  • How to let a guest user start their workflow and prompt registration when they try to save their wor

    I'm wondering what I would do to go about letting a guest use my web application without registering, then if they attempt to save their work they are prompted with a registration. This will be in a rails application by the way. Can I just allow public access to part of the work flow, then when they save check if they're a registered user (by session value, or cookie?). If they aren't a registered user, save all their work into the session and let them fill out a sign out form. On successful registration automatically log them in and initiate the create on the db?

  • Is it safe to display user input as input values without sanitation?

    Say we have a form where the user types in various info. We validate the info, and find that something is wrong. A field is missing, invalid email, et cetera. When displaying the form to the user again I of course don't want him to have to type in everything again so I want to populate the input fields. Is it safe to do this without sanitation? If not, what is the minimum sanitation that should be done first? And to clearify: It would of course be sanitized before being for example added to a database or displayed elsewhere on the site.

    Hello, I'm still a fairly novice programmer and I have a question about c++ memory management with refence types. First of all, my understanding of reference types: A pointer is put on the stack and the actual data that the pointer points to is created and placed on the heap. Standard arrays and user defined classes are refence types. Is this correct? Second, my main question is do c and c++'s memory management mechanisms (malloc, free and new, delete) always handle this properly and free the memory that a class or array is pointing to? Does everything still work if those pointers get reassigned somehow to other objects of the same size/type on the heap? What if a class has a pointer member that points to another object? I am assuming that delete/freeing the class object doesn't free what it's member pointer points to, is that correct? Thanks all! -R

    I'm trying to interface a C++ library (pHash) with Python using Cython, but I have trouble with some of the types. The library functions use "unsigned long long" and I can't find a way to declare variables and parameters with this type. I searched for a list of the types that I can use with cdef but I found nothing. Can anyone point me to such a list (if it exists) or otherwise suggest a way to use 64 bit types in Cython? Thanks.

    Been looking around the net and can't find any articles about how value types are actually implemented. For instance, an Int32 is a struct and it's direct parent is System.ValueType and that's ultimate parent is System.Object. Object is a class - I imagine ValueType is a class? What's the class hierarchy? What part does the CLR have to play? At what stage and how does the CLR know to allocate value types to the stack? (FYI, I am aware that value types are stored where they are declared).

    In Javascript, we can call methods on string literals directly without enclosing it within round brackets. But not for other types such as numbers, or functions. It is a syntax error, but is there a reason as to why the Javascript lexer needs these other types to be enclosed in round brackets? For example, if we extend Number, String, and Function with an alert method and try calling this method on the literals, it's a SyntaxError for Number and Function, while it works for a String. function alertValue() { alert(this); } Number.prototype.alert = alertValue; String.prototype.alert = alertValue; Function.prototype.alert = alertValue; We can call alert directly on a string object: "someStringLiteral".alert() // alerts someStringLiteral but it's a SyntaxError on numbers, and functions. 7.alert(); function() {}.alert(); To work with these types, we have to enclose it within brackets: (7).alert(); // alerts "7" (function() {}).alert(); // alerts "function() {}"

    What is the best way to have an associative array with arbitrary value types for each key in C++? Currently my plan is to create a "value" class with member variables of the types I will be expecting. For example: class Value { int iValue; Value(int v) { iValue = v; } std::string sValue; Value(std::string v) { sValue = v; } SomeClass *cValue; Value(SomeClass *v) { cValue = c; } }; std::map<std::string, Value> table; A downside with this is you have to know the type when accessing the "Value". i.e.: table["something"] = Value(5); SomeClass *s = table["something"].cValue; // broken pointer Also the more types that are put in Value, the more bloated the array will be. Any better suggestions?

