• How to execute stored procedure from Access using linked tables

  I have an Access 2003 database that connects to a SQL Server 2008 box via ODBC. The tables from SQL Server are connected as linked tables in Access. I have a stored procedure on the SQL Server that I am trying to execute via ADO code. The problem I have is that Access cannot seem to find the procedure. What do I have to do within Access to be able to execute this stored procedure? Some facts ... The stored procedure in question accepts one parameter which is an integer. The stored procedure returns a recordset which I am hoping to use as the datasource for a ListBox. Here is my ADO code in Access ...   I am trying to get the real time progress indicator. • MSMQ - Message Queue Abstraction and Pattern

  Hi All, Let me define the problem first and why a messagequeue has been chosen. I have a datalayer that will be transactional and EXTREMELY insert heavy and rather then attempt to deal with these issues when they occur I am hoping to implement my application from the ground up with this in mind. I have decided to tackle this problem by using the Microsoft Message Queue and perform inserts as time permits asynchronously. However I quickly ran into a problem. Certain inserts that I perform may need to be recalled (ie: retrieved) immediately (imagine this is for POS system and what happens if you need to recall the last transaction - one that still hasn’t been inserted). The way I decided to tackle this problem is by abstracting the MessageQueue and combining it in my data access layer thereby creating the illusion of a single set of data being returned to the user of the datalayer (I have considered the other issues that occur in such a scenario (ie: essentially dirty reads and such) and have concluded for my purposes I can control these issues). However this is where things get a little nasty... I’ve worked out how to get the messages back and such (trivial enough problem) but where I am stuck is; how do I create a generic (or at least somewhat generic) way of querying my message queue? One where I can minimize the duplication between the SQL queries and MessageQueue queries. I have considered using LINQ (but have very limited understanding of the technology) and have also attempted an implementation with Predicates which so far is pretty smelly. Are there any patterns for such a problem that I can utilize? Am I going about this the wrong way? Does anyone have an of their own ideas about how I can tackle this problem? Does anyone even understand what I am talking about? :-) Any and ALL input would be highly appreciated and seriously considered… Thanks again.

  i have a database in MySql that has a name column in it which contains several words(description). I am connected to database with java through eclipse. • overwrite parameters passed by querystring

  I have the following problem I have a web framework built with classic asp that saves the page state in hidden textboxes, and then issues a submit to itself. Before submitting, we have a javascript functions that saves the action in a hidden "action" input, and then performs the submit. The page loads the state from those hidden texts, reads the action issued, reads extra parameters, like the id of the record to edit, and then builds the page accordingly. I'd like to make a url link to automatically start the page with "edit" action on a "x" id. So I was thinking about building the following url, for example http://myapp/user?action=edit&id=23 the problem is that when the page auto-submits, que url string keeps the parameters. I'd like to achieve the following: when the user clicks on http://myapp/user?action=edit&id=23 my page should receive the posted values action=edit and id=23 but the url should be just http://myapp/user and both parameters should be kept in the hidden texts... (I wonder if I make myself clear...) thanks a lot saludos sas ps: I have a couple of ideas about how to solve it, but I'll post them as answers...

• Is there a reason why SSIS significantly slows down after a few minutes?

  I'm running a fairly substantial SSIS package against SQL 2008 - and I'm getting the same results both in my dev environment (Win7-x64 + SQL-x64-Developer) and the production environment (Server 2008 x64 + SQL Std x64). The symptom is that initial data loading screams at between 50K - 500K records per second, but after a few minutes the speed drops off dramatically and eventually crawls embarrasingly slowly. The database is in Simple recovery model, the target tables are empty, and all of the prerequisites for minimally logged bulk inserts are being met. The data flow is a simple load from a RAW input file to a schema-matched table (i.e. no complex transforms of data, no sorting, no lookups, no SCDs, etc.) The problem has the following qualities and resiliences: Problem persists no matter what the target table is. RAM usage is lowish (45%) - there's plenty of spare RAM available for SSIS buffers or SQL Server to use. Perfmon shows buffers are not spooling, disk response times are normal, disk availability is high. CPU usage is low (hovers around 25% shared between sqlserver.exe and DtsDebugHost.exe) Disk activity primarily on TempDB.mdf, but I/O is very low (< 600 Kb/s) OLE DB destination and SQL Server Destination both exhibit this problem. To sum it up, I expect either disk, CPU or RAM to be exhausted before the package slows down, but instead its as if the SSIS package is taking an afternoon nap. SQL server remains responsive to other queries, and I can't find any performance counters or logged events that betray the cause of the problem. I'll gratefully reward any reasonable answers / suggestions.

