• Get averages from pre-aggregated reports in mongodb

  I've got a database with pre-aggregated metrics similar to the one outlined in this use case: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/use-cases/pre-aggregated-reports/ I have a daily collection with a subdocument for hour and minute metrics, and a 'metadata.date' entry for midnight on the day it represents. I also have a monthly collection with a day subdocument for each day. If I want to get an average of a metric over the past eight or so days how can I do that with the aggregation framework? Is the aggregation framework not the right tool for this since it's already pre-aggregated?

• Detect at runtime which country's App Store my iPhone app was downloaded from?

  I have a feature in my iPhone application that, for business reasons, should only be shown/available to customers in the US. If I want to release this app to App Stores outside the US, what's the best way to figure out which country I'm in without relying on user-defined settings such as language and locale? In my mind, the ideal solution is that there's some runtime property that can tell me which App Store country the app was downloaded from, and I can take action accordingly. Looking through the docs and searching the web, I'm not coming up with anything in this department. I don't expect the solution to be 100% foolproof as far as users not being in the country they say they're from, but as close as possible would be nice. I suppose one solution would be to make a separate build for a new product on the App Store and have two versions, one for the US and one for the others, but that doesn't seem ideal. I'm hoping it can be the same product on the App Store to prevent things like fragmentation of user reviews. Thanks in advance!

• Persistent SQL Table lock from C#

  I'm trying to create a persistent SQL (SQL Server 2005) lock on a table level. I'm not updating/querying the specified table, but I need to prevent a third party application from updating the locked table as a means to prevent transactions from being posted (the table I wish to lock is the key on their transaction that interferes with my processing). From my experience the table is only locked for the time a specific transaction is taking place. Any ideas? The 3rd party developer has logged this feature as an enhancement, but since they are in the middle of rolling out a major release I can expect to wait at least 6 months for this. I know that this isn't a great solution, since their software will fall over but it is of a critical enough nature that we're willing to live with the consequences.

• iPhone Application crashing upon loading a new Detail View

  Hi, My problem is when trying to load a detail view through a table cell, the application constantly crashes. The error that comes up when running through debug is "__TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___" objc exception thrown. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. • drupal + i18n - how to send the currently selected locale to javascript?

  I've got a multi-lingual Drupal 6 installation. The multi-language is provided by the i18n module. I'm displaying some date pickers using jquery ui's datepicker. I'd like to localize those datepickers too (so when the page being shown is English, they show 'mon tue wed ...' but when the page is in Spanish they show 'lun mar mi ...'). My problem is: I don't know how to send the currently selected locale to javascript. The closest thing I could find was the javascript Drupal.locale object. However that object doesn't seem to have a 'locale name'.

• Creating files on a time (hourly) basis

  Hi there, I experimenting with twitter streaming API, I use Phirehose to connect to twitter and fetch the data but having problems storing it in files for further processing. Basically what I want to do is to create a file named date("YmdH")."."txt" for every hour of connection. • Syncing JS+PHP time

  Since the Date constructor is based on your PC's timezone and server-side is obviously dependent on the server's time settings... What procedures can I do to ensure that the timestamps I generate are consistent on both ends? I have a jQuery datepicker setup and I do a lot of work, I also have my own datepicker that's generated from server-side code which looks up db availability for bookings. I'm saving arrival/departure times on the server-side and the days are off by one because the JS is local timezone ( mine is Eastern ) . Is my only option doing something like making the JS call PHP to grab a timestamp?

• Crystal Reports: Cannot insert some fields from Field Explorer to Report

  I have an existing report (Crystal Reports 11) that is based on two Oracle views. I have made 'Verify database' already, it's done and up to date. My problem is that I can insert some fields to report but some other I cannot. For example: field Name (string(35)) is ok, but similar field Compamy (string(20)) I cannot insert to Report. Drag&drop does not work and small button "Insert to Report" in Field Explorer is disabled too. Next symptom: when I try to use functionless field (e.g. Company) in Record Selection Formula Editor, Crystal Reports crash. There is any way how to add these fields into Report? Thanks

However I need to create cloned version of data and release data as soon as possible. data can be changed in other thread so I want to get immediate snapshot of it. How can I force filtered to be evaluated immediately?

