• Use Twitter in Windows Media Center with TwitterMCE

  Are you a Media Center user who just can’t get enough Twitter? If so, you may want to check out the TwitterMCE plugin for Windows Media Center. Download and install TwitterMCE application. (See download link below) When you start Windows Media Center, you’ll find the TwitterMCE icon listed in the Extras. When you open the plug-in you’ll be prompted for a Paypal donation and have to wait out the 15 second timer. Next, you’ll need to log in to your Twitter account. Enter your Twitter account username and password. You can do this with the keyboard or by entering letters and numbers with a Media Center remote. When you are finished, select the Login button.   You’ll be prompted to select Standard or Video Mode. Standard displays items in a more vertical fashion. Video displays them horizontally and one at a time, and also allows you to watch Live TV, a movie, or video at the same time. Reading Your Tweets Clicking on Home allows you to read the latest Twitter messages from your friends. You can access the previous 20 tweets. Scroll up and down to see additional messages in Standard mode, ro right and left in Video mode. Click on the individual Twitter messages to get more information, such as which friend sent the tweet. Create a Tweet To Create a Tweet directly from Media Center, select the Update button. Type out your message using your keyboard or your remote and the on-screen keyboard. When you are finished, select Update to send your Twitter message. A few moments later your new tweet will appear.   To send a tweet while you are watching TV or a video, log in to the TwitterMCE app, choose the Video mode, and select Update.   Enter your tweet with the remote or keyboard. Select Update to send the tweet.   You can also view Mentions, Friends, and Followers selecting the appropriate button.   Scroll through your list of friends to read their latest tweets.   The TwitterMCE plugin works will Windows Vista Premium, Ultimate, and Windows 7. It might not completely replace your favorite Twitter App, but it will allow you to send all the tweets you want without having to take your eyes off your favorite TV programs. • How to Get Windows 7 Theme Wallpapers Without Installing Them

  Are you using an older version of Windows but like the Windows 7 theme wallpapers? What if you have Windows 7 but you don’t want to install the themes just to get the wallpapers? Here is how to get them without having to install themes. This guest article was written by Ryan Dozier from the Doztech tech blog. Getting the Wallpaper on XP, Vista, or Windows 7 First download and install 7-zip on your machine (link below). After you’ve installed 7-zip, download a Windows 7 theme (link below) and right-click on the theme, select 7-Zip, and Extract to “Theme Name”… A new folder will appear with the theme name on it. When you open it, there will be a folder called DesktopBackground or something similar.   Open the folder to get the wallpapers to view the wallpapers for the theme. You can delete the extra files and just keep the wallpapers!   Getting the Wallpaper on Ubuntu Extracting the wallpaper on Ubuntu can be a little tricky. Just follow these steps and you will be able to do it. First go to the Ubuntu Software Center under the Applications menu. Search for 7zip and click on the arrow to go to the applications menu. Find the Install button and click it. It will take a couple of minutes for 7zip to install. After 7zip installs, close the Ubuntu Software Center and download a Windows 7 theme. Store it somewhere you can access it quickly. Right-click on the theme and select Rename and get rid of the themepack extension and replace it with zip. The file should be “Theme Name.zip” after you rename it. Right-click on the theme and click Extract Here. After  the extracting you will have a new folder with the theme name. Open it and go into the DesktopBackground folder to get the wallpapers. You can delete the extra files and just keep the wallpapers. If you want to get the new Windows 7 Themes Wallpapers, but don’t want to search and install them separately, this is a nice workaround. • Android font out of view on small screen

  Hi Everyone I have several text views that take up the majority of the screen in landscape view in a relativelayout and the font size i have set is quite big (150dp). The text views are all timers and the furthest to the right is the "seconds" textview. My problem is that when testing on a phone with a small screen res the seconds are way outside the limit of the screen and can't be seen. They are in perfect place on normal to large screen resolutions just not on a small screen. Is there any way i can force the "seconds" text view to stay on screen, without adjusting the font size or margins between each text view? Even if it means looking cramped on a small screen i can live with that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks This is the corresponding code:

• Restore Files from Backups on Windows Home Server

  If you use Windows Home Server to backup the machines on your network, your in luck if you accidentally delete important files or they become corrupted. Today we take a look at getting your data back from backups on your home server. Open Windows Home Server Console and click select the Computers and Backup tab. Right-click on the computer you need to restore files for and select View Backups. This will open a list of your recent backups. Highlight the one you want to open, then click the Open button in the Restore or View Files section. If this is the first time you’re restoring a file, you’ll be asked to verify installation of the device software. Check the box next to Always trust software from Microsoft Corporation and click Install. Now wait while the backup data is retrieved. After the backup data has been retrieved, an explorer windows opens up to drive (Z:) which is the backup data. It’s just like if you were opening a drive on your local machine. Now you can browse through the backup and find the files your missing. You can open the files directly, or drag them onto your machine to the location you want to restore them.   Restoring your data is actually a very easy process with Windows Home Server. • Create Custom Playlists in Windows Media Player 12

  A playlist is a group of songs or media files that are grouped together based on a theme. Today we’ll look at how to create your own custom playlists in Windows Media Player 12. Create Custom Playlists Open Windows Media Player and switch to the Library view. Click on the Play tab at the top right to reveal the List pane.   If you currently have songs listed on the List pane, you can remove them by clicking Clear list.   To add songs to your playlist, right-click on the song title, select Add to, and then click Play list. You can also drag and drop the song title right onto the play list area. Hold down the Control [Ctrl] key while clicking to select more than one track at a time.   Changing the Playlist Order You can click and drag each item in your playlist to move it up or down.   You can also right click on the title and select Move up or Move down, or to completely remove a track from your playlist. You have the option to shuffle your list by clicking the Options list icon and selecting Shuffle list from the dropdown list. By selecting Sort list by you can sort by Title, Artist, Album, Release date, and more. Saving and naming your playlist To save your playlist, click on the Save list button. You’ll be prompted to enter a name for your playlist in the text box. Click away when you are finished. Windows Media Player will display your most recent playlists in the Navigation panel. Simply select the playlist anytime you want to listen to it.   Conclusion Custom playlists are a great way to group your music by themes such as mood, genre, activity, season, and more. • Black screen on Ubuntu 12.04

  I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and I'm experiencing some problems. The first thing I noticed is that when I click the Workspace switcher all I get is a black screen (I can guess where the different workspaces are located and clicked on them, not a practical solution though). In addition when I lock the screen or suspend the laptop (a Vaio VPCEB4M1E) I get a shifted screen (I see the right most vertical stripe on the left size of the monitor and nothing about all the rest, to put it clearly I can see the gear that allows me to turn the pc off, etc, but not much more..) when I go to the additional driver menu I see the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" are installed and the post-release update version is available. I don't know if the problem is driver related, so before doing anything I'd like to get some suggestions from you guys. Thanks you!

  Why every change in Asus UX50v causes screen resolution get lost? Installing a new application, connecting to another wireless network, change some settings, ... causes this problem. For example after installing an application, UX50v needs to restart. And when it got restarted, resolution would be set to 640x480(or 600x800) and Hibernate and Sleep options are disappeared from shutdown menu! (I have other problems with this Asus UX50v crap too - like I can't update windows 7 because it crashes on Asus UX50v crap - but this one is absolutely ridiculous and stupid!)

• GNU Screen: «unknown command 'vert_split'» though C-a | works

  Hi, in GNU-screen (4.00.03jw4 FAU 2-May-06) I'm able to perform a vertical split pressing C-a | (i.e. Ctrl+a, then pipe). Since I'd like to have the screen vertically splitted at the program startup, I put "vert_split" in my .screenrc file, but when I start it I can read «unknown command 'vert_split'» for few seconds in the status bar, and the screen is indeed not splitted. I can't find a solution for this in the manual. Can someone please help me? Thank you.

