photoA)) != NULL) { //get the first JPEG photo_data = *list_of_photos[0]; selectedPictureData = [NSData dataWithBytes:&photo_data length:sizeof(photo_data)]; [selectedPictureData writeToFile:@"/Users/username/Desktop/Photo 2.jpg" atomically:YES]; NSLog (@"%@", selectedPictureData); Has anyone successfully done this before or can anyone see what I might be doing wrong? I appreciate anyone's help. Sorry to post so many questions! Ricky.

  • Database design for sharing photos site?

    - by javaLearner.java
    I am using php and mysql. If I want to do a sharing photos website, whats the best database design for upload and display photos. This is what I have in mind: domain: |_> photos |_> user Logged in user will upload photo in [http://www.domain.com/user/upload.php] The photos are stored in filesystems, and the path-to-photos stored in database. So, in my photos folder would be like: photos/userA/subfolders+photos, photos/userB/subfolders+photos, photos/userC/subfolders+photos etc Public/others people may view his photo in: [http://www.domain.com/photos/user/?photoid=123] where 123 is the photoid, from there, I will query from database to fetch the path and display the image. My questions: Whats the best database design for photo-sharing website (like flickr)? Will there be any problems if I keep creating new folder in "photos" folder. What if hundreds of thousands users registered? Whats the best practices What size of photos should I keep? Currently I only stored thumbnail (100x100) and (max) 1600x1200 px photos. What others things I should take note when developing photos-sharing website?

  • Open source gravatar-like implementations?

    - by Tauren
    I'm already using gravatar icons for the users of my web service. However, I'm finding several problems with this approach: Only a small percentage of the users take the time to set up a gravatar profile. My users are not tech-savvy, but would be likely to add a dedicated photo to my site. Users of my service are encouraged to use images that depict them in proper uniform for the industry my service relates to. They wouldn't want that same picture to be used for personal purposes throughout the internet. They would not take the time or effort to manage a separate email address and gravatar account just to have an "in-uniform" profile photo for my service. Before I implement my own profile image feature, I was wondering if there are any open-source solutions that I could leverage with similar features to gravatar. Specifically: The ability to display any size thumbnail (up to 512px would be fine) Takes care of caching different sized thumbnails Has support for something like identicons, preferably pluggable with different style algorithms (monsters, etc.), even better if I can customize these Ability to fall-back to gravatar if no photo found Does anything like this exist? I haven't found it yet if it does.

  • How does jquery display an image received from an ajax request?

    - by Gnee
    I have this working great, but I'd like a deeper understanding of what is actually going on behind the scenes. I am using Jquery's Ajax method to pull 5 blog posts (returning only the title and first photo). A PHP script grabs the blog posts' title and first photo and sticks it in an array and sends it back to my browser as JSON. Upon receiving the JSON object, Jquery grabs the first member of the JSON object and displays it's title and photo. In a gallery I made, using buttons – the user can iterate the 1-5 posts. So the actual AJAX call happens right away, and only once. I am basically using this kind of setup: $('my_div').html(json_obj[i]) and each click does a i++. So jquery is plucking these blog posts from my computers memory, my web browsers cache, or some kind of cache in the Javascript engine? One of the things it's returning is a pretty gnarly animated gif. I just wonder if it constantly running in the background (but not visible), stealing processing cycles...etc. Or Javascript just inserting (say a flash movie) into the DOM, but before hand does nothing but take up a little memory (no processing). Anyway, I'm just curious. If someone is a guru on this, I'd love to hear your take. Thanks!!

Here is the jQuery I am trying to make work $(".edit").click(function() { var parent = $(this).parents('.item'); var caption = $(parent).find('.labelCaption').html(); $("#photoCaption").val(caption); $("#editCaptionDialog").dialog({ width: 450, bgiframe: true, resizable: false, modal: true, title: 'Edit Caption', overlay: { backgroundColor: '#000', opacity: 0.5 }, buttons: { 'Edit': function() { var newCaption = $("#photoCaption").val(); $(parent).find(".labelCaption").html(newCaption); $(parent).find('img').attr('alt', newCaption); } } }); return false; }); And the HTML <li class="item ui-corner-all" id="photo<? echo $images['id'];?>"> <div> <a href="http://tapp-essexvfd.org/gallery/photos/<?php echo $images['filename'];?>.jpg" class="lightbox" title="<?php echo $images['caption'];?>"> <img src="http://tapp-essexvfd.org/gallery/photos/thumbs/<?php echo $images['filename'];?>.jpg" alt="<?php echo $images['caption'];?>" class="photo ui-corner-all"/></a><br/> <p><span class="labelCaption"><?php echo $images['caption'];?> </span></p> <p><a href="edit_photo.php?filename=<?php echo $images['filename'];?>" class="button2 edit ui-state-default ui-corner-all">Edit</a></p> </div> </li> The caption is changing like it should.   • How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes

    - by Ben
    I'm restyling a certain page where I don't have access to all the source-HTML. So I'm left over with some hard to target elements within a page I need removed. For example the page is swamped with <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div>. To get rid of them I tried this in CSS: div[style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"] { display:none !important; } I'd like to fix this using CSS, because the the HTML that needs to be removed is updated using ajax. How do I target a div without a class or id but with all these specific style-attributes? Some more of the source-code (took a while to organize the parsed source): <div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760187/Le-Coq-Sportif-Angers-Low.html.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036303.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Angers-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760187/Le-Coq-Sportif-Angers-Low.html.html"> Le Coq Sportif Angers Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 89,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760185/Le-Coq-Sportif-Auveurne-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036301.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Auveurne-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760185/Le-Coq-Sportif-Auveurne-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Auveurne Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 79,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760191/Le-Coq-Sportif-Bordeaux-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036307.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Bordeaux-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760191/Le-Coq-Sportif-Bordeaux-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Bordeaux Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> </span> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760181/Le-Coq-Sportif-Cannet-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036297.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Cannet-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760181/Le-Coq-Sportif-Cannet-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Cannet Low </a> </span> <span class="Discount BigPhotoList_Discount" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 94,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760183/Le-Coq-Sportif-Rodez-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036299.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Rodez-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760183/Le-Coq-Sportif-Rodez-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Rodez Low </a> </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> </span> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px; border-right: 1px dashed #A0A0A0;" class="BigPhotoList_Stippel"></div> <div style="float: left; width: 10.25px; height: 284px;"></div> <span class="Block BigPhotoList_Block"> <span class="Photo BigPhotoList_Photo" style="height: 200px"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760189/Le-Coq-Sportif-Sedan-Low.html"> <span style="background-image:url(http://61955.static.securearea.eu/Files/2/61000/61955/ProductPhotos/MaxContent/144036305.jpg);" class="Canvas BigPhotoList_Canvas" title="Le-Coq-Sportif-Sedan-Low"></span> </a> </span> <span class="Title BigPhotoList_Title"> <a href="/Webwinkel-Product-83760189/Le-Coq-Sportif-Sedan-Low.html"> Le Coq Sportif Sedan Low </a> </span> <span class="Discount BigPhotoList_Discount" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 109,95 </span> <span class="Price BigPhotoList_Price" style="font-size: 120%;"> € 99,95 </span> </span> </div>

  • How do I perform a flip and grow animation like in iPhoto 09?

    - by Austin
    I'm developing a Cocoa application and want to be able to click a button in one of the views in my NSCollectionView and have a details view flip open and position to the middle of the screen like it does in iPhoto 09 when you click the "i" in the bottom-right hand corner of a photo. The photo "flips" and grows, centered on the window to reveal details about the photo. I'm guessing they're using Core Animation to achieve this. I've been looking at the Lemur Flip example, but when I try to modify it to add repositioning code to the animation, it throws off the flip. Here is the positioning code I've added to the - (IBAction)flip:(id)sender; code of LemurFlip: ... [CATransaction begin]; { NSSize supersize = contentView.frame.size; // Size of window content view NSSize subsize = frontView.frame.size; // Size of view we're flipping out if(!frontView.isHidden) { // Move views to middle of the window [[backView animator] setFrameOrigin:NSMakePoint((supersize.width / 2) - (subsize.width / 2), (supersize.height / 2) - (subsize.height / 2))]; [[frontView animator] setFrameOrigin:NSMakePoint((supersize.width / 2) - (subsize.width / 2), (supersize.height / 2) - (subsize.height / 2))]; } else { // Return views to point of origin [[backView animator] setFrameOrigin:NSMakePoint(0, 0)]; [[frontView animator] setFrameOrigin:NSMakePoint(0, 0)]; } [hiddenLayer addAnimation:[self _flipAnimationWithDuration:flipDuration isFront:NO] forKey:@"flipGroup"]; [visibleLayer addAnimation:[self _flipAnimationWithDuration:flipDuration isFront:YES] forKey:@"flipGroup"]; } [CATransaction commit]; ... Is there a good example of how to do this or some rules for combining these sort of animations?

