Passive mode FTP file download hangs from specific machine

I have a server which is an AWS instance that just cannot download files from a specific FTP server. I can connect to the FTP server fine and run some commands, but when I request a file it just hangs. Here is the debug output of the base linux ftp client after login: ---> SYST 215 UNIX Type: Apache FtpServer Remote system type is UNIX. ftp> get outgoing/catalog.gz catalog.gz local: catalog.gz remote: outgoing/catalog.gz ---> PASV 227 Entering Passive Mode (64,156,167,125,135,191) ---> RETR outgoing/catalog.gz 150 File status okay; about to open data connection. Thats it. Then it just sits there and nothing transfers. Active mode does not work as the system is behind a firewall. Every FTP client I've tried has the same problem. The download works from other systems, even from other AWS instances I have with the same Security Group. Not necessarily the same distro or config though. I understand it may be some issue on the server side, but I want to know what it is about my particular machine where the transfer hangs and where on every other machine I can get my hands on, it works. Please let me know what the culprit on the client side could be or ideas on what else to look at.

Memory leak involving jQuery Ajax requests

I have a webpage that's leaking memory in both IE8 and Firefox; the memory usage displayed in the Windows Process Explorer just keeps growing over time. The following page requests the "unplanned.json" url, which is a static file that never changes (though I do set my Cache-control HTTP header to no-cache to make sure that the Ajax request always goes through). When it gets the results, it clears out an HTML table, loops over the json array it got back from the server, and dynamically adds a row to an HTML table for each entry in the array. Then it waits 2 seconds and repeats this process. So you can't give it a query like `$("#content tbody tr")` and expect it to remove all of the elements you've specified. Any element that you remove with it must have an `id` attribute. So if I want to remove my `tbody`, then I must assign an `id` to my `tbody` tag or else it will give an error. It removes the element itself and all of its descendants, so if you simply want to empty that element then you'll have to re-create it afterwards (or modify the plugin to empty instead of remove). So here's my page above modified to use Toran's plugin. For the sake of simplicity I didn't apply any of the general performance advice offered by Peter. MMC Snapin development: 'MMC not responding' - Is there a timeout that can be set for debugging?

So I'm writing a snapin for MMC 3. Quite often I have the debugger attached and I'm stepping through some code. MMC has some kind of a fail safe for misbehaving snapins that automatically unloads them after a timeout. The message is 'This snap-in is not responding'. After that MMC can behave as though your snap-in has been unloaded. fair enough, it's not responding because I'm stepping through the debugger. However, the timeout is very small for development. Does anyone know of a way of increasing the timeout? I googled and couldn't find anything. Checking the MMC registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC and couldn't see anything there. I also checked the snap-in registry location under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns. No luck. I feel like there must be a way of increasing the timeout as this is something the devs as Microsoft must have encountered this problem.

Linq where clause with multiple conditions and null check

I'm trying to check if a date is not null in linq and if it isn't check its a past date. QuestionnaireRepo.FindAll(q => !q.ExpiredDate.HasValue || q.ExpiredDate >DateTime.Now).OrderByDescending(order => order.CreatedDate); I need the second check to only apply if the first is true. I am using a single repository pattern and FindAll accepted a where clause ANy ideas? There are lots of similar questions on here but not that give the answer, I'm very new to Linq as you may of guessed :) Edit: I get the results I require now but it will be checking the conditional on null values in some cases. Is this not a bad thing?

Hi, I'm trying to create a button that behaves similarly to the "slide" button on the iPhone. I have an animation that adjusts the position and width of the button, but I want these values to be based on the text used in the control. Currently, they're hardcoded. If I bind the values to an ActualWidth of an element in the ControlTemplate, the control comes up as a blank checkbox (my base class). However, I'm binding to the same ActualWidths in the ControlTemplate itself without any problems. Just seems to be the CheckBox.Resources that have a problem with it. For instance, the following will break it: <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="CheckButton" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(Button.Width)" Duration="{StaticResource AnimationTime}" To="{Binding ElementName=CheckedText, Path=ActualWidth}" /> I don't know whether this is because it's trying to bind to a value that doesn't exist until a render pass is done, or if it's something else. Anyone have any experience with this sort of animation binding?

why are read only form fields in django a bad idea?

