• How to avoid circular relationship in SQL-Server?

  I am creating a self-related table: Table Item columns: ItemId int - PK; Amount money - not null; Price money - a computed column using a UDF that retrieves value according to the items ancestors' Amount. ParentItemId int - nullable, reference to another ItemId in this table. I need to avoid a loop, meaning, a sibling cannot become an ancestor of his ancestors, meaning, if ItemId=2 ParentItemId = 1, then ItemId 1 ParentItemId = 2 shouldn't be allowed. I don't know what should be the best practice in this situation. I think I should add a CK that gets a Scalar value from a UDF or whatever else. EDIT: Another option is to create an INSTEAD OF trigger and put in 1 transaction the update of the ParentItemId field and selecting the Price field from the @@RowIdentity, if it fails cancel transaction, but I would prefer a UDF validating. Any ideas are sincerely welcomed.

  I have a web service which is queried using linq to sql but returns an array of objects. I keep getting the following error: System.Security.VerificationException: Operation could destabilize the runtime When I run a method that uses a linq statement to return an array I get this error, but only on my test server, which is windows server 2008. Everything works fine in my win 7 machine. The project is a .net 3.5. Any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks UPDATE: My linq queries return IQueryable.

• TeamCity - Build triggering on specific file, Mercurial

  Hi I'm trying to get my build to trigger only when i create a Tag in Mercurial. The way im trying to do this is by creating an additional Build Config (Tag Conf) for my project where I set the VCS build trigger to: +:/.hgtags --Trigger only when tags are updated -:. --Do not trigger on any other files Whenever i push a changeset (without a Tag) in the overview my build conf (Tag Conf) says "X Pending", i suspect this is the changesets. And when I create a Tag in Mercurial, a build i is triggered and the X Pending goes away. Then all there is left for me todo is to update build/rev numbers in AssemblyInfo (somehow) and deploy the Artifacts(somehow). Question: Is this the correct way to do this or are there another/better way to do this? (Im using sln2010 runner + NUnit + Mercurial) Kind Regards

• SSRS 2005 Matrix and border styles when exporting to XLS

  The Matrix in SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services 2005) seems to have issues with certain the border styles when exporting to XLS (but not PDF or web view; maybe other formats, not sure?). For example: Create a matrix and set the Matrix border style to Black Solid 1px, but all 4 of the cells to have a border style of Black None 1px. When viewed via the ASP.NET control, it looks correct. But after export to XLS, it creates borders around all of the header cells (column and row headers, and the top left cell), and even the right most data column. But all the cells in the middle of the report correctly have no border set. Update: If the Matrix borders are set to None, then the borders on the cells don't show up in XLS. So, how do you set an outer border around the Matrix, but not have it apply the 'all sides' border to every cell that touches the edge of the Matrix when exported to Excel?

• Cannot use WCF service from windows mobile 5: no endpoint found.

  Hi All, I'm trying to figure out how to call a WCF service from a windows smart phone. I have a very simple smartphone console app, which does nothing but launch and make 1 call to the service. The service simply returns a string. I am able to instantiate the proxy class but when i call the method it throws an exception: There was no endpoint listening at http://mypcname/Service1.svc/basic that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. The inner exception: Could not establish connection to network. I've tried to follow this tutorial on setting up services with windows mobile. I've used the NetCFSvcUtil to create the proxy classes. I have the service running on IIS on my machine and had the Util consume the wsdl from that location. I've created a basic http binding as suggested in the article and i think i've pointed the proxy at the correct uri. Here some sections of relevant code in case it's helpful to see. If anyone has any suggestions, i'd really appreciate it. I'm not sure what else i can poke at to get this thing to work. Thanks! • Custom MediaStreamSource and MediaElement.Naturalduration property

  i have written a custom mediastreamsource, that can play media from growing source files (mpeg transport streams). Once it reaches the end of its mediastream, it reads the new duration from the mediafile and continues to deliver samples. The MediaElement plays continously. Unfortunately i haven´t found a way to update the MediaElement.NaturalDuration property. Hence i cannot seek into the “reloaded” area, because ME doesn´t know about it and sets my position change to its NaturalDuration value. I tried to call ReportOpenMediaCompleted after getting the new stream length. Then Naturalduration get´s updated, but i cannot play anymore. Is there any other way to deal with it ?

• Sensor Manager getOrientation, doesnt display text and only works in debug mode?

  Hi Guys, My code appears to crash. I'm trying to setup a SensorManager for getting the Orientation of the device. I also have a listener that should update when conditions change. I've got some other classes outputting the Orientation to a screen which I know works. The problem is somewhere in these methods. Am I doing it wrong or Is there a better way of doing this?