• Win32_PageFileUsage WMI call returning 0 for CurrentUsage

  I am querying for the current page file usage on Windows-based systems. This is meant to run on the .NET Framework, version 2.0 SP1 and has been tested (and works!) on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008. On Windows Server 2003 SP2 (original release, not R2) it appears to return 0: using (var query = new ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT CurrentUsage FROM Win32_PageFileUsage")) { foreach (ManagementBaseObject obj in query.Get()) { uint used = (uint)obj.GetPropertyValue("CurrentUsage"); return used; } } This is simply returning the results from the first row returned for the WMI call. Even when a page file is being used, it returns 0. What causes the result to be 0 when it should be returning a larger value? It may be something specific to the machine in question, and could have nothing to do with the operating system version. I've also tried this with and without elevated privileges with the same results.

• Windows Service Fails on Launch

  I'm trying to write a windows service. It installs fine, but fails when I run it with the following exception. I've searched for the string "MyNewProgramService", but I can't find any conversions that would throw this error. I've also added try/catch blocks to a bunch of code with custom exception handling without finding where this exception is occuring. I'm thinking it's somewhere in the auto-generated configuartion/setup code. Any ideas? • SQL Server (TSQL) - Is it possible to EXEC statements in parallel?

  SQL Server 2008 R2 Here is a simplified example: EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''1st '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126) WAITFOR DELAY ''000:00:10''' EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''2nd '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126)' The first statement will print the date and delay 10 seconds before proceeding. The second statement should print immediately. The way T-SQL works, the 2nd statement won't be evaluated until the first completes. If I copy and paste it to a new query window, it will execute immediately. The issue is that I have other, more complex things going on, with variables that need to be passed to both procedures. What I am trying to do is: Get a record Lock it for a period of time while it is locked, execute some other statements against this record and the table itself Perhaps there is a way to dynamically create a couple of jobs? Anyway, I am looking for a simple way to do this without having to manually PRINT statements and copy/paste to another session. Is there a way to EXEC without wait / in parallel?

• high tweet status IDs causing failed to open stream errors?

  Erg. Starting in the past few days high tweet IDs (at least, it appears it's ID related, but I suppose it could be some recent change in the api returns) are breaking my code. At first I tried passing the ID as a string instead of an integer to this function, and I thought this worked, but in reality it was just the process of uploading the file from my end. In short, a php script generates these function calls, and when it does so, they fail. If I download the php file the call is generated into, delete the server copy and re-upload the exact same file without changing it, it works fine. Does anyone know what could be causing this behavior? Below is what I suspect to be the most important part of the individual files that are pulling the errors. • Modern way to validate POST-data in MVC 2

  There are a lot of articles devoted to working with data in MVC, and nothing about MVC 2. So my question is: what is the proper way to handle POST-query and validate it. Assume we have 2 actions. Both of them operates over the same entity, but each action has it's own separated set of object properties that should be bound in automatic manner. For example: Action "A" should bind only "Name" property of object, taken from POST-request Action "B" should bind only "Date" property of object, taken from POST-request As far as I understand - we cannot use Bind attribute in this case. So - what are the best practices in MVC2 to handle POST-data and probably validate it.

• Why do they initialize pointers this way?

  In almost all of the books I read and examples I go through I see pointers initialized this way. Say that I have a class variable NSString *myString that I want to initialize. I will almost always see that done this way: -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *tempString = [[NSString alloc] init]; myString = tempString; [tempString release]; } return self; } Why can't I just do the following? -(id)init { if (self = [super init]) { myString = [[NSString alloc] init]; } return self; } I don't see why the extra tempString is ever needed in the first place, but I could be missing something here with memory management. Is the way I want to do things acceptable or will it cause some kind of leak? I have read the Memory Management Guide on developer.apple.com and unless I am just missing something, I don't see the difference.

