  • Are Maybes a good pattern for scala?

    For a while I have been struggling to integrate scala with java methods that might return null. I came up with the following utility which helps a lot: // produce an Option, nulls become None object Maybe { def apply[T](t:T) = if (t==null) None else Some(t) } Maybe(javaClass.getResultCouldBeNull()).map( result => doSomeWork(result) ) I have a few questions about this solution: Is there a better or more standard pattern to use? Am I duplicating something that already exists? Does this functionality have hidden gotchas?

  • Referencing CDI producer method result in h:selectOneMenu

    I have a named session scoped bean CustomerRegistration which has a named producer method getNewCustomer which returns a Customer object. There is also CustomerListProducer class which produces all customers as list from the database. On the selectCustomer.xhtml page the user is then able to select one of the customers and submit the selection to the application which then simply prints out the last name of the selected customer. Now this only works when I reference the selected customer on the facelets page via #{customerRegistration.newCustomer}. When I simply use #{newCustomer} then the output for the last name is null whenever I submit the form. What's going on here? Is this the expected behavior as according to chapter 7.1 Restriction upon bean instantion of JSR-299 spec? It says: ... However, if the application directly instantiates a bean class, instead of letting the container perform instantiation, the resulting instance is not managed by the container and is not a contextual instance as defined by Section 6.5.2, “Contextual instance of a bean”.     Suppose I have a Java method that returns a HashMap object. Because a LinkedHashMap is a subclass of HashMap, I can return a LinkedHashMap from this method just fine. On the next "read" action (no adding/removing/modifying of K/V pairs), would iterating over the keys of the resulting method (which returns a HashMap) go in the same order as the originating LinkedHashMap, even though the HashMap lacks the key links?

    hey i was wondering how i could make a copy of a sqlite3 table and save it to a seperate file in python. im confused as in python your sqlite3 object can only be connected to one database so how would i make it save to a seperate database? the reason i want to do this is in sqlite3 the database file size can never get smaller, and ive made alot of changes so i want just copy this table to another file which wont have all the extra empty space and then delete the origonal database thanks guys

    I know its possible to use WebSockets within C# using a console application running along side the web application but Im wondering if its possible to use the requests on the C# web application to create the WebSockets. I've been looking through ASP.Net and Im starting to think it wont be possible unless I use straight up C# and create my own HTTP server and then use the same socket object to generate Web Sockets (similar to the way Node.js and Socket.IO work). Any thoughts on ways to include WebSockets on a C# web application without having multiple servers / projects?

    What is the best way to take a string of html and turn it in to something useful? Essentially if i take a url and go get the html from that url in .net i get a response but this would come in the form of either a file or stream or string. What if i want an actual document or something I can crawl like an xmldocument object?