  • Rails and SWFUpload: Sporadic Failure on Upload and Response Issue

    - by Gimli
    I've got SWFUpload version 2.5 beta 3 attached to my Rails 2.3.2 application and it works great 75% of the time. The other 25%, I get types of failure. The first failure is a failure to upload. The activity starts, but never actually sends the file to the servers. In my JS, when setting breakpoints, it stops between setting the post params and starting the upload (last two lines below): var params = { "authenticity_token": authToken, "photo[name]": $("#photo_name").val(), "photo[description]": $("#photo_description").val(), "photo[post_id]": $("#post_id").val() }; params[keyName] = key; swfu.setPostParams(params); swfu.startUpload(); It just occurred to me that the file might not being queued, but I've got a handler attached to show the file name in a text box and that works consistently. The second issue is this: Sometimes the response string is truncated. I'm rendering a partial in Rails without a layout to show the uploaded file data in my layout. Most of the time this partial comes through fine, but sometimes it comes through as only the first line, or only parts of the first several lines. The variables seem to be coming through into the view just fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Fetch the most viewed data in databases

    - by Erik Edgren
    I want to get the most viewed photo from the database but I don't know how I shall accomplish this. Here's my SQL at the moment: SELECT * FROM photos AS p, viewers AS v WHERE p.id = v.id_photo GROUP BY v.id_photo The databases: CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `photos` ( `id` int(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `photo_filename` varchar(50) NOT NULL, `photo_camera` varchar(150) NOT NULL, `photo_taken` datetime NOT NULL, `photo_resolution` varchar(10) NOT NULL, `photo_exposure` varchar(10) NOT NULL, `photo_iso` varchar(3) NOT NULL, `photo_fnumber` varchar(10) NOT NULL, `photo_focallength` varchar(10) NOT NULL, `post_coordinates` text NOT NULL, `post_description` text NOT NULL, `post_uploaded` datetime NOT NULL, `post_edited` datetime NOT NULL, `checkbox_approxcoor` enum('0','1') NOT NULL DEFAULT '0', PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `id` (`id`) ) CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `viewers` ( `id` int(10) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `id_photo` int(10) DEFAULT '0', `ipaddress` text NOT NULL, `date_viewed` datetime NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `id` (`id`) ) The data in viewers looks like this: (1, 85, '3892a0ab97d6ff325f285b27b847070f', '2012-06-21 22:49:25'), (2, 84, '3892a0ab97d6ff325f285b27b847070f', '2012-06-21 22:49:25'), (3, 85, '3892a0ab97d6ff325f285b27b847070f', '2012-06-21 22:49:25'); One single row from the database for photos to understand how the rows looks like in this database: (85, 'P1170986.JPG', 'Panasonic DMC-LX3', '2012-06-19 18:00:40', '3968x2232', '10/8000', '80', '50/10', '51/10', '', '', '2012-06-19 18:45:17', '0000-00-00 00:00:00', '0') At the moment the SQL only prints the photo with ID 84. In this case it's wrong - it should print out the photo with ID 85. How can I fix this problem? Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I'm trying to generate a feed rss from a model like this one, selecting all the Entry objects: from django.db import models from django.contrib.sites.models import Site from django.contrib.auth.models import User from imagekit.models import ImageModel import datetime class Entry(ImageModel): date_pub = models.DateTimeField(default=datetime.datetime.now) author = models.ForeignKey(User) via = models.URLField(blank=True) comments_allowed = models.BooleanField(default=True) icon = models.ImageField(upload_to='icon/',blank=True) class IKOptions: spec_module = 'journal.icon_specs' cache_dir = 'icon/resized' image_field = 'icon' class Post(Entry): title = models.CharField(max_length=200) description = models.TextField() slug = models.SlugField(unique=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.title class Photo(Entry): alt = models.CharField(max_length=200) description = models.TextField(blank=True) original = models.ImageField(upload_to='photo/') class IKOptions: spec_module = 'journal.photo_specs' cache_dir = 'photo/resized' image_field = 'original' def __unicode__(self): return self.alt class Quote(Entry): blockquote = models.TextField() cite = models.TextField(blank=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.blockquote When I use the render_to_response in my views I simply call: def get_journal_entries(request): entries = Entry.objects.all().order_by('-date_pub') return render_to_response('journal/entries.html', {'entries':entries}) And then I use a conditional template to render the right snippets of html: {% extends "base.html" %} {% block main %} <hr> {% for entry in entries %} {% if entry.post %}[...]{% endif %}[...] But I cannot do the same with the Feed Framework in django 1.2... Any suggestion, please?

  • Creating 1 page PDF of iPad Screen view - How?