• How do I use a custom select statement in Hibernate using the HibernateDaoSupport class

  I am trying to write a custom select statement in Hibernate using the getHibernateTemplate() method. I am having problems with the resulting mapping. Example Code: List<User> users = getHibernateTemplate().find("Select user, sysdate as latestPost from User as user"); for (User user : users) { assertNotNull(users.name); } The goal of the above line is to eventually have a join where I get the max(date) of posts made by the user. The problem I am having is that the resulting users list is not a list of User objects and I get a class cast exception. Hopefully that is enough code. It is a greatly simplified version of my problem and a combination of snippets from various parts of my application.

• Shell_exec with git pull ?

  Hi everyone, I am setting up a github account, to work on a small project with some friends. I would like to have my home machine able to do a git pull via php, so that we just have to call this small php file for the machine to be up to date. As of right now : <?php $output = shell_exec('git help'); echo "<pre>$output</pre>"; ?> This works perfectly and I get the output, I am in the right directory, so git pull should work just as well, but I get a hanging page, no error, nothing. Any idea ?

• OS X Terminal: Meta key + alt functionality at the same time

  Is there a way to use "alt/option" key as a meta key but still be able to use the key to make some characters which need it? For example in my local keyboard layout: @ is alt-2 \ is alt-shift-7 | is alt-7 etc. So if I set alt as meta key, I can't make those characters. On the other hand using "press esc, release esc, press a key" to make meta key sequences makes my hands hurt. Any emacs users with international keyboards who have solved this, please give any tips you might have! :) edit: It appears that I can set alt as meta key and then add these kind of settings in inputrc: "\e2": "@" This works in bash shell but it still won't work with emacs though, so no good.

  Hi guys, i have the following code below: const char* timeformat = "%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S"; const int timelength = 20; char timecstring[timelength]; strftime(timecstring, timelength, timeformat, currentstruct); cout << "timecstring is: " << timecstring << "\n"; currentstruct is a tm*. The cout is giving me the date in the correct format, but the year is not 2010, but 3910. I know there is something to do with the year cound starting at 1900, but im not sure how to get strftime to recognise this and not add 1900 to the value of 2010 that is there, can anyone help.   I want to be able to get a list of issues given a: Project Name and Release Version this seems like a basic JIRA soap API 101 request It seems, looking at the documentation: http://docs.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/api/rpc-jira-plugin/latest/index.html?com/atlassian/jira/rpc/soap/JiraSoapService.html you can get issues by: Filter SearchTerms SearchTerms and Project but not the above. Is this a complete oversight or i am missing something i would expect to see something like this: RemoteIssue[] issues = _soapService.getIssues(string project_, string version_) any help? UPDATE: I see that JIRA 4.0 is out but i can't find any documentation if the API has changed to support this request above. Can anyone find this link to answer that questions.

• Mysql Query - Order By Not Working

  I'm running Mysql 5.0.77 and I'm pretty sure this query should work? SELECT * FROM purchases WHERE time_purchased BETWEEN '2010-04-15 00:00:00' AND '2010-04-18 23:59:59' ORDER BY time_purchased ASC, order_total DESC time_purchased is DATETIME, and an index. order_total is DECIMAL(10,2), and not an index. I want to order all purchases by the date (least to greatest), and then by the order total (greatest to least). So I would output similar to: 2010-04-15 $100 2010-04-15 $80 2010-04-15 $20 2010-04-16 $170 2010-04-16 $45 2010-04-16 $15 2010-04-17 $274 .. and so on. The output I am getting from that query has the dates in order correctly, but it doesn't appear to sort the order total column at all. Thoughts? Thanks.
