  • Click behaviour - Difference in IE and FF ?!

    Hey folks, i just came to the conclusion that a project i am currently working on might have a "logical" error in functionality. Currently I'am using server technology with PHP/MySQL and JQuery. Within the page there's a normal link reference with tag <a href="contentpage?page=xxx">next step</a> The pain point now seems to be the given jquery click event on the same element. The intension was to save the (current) content of the page (- form elements) via another php script using the php session command. For any reason, IE can handle the click event of Jquery right before executing the standard html command, that reloads the current page again with the new page parameter. By using FF the behaviour is different. I assume, that FF first execute the html command and afterwards execute the javascript code which handles the click event. Therefore the resultset here is wrong respectivly empty. My question now is whether you made the same experience and how you handled / wordarrounded this problem. I'd be thankful fur any of your tips or further feedback. Maybe you also have a solution on how to rethink about the current architecture. Regards, Oliver

I made an outlet: IBOutlet UIWebView *browser; Defined it as a property: @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWebView *browser; Synthethized it: @synthesize browser; Finally, I connected it in Interface Builder, really it is.   • Understanding REST: is GET fundamentally incompatible with any "number of views" counter?

    I'm trying to understand REST. Under REST a GET must not trigger something transactional on the server (this is a definition everybody agrees upon, it is fundamental to REST). So imagine you've got a website like stackoverflow.com (I say like so if I got the underlying details of SO wrong it doesn't change anything to my question), where everytime someone reads a question, using a GET, there's also some display showing "This question has been read 256 times". Now someone else reads that question. The counter now is at 257. The GET is transactional because the number of views got incremented and is now incremented again. The "number of views" is incremented in the DB, there's no arguing about that (for example on SO the number of time any question has been viewed is always displayed). So, is a REST GET fundamentally incompatible with any kind of "number of views" like functionality in a website? So should it want to be "RESTFUL", should the SO main page either stop display plain HTML links that are accessed using GETs or stop displaying the "this question has been viewed x times"? Because incrementing a counter in a DB is transactional and hence "unrestful"? EDIT just so that people Googling this can get some pointers: From http://www.xfront.com/REST-Web-Services.html : 4. All resources accessible via HTTP GET should be side-effect free. That is, the request should just return a representation of the resource. Invoking the resource should not result in modifying the resource. Now to me if the representation contains the "number of views", it is part of the resource [and in SO the "number of views" a question has is a very important information] and accessing it definitely modifies the resource. This is in sharp contrast with, say, a true RESTFUL HTTP GET like the one you can make on an Amazon S3 resource, where your GET is guaranteed not to modify the resource you get back. But then I'm still very confused.

  • VS ASP.NET 500 Server Error

    Hey guys, I'm having a super weird problem with my VS 2008 solution. We had this hand-coded ASP.NET compiled web app on our old IIS6/Win2003 server, working great, moved it to our new IIS7/Win2008 server, still working great, but when I try to compile the application and publish it again to our new Win2008 server, I get server 500 errors. It's ASP.NET 2.0 with AJAX extensions and AJAX control toolkit. I'm not too great with server issues, or even sure if it is a server issue but here are some more symptoms... ? I know the website works (it only differs by some minor code fixes) and can use it's code on a development machine, there are no errors, and it publishes fine. Publishing (using the DLL files), and even not publishing and trying to use the code-behind files on our new server, both no success. The old website does work on the new server just fine. If I put a simple hello world html page in the website's virtual directory, with the old code, it works fine, but with the new code, that html page gets the 500 error. And in fact, oddly, I can add all the files to the website, only when I add the web.config, do I get the 500 error. The web.config has not changed. Tried stopping and restarting IIS What's the problem, here? Any ideas, what else can I do to troubleshoot the problem?