    - by user314695
    Hi All, I've asked this question on a couple other forums and have had zero response, so I'm hoping someone here can help point me in the right direction. I have a pretty simple one screen application for my work. It's basically just a recreation of a 1 page paper report that has a company logo, some labels, a few text boxes and a scroll text box for the report. I need to be able to fill out the report then click a button to save it in a graphical form so I can fax, print or email it later. Currently, I'm just programmatically taking a screen capture and saving it to the photo's library (default for screen capture). Then I can just email it from photo's. This works ok, but is kind of hacky, at best. I've read through the new iPad 3.2 guide for creating PDF's (apparently it's supposed to be much easier than before) but I can not get it to work and I've spent countless hours on it now. I'm hoping someone has the answer for me. Alternatively, if anyone knows how I can redirect where the screen capture is stored (default is in the photo album) then maybe I can make that function work. If I could redirect the screen capture to store in my applications document folder, then I can use MFMailCompose to attach it to an email. Lastly, on a side note, does anyone know of a good way to capture a digital signature via touch. For instance, I'd love to have my users be able to just sign their name via touch at the bottom of the document before I convert to PDF or take a screen capture. Thanks in advance for your help. -Ray

  • Fetching only the first record in the table (via the view) without changing controller?

    - by bgadoci
    I am trying to only fetch the first record in my table for display. I am creating a site where a user can upload multiple images and attach to a post but I only want to display the first image view for each post. For further clarification posts belong_to projects. So when you are on the projects show page you see multiple posts. In this view I only want to display the first image for each post. Is there a way to do this in the view without affecting the controller (as later I want to allow users to browse all photos through the addition of a lightbox). Here is my /views/posts/_post.html.erb code: <% div_for post do %> <% post.photos.each do | photo | %> <%= image_tag(photo.data.url(:large), :alt => '') %> <%= photo.description %> <% end unless post.photos.first.new_record? rescue nil %> <%= link_to h(post.link_title), post.link %> <%= h(post.description) %> <%= link_to 'Manage this post', edit_post_path(post) %> <% end %> UPDATE: I am using a photos model to attach multiple photos to each post and using paperclip here.

  • NSManagedObject How To Reload

    - by crissag
    I have a view that consists of a table of existing objects and an Add button, which allows the user to create a new object. When the user presses Add, the object is created in the list view controller, so that the object will be part of that managed object context (via the NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName: method). The Add view has a property for the managed object. In the list view controller, I create an Add view controller, set the property to the managed object I created, and then push the Add view on to the navigation stack. In the Add view, I have two buttons for save and cancel. In the save, I save the managed object and pass the managed object back to the list view controller via a delegate method. If the user cancels, then I delete the object and pass nil back to the list view controller. The complication I am having in the add view is related to a UIImagePickerController. In the Add view, I have a button which allows the user to take a photo of the object (or use an existing photo from the photo library). However, the process of transferring to the UIImagePickerController and having the user use the camera, is resulting in a didReceiveMemoryWarning in the add view controller. Further, the view was unloaded, which also caused my NSManagedObject to get clobbered. My question is, how to you go about reloading the NSManagedObject in the case where it was released because of the low memory situation?

