• Is nothing truly ever deleted in git?

  I'm currently learning git, usually I'm a bit skeptic of VCS since I have a hard time getting used to them. I deleted a branch called "experimental" with some tmp files, I saw the files removed in my working directory so I scratched my head and wondered if this is normal, can I bring it back in case I need it again, etc. I found the SHA making the commit of the tmp files and recreated the branch with the provided sha and saw it again with all the files and their current content. Everything I do in the working directory can be reverted once I commit it? Might seem like a silly question to many people, but it kinda intrigues me so I want to know the limits

• Combine SQL statement

  I have 3 tables (follows, postings, users) follows has 2 fields - profile_id , following_id postings has 3 fields - post_id, profile_id, content users has 3 fields - profile_id, first_name, last_name I have a follows.profile_id value of 1 that I want to match against. When I run the SQL statement below I get the 1st step in obtaining the correct data. However, I now want to match the postings.profile_id of this resulting set against the users table so each of the names (first and last name) are displayed as well for all the listed postings. • Connection Timeout Extension/Detection

  Well, let me start off by explaining what I'm trying to do. I have an application that stalls a HTTP connection until new data is available (sometimes a few seconds, sometimes 30 minutes or so). Right now, the system works fine if the data is sent within a few minutes. The problem I'm facing, is that it doesn't seem that XHR recognizes a dropped connection... So instead of killing the current connection and reconnecting when it detects a dropped connection, it just sits there. I'd really not like to have it force-reconnect every minute or two (That's one reason this app was written, to stop the need for polling). So, my questions are as follows: Is there a way to detect a dropped (not closed) TCP connection with XHR? Is there a way that I can tell XHR not to timeout (I saw IE8 has the .timeout property) Would it be better to send a header (or some other content) every now and then (say once per minute) down the pipe to keep the connection open? • Issues with Firefox 3.6 & SWFObject 2.2

  I've searched the net for a solution but still haven't found one yet. I'm on Mac OSX and I use FlashBuilder. I try to publish a movie with the values of 100% for the width & the height. These are the values I use both in SWFObject and the CSS. Flash doesn't display in Firefox but displays on Opera, Chrome & Safari. SWFObject test suite displays fine though! I've tried to replicate the test suite settings but it doesn't work :( The only way I can get the movie to display in Firefox is by setting the height value to a fixed pixel size in the flash content div, which defeats the purpose of using percentage values in the first place :) I've tried most recommendations such as putting the script in the head tag as well as a few others but nothing works except setting a fixed height size in the CSS. Help would be most appreciated! ;)

• What languages, frameworks, and technologies have you used to implement document searching?

  I am at a new company and one of our goals is to implement a document search portal for our team and our clients. I am a bit worried that if we use an external service provider like Salesforce or some other ECM in the cloud there will be a lot of integration work in the future. From a client perspective, these documents will also exist in the same bucket as our structured content (stored in the DB, not a MS Word doc). If you have implemented document searching, what languages, frameworks, and technologies have you used? Do you have any failure stories? I don't have a problem using something out of the box, but I think it is important that we have control over the documents and the API to access them. I would like to use Rails if we go fully custom.

• How to make a secure login using UDID or device token?

  So I'm making an app where I want the users to be able add, edit and rate content, but I do not want to force them to register. Instead I was planning on just using their device id or device token to identify them. I'm planning on making both an iPhone and Android version, so I'm looking for a general solution, but the iPhone version has higher priority, so an iPhone specific solution would also be welcome. The problem is that I don't want just anyone to be able to use my web service by sending a phony device id or someone else's device id. How would the client prove to the server that it is providing the correct device id?

• How to use a servlet to repsond to a request for an object

  I'm sure this is easy, but I don't work with website development very often and I'm lost on this one. I have a web application that needs to support multiple clients with different settings, icons and other content. The contents of these files are in separate directories for each client. What I would like to do is respond to a request sent to a jsp/java servlet. The servlet will look up the proper folder location in a database (I have the database stuff working) and send the actual object to the requesting page whether it is xml, graphic or video. How do I do that? What methods should I be using. Help I'm lost! :(

• Paperclip - Validate File Type but not Presence

  I am using paperclip to handle my file uploads, and in one situation I don't want the file to be mandatory. I do however want to make sure it is a specific file type when it is present. I have this: class TestModel < ActiveRecord::Base #stuff has_attached_file :sound #etc... validates_attachment_content_type :sound, :content_type => ['audio/mp3', 'application/x-mp3'] end And when I have no sound file present, it tells me it is not one of the valid content types. I've tried adding '' to the :content_type array, which also doesn't work! I also attempted creating a lambda procedure for the :if property, but I can't get it to run without some kind of error. Anything missing here?

This all works fine but I would like to extend the script to update a reporting db (db1) from the backup of the prod db (db2). I have written the following test script but it does not work. I have a feeling the problem is the reading of the sql file to the CommandText but I am not sure how to debug.   Hello, I have a simple WM7 Page with textbox. Futher, I assigned EventToCommand (RelayCommand) to this textbox, reacting to TextChanged event. For testing pourposes I made additional method TextBox_TextChanged in page's code behing. Both command and TextBox_TextChanged print a message box with the textbox content. Initial value of textbox is ABC. Then I press D and: 1) TextBox_TextChanged prints ABCD. 2) Command prints ABC. D is missing. Why commands is so fast???

• PHP: Do we have any command via which we can delete the contents of an file without opening it.