User should create a column of following types Text, Number, Currency, Combo Box, Check Box, Radio Button ,Date time type (should display DateTimePicker control) and Hyper Link type. After that i want to pass all rows to next screen for further processing. We can create a column of these types in a grid view but how can i store it in a data table so that i can pass it to next screen. Or should i create a column in a data table and then assign data table to grid view by gridview.DataSource = dt; but can we create a these types of columns in a data table. I am so confused!!   • How to keep track of user images when using a CDN? [closed]

    We are considering moving our user profile images from the local server to the Rackspace CDN (Cloud Files). However, how do you keep track of where each user's profile image is located on the CDN? Wouldn't you have to store the CDN URL for each user image in the local Database and query it every time you display a user image? Isn't that slower than accessing a user image directly on the local server which requires no such DB query to retrieve since you already know where it is stored based on the user's User ID? What if a user has an album of pics? How would you keep track of all those images that belong just to that one user? What about the order of those pics? In the case of the Rackspace CDN, we're looking at using a Container for each individual user to help keep things more logically organized, but we don't know what the best way to track all of it is since the CDN provides a seemingly random URL for each image. To make matters worse, you can't even delete a non-empty Container belonging to a user when they delete their account, you actually have to delete each object inside the Container one-by-one before deleting the Container itself. It doesn't end there, you can't even have nested Containers or "sub-folders", and you can't rename a file (you must copy it with a new name and delete the old one manually). It just sounds so incredibly more complicated then we thought it would be, and it certainly does not feel "intuitive" compared to local storage, so we don't know what to do. Please help.

    Hello, I am trying to write a script which includes disk defragmentation as one of its steps. defrag needs administrative rights to work. I tried to use runas /user:Administrator, but it always asked me for password (even though there isn't one set). The script needs to run unattended for a long time, and it needs to be started from standard user account (it is actually being run by cygwin), so I'd like to get rid of that prompt.     I’ve set up ten Windows 7 user accounts, so that I can test different versions of Google Chrome*. I’ve named the accounts “Chrome 01”, “Chrome 02”, and so on. Ideally, I’d like the accounts sorted on the login screen by Chrome version, which is why I added the leading zero to the version number (assuming it was an alphabetic sort). However, when I created the “Chrome 10” account, it ended up sorted between “Chrome 01” and “Chrome 02”. What is going on? *(Chrome installs are user-account-specific)

  • iPhone core data problem : referenceData64 only defined for abstract class

    I have an application that downloads/parses a big XML file and store the information using core data (approx. 4000 objects (entities)). The XML is loaded/parsed in a different thread, which has its own NSManagedObjectContext. I have a simple integer to keep track of the entities the application creates compared to the insertedObjects property in the NSManagedObjectContext before saving, and when I get the error, these numbers do not match, insertedObjects in the NSManagedObjectContext is missing about 10 entities.   • fortran 90 user defined type, passing by value ?

    I have an issue in fortran 90. I have a user defined type and when I call one of the MPI subroutines the data looks to be passed by values (not address, as I thought it should). The output arguments aren't modified. It seems to be specific to the MPI calls I tried the same thing in a simple test, and I can change the passed in values in the calling scope. I'm not sure why this is because I thought fortran always pass by address. Any idea what could be going on? Just to be clear the commented snippet shows how the calls are made. The in the first call, c%NSubDomains, is an output argument and should be modified in the calling scope, but its not. WHen I call with an array rather than a member of user defined type it works, in the uncommented snippet. ! !     Note: i edited my Q (in the title) so that it better reflects what i actually want to know. In the original title and in the text of my Q, i referred to the source of the thrown exception; what i meant, and what i should have referred to, as pointed out in one of the high-strung but otherwise helpful response below, is the module that the exception class is defined in. This is evidenced by the fact that, again, as pointed out in one of the answers below the answer to the original Q is that the exceptions were thrown from calls to cursor.execute and cursor.next, respectively--which of course, isn't the information you need to write the try/except block. For instance (the Q has nothing specifically to do with SQLite or the PySQLite module): from pysqlite2 import dbapi2 as SQ try: cursor.execute('CREATE TABLE pname (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHARS(50)') except SQ.OperationalError: print("{0}, {1}".format("table already exists", "... [And yes i am aware there's a nearly identical question on SO--but for C# rather than python, plus if you read the author's edited version, you'll see he's got a different problem in mind.]

