• How should I synchronize lists in WCF?

  I've got a WCF service that offers multiple lists of items of different types. The lists can be changed on the server. Every change has to be published to all clients to make sure every client has an up-to-date copy of each server list. Currently I'm using this strategy: On login, every client receives the current status of every list. On every change, the added or removed item is sent to all clients. The drawback is that I have to create a callback for every list, since the items are of different types. Is there a pattern I could apply? Or do I really have to duplicate code for each of the lists?

  Hello everyone I was set up with a Challenge where I must parse through an HTML page to find the end date of all the classes. I am using the HTMLAgilityPack but, this is the first time I have used it, also the webpage who ever set it up has no classes or Id's and the end dates are stored in a Tr H4 tag. I am not sure how to Parse through any hits? • Problem in creating another thread

  Hi, I am using NSThread to create different thread and displaying images in my application on a new thread instead of main thread. On main thread i am working with a table view which is displaying data from XML file, In the same view I am displaying images below. But, displaying images on new thread is not working properly. • How to only show simpleTip if certain conditions are true?

  I'm working on my first jquery project and have a question regarding the simpletip plugin. I basically have a calendar where the user can click different meeting titles and the corresponding dates get shaded in with a certain color. I am then using the simpletip to display more detailed information about the meeting when the user hovers over that date. What I want is for the simpletip to only display if the cell is colored in, or "on". When the calendar is blank and no meetings are activated, I don't want all the simpletips to show. I have tried using an if statement with a .mouseover() - this works at first, when the cells are off, no simpletip. After the meeting is turned on and colored in, the first mouseover does nothing, then the second mouseover shows the simpletip, and then the simpletip remains active even after the cell is turned off. Hope this makes sense... please help! Thank you in advance

• Some help needed with a SQL query

  Hello, I need some help with a MySQL query. I have two tables, one with offers and one with statuses. An offer can has one or more statuses. What I would like to do is get all the offers and their latest status. For each status there's a table field named 'added' which can be used for sorting. I know this can be easily done with two queries, but I need to make it with only one because I also have to apply some filters later in the project. • Start developing for macosx

  hello, I would like to start developing for macosx. I need to create a small native application to help me do some stuff. I never developed in Objective-C, have no idea about cocoa, Xcode, NIB and similar stuff. I don't want to learn by slapping examples together though. This would probably make things done, but I would not learn anything. I'd prefer a guided tutorial (or book) to go from zero to release on the web of the application. Do you have anything to suggest ?

  There are a lot of articles devoted to working with data in MVC, and nothing about MVC 2. So my question is: what is the proper way to handle POST-query and validate it. Assume we have 2 actions. Both of them operates over the same entity, but each action has it's own separated set of object properties that should be bound in automatic manner. For example: Action "A" should bind only "Name" property of object, taken from POST-request Action "B" should bind only "Date" property of object, taken from POST-request As far as I understand - we cannot use Bind attribute in this case. So - what are the best practices in MVC2 to handle POST-data and probably validate it.

  I'm new to the memory management of the iphone and had a question about standards/correctness. My header file declares: IBOutlet UITabBarController *tabBarController; @property (nonatomic, retain) UITabBarController *tabBarController; In my init() code I was doing something like the following: self.tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; [tabBarController release]; NSLog(@"Retain count of tbc: %d",[tabBarController retainCount]); to get the retain count back to one.   I'm using RHEL 5.3, which is shipped with gcc 4.1.2 and boost 1.33. There're some features I want, that are missing in the boost 1.33. Therefore the thought was to upgrade to fresh boost release 1.43. Is it possible to use concurrently some header-only library(s) from boost 1.43 and the rest from 1.33? For example I want to use unorded_map, which is missing in boost 1.33. Is it possible to use concurrently binary boost libraries from different releases?

  There are some technologies like LINQ and WPF which are nice, but installation of .NET 3.5 is still slow procedure. It's important to understand - among Windows users how many of them have .NET 3.5 installed? Is there any good up to date stats gathered about .NET Version availability/usage? I've searched a lot, but can't find. Update: .NET version IS present in web-agent strings for FF and IE at least. So there SHOULD be somebody who have that information. Anyone with access to really large web-site logs? Update 2: I also understand Vista means that user have 3.5, but XP is still dominating the market.