I've been looking for a way to create a read-only form field and every article I've found on the subject comes with a statement that "this is a bad idea". Now for an individual form, I can understand that there are other ways to solve the problem, but using a read only form field in a modelformset seems like a completely natural idea. Consider a teacher grade book application where the teacher would like to be able to enter all the students' (note the plural students) grades with a single SUBMIT. A modelformset could iterate over all the student-grades in such a way that the student name is read-only and the grade is the editable field. I like the power and convenience of the error checking and error reporting you get with a modelformset but leaving the student name editable in such a formset is crazy. Since the expert django consensus is that read-only form fields are a bad idea, I was wondering what the standard django best practice is for the example student-grade example above?

A plugin is preventing Eclipse from starting up

It just gives me a blank window, and the splash screen doesn't go away. I tried running it in a terminal, turns out it's a problematic plugin. Is there a way to disable that plugin without the GUI? JPA : optimize EJB-QL query involving large many-to-many join table

Hi all. I'm using Hibernate Entity Manager 3.4.0.GA with Spring 2.5.6 and MySql 5.1. I have a use case where an entity called Artifact has a reflexive many-to-many relation with itself, and the join table is quite large (1 million lines). As a result, the HQL query performed by one of the methods in my DAO takes a long time. Any advice on how to optimize this and still use HQL ? Or do I have no choice but to switch to a native SQL query that would perform a join between the table ARTIFACT and the join table ARTIFACT_DEPENDENCIES ? How do I create relative links for use in a sharepoint site template

We are creating a site template that among other things has a Document library with MANY sub folders and a Link list that contains shortcut links to the depths of the DocLib. While making the Site template we are checking the box to 'Include Content.' We are using Sharepoint 2010. No MOSS. Our problem: Once we make a site from the template, the shortcut links don't work. While the first part of the link URL is rewritten, there is a portion of the original site name still buried in the URL. My Question: Is there a way to create a relative links to content inside of the site, so that the the site name isn't included? or is there a variable I can use to represent th current site? or do I have to programmatically 'fix-up' the links after it's created? or some other better option?

I have enabled sessions, so that I can track login status, etc. I don't need some super security here (ie message-level security), all I need is transport security (HTTPS), since this service will be used infrequently, and performances are not so much of an issue. Check username and password in LINQ query

C# - Screenshot of process under Windows Service

We have to run a process from a windows service and get a screenshot from it. We tried the BitBlt and PrintWindow Win32 calls, but both give blank (black) bitmaps. If we run our code from a normal user process, it works just fine. Is this something that is even possible? Or could there be another method to try? Things we tried: Windows service running as Local System, runs process as Local System - screenshot fails Windows service running as Administrator, runs process as Administrator - screenshot fails. Windows application running as user XYZ, runs a process as XYZ - screenshot works with both BitBlt or PrintWindow. Tried checking "Allow service to interact with desktop" from Local System We also noticed that PrintWindow works better for our case, it works if the window is behind another window. For other requirements, both the parent and child processes must be under the same user. We can't really use impersonation from one process to another.

I have a username textbox on a form, that has a few validation rules applied to it via the DataAnnotation attributes: [Required(ErrorMessage = "FTP login is required")] [StringLength(15, ErrorMessage = "Must be 15 characters or fewer")] [RegularExpression(@"[a-zA-Z0-9]*", ErrorMessage = "Alpha-numeric characters only")] public string FtpLogin { get; set; } I also have a button next to this text box, that fires off a jQuery ajax request that checks for the existence of the username as follows: <button onclick="check(this);return false;" id="FtpLoginCheck" name="FtpLoginCheck">Available?</button> I'm looking for a way of tieing the two together, so that the client-side validation is performed before the call to the "check(this)" in the onclick event. Edit: To be more clear, I need a way to inspect or trigger the client-side validation result of the textbox, when I click the unrelated button beside it. Edit: I now have the button JS checking for $("form").validate().invalid, but not displaying the usual validation messages. Almost there Any ideas?