• jQuery UI Sortable - serialize multiple columns

  Dear stackoverflow experts, I have a little script which allows me to use jQuery to sort div tags nicely between 3 columns. The jQuery can be seen below: $(".column").sortable( { connectWith: '.column' }, { update: function(event, ui) { alert($(this).sortable('serialize')) } }); If I move an item from column 1 to column 2, it will display 2 alerts, showing the serialized data for the 2 affected columns. The problem is, I need to know the column ids too, so I can eventually save the data into a database. Right now, if it is possible to just display the column id in an alert but, that will be enough for me to continue. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  Hi, I can't figure out how to define the default constructor (when it exists overloads) for a type in StructureMap (version 2.5) by code. I want to get an instance of a service and the container has to inject a Linq2Sql data context instance into it. I wrote this in my 'bootstrapper' method : ForRequestedType<MyDataContext>().TheDefault.Is.OfConcreteType<MyDataContext>(); When I run my app, I got this error : StructureMap Exception Code: 202 No Default Instance defined for PluginFamily MyNamespace.Data.SqlRepository.MyDataContext, MyNamespace.Data, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null If I comment out all Linq2Sql generated contructors that I don't need, it works fine. Update : Oh, and I forgot to say that I would not use the [StructureMap.DefaultConstructor] attribute.

• How to post Source Code inside a Wordpress blog post

  I just started a coding related wordpress bog to basicly discuss topics and store code snippets in. I installed a code syntax highlighter plugin which is very nice but I am having a problem. I just tried posting my first code related blog post and wordpress seems to only post some of my code and then it makes some of it not show, like it filters some of it out even though I am wrapping it in tags like this.. <pre class="brush:php"> <?PHP my code ?> </pre> Some of my code works and some gets filtered out somehow. I know this is possible as many wordpress coding sites show source code. Do I need to modify something to make it work in wordpress? UPDATE I have confirmed that it does save ALL my code into the database it just filters it out when it try to print to screen, so when I go in to edit the post and textbox populates with ALL the source code intact

On FF and Safari I can see the "browse" button. Any ideas? It turns out my flash version was different from the current version. Now the plug-in is working just fine.

This tab shows you the local file system associated with the instance and any shared storage libraries mounted by Ops Center. More detailed information about file system storage is available under the Analytics tab under the sub-tab named Charts. Here, you can select and display the individual mount points of an OS, and export the utilization data if desired: In this example, the OS instance has a basic root file partition and several NFS directories. Each file system mount point can be independently chosen for display in the Ops Center chart. File Systems and Incident  Reporting Every asset managed by Ops Center has a "monitoring policy", which determines what represents a reportable issue with the asset. The policy is made up of a bunch of monitoring rules, where each rule describes An attribute to monitor The conditions which represent an issue The level or levels of severity for the issue When the conditions are met, Ops Center sends a notification and creates an incident. By default, OS instances have three monitoring rules associated with file systems: File System Reachability: Triggers an incident if a file system is not reachable NAS Library Status: Triggers an incident for a value of "WARNING" or "DEGRADED" for a NAS-based file system File System Used Space Percentage: Triggers an incident when file system utilization grows beyond defined thresholds You can view these rules in the Monitoring tab for an OS: Of course, the default monitoring rules is that they apply to every file system associated with an OS instance. As a result, any issue with NAS accessibility or disk utilization will trigger an incident. This can cause incidents for file systems to be reported multiple times if the same shared storage is used by many assets, as shown in this screen shot: Depending on the level of control you'd like, there are a number of ways to fine tune incident reporting. Note that any changes to an asset's monitoring policy will detach it from the default, creating a new monitoring policy for the asset. If you'd like, you can extract a monitoring policy from an asset, which allows you to save it and apply the customized monitoring profile to other OS assets. Solution #1: Modify the Reporting Thresholds In some cases, you may want to modify the basic conditions for incident reporting in your file system. The changes you make to a default monitoring rule will apply to all of the file systems associated with your operating system. Selecting the File Systems Used Space Percentage entry and clicking the "Edit Alert Monitoring Rule Parameters" button opens a pop-up dialog which allows you to modify the rule. The first screen lets you decide when you will check for file system usage, and how long you will wait before opening an incident in Ops Center. By default, Ops Center monitors continuously and reports disk utilization issues which exist for more than 15 minutes. The second screen lets you define actual threshold values. By default, Ops Center opens a Warning level incident is utilization rises above 80%, and a Critical level incident for utilization above 95% Solution #2: Disable Incident Reporting for File System If you'd rather not report file system incidents, you can disable the monitoring rules altogether. In this case, you can select the monitoring rules and click the "Disable Alert Monitoring Rule(s)" button to open the pop-up confirmation dialog. Like the first solution, this option affects all file system monitoring. It allows you to completely disable incident reporting for NAS library status or file system space consumption. Solution #3: Create New Monitoring Rules for Specific File Systems If you'd like to have the greatest flexibility when monitoring file systems, you can create entirely new rules. Clicking the "Add Alert Monitoring Rule" (the icon with the green plus sign) opens a wizard which allows you to define a new rule.  This rule will be based on a threshold, and will be used to monitor operating system assets. We'd like to add a rule to track disk utilization for a specific file system - the /nfs-guest directory. To do this, we specify the following attribute FileSystemUsages.name=/nfs-guest.usedSpacePercentage The value of name in the attribute allows us to define a specific NFS shared directory or file system... in the case of this OS, we could have chosen any of the values shown in the File Systems Utilization chart at the beginning of this article. usedSpacePercentage lets us define a threshold based on the percentage of total disk space used. There are a number of other values that we could use for threshold-based monitoring of FileSystemUsages, including freeSpace freeSpacePercentage totalSpace usedSpace usedSpacePercentage The final sections of the screen allow us to determine when to monitor for disk usage, and how long to wait after utilization reaches a threshold before creating an incident. The next screen lets us define the threshold values and severity levels for the monitoring rule: If historical data is available, Ops Center will display it in the screen. Clicking the Apply button will create the new monitoring rule and active it in your monitoring policy. If you combine this with one of the previous solutions, you can precisely define which file systems will generate incidents and notifications. For example, this monitoring policy has the default "File System Used Space Percentage" rule disabled, but the new rule reports ONLY on utilization for the /nfs-guest directory. • SimpleModal breaks ASP.Net Postbacks