    I want to replace word groups by links. I use a multi-dimensional array to define these (in the real world there will be thousands of them).     Driving me a bit nuts this one, have tried alsorts of combination's... At the top of my file I have PHP Code: if (!ISSET ($_POST['submit'])) which tests if the submit has been hit, if not displays the form.... What I'd like to be able to to is generate a link that would be processed directly by the php code that the form would normally be submitted to... (does that make sense ?) so a generated link in the code looks like .. PHP Code: echo '<a href="index.php?submit&s_type=' . $s_type . '&d_height=' . $d_height . '&j_ref=' . $j_ref . '&j_name=' . j_name . '">' . $j_ref . '</a>'; The link generated looks like .. HTML Code: index.php?s_type=partk&d_height=3312&j_ref=AS0001&j_name=j_name I have tried setting "submit" with links like HTML Code: index.php?submit=submit&s_type=partk&d_height=3312&j_ref=AS0001&j_name=j_name index.php?submit&s_type=partk&d_height=3312&j_ref=AS0001&j_name=j_name How do I create a link that sets "submit so it gets processed rather than going through the form ???

Iam happy! Why not the same happens when i try to do from the browser (i tested in IE6 & Chrome) using javascript:document.getElementById("myInput").type="text" different browsers behave in different way... when i tried javascript:document.getElementById("myInput").value="myNewValue", IE6 changes the value, but chrome doesn't.. Why is this "javascript:" behaving like this ?

  • Web Audio API and mobile browsers

    I've run into a problem while implementing sound and music into an HTML game that I'm building. I'm using the Web Audio API, loading all the sound files with XMLHttpRequests and decoding them into an AudioBufferSourceNode with AudioContext.prototype.decodeAudioData(). It looks something like this: var request = new XMLHttpRequest(); request.open("GET", "soundfile.ogg", true); request.responseType = "arraybuffer"; request.onload = function() { context.decodeAudioData(request.response) } request.send(); Everything plays fine, but on mobile the decodeAudioData takes an absurdly long time for the background music. I then tried using AudioContext.prototype.createMediaElementSource() to load the music from an HTML Audio object, since they support streaming and don't have to load the whole file into memory at once. It looked something like this: var audio = new Audio('soundfile.ogg'); var source = context.createMediaElementSource(audio); var mainVolume = context.createGain(); source.connect(mainVolume); mainVolume.connect(context.destination); This loads much faster, but the audio volume isn't affected by the gain node. Works fine on desktop, so I'm assuming this is a bug/limitation of mobile Chrome (testing on Android). Is there actually no good, well-performing way to handle sound on mobile browsers or am just I doing something stupid?

    To build a menu block which should be switchable with hide/unhide of the menu items, I'm using .append html. But the point is:: I use JS to read the required menu items (eg. 'aMenu1' together with title and/or link info) from a file to build all that, eg. for 'aMenu1' a complex is composed and $("#someElement").append(someString) is used to add that the 'someElement'. At the moment I build those html elements line by line. Also OK .. as far as the resulting string has the opening and closing tag, eg. "<li>aMenu2</li>". As can be seen from above posted code there is a line "<div id="' + menuSlider + '" style="display:none">". Appending that -- AFAIS -- the .append is automatically (????) adding "</div>" which closes the statement. That breaks my idea of the whole concept! The menu part isn't included in the 'menuSlider '. QQ: How to change it -- NOT to have that "</div" added to it?? Günter

  • Jquery Dialog - Is there a way to open it without registering it using .dialog?

    This is my problem. I have a page with multiple tabs. I load those tabs dynamically and one of those tabs is a message container (mail). Every time I click a folder link (Inbox, Sent Mail etc) I reload just that tab alone with appropriate content. I use Jquery dialog to pick contacts and I have to load contacts everytime. Since I reload the whole tab content every time JQuery Dialog registers (or creates) the whole div content. My problem now is it is not showing the dialog. Is there a way by which I can open this dialog without registering it. Any help is much appreciated.