• Getting the last User ID in Zend Framework

  Using MySQL query browser, I manually made a table called users and input some date in the fields. I set the primary key to id and set it to auto increment. There are 3 rows, the highest id is 3. I then made the following class in the method directory to call upon the data in the table etc. class Application_Model_DbTable_User extends Zend_Db_Table_Abstract { protected $_name = 'user'; public function getLatestUserId() { $id = $this->getAdapter()->lastInsertId(); return $id; } } In the controller I do the following which gets the value generated by the method and lets the view access it: $usersDbModel = new Application_Model_DbTable_User(); $lastUserId = $usersDbModel->getLatestUserId(); $this->view->lastUserId = $lastUserId; In the view I then echo it to display it to the user: echo $this->lastUserId; However, even though my last id in the users table is 3. It displays 0. I have also tried: public function getLatestUserId() { $sql = 'SELECT max(id) FROM user'; $query = $this->query($sql); $result = $query->fetchAll(); return $result; } But this just throws out a server error. What have I done wrong? Am I missing something? Is there another way of doing this?

The returned string from database can be "null", so i check it too. Them, the isDate function checks whether date is a date and it is ok. I want to check if my date, for example 21.05.2010 is an allowed weekday in this array. My function always returns TRUE and somehow weekday is always 'Thursday' and i don't know why... Is there any other ways to check this or what can be my error in the code above? thx

• Python program to search for specific strings in hash values (coding help)

  Trying to write a code that searches hash values for specific string's (input by user) and returns the hash if searchquery is present in that line. Doing this to kind of just learn python a bit more, but it could be a real world application used by an HR department to search a .csv resume database for specific words in each resume. I'd like this program to look through a .csv file that has three entries per line (id#;applicant name;resume text) I set it up so that it creates a hash, then created a string for the resume text hash entry, and am trying to use the .find() function to return the entire hash for each instance. What i'd like is if the word "gpa" is used as a search query and it is found in s['resumetext'] for three applicants(rows in .csv file), it prints the id, name, and resume for every row that has it.(All three applicants) As it is right now, my program prints the first row in the .csv file(print resume['id'], resume['name'], resume['resumetext']) no matter what the searchquery is, whether it's in the resumetext or not. lastly, are there better ways to doing this, by searching word documents, pdf's and .txt files in a folder for specific words using python (i've just started reading about the re module and am wondering if this may be the route, rather than putting everything in a .csv file.) def find_details(id2find): resumes_f=open("resume_data.csv") for each_line in resumes_f: s={} (s['id'], s['name'], s['resumetext']) = each_line.split(";") resumetext = str(s['resumetext']) if resumetext.find(id2find): return(s) else: print "No data matches your search query. • Communication between lexer and parser

  Every time I write a simple lexer and parser, I stumble upon the same question: how should the lexer and the parser communicate? I see four different approaches: The lexer eagerly converts the entire input string into a vector of tokens. Once this is done, the vector is fed to the parser which converts it into a tree. This is by far the simplest solution to implement, but since all tokens are stored in memory, it wastes a lot of space. Each time the lexer finds a token, it invokes a function on the parser, passing the current token. In my experience, this only works if the parser can naturally be implemented as a state machine like LALR parsers. By contrast, I don't think it would work at all for recursive descent parsers. Each time the parser needs a token, it asks the lexer for the next one. This is very easy to implement in C# due to the yield keyword, but quite hard in C++ which doesn't have it. The lexer and parser communicate through an asynchronous queue. This is commonly known under the title "producer/consumer", and it should simplify the communication between the lexer and the parser a lot. Does it also outperform the other solutions on multicores? Or is lexing too trivial? Is my analysis sound? Are there other approaches I haven't thought of? What is used in real-world compilers? It would be really cool if compiler writers like Eric Lippert could shed some light on this issue.

• Initialize child models at model creation

  I have a model Entree which belongs to a model Vin, which itself belongs to a model Producteur. On the form for Entree creation/edition, I want to allow the user to define the attributes for parent Vin and Producteur to create them, or retrieve them if they exist (retrieval based on user input). For now I do the following in Entree new and edit actions: @entree = Entree.new @entree.vin = Vin.new @entree.vin.producteur = Producteur.new and use fields_for helper in the form,and that works. But I intend to have much more dependencies with more models, so I want to keep it DRY. I defined a after_initialize callback in Vin model which does the producteur initialization: class Vin < ActiveRecord::Base after_initialize :vin_setup def vin_setup producteur = Producteur.new end end and remove the producteur.new from the controller. However, get an error on new action: undefined method `model_name' for NilClass:Class for the line in the form that says <%= fields_for @entree.vin.producteur do |producteur| %> I guess that means the after_initialize callback doesn't act as I expect it. Is there something I'm missing? Also, I get the same error if I define a after_initialize method in the Vin model instead of definiing a callback.

  Would appreciate help with generating a 2D histogram of frequencies, where frequencies are calculated within a column. My main issue: converting from counts to column based frequency.   I'm working on a login system for a forum and trying to make it work via a c# .net form. I need to programitically click the login button on the forum with a webBrower control. • How can I design a custom control in Javascript (possibly using jQuery)

  I'd like to create a custom control in javascript. The goal is to create a building block that has methods, properties and events and render into a div. An example of one such control would be a calendar. It would render into a div, it would have properties that would define how it's displayed and what date is selected or highlighted, it would have methods to change the current month or to select some date and it would raise events when a day is clicked or the current month is changed by a user input. I can think of lots of way to implement this and I'm not sure what is the best way. I seem to remember that it's a bad thing to augment a DOM elements with properties and method, so I ruled that out. A jQuery plugin seems like a good idea, however I'm not sure if it's appropriate to create a plugin for each and every method my control would have so I could then use it like : $('#control').method1(); $('#control').method2(); And if I do use jQuery, where do I store the private data of my control? Another idea I got was to create a new kind of object that would have a reference to a div in which it could render it's elements. So what is the prefered way to do this. If I can I would like to do this as a jQuery plugin, but I'd need guidlines on how to create methods and where to store private data. I've loked at Plugins/Authoring on jQuery website and it did not helped that much in this regard.