  I'm using jQuery and SimpleModal in an ASP.Net project to make some nice dialogs for a web app. Unfortunately, any buttons in a modal dialog can no longer execute their postbacks, which is not really acceptable. There is one source I've found with a workaround, but for the life of me I can't get it to work, mostly because I am not fully understanding all of the necessary steps. I also have a workaround, which is to replace the postbacks, but it's ugly and probably not the most reliable. I would really like to make the postbacks work again. Any ideas? UPDATE: I should clarify, the postbacks are not working because the Javascript used to execute the post backs has broken in some way, so nothing happens at all when the button is clicked.

• DateTimePicker not updating dataset

  I'm binding a DateTimePicker control to my dataset (which is linked to a database). However, unless the user changes the date on that control, the dataset seems to contain null for that entry (even though the Value entry of the control isn't null). I've done a bit of googling, and there's a lot of talk about people having troubles with the DateTimePicker not supporting null values. However, I DON'T want it to support a NULL value. The column in my database table is set to "NOT NULL". It's as if the dataset isn't updating itself from the DateTimePicker control unless the user changes the date. I've tried explicitly setting the date for the control in code (using DateTimePicker.Value = DateTime.Now). This still doesn't update the dataset side. Thankyou for any help, Dan.

• Validation in asp.net MVC - validation only to happen when "asked"

  I've got a slightly different validation requirement than the usual "when save, validate!". The system can allow someone to update a bunch of times without being "bothered" with a validation listing UNTIL they say it's complete. I thought I might be able to pull a fast one and put the [HandleError] on the method of which this would fire, but that validates every save. Is there an attribte I can put into my custom validator that can handle this or am I going to have to write up my own HandleError attribute?

  In Delphi, consider var i: integer; begin for i := 0 to N do begin { Code } end; One might think that i = N after the for loop, but does the Delphi compiler guarantee this? Can one make the assumption that the loop variable is equal to its last value inside the loop, after a Delphi if loop? Update After trying a few simple loops, I suspect that i is actually equal to one plus the last value of i inside the loop after the loop... But can you rely on this?

  I have a Silverlight 3.0 application that is using a WCF service to communicate with the database, and when I have large amounts of data being returned from the service methods I get Service Not Found errors. I am fairly confident that the solution to it is to simply update the maxItemsInObjectGraph property, but I am creating the service client progrogrammatically and cannot find where to set this property. And I couldn't find ScriptManager.IsStartupScriptRegistered method. As a result of this additional script is emitted on all partial/async postbacks. Please note that I'm using script manager of AjaxControlToolkit version 4.1 i.e. ToolkitScriptManager in my masterpage. But I don't thing it has something to do with this. I created an update version of the app. I uploaded a binary and rejected. b) On the provisioning portal i created an app-id with unique id ( not wildchard * ) like: com.mycompanyname.myappintheoryblablabla c) I created a new provisioning profile based on the above app-id d) i installed via xcode the prov profile on the development device and set in the app this profile in the field "code signing identity" e) On itunes connect i created 2 item for the in app purchase and set ad "clear for sale" f) in the application code i implemened the basic calls taken from the Apple sample what i am getting is ( as stated in the subject ) CANNOT CONNECT TO ITUNES STORE. Any clue? Can anyone help me? Regards

  I have an (non-virtualized) ItemsControl that binds its ItemsSource to a ObeservableCollection of ViewModel instances. Now once the large amount Model instances is loaded all the ViewModel complemnents needs to be added to that ObservableCollection. How can I add a large amount of ViewModels without making the UI Thread hang? I suppose the UI Thread hangs because each time a new item is added the ItemsControl needs to update itself and does layout etc. over and over again. Should I suspend the binding add all items and then resume? If so, how? Should I override the ObservableCollection to implement an AddRange so only 1 CollectionChanged Event is fired for adding multiple items? Or alternatively just replace the whole collection? Or is it better to add each items separately and call Dispatcher.Invoke for each item separately? So I would unblock frequently. How do you handle large dynamic lists that can not be virtualized?