  • What is the simplest way to implement multithreading in c# to existing code

    I have already implemented a functionnal application that parses 26 pages of html all at once to produce an xml file with data contained on the web pages. I would need to implement a thread so that this method can work in the background without causing my app to seems unresponsive. Secondly, I have another function that is decoupled from the first one which compares two xml files to produce a third one and then transform this third xml file to produce an html page using XSLT. This would have to be on a thread, where I can click Cancel to stop the thread whithout crashing the app. What is the easiest best way to do this using WPF forms in VS 2010 ? I have chosen to use the BackgroundWorker.     Sorry about the title - not sure what to call this one. A client of mine would like to redirect users to different front-ends of his eCommerce site based on a hit-counter (possibly a timer?). important: -The content is moderately different in the two sites, enough to consider them two different websites. Knowing this client he will likely add more drastic content changes and other front-ends. So for this question consider the content to be -This site has a rather large back-end. With affiliate networking, multiple payment gateways, order-tracking, and several other features in the works. It is essential that these two front-ends have identical back-end functionality I know that if it was just a simple CSS swap this would be as simple as an if statement that ran off some kind of counter stored in a DB... but the different HTML markup is throwing me for a loop. Q: How can I serve two different front-ends (HTML/CSS) based on a hit counter? Also, I don't have any clue what to tag this one as...

  • Span with white-space style in IE (7) applied _past_ end of span

    We've got an application where users can enter "notes" into a rich edit control (Telerik's RedEditor, but that doesn't matter here). We had a user enter notes from w/in Safari that had a <span></span> in the middle of the note, and that span had a style on it specifying white-space:pre The HTML of the note was in the form of: <div> This is a note <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre; "> </span> and here's more of the note. </div> Simple enough, the style should apply to the span, and the span had 4 spaces in it. There should have been 4 spaces in the resulting output. Here's the problem. IE seems to apply that white-space: pre; style not only to the span, but to the enclosing div! Therefore, this long line that should have wrapped since it's not in the span, now pushed the document out until the line fits on the page. What am I missing. I know IE has problems, but this doesn't seem right, even for IE. So, the question(s): 1) Am I correct that the white-space attribute should only have applied to the span? 2) Can this be resolved somehow? Remember, I'm not in control of the content being entered. And it's entered from a mac w/Safari and being viewed in IE.   • Batch insert mode with hibernate and oracle: seems to be dropping back to slow mode silently

    I'm trying to get a batch insert working with Hibernate into Oracle, according to what i've read here: http://docs.jboss.org/hibernate/core/3.3/reference/en/html/batch.html , but with my benchmarking it doesn't seem any faster than before. Can anyone suggest a way to prove whether hibernate is using batch mode or not? I hear that there are numerous reasons why it may silently drop into normal mode (eg associations and generated ids) so is there some way to find out why it has gone non-batch? My hibernate.cfg.xml contains this line which i believe is all i need to enable batch mode: <property name="jdbc.batch_size">50</property> My insert code looks like this: List<LogEntry> entries = ..a list of 100 LogEntry data classes... Session sess = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); for(LogEntry e : entries) { sess.save(e); } sess.flush(); sess.clear(); My 'logentry' class has no associations, the only interesting field is the id: @Entity @Table(name="log_entries") public class LogEntry { @Id @GeneratedValue public Long id; ..other fields - strings and ints... However, since it is oracle, i believe the @GeneratedValue will use the sequence generator. And i believe that only the 'identity' generator will stop bulk inserts. So if anyone can explain why it isn't running in batch mode, or how i can find out for sure if it is or isn't in batch mode, or find out why hibernate is silently dropping back to slow mode, i'd be most grateful. I have two tables - Chords - |id|chord|name|rating|artist_id| Artists - |id|artist| (the relations : chords : belongs_to :artist artists : has_many :chords ) And in the index page for "chords" i want to display chord,name,rating from Chords table AND artist from the Artists table this is the code for the chrod's index.html.erb : <table border="1"> <%@chords.each do |chord|%> <tr> <td><%=chord.artist.artist%></td> <td><%= link_to chord.name, chord %></td> <td><%=chord.rating%></td> <td><%= chord.created_at %></td> </tr> <%end%> </table> The error message is : undefined method `artist' for nil:NilClass Actually, at first it worked, but when i started to create the "new.html.erb" page and the create,new controllers, it stopped working - thats why this is so confusing for me! I will be glad to hear any critique and suggestions! Thank you