  • Top 10 Reasons SQL Developer is Perfect for Oracle Beginners

    - by thatjeffsmith
    Learning new technologies can be daunting. If you’ve never used a Mac before, you’ll probably be a bit baffled at first. But, you’re probably at least coming from a desktop computing background (Windows), so you common frame of reference. But what if you’re just now learning to use a relational database? Yes, you’ve played with Access a bit, but now your employer or college instructor has charged you with becoming proficient with Oracle database. Here’s 10 reasons why I think Oracle SQL Developer is the perfect vehicle to help get you started. 1. It’s free No need to break into one of these… No start-up costs, no need to wrangle budget dollars from your company. Students don’t have any money after books and lab fees anyway. And most employees don’t like having to ask for ‘special’ software anyway. So avoid all of that and make sure the free stuff doesn’t suit your needs first. Upgrades are available on a regular base, also at no cost, and support is freely available via our public forums. 2. It will run pretty much anywhere Windows – check. OSX (Apple) – check. Unix – check. Linux – check. No need to start up a windows VM to run your Windows-only software in your lab machine. 3. Anyone can install it There’s no installer, no registry to be updated, no admin privs to be obtained. If you can download and extract files to your machine or USB storage device, you can run it. You can be up and running with SQL Developer in under 5 minutes. Here’s a video tutorial to see how to get started. 4. It’s ubiquitous I admit it, I learned a new word yesterday and I wanted an excuse to use it. SQL Developer’s everywhere. It’s had over 2,500,000 downloads in the past year, and is the one of the most downloaded items from OTN. This means if you need help, there’s someone sitting nearby you that can assist, and since they’re in the same tool as you, they’ll be speaking the same language. 5. Simple User Interface Up-up-down-down-Left-right-left-right-A-B-A-B-START will get you 30 lives, but you already knew that, right? You connect, you see your objects, you click on your objects. Or, you can use the worksheet to write your queries and programs in. There’s only one toolbar, and just a few buttons. If you’re like me, video games became less fun when each button had 6 action items mapped to it. I just want the good ole ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘SELECT’, and ‘START’ controls. If you’re new to Oracle, you shouldn’t have the double-workload of learning a new complicated tool as well. 6. It’s not a ‘black box’ Click through your objects, but also get the SQL that drives the GUI As you use the wizards to accomplish tasks for you, you can view the SQL statement being generated on your behalf. Just because you have a GUI, doesn’t mean you’re ceding your responsibility to learn the underlying code that makes the database work. 7. It’s four tools in one It’s not just a query tool. Maybe you need to design a data model first? Or maybe you need to migrate your Sybase ASE database to Oracle for a new project? Or maybe you need to create some reports? SQL Developer does all of that. So once you get comfortable with one part of the tool, the others will be much easier to pick up as your needs change. 8. Great learning resources available Videos, blogs, hands-on learning labs – you name it, we got it. Why wait for someone to train you, when you can train yourself at your own pace? 9. You can use it to teach yourself SQL Instead of being faced with the white-screen-of-panic, you can visually build your queries by dragging and dropping tables and views into the Query Builder. Yes, ‘just like Access’ – only better. And as you build your query, toggle to the Worksheet panel and see the SQL statement. Again, SQL Developer is not a black box. If you prefer to learn by trial and error, the worksheet will attempt to suggest the next bit of your SQL statement with it’s completion insight feature. And if you have syntax errors, those will be highlighted – just like your misspelled words in your favorite word processor. 10. It scales to match your experience level You won’t be a n00b forever. In 6-8 months, when you’re ready to tackle something a bit more complicated, like XML DB or Oracle Spatial, the tool is already there waiting on you. No need to go out and find the ‘advanced’ tool. 11. Wait, you said this was a ‘Top 10′ list? Yes. Yes, I did. I’m using this ‘trick’ to get you to continue reading because I’m going to say something you might not want to hear. Are you ready? Tools won’t replace experience, failure, hard work, and training. Just because you have the keys to the car, doesn’t mean you’re ready to head out on the race track. While SQL Developer reduces the barriers to entry, it does not completely remove them. Many experienced folks simply do not like tools. Rather, they don’t like the people that pick up tools without the know-how to properly use them. If you don’t understand what ‘TRUNCATE’ means, don’t try it out. Try picking up a book first. Of course, it’s very nice to have your own sandbox to play in, so you don’t upset the other children. That’s why I really like our Dev Days Database Virtual Box image. It’s your own database to learn and experiment with.

  • Who IS Brian Solis?