  Is there any way to remove the contents of an file in php, do we have any php command that does that, I know unlink but I do not want to delete the file instead I just want to remove the contents of that file. I have an file which I pass while called a getCurrentDBSnap function, it takes in the file from /home/test/incoming folder and populates currentDB table state into the file using fputcsv and puts back file to /home/test/outgoing. Currently file stays in incoming folder and when I can call the function getCurrentDBSnap it would take the file and override with latest state of DB into it. Q: My question is, is it possible instead of overwriting the file, we can remove the content of file after ever getCurrentDBSnap such that file in incoming folder would be always empty ? Hope it makes sense :)

  Is there a built in procedure to digitally sign an HTTPS request with client's SSL private key in .net? Also, is there a built in procedure to verify the digital signature against an SSL certificate? Or do I have to roll my own? Or is there a third party library? I need the request to be digitally signed because the client manipulates money, so I want to be sure that the request really comes from the client and that nobody tampers with the content of the request. I'm also considering using SSL client certificate, but it can only provide confidentiality and authentication, but not data integrity.

• Disable link with the prototype observe method...

  I want to create a link like this: <a href="http://example.com">text</a> and replace the behavior so that the link downloads the content with Ajax instead when clicking. It is important for me not to replace the href attribute (so copying the link still works). One solution would be to do: $('link').onclick = function() { return false; }; but I would like to use the .observe method. But this doesn't work: $('link').observe('click', function() { return false; }); (which is quite logical). Any ideas on how I could achieve this? Thanks.

• How necessary is using PHP filters?

  I'm a relatively newbie to PHP and just making my way through the W3Schools tut. The tut makes a big point of saying you must always filter external data (i.e. cookies, form data etc). I'm writing a fairly simple system that talks with a third party Joomla extension. It's at a prototype stage where I'm just wanting to demonstrate the functionality in a minimum viable product. Basically, I'd like to know... what's the worst that could happen in I don't filter content. Are we talking 'I might get a bunch of spam', or 'a good hacker could get root server access'? Have hunted around online, but would love any of your experience / insight on the matter!

• I'm looking for a reliable way to verify T-SQL stored procedures. Anybody got one?

  Hi all-- We're upgrading from SQL Server 2005 to 2008. Almost every database in the 2005 instance is set to 2000 compatibility mode, but we're jumping to 2008. Our testing is complete, but what we've learned is that we need to get faster at it. I've discovered some stored procedures that either SELECT data from missing tables or try to ORDER BY columns that don't exist. Wrapping the SQL to create the procedures in SET PARSEONLY ON and trapping errors in a try/catch only catches the invalid columns in the ORDER BYs. It does not find the error with the procedure selecting data from the missing table. SSMS 2008's intellisense, however, DOES find the issue, but I can still go ahead and successfully run the ALTER script for the procedure without it complaining. So, why can I even get away with creating a procedure that fails when it runs? Are there any tools out there that can do better than what I've tried? The first tool I found wasn't very useful: DbValidator from CodeProject, but it finds fewer problems than this script I found on SqlServerCentral, which found the invalid column references. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Check Syntax of Database Objects -- Copyrighted work. • Trying to make my leaflet map work on internet explorer

  I have been tearing my hair out of late trying to get my web map working on internet explorer. It's working flawlessly on every other major browser but none of the content will load in IE. Anyone out there who's good at browser testing that could help out? I know the leaflet javascript api, which I'm using for this project, supports IE in theory. In practice this isn't working out too well...   Finally I accomplished to cache dynamic images, css, and javascript files using HTTP headers BUT I have a problem now: I have specific dynamic images that are equal but has different URL's. For example: http://example.com/image/src/the-same-image.jpg http://example.com/image/custom/src/the-same-image2.jpg 1 and 2 has the same file content but different URL. This is a problem now because the navigator assumes that the file are different and need to be cached (due to the URL), when the real cached file is only one. I have the possibility to know if the file at the URL's are the same. How I can use the headers to indicate in the Response that possibility, and the navigator will cache only one file?

My current solution is to use HTMLParser from libxml2 and xpath to find the nodes and walk through all the nodes to reconstruct this piece of HTML. This is a long an complicated code. An XML file may contain content of several schemas, like this: <outer xmlns="my.outer.namespace" xmlns:x="my.third.namespace"> <foo>hello</foo> <inner xmlns="my.inner.namespace"> <bar x:id="bar">world</bar> </inner> </outer> Given a namespace the corresponding xsd file can be provided, but the used namespaces are unknown before parsing. If a schema defines default values for attributes, I also want to know that somehow. I was able to validate a file if the schemas are known, I was able to parse a file without validation and I implemented a LSResourceResolver. However, I can't get all of it working together. How do I have to set up my (SAX) parser?

• java best way to transfer images

  I have a application that reads a PDF, transform the content to collection of TIF files, and send them to Glass Fish Server for saving. Usually there are 1-5 pages and it works nice, but when I got a input file with 100+ pages... it throws error on the transfer. Java heap space at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(Arrays.java:2786) at java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.write(ByteArrayOutputStream.java:94) Putting more resources is not a good option in my case, so I m looking for a way to optimize it somehow. I store the data in: HashMap<TifProfile, List<byte[]> Is there a better way to store or send them ? EDIT I did some tests and the final collections for PDF with 80 pages has size over 280mb (240 tiffs with different settings inside)

• NoClassDefFoundError with new eclipse bundle

  I am informed by a customer that they are receiving an error. On the report they filed it is continuosly coming up with NoClassDefFoundError. It appears none of my other customers are having this issue. I'm not having this issue running the app on my Motorola Droid Maxx. The customer is running the app on a rooted Droid Bionic. Everything was working fine on my version at 2.3 but when I updated it to 2.4, this issue arose. I also replaced my computer with a new and now I am running windows 8 and installed the adt bundle. The only change I made to the file in question in changing a -90 to -85. Below is the code...I have also included below the code the error report.