MSSQL EXPRESS 2008 Stored Procedure execution time spikes periodically

I have a big stored procedure on a MSSQL 2008 Express SP2 database that gets run about every 200 ms. Normal execution time is about 50ms. What I am seeing is large inconsistencies in this run time. It will execute for while, say 50-100 times at 40-60ms which is expected, then seemingly at random the same stored procedure will take way longer, say 900ms or 1.5 seconds to run. Sometimes more than one call of the same procedure in a row will take longer too. It appears that something is causing sql server to slow down dramatically every minute or so, but I can't figure out what. There is no timing pattern between the occurences. I have the same setup on two different computers, one of which is a clean XP Pro load with no virus checking and nothing installed except SQL server. Also, The recovery options for all the databases are set to "Simple".

When my wcf service tries launching my query running against a local sql server this is the error I receive: Memory gates checking failed because the free memory (43732992 bytes) is less than 5% of total memory. As a result, the service will not be available for incoming requests. To resolve this, either reduce the load on the machine or adjust the value of minFreeMemoryPercentageToActivateService on the serviceHostingEnvironment config element. and ideas??

Best way to detect integer overflow in C/C++

I was writing a program in C++ to find all solutions of a^b = c (a to the power of b), where a, b and c together use all the digits 0-9 exactly once. The program looped over values of a and b, and ran a digit-counting routine each time on a, b and a^b to check if the digits condition was satisfied. However, spurious solutions can be generated when a^b overflows the integer limit. I ended up checking for this using code like: unsigned long b, c, c_test; ... c_test=c*b; // Possible overflow if (c_test/b != c) {/* There has been an overflow*/} else c=c_test; // No overflow Is there a better way of testing for overflow? I know that some chips have an internal flag that is set when overflow occurs, but I've never seen it accessed through C or C++.

Is there a way to mark up code to tell ReSharper not to format it?

I quite often use the ReSharper "Clean Up Code" command to format my code to our coding style before checking it into source control. This works well in general, but some bits of code are better formatted manually (eg. because of the indenting rules in ReSharper, things like chained linq methods or multi-line ternary operators have a strange indent that pushes them way to the right). Is there any way to mark up parts of a file to tell ReSharper not to format that area? I'm hoping for some kind of markup similar to how ReSharper suppresses other warnings/features. If not, is there some way of changing a combination of settings to get ReSharper to format the indenting correctly? EDIT: I have found this post from the ReSharper forums that says that generated code sections (as defined in the ReSharper options page) are ignored in code cleanup. Having tried it though, it doesn't seem to get ignored.

iphone basic game loop

I am little confused with my Opengl game loop. as I am skipping touch events some times. My game loop is some thing like this.. I have ScreenManager which draw and update all game screens who so ever has control.In update I am checking input of all screen also. if input state changes, then whichever screen has control, consume touches. EaglView draw update | | ScreenManager.draw ScreenManager.update -> handle input stack ___________ ___________ of ___________ ___________ screen ___________ ___________ Problem comes.. I am changing input state as touch begun and end methods called. but sometimes In my game loop both touchbegun/end methods get called between two updates and I am missing events. I guess approach is not good. can you guys share your approach to this problem.

How would you validate a checkbox in ASP.Net MVC 2?

Using MVC2, I have a simple ViewModel that contains a bool field that is rendered on the view as a checkbox. I would like to validate that the user checked the box. The [Required] attribute on my ViewModel doesn't seem to do the trick. I believe this is because the unchecked checkbox form field is not actually transmitted back during the POST, and therefore the validation doesn't run on it. Is there a standard way to handle checkbox "required" validation in MVC2? or do I have to write a custom validator for it? I suspect the custom validator won't get executed either for the reason mentioned above. Am I stuck checking for it explicitly in my controller? That seems messy... Any guidance would be appreciated.