    - by Michael Snow
    Q: Brian, Welcome to the WebCenter Blog. Can you tell our readers your current role and what career path brought you here? A: I’m proudly serving as a principal analyst at Altimeter Group, a research based advisory firm in Silicon Valley. My career path, well, let’s just say it’s a long and winding road. As a kid, I was fascinated with technology. I learned programming at an early age and found myself naturally drawn to all things tech. I started my career as a database programmer at a technology marketing agency in Southern California. When I saw the chance to work with tech companies and help them better market their capabilities to businesses and consumers, I switched focus from programming to marketing and advertising. As technologist, my approach to marketing was different. I didn’t believe in hype, fluff or buzz words. I believed in translating features into benefits and specifications and capabilities into solutions for real world problems and opportunities. In the mid 90’s I experimented with direct to consumer/customer engagement in dedicated technology forums and boards. I quickly realized that the entire approach to do so would need to change. Therefore, I learned and developed new methods for a more social and informed way of engaging people in ways that helped them, marketed the company, and also tied to tangible benefits for the company. This work would lead me to start an agency in 1999 dedicated to interactive marketing. As I continued to experiment with interactive platforms, I developed interesting methods for converting one-to-many forms of media into one-to-one-to-many programs. I ran that company until joining Altimeter Group. Along the way, in the early 2000s, I realized that everything was changing and that there were others like me finding success in what would become a more social form of media. I dedicated a significant amount of my time to sharing everything that I learned in the form of articles, blogs, and eventually books. My mission became to share my experience with anyone who’d listen. It would later become much bigger than marketing, this would lead to a decade of work, that still continues, in business transformation. Then and now, I find myself always assuming the role of a student. Q: As an industry analyst & technology change evangelist, what are you primarily focused on these days? A: As a digital analyst, I study how disruptive technology impacts business. As an aspiring social scientist, I study how technology affects human behavior. I explore both horizons professionally and personally to better understand the future of popular culture and also the opportunities that exist for organizations to improve relationships and experiences with customers and the people that are important to them. Q: People cite that the line between work and life is getting more and more blurred. Do you see your personal life influencing your professional work? A: The line between work and life isn’t blurred it’s been overtly crossed and erased. We live in an always on society. The digital lifestyle keeps us connected to one another it keeps us connected all the time. Whether your sending or checking email, trying to catch up, or simply trying to get ahead, people are spending the equivalent of an extra day at work in the time they spend out of work…working. That’s absurd. It’s a matter of survival. It’s also a matter of unintended, subconscious self-causation. We brought this on ourselves and continue to do so. Think about your day. You’re in meetings for the better part of each day. You probably spend evenings and weekends catching up on email and actually doing the work you couldn’t get to during the day. And, your co-workers and executives are doing the same thing. So if you try to slow down, you find yourself at a disadvantage as you’re willfully pulling yourself out of an unfortunate culture of whenever wherever business dynamics. If you’re unresponsive or unreachable, someone within your organization or on your team is accessible. Over time, this could contribute to unfavorable impressions. I choose to steer my life balance in ways that complement one another. But, I don’t pretend to have this figured out by any means. In fact, I find myself swimming upstream like those around me. It’s essentially a competition for relevance and at some point I’ll learn how to earn attention and relevance while redrawing the line between work and life. Q: How can people keep up with what you’re working on? A: The easy answer is that people can keep up with me at briansolis.com. But, I also try to reach people where their attention is focused. Whether it’s Facebook (facebook.com/briansolis), Twitter (@briansolis), Google+ (+briansolis), Youtube (briansolis.tv) or through books and conferences, people can usually find me in a place of their choosing. Q: Recently, you’ve been working with us here at Oracle on something exciting coming up later this week. What’s on the horizon? A: I spent some time with the Oracle team reviewing the idea of Digital Darwinism and how technology and society are evolving faster than many organizations can adapt. Digital Darwinism: How Brands Can Survive the Rapid Evolution of Society and Technology Thursday, December 13, 2012, 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET Q: You’ve been very actively pursued for media interviews and conference and company speaking engagements – anything you’d like to share to give us a sneak peak of what to expect on Thursday’s webcast? A: We’re inviting guests to join us online as we dive into the future of business and how the convergence of technology and connected consumerism would ultimately impact how business is done. It’ll be an exciting and revealing conversation that explores just how much everything is changing. We’ll also review the importance of adapting to emergent trends and how to compete for the future. It’s important to recognize that change is not happening to us, it’s happening because of us. We are part of the revolution and therefore we need to help organizations adapt from the inside out. • Enhanced REST Support in Oracle Service Bus 11gR1