• XP Mode in Windows 7 professional recently ceased to work

  I have used Windows XP Mode in Windows Professional 7 once a week for around 2 years to run Quicken 98. About 2 weeks ago the XP Mode completely stopped working. I get different responses when I try to launch. I can sometimes see a launch screen for XP (which I never used to get) which then hangs Sometimes I just get a black screen Sometimes I get an error message in a cmd like interface that says "windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \system32\ntoskrnl.exe please reinstall a copy of the above file. I have noticed that in the tools tab at the top of the screen "enable integration features" is greyed out. Any recommendations? Ian

• One quarter of screen corrupted on MacBook Pro

  I have a problem with my MacBook Pro's screen - here's a video: http://yfrog.com/4wm63z For those who prefer words, if you divide the screen vertically into 4 columns, the second column is corrupted (flickering, and discoloured, usually with yellow). I took it to an Apple store and they said it could be the screen or the logic board, neither of which will be cheap to replace. However, occasionally this problem will completely go away. So before I part with my cash, or decide to turn this into an overpriced media center for my TV... could the problem be a loose cable, or something else cheaper to fix?

• Need a solution to stop students from rotating screen on laptops with intel graphics

  We have some students who have figured out how to rotate the screen using either the hotkey combination or right click context menu. It's easy to fix but it's time consuming because no matter how many times I tell people how to fix it there's always someone that will come up to me. Now I need two things. First, is there a way to disable screen rotation? Second, I need a script to reset the screen resolution to normal on logon and logoff. The solutions need to be able to be deployed from a Win2003 server to WinXP clients. I have way too many computers to go through by hand to uncheck enable hot keys on the intel control panel.

• Configure GNU screen so that it stores command histories in files

  I would like to configure GNU screen such that it stores the command histories of all the different windows in different files. I know by default GNU screen does not store the command histories (of its different windows) in a file at all (it stores them in memory instead), but it might be possible to tell it to store them in files instead? The different command history files should have the names <session>.<window>.history, or similar. Does anyone have an idea how to do that? (Just to be clear, I want each GNU screen window to write a different file. I like that each window has a different history, and I typically run different types of commands in the different windows.)

• ATI Radeon 4350 lower resolutions do not fill screen in Windows 7

  I have a new Windows 7 64-bit machine with an ATI HD4350 card. The card is connected via VGA (DSUB) to a SyncMaster 205 BW LCD monitor. If I set the resolution to 1680x1050 the LCD screen is completely filled and everything looks fine. But, if I try to set the resolution to 1280x768 (my preferred resolution) only about 2/3 of the monitor screen is used. There are large black bars above and below the image (but not on the sides). I have successfully used this monitor at the 1280x768 resolution for many years without this problem (albeit in Windows XP and a different video card). Can anyone suggest how I can get adjust things so that the entire screen is used at the 1280x768 resolution?

• Windows 8.1 will not go back to sleep after waking up

  I have problems putting Windows to sleep and starting the screen saver on my new Windows 8.1 machine. Sleep mode and screen savers work only when the computer is first powered up (or restarted). But once it goes to sleep (manually or automatically) and I wake it up later, it wont go back to sleep again and I can't use screen savers either. I updated the chipset and graphics card drivers. • Deleted, then added user w/ same name, now logs on w/ temp profile

  I am a new admin at a high school lab and am trying to spearhead separation of normal IT accounts from IT admin accounts. I made my normal account (e.g. ITuser) and an admin account (e.g. ITuser-adm) on the server (Win Server 2008 R2). I used both accounts on my my main desktop for about a day, but decided I hadn't set up the admin account correctly. I deleted the my admin account, then made a new one with the same name. The problem is that on my main desktop (Windows 7 Pro), whenever I log in with my admin account, it gives the following errors: Windows has backed up this user profile. Windows will automatically try to use the backup profile the next time this user logs on. (Error 1515) Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off. (Error 1511) This is more of a nuisance than anything for me, I just thought I could use the same name for a user account I'd just deleted since they would have separate SSIDs anyway. If it's less trouble, I could just make a new admin account. Or I could just keep using it as is since I don't need to be saving anything locally anyway and the typical folder redirects work fine. I'm just curious and want to understand what's going on. There are no errors listed regarding the registry.

• The email address used to help trust my PC, is no longer valid, how do I fix that?