• Over Optimistic Daily Productivity

  I'm a junior developer and have been working since I graduated last summer so coming up to a year now. I have this issue that is starting to get to me. Every night I think back to what I did that day, feel bad that I didn't get as much done as I would have liked and then tick off in my head all the things I'll get done the following day. Come the end of the following day I end haven't gotten through half of what I wanted to. This over optimism that I'm suffering from. Might it be just because I'm relatively new to the profession and aren't aware of how long things will actually take me. The work might be quick to think through in my head but all sorts of time sync's involved can bleed away the hours. If not that then perhaps it's the technology stack that I'm working on. SharePoint isn't the easiest thing to develop for and it's certainly something I came into not knowing a whole lot about. If it's because I'm not yet skilled enough to predict how long things will take me, is this trait of over optimistic predictions universal to the profession? I'd appreciate any input from those experienced with working with younger developers and those that might have suffered from this themselves. [EDIT] Perhaps I worded the question badly. I'm interested in just general day to day work rather than overall project completion estimation.

• Image jQuery scroller in a container. (like facebook cropper) can't get values of position.

  Hey all. Having a reallllll mind pain. I have a php image uploader which is all good and sotring the file and the jquery ajax is returning the image in an ammended html div with a div set up like this: #crop-holder { width:80px; height:80px; margin:10px 10px 20px 10px; border:1px #c0c0c0 solid; overflow:hidden; cursor:move; } The image is viewing fine and I am using the jquery scrollview plugin: http://code.google.com/p/jquery-scrollview/ I have tried adding a few lines to the plugin to store variables of scrollTop and Left and then replacing two hidden input values with x and y in my page. And then on the returned ajax html in the div I am trying to on a button click (for example) retrieve the values of the two hidden inputs.... Heres what i added to the plugin (i'm no js expert!): .mouseout(function(){ var _m = this.m; var lasty = _m.scrollTop(); getElementById("ycord").value = lasty; var lastx = _m.scrollLeft(); getElementById("xcord").value = lastx; self.stopgrab(); }) Still no luck!! • Send Special Keys to Gtk.VteTerminal

  Hi I have this OSS Project called Monocaffe connections manager which uses the Gtk.VteTerminal widget from PyGTK. A nice feature is that it allows the users to send commands to different servers' consoles (cluster mode) using a Gtk.TextView for the input. The way I send key strokes to each Gtk.VteTerminal is by using the feed_child method. For common keys there's no problem: I simply feed what the TextView receives to all the terminals, but when doing so with special keys I get into a little trouble. For "Return" I catch the event and feed the terminal a '\n'. For back-space is the same, catch the event and feed a '\b'. def cluster_backspace(self, widget): return self.cluster_send_key('\b') The problem comes with other keys like Tab, Arrows, Esc which I don't know how to feed as str to the terminal to recognize them. In the case of Esc is a real pain, because the users can edit the same file on different servers using vi, but cannot escape insert mode. Anyway, I'm not looking for a complete solution, just ideas since I've ran out of them. Thanks.

If it founds that one or more checkboxes are selected it should ask user for his/her confirmation using confirm alert box about the confirmation of deletion. If user press YES button on confirm box then it should submit the form using javascript submit statement. • Cannot pass null to server using jQuery AJAX. Value received at the server is the string "null".

  I am converting a javascript/php/ajax application to use jQuery to ensure compatibility with browsers other than Firefox. I am having trouble passing true, false, and null values using jQuery's ajax function. Javascript code: $.ajax ( { url : <server_url>, dataType: 'json', type : 'POST', success : receiveAjaxMessage, data: { valueTrue : true, valueFalse : false, valueNull : null } } ); PHP code: var_dump($_POST); Server output: array(3) { ["valueTrue"]=> string(4) "true" ["valueFalse"]=> string(5) "false" ["valueNull"]=> string(4) "null" } The problem is that the null, true, and false values are being converted to strings. The Javascript AJAX code currently in use passes null, true, and false correctly but only works in Firefox. Does anyone know how to solve this problem using jQuery? Here is some working code (not using jQuery) to compare with the code not-working code given above. Javascript Code: ajaxPort.send ( <server_url>, { valueTrue : true, valueFalse : false, valueNull : null } ); PHP code: var_dump(json_decode(file_get_contents('php://input'), true)); Server output: array(3) { ["valueTrue"]=> bool(true) ["valueFalse"]=> bool(false) ["valueNull"]=> NULL } Note that the null, true, and false values are correctly received. Note also that in the second method the $_POST array is not used in the PHP code. I think this is the key to the problem, but I cannot find a way to replicate this behavior using jQuery.