    - by jeff.x.davies
    In a previous entry on REST and Oracle Service Bus (see http://blogs.oracle.com/jeffdavies/2009/06/restful_services_with_oracle_s_1.html) I encoded the REST query string really as part of the relative URL. For example, consider the following URI: http://localhost:7001/SimpleREST/Products/id=1234 Now, technically there is nothing wrong with this approach. However, it is generally more common to encode the search parameters into the query string. Take a look at the following URI that shows this principle http://localhost:7001/SimpleREST/Products?id=1234 At first blush this appears to be a trivial change. However, this approach is more intuitive, especially if you are passing in multiple parameters. For example: http://localhost:7001/SimpleREST/Products?cat=electronics&subcat=television&mfg=sony The above URI is obviously used to retrieve a list of televisions made by Sony. In prior versions of OSB (before 11gR1PS3), parsing the query string of a URI was more difficult than in the current release. In 11gR1PS3 it is now much easier to parse the query strings, which in turn makes developing REST services in OSB even easier. In this blog entry, we will re-implement the REST-ful Products services using query strings for passing parameter information. Lets begin with the implementation of the Products REST service. This service is implemented in the Products.proxy file of the project. Lets begin with the overall structure of the service, as shown in the following screenshot. This is a common pattern for REST services in the Oracle Service Bus. You implement different flows for each of the HTTP verbs that you want your service to support. Lets take a look at how the GET verb is implemented. This is the path that is taken of you were to point your browser to: http://localhost:7001/SimpleREST/Products/id=1234 There is an Assign action in the request pipeline that shows how to extract a query parameter. Here is the expression that is used to extract the id parameter: $inbound/ctx:transport/ctx:request/http:query-parameters/http:parameter[@name="id"]/@value The Assign action that stores the value into an OSB variable named id. Using this type of XPath statement you can query for any variables by name, without regard to their order in the parameter list. The Log statement is there simply to provided some debugging info in the OSB server console. The response pipeline contains a Replace action that constructs the response document for our rest service. Most of the response data is static, but the ID field that is returned is set based upon the query-parameter that was passed into the REST proxy. Testing the REST service with a browser is very simple. Just point it to the URL I showed you earlier. However, the browser is really only good for testing simple GET services. The OSB Test Console provides a much more robust environment for testing REST services, no matter which HTTP verb is used. Lets see how to use the Test Console to test this GET service. Open the OSB we console (http://localhost:7001/sbconsole) and log in as the administrator. Click on the Test Console icon (the little "bug") next to the Products proxy service in the SimpleREST project. This will bring up the Test Console browser window. Unlike SOAP services, we don't need to do much work in the request document because all of our request information will be encoded into the URI of the service itself. Belore the Request Document section of the Test Console is the Transport section. Expand that section and modify the query-parameters and http-method fields as shown in the next screenshot. By default, the query-parameters field will have the tags already defined. You just need to add a tag for each parameter you want to pass into the service. For out purposes with this particular call, you'd set the quer-parameters field as follows: <tp:parameter name="id" value="1234" /> </tp:query-parameters> Now you are ready to push the Execute button to see the results of the call. That covers the process for parsing query parameters using OSB. However, what if you have an OSB proxy service that needs to consume a REST-ful service? How do you tell OSB to pass the query parameters to the external service? In the sample code you will see a 2nd proxy service called CallREST. It invokes the Products proxy service in exactly the same way it would invoke any REST service. Our CallREST proxy service is defined as a SOAP service. This help to demonstrate OSBs ability to mediate between service consumers and service providers, decreasing the level of coupling between them. If you examine the message flow for the CallREST proxy service, you'll see that it uses an Operational branch to isolate processing logic for each operation that is defined by the SOAP service. We will focus on the getProductDetail branch, that calls the Products REST service using the HTTP GET verb. Expand the getProduct pipeline and the stage node that it contains. There is a single Assign statement that simply extracts the productID from the SOA request and stores it in a local OSB variable. Nothing suprising here. The real work (and the real learning) occurs in the Route node below the pipeline. The first thing to learn is that you need to use a route node when calling REST services, not a Service Callout or a Publish action. That's because only the Routing action has access to the $oubound variable, especially when invoking a business service. The Routing action contains 3 Insert actions. The first Insert action shows how to specify the HTTP verb as a GET. The second insert action simply inserts the XML node into the request. This element does not exist in the request by default, so we need to add it manually. Now that we have the element defined in our outbound request, we can fill it with the parameters that we want to send to the REST service. In the following screenshot you can see how we define the id parameter based on the productID value we extracted earlier from the SOAP request document. That expression will look for the parameter that has the name id and extract its value. That's all there is to it. You now know how to take full advantage of the query parameter parsing capability of the Oracle Service Bus 11gR1PS2. Download the sample source code here: rest2_sbconfig.jar Ubuntu and the OSB Test Console You will get an error when you try to use the Test Console with the Oracle Service Bus, using Ubuntu (or likely a number of other Linux distros also). The error (shown below) will state that the Test Console service is not running. The fix for this problem is quite simple. Open up the WebLogic Server administrator console (usually running at http://localhost:7001/console). In the Domain Structure window on the left side of the console, select the Servers entry under the Environment heading. The select the Admin Server entry in the main window of the console. By default, you should be viewing the Configuration tabe and the General sub tab in the main window. Look for the Listen Address field. By default it is blank, which means it is listening on all interfaces. For some reason Ubuntu doesn't like this. So enter a value like localhost or the specific IP address or DNS name for your server (usually its just localhost in development envirionments). Save your changes and restart the server. Your Test Console will now work correctly.

  • Building Great-Looking, Usable Apps: A two-day workshop applying Oracle’s best UX practices in ADF