  • Problem with ScriptManager when trying to email rendered contents of ASP.NET page

    I recently added a Telerik control to an ascx that is included in an aspx page. This page has a "Send email" button, which when clicked will email the user the rendered output of the page. The Telerik control I added requires a ScriptManager, so I added that to the ascx. However, now the email button won't work. I get the following error: The control with ID 'myIdHere' requires a ScriptManager on the page. The ScriptManager must appear before any controls that need it. I know the script manager exists because the page works fine when I go that url, it is only failing when it tries to email the rendered output. Here's a code snippet, any ideas as to whether there is a problem with scriptmanager when doing this sort of thing?   • How does asp.net MVC remember my false values on postback?

    Hi, This is working, but how??? I have a controller action for a post: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post )] public ActionResult Edit(Person person) { bool isvalid = ModelState.IsValid; etc. The Person object has a property BirthDate, type DateTime. When i enter some invalid data in the form, say 'blabla' which is obvious not a valid Datetime, it fills all the (other) Person properties with the correct data and the BirthDate property with a new blank DateTime. The bool isvalid has the value 'false'. So far so good. Then i do this: return View(p); and in the view i have this: <%= Html.TextBox("BirthDate", String.Format("{0:g}", Model.BirthDate)) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("BirthDate", "*") %> Ant there it comes: i EXPECTED the model to contain the new, blank DateTime because i didn't put any new data in. Second, when the View displays something, it must be a DateTime, because Model.BirthDate can't hold anything but a DateTime. But to my surprise, it shows a textbox with the 'blabla' value! (and the red * behind it) Which ofcourse is nice because the user can seee what he typed wrong, but how can that (blabla)string be transferred to the View in a DateTime field?

When I use ajax_result_1 for :update, it worked okay. But, not for *ajax_result_2* and *ajax_result_3*. Is there a way to solve this? I want to replace row of the table.

  • Setting Session/Cookie via ajax request made on other website

    Hi, That's my problem: I have an website, example.com, in which index.html file a introduced a <script src="website.net/js.js"></script> You can see, that this is on other web server. In the js.js I have some data that I want to send to php. For that, I am using Ajax. So, I made a request to "website.net/data.php" using method get. In data.php file everything is ok,I received the value, but I want to set a cookie which value is what I received through ajax. Here is the problem. The setcookie function says that the cookie was set, but when I check in the browser, there's no cookie! It works fine if the index.html file where I use <script src="website.net/js.js"></script> is hosted on the same domain where I am making the request. If it is on another domain, it doesn't work anymore. I have read something about Ajax cross site, but I don't want to send something back to example.com. All I want is to send some data from example.com to website.net and then setting a cookie based on that value. Thank you very much, and sorry for my English! Later edit: I am not used with this website. From the example.net I take a single value. On website.net I receive that value, I check if it's not already a cookie set, if it's not, I set it. On the same page, website.net, I use this cookie too.

  • KO3: How to deal with stylesheets and scriptfiles

    I'm using Kohana 3 and it's template controller. My main site template controller currently looks something like this: <?php defined('SYSPATH') or die('No direct script access.'); abstract class Controller_SiteTemplate extends Controller_Template { public function before() { parent::before(); // Initialize default template variables $this->template->styles = Kohana::config('site.styles'); $this->template->scripts = Kohana::config('site.scripts'); $this->template->title = ''; $this->template->content = ''; } } And then in my template view I do: <?php # Styles foreach($styles as $file => $media) echo HTML::style($file, array('media' => $media)).PHP_EOL ?> <?php # Scripts foreach($scripts as $file) echo HTML::script($file).PHP_EOL ?> This works alright. The problem is that it requires the style- and script files to be added in the controller, which shouldn't really have to care about those. It also makes it a hassle if the views are done by someone else than me since they would have to fool around with the controller just to add a new stylesheet or a new script file. How can this be done in a better way? Just to clearify, what I am wondering is how to deal with page specific stylesheets and scripts. The default and site-wide ones I have no problem with fetching from a config file or just put directly in the template view. My issue is how to add custom ones for specific pages in a good way.