  A few nights ago I upgraded my Windows 7 PC to Windows 8. This morning, when I logged into my PC, I noticed the little flag in the system tray, in desktop mode, had a red "X" on it. I checked it and one of the issues was my needing to tell Windows 8 that I trusted my PC. I clicked on the link to trust my PC, and saw the button to tell it to trust my PC, and so I did. After doing that it send it had sent out an email to a really old email address I had, which hasn't been valid for many years. Now what? Will that "trusting my PC" be invalid, because I can't respond to it (which certainly isn't true, if it's sending messages to so old email address). I didn't even know that Windows still had such an old email address. I'm concerned that I won't have a trust relationship with my own PC, that somehow or other whatever holds onto my information has old information and that I am not sure how to change it in as fast a manner as possible so that I can trust my own PC. How do I do these things?

• Why can't I copy .zip files from a server to a server in a different domain?

  At work, we're using a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM as our build server. At the end of the build process for any of our projects, we copy the packaged deployment files to a folder on the server where they'll be deployed. (This is done in a batch command by a service account.) For most of our projects, which deploy to a Windows Server 2008 R2 VM, this step goes swimmingly. But for one project, which deploys to a Windows Server 2003 R2 VM which resides in a different domain on our network, the .zip files return "Access is denied" and don't copy, though all of the other files copy correctly. Our sysadmins say they haven't prevented this in group policy or by other means. If I'm logged in the build server as myself and run the copy in the command window, I can't copy the .zip files over either, so it's not just a matter of the service account's permissions. If I log into the 2003 server and then copy from the build server to the 2003 server, using the command window, it works, whether I run as myself or as our service account. Only .zip files cause the "Access is denied" problem. Even a (fake) .exe file copies correctly. All of our other projects have .zip files, and they copy to their 2008 R2 server correctly. Is there a way I can get the Windows Server 2003 R2 VM to accept .zip files copied from our build server?

• Drawing an animation over an already drawn screen

  I am working on a XNA WP7 card game whose basic prototype is complete. In game screen, 6 cards are displayed at a time (3 for each of the two players say 1,2 and 3). If player A attacks one of player B's card then I want to show an animation over player B's card i.e the victim card(say a claw scratch for e.g.) My question is how do I approach with the animation system so that I can draw an animation over a card upon certain events e.g. dead, fire, claw attack etc. I have an attack function which detects which type of card is attacking which type of card. Depending on the type of attacker card I want to display the animation on the victim card. Also how do I play sound at the same time when the animation is going on?

• How to remove Ubunto from boot screen?

  I tried to install Ubuntu 14.04 on my Windows 8, and in the installation wizard I chose "Help me boot from CD". Now I have something like this when I restart the computer: http://i.stack.imgur.com/HxDQr.png If I click Ubuntu I get an error about a missing file (wubildr.mbr). I found a solution here. But that's not my concern now. I don't know if that means I have Ubuntu installed on my computer now or not, but I wanna delete it from the boot screen. I figured that I need to delete its partition, so I went to Disk Management and found the following: http://i.stack.imgur.com/W0oP4.png My question is: which one should I delete?

• Ubuntu via Wubi refuses to show up in boot menu

  I'm in this strange situation: I have 3 partitions, one for Vista (C), one for Windows 7 (D), and one 10GB partition (E). At least that's how my original OEM Vista partition sees them. The primary OS that I boot into everyday is Windows 7. The situation is that for some reason it sees the Windows 7 partition (its own) as drive C, the 10GB one as (D) and the Vista one as (E). I've successfully used the Wubi installation before on Vista, but now it simply doesn't work. Ubuntu just does not show up in the boot menu, no matter what I try to do. I'm running out of ideas. I heard it doesn't really play well with Windows 7 either. I set it to Vista compatibility mode and that didn't work, I also tried installing it from Vista itself and that didn't work either for some reason. Any ideas what I should try? If anyone is about to suggest EasyBCD, please underline the command-line instructions I'm gonna need to follow. Thanks.

  Just curious here: is it possible to invoke a Windows Blue Screen of Death using .net managed code under Windows XP/Vista? And if it is possible, what could the example code be? Just for the record, this is not for any malicious purpose, I am just wondering what kind of code it would take to actually kill the operating system as specified.