    - by mvaughan
    By Misha Vaughan, Oracle Applications User ExperienceI have been with Oracle for more than 12 years. It is a company that has granted me extraordinary creative freedom to help deliver compelling experiences for customers.I am beyond proud to talk about one of the experiences we just took for a test drive. Recently, we delivered a first-of-its-kind, three-team collaboration, train-the-trainer event in Reading, U.K., on building great-looking, usable apps based on Oracle Fusion Applications -- using the ADF tool kit. A new kind of workshopKevin Li, Platform Product Director, asked the Oracle Applications User Experience VP, Jeremy Ashley, if the team had anything to help partners and customers build applications that looked like Fusion. He was receiving this request from European partners and customers.Some quick conversations ensued, and the idea for the workshop was born: We would conduct an experiment.  We would work with feedback from the key Platform Technology Solutions (PTS) trainers under Andre Pavanello, Director, Platform Technology Solutions, in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. We would partner with the ADF team lead by Grant Ronald, Director of Product Management, title> and leverage the Applications UX expertise in Ashley’s team.The goal: Create a pilot workshop that in two days would explain to an ADF developer how to leverage the next-generation user experience best-practices developed for Fusion Apps. Why? Customers who need integrations with Oracle Fusion Applications, who are looking for custom applications that need to co-exist with Fusion, or who quite simply want a next-generation design for a custom app, need their solutions to reflect the next-generation research and design.Building an event for an ADF developerThe biggest hurdle was figuring out where to start.  How far into user experience country do you take an ADF developer? How far into ADF do you need to go if you are a UX professional?After some time in the UX kitchen, the workshop recipe looked like this: Mix equal parts: Fusion user experience design principles and functional design patterns The art and science behind UX How to wireframe designs that you can build in Fusion How to translate those designs into an ADF application Ultan O’Broin, Director of Global User Experience, explaining the trouble ticket wireframe design exerciseLynn Munsinger, Senior Group Product Manager, explaining the follow-on trouble ticket ADF coding exercise For spice, add:•    Debra Lilley, Fujitsu and ACE director, showcasing some of the latest ADF design work in the new face of Fusion Applications •    Partner show-and-tell of example apps they have built with FMW and ADF that are dynamic, beautiful, and interactive.Debra Lilley, Oracle ACE Director and Fujitsu Fusion Champion on the new face of Fusion built with ADF and Fusion extensibility with composers as a window into “the possible”?The taste testThis first go-round of the workshop was aimed squarely at ADF developers and partners.  We were privileged to have participation and feedback from:•    Sten Vesterli, Scott/Tiger S. A., Denmark•    John Sim, Fishbowl Solutions, UK•    Josef Huber, Primus Delphi Group, Munich•    Thaddaus Weindl, Primus Delphi, Group , Munich•    Praveen Pillalamarri, EiS Technologies, Bangalore•    Balaji Kamepalli, EiS Technologies, Bangalore•    Plinio Arbizu, Services & Processes Solutions S. A., Mexico•    Yannick Ongena, infoMENTUM, UK•    Jakub Ciszek, infoMENTUM, UK•    Mauro Flores, infoMENTUM, UK•    Matteo Formica, infoMENTUM, UKRichard Bingham, Oracle, Mauro Flores and Matteo Formica, infoMENTUMWhy is this so exciting?  Oracle has invested heavily in the research and development of the Oracle Fusion Applications user experience. This investment has been and continues to be applied across the product lines. Now, we finally get to teach customers and partners how to take advantage of this investment for custom solutions.This event was a pilot to test-drive the content, as well as a train-the-trainer event that our EMEA colleagues will be using with partners who want to build with Fusion Apps design patterns.What did attendees think?"I liked most the science stuff, like eye-tracking, design patterns and best-practice (color, contrast),” Josef Huber said. “It was a very good introduction to UI design, and most developers and project managers are very bad in that.  So this course would be good for all developers and even project managers." Team Anonymous: John Sim, Fishbowl Solutions, Flavius Sana, Oracle, Josef Huber, infoMENTUM, Mireille Duroussaud, Oracle. Winners of the wireframing design exercise.  Sten Vesterli, of Scott/Tiger, said he attended to learn techniques he could use in his own projects. He wants to ensure that his applications better meet the needs of his users, and he said sessions during the workshop on user interface design and wireframing were most useful to him.  “Go to this event to learn the art and science of good user interfaces from people who really know how to do it,” he said.Sten Vesterli, Scott/Tiger, Angelo Santagata, Oracle Plinio Arbizu said the workshop fulfilled his goals, thanks to the recommendations given in how to design user interfaces to facilitate the adoption of applications among the final users. “The workshop combined these recommendations with an exercise that improved the technical comprehension, permitting the usage of JDeveloper to set forth our solutions,” he said. He added: “The first session that I really enjoyed was the five Fusion design principles. It was incredible to discover how these simple principles were included in an inherit manner in Fusion Applications, and I had been using many of them applying only ADF components.  Another topic that I enjoyed a lot was the eight recommendations about the visual design of UIs. The issues that were raised in that lesson are unknown to the developers and of great value to achieve an attractive presentation layer to the end users.  Participate in this workshop, and include these usability features in your projects and in this manner not only to facilitate and improve the user productivity, but also to distinguish you as a professional who takes advantage fully of the functionalities offered by Oracle technology. Praveen Pillalamarri came to the workshop to learn about the difficulties faced in UI and UX development, and how this can be resolved with the help of ADF.  He also appreciated the opportunity to talk with other individuals who came to the workshop. Pillalmarri said, “The way we looked at things in terms of work and projects were sharpened.  UI and UX design knowledge shared by you was quite interesting, especially the minute things which we ignored in the UI or UX design.” Plinio Arbizu, Services & Processes Solutions S.