  I've got a database with pre-aggregated metrics similar to the one outlined in this use case: http://docs.mongodb.org/manual/use-cases/pre-aggregated-reports/ I have a daily collection with a subdocument for hour and minute metrics, and a 'metadata.date' entry for midnight on the day it represents. I also have a monthly collection with a day subdocument for each day. If I want to get an average of a metric over the past eight or so days how can I do that with the aggregation framework? Is the aggregation framework not the right tool for this since it's already pre-aggregated?

  Hi! I have the following data in a c++ string John Doe 01.01.1970 I need to extract the date and time from it into int variables. I tried it like this: int last_space = text_string.find_last_of(' '); int day = int(text_string.substr(last_space + 1, 2)); But I got invalid cast from type ‘std::basic_string’ to type ‘int’. When I extract the "John Doe" part in another string variable, all works fine. What's wrong? I am trying to compile it with g++ -Wall -Werror.

  I've subclassed MKAnnotation so that i can assign objects to annotations and then assign this object to a view controller like so: - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control { PlaceDetailView *detailView = [[PlaceDetailView alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; detailView.place = [view.annotation place]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:detailView animated:YES]; [detailView release]; } This is working great but i'm having the following issues: If i try and access the place getter method like so view.annotation.place i recieve an error: Accessing unknown place getter method If i acces the place getter method like so [view.annotation place] i receive a warning: place not found in protocol From my understanding this is because the place object is not defined in the MKAnnotation protocol, although i'm aware of this i'm not sure how to tell the complier that place does exist and it's not calling it blind.

I've got an iPhone 3GS that I use only for development and over the months I've accumulated 3,472 rollover minutes (my primary phone is an Android G-1). It seems a shame to let these minutes go to "waste." What cool iPhone app would you like to see that uses these minutes up in a productive, interesting, and possibly cool way.   From the docs: Note: Core Data avoids the term unfaulting because it is confusing. There's no “unfaulting” a virtual memory page fault. Page faults are triggered, caused, fired, or encountered. Of course, you can release memory back to the kernel in a variety of ways (using the functions vm_deallocate, munmap, or sbrk). Core Data describes this as “turning an object into a fault”. Is a Fault in Core Data essentially a memory page fault? I have only a slight idea about what a memory page is. I believe it's a kind of "piece of code in memory" which is needed to execute procedures and stuff like that, and as the app is runing, pieces of code are sucked into memory as "pages" and thrown away as they're not needed anymore. Probably 99% wrong ;) Anyone?

• ASPNET MVC what do you call this, a partial view? Or something else?

  I'm trying to google for info on a situation, but I dont know what it is called, so its hard to find results :) I have a model with say 10 fields. But only some of those are shown on a particular view, lets say 3 of them: id, name, date. What do you call this kind of view that does not display the whole model? A partial view? The problem is that because 7 fields are not sent to the view, when the Update action is called on the controller, those fields are null, and the DB gets updated with those 7 fields set to null.

It consists of the following fields: report_id INT ym VARCHAR -- YYYY-MM keyword VARCHAR(MAX) visits INT I can easily get the top 10 keyword hits with the following query: SELECT TOP 10 * FROM top_keywords WHERE ym BETWEEN '2010-05' AND '2010-05' ORDER BY visits DESC Now where it gets tricky is where I have to get the top 10 records for each report_id in the given date range (ym BETWEEN @start_date AND @end_date). How would I go about getting the top 10 for each report_id? I've stumbled across suggestions involving the use of ROW_NUMBER() and RANK(), but have been vastly unsuccessful in their implementation.

• Win32_PageFileUsage WMI call returning 0 for CurrentUsage

  I am querying for the current page file usage on Windows-based systems. This is meant to run on the .NET Framework, version 2.0 SP1 and has been tested (and works!) on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008. On Windows Server 2003 SP2 (original release, not R2) it appears to return 0: using (var query = new ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT CurrentUsage FROM Win32_PageFileUsage")) { foreach (ManagementBaseObject obj in query.Get()) { uint used = (uint)obj.GetPropertyValue("CurrentUsage"); return used; } } This is simply returning the results from the first row returned for the WMI call. Even when a page file is being used, it returns 0. What causes the result to be 0 when it should be returning a larger value? It may be something specific to the machine in question, and could have nothing to do with the operating system version. I've also tried this with and without elevated privileges with the same results.