  • Swig: No Constructor defined

    I added %allowexcept to my *.i file when building a Python <-- C++ bridge using Swig. Then I removed that preprocessing directive. Now I can't get the Python produced code to recognize the constructor of a C++ class. It never did this before I added the %allowexception and now that I've removed it, I can't get it to create a real constructor. All the other classes have actual constructors. Quite baffled.     Hi, I m very new to ocaml and i m facing the problem below, In a.ml a record type t is defined and is also defined transparently in a.mli, i.e. in d interface so that the type definition is available to all other files. a.ml also has a function, func, which returns a list of t. Now in another file, b.ml i m calling func, now obviously ocaml compiler wud nt be able to infer d type of objects stored in d list, for compiler its just a list. so in b.ml, i hav something like dis, let tlist = A.func in let vart = List.hd tlist in printf "%s\n" vart.name (name is a field in record t) Now here i get a compiler error sayin "Unbound record field label name" which makes sense as compiler can't infer d type of vart. my first question: how do I explicitly provide d type of vart as t here? i tried doing "let vart:A.t = " but got the same error. I also tried creating another function to fetch the first element of d list and mentioning return type as A.t, but then i got the "Unbound value A.t". I did this: let firstt = function [] - 0 | x :: _ - A.t x ;; The problem is compiler is unable to recognize A.t (a type) in b.ml but is able to recognize function A.func. If I remove A.t from the b.ml, i don'get any compiler errors. Please help, its urgent work. Thanks in advance! ~Tarun

  • ASP.NET web setup class is not defined

    Hi, I've got an ASP.NET application that I installed by creating a web setup. I ran into a problem where ASP.NET wasn't registered with IIS so it gave me a "installation was interrupted" message that told me exactly nothing. Anyhow, I finally got it installed, and I can access the main page, but it's telling me that my class isn't defined. The dll is in the same directory as the Default.aspx page Here's the main error information Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'SIValidator.SIValidator' is not defined.   • C++ Switch won't compile with externally defined variable used as case

    I'm writing C++ using the MinGW GNU compiler and the problem occurs when I try to use an externally defined integer variable as a case in a switch statement. I get the following compiler error: "case label does not reduce to an integer constant". Because I've defined the integer variable as extern I believe that it should compile, does anyone know what the problem may be? Below is an example: test.cpp #include <iostream> #include "x_def.h" int main() { std::cout << "Main Entered" << std::endl; switch(0) { case test_int: std::cout << "Case X" << std::endl; break; default: std::cout << "Case Default" << std::endl; break; } return 0; } x_def.h extern const int test_int; x_def.cpp const int test_int = 0; This code will compile correctly on Visual C++ 2008. Furthermore a Montanan friend of mine checked the ISO C++ standard and it appears that any const-integer expression should work. Is this possibly a compiler bug or have I missed something obvious?   • Android: Defined array resource not found ?!

    Hi, i have a strange (?) error in my android application. I have defined some arrays in values/arrays.xml the following way: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <resources> <array name="perimeter"> <item>10 miles</item> <item>20 miles</item> <item>30 miles</item> </array> <array name="regvalues"> <item>1</item> <item>2</item> <item>3</item> </array> </resources> Now I want to use them in a ListPreference for a PreferenceActivity (defined by an xml file). So i set android:entries="@array/perimeter" android:entryValues="@array/regvalues" for this ListPreference. When I try to use this on my device the app crashes. (NullPointer in Dialog.close()) If I try to use the regvalues-items as Entries for the ListPreference i get a NullPointer in ArrayAdapter.createViewFromResource(int, View, ViewGroup, int) line: 355 So there seems to be sth wrong with the regvalues array. But what ?!? Eclipse shows me no errors at compile time. So everything in the xml-file and java-code is written correctly and there are no typos. Where is the problem?!?

There are always maximum of 9 tickets. The user either has a ticket or an overflow but here can be only overflow per user. I am having issue pivoting the data in Ticket column to pre-defined field names like Ticket1, Ticket2...
